While Beetlejuice 2 may have been Jenna Ortega's biggest 2024 release, the actress has several other upcoming movies and TV shows in the works. Ortega got her acting start in commercials before making the jump to TV in 2012 with small roles. In just two years, she started to acquire more prominent roles in shows like Rake and Jane the Virgin. By then, Ortega was also appearing in movies. Following her stint on the Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle, Ortega's movie career grew with roles in movies like The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Yes Day, and The Fallout.
While Ortega appeared in You season 2 and voiced a character in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, her career took off in 2022 with the releases of Scream and Wednesday. Some of Ortega's other best horror movies came in the few years that followed, with a sequel to the slasher franchise Scream VI and Ti West's X.

When Holidate and About Fate writer Tiffany Paulsen first started making the film that would become her feature directorial debut, Winter Spring Summer or Fall stars Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White hadn’t even appeared in the Netflix hit Wednesday.
Ortega, Paulsen says, was their “first choice … dream … unicorn” for Remi Aguilar, the ambitious genius with a bright future who falls for Barnes Hawthorne, Hynes White’s music-loving rebel, in the film that plays out with one day per season over the course of a year.
Luckily the actress “loved” the script, Paulsen recalls, adding that she and her lead actress first met as Ortega was getting ready to start filming Wednesday.
“Then we had the long process of working on the script, getting it to studios, trying to find financing — that road takes a while. And by the time we’d gotten around to actually being able to shoot this movie,...

With a premise about young love, two charismatic leads and a title like Winter Spring Summer or Fall, Tiffany Paulsen’s feature is likely to draw vague comparisons to Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise (and sequels). But while it’s highly unlikely to attain that canonical status, this film edges into distinctive enough territory thanks to Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White. Their genuine chemistry and grounded performances give the feathery story a needed touch of weight.
Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, Winter Spring Summer or Fall aims to gift Gen Z the kind of rooting-for-them romance on offer for every generation: the unlikely match-up at the center of A Walk to Remember; the music-driven pairing of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist; and, as mentioned, the more emotionally risky and formally adventurous Before movies.

Wednesday season 2's delay will be eased by Dead Boy Detectives, a supernatural show arriving April 2025 on Netflix. Wednesday's success gives Netflix hope that it can captivate fans with the supernatural elements of another show. Netflix hopes Dead Boy Detectives will match Wednesday's popularity, avoiding a premature cancellation fate as seen with past shows.
Wednesday season 2 won't be arriving anytime soon, but the delay will be easier to handle thanks to Netflix's new supernatural show. Based on the beloved Addams Family's teenage daughter and other elements from Charles Addams' iconic franchise, Wednesday broke streaming records while becoming one of Netflix's biggest hits in history. Much of the show's success revolved around the work of its lead star, Jenna Ortega, who effectively embraced Wednesday's dark persona and deadpan line delivery, much to the enjoyment of fans. Even with the instant popularity and the inevitable Wednesday season 2 renewal, a delay couldn't be prevented.

Scream queen and horror's current "It-girl," Jenna Ortega, has signed on to star and produce in a coming-of-age romantic drama that's being described as Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" meets "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." The film, "Winter Spring Summer Or Fall," is the feature directorial debut of Tiffany Paulsen, who folks may know for writing the films "Holidate" and "About Fate." The script comes from Dan Schoffer, who wrote the script that was used in the Starz filmmaking competition show, "The Chair," which became Shane Dawson's "Not Cool" and A.M. Lukas' "Hollidaysburg."
In an interesting bit of casting news, Ortega will be starring opposite her "Wednesday" co-star, Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe on the Netflix series. The duo will play a pair of teens who "meet and fall in love over four significant days of the year," according to a report from Deadline.

If you set out to combine the worst parts of Hallmark holiday movies with the worst parts of frenetic ‘90s rom-coms, you’d probably wind up with something a lot like “About Fate.” The women are nuts, the men are clueless and the production is so cheap you could pass the time spotting every mistake no one bothered to fix.
Maybe a movie that has so little ambition doesn’t deserve such a harsh summation. But we have, for the most part, moved beyond the most enervating chick-flick stereotypes. So it’s more than a little dispiriting to see Margot (Emma Roberts) lose her mind when her boyfriend Kip suggests they get dinner at Bennigan’s.
For reasons that make sense only to screenwriter Tiffany Paulsen — who also wrote the Roberts vehicles “Nancy Drew” and “Holidate” — Margot is fixated on the idea that Kip must be proposing. They’ve only been dating for three months,...

Ever since premiering on October 28, 2020, Netflix's Christmastime rom-com Holidate has remained among the Top 5 trending titles on the streaming platform (currently ranked #4). Taking cues from an aunt who brings a string of random guys to family holiday gatherings may not be wise. Yet, in the pleasantly diverting rom-com “Holidate” (streaming on Netflix), that’s exactly what Sloane (Emma Roberts) does, with a twist. After meeting prickly, she and handsome strange Jackson enter into a pact. They’d been standing in a returns line at a mall, one-upping each other about the miseries of being single during holidays. Just ahead of New Year’s Eve (surely among the more demanding of connection holidays), the two agree to be one another’s faux dates for the heavy-pressure night.
Briskly directed by John Whitesell, written by Tiffany Paulsen, “Holidate” won’t change your mind about the tread-worn challenges of romantic comedies, but its leads leverage their charms nicely. The film begins with Sloane arriving at her mother’s on Christmas. We get an eyeful of...

The characters trapped in John Whitesell’s “Holidate” may not know they’re in a romantic comedy, but they sure know the perimeters of one. Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) are barely into their first encounter before they start yammering about the usual cinematic expectations of the genre — including the exact ones that will unfold in the film to come — as well as the very same outdated “men are from Mars, women are from Venus” concepts that have bolstered such movies since film history invented them. But while plenty of rom-coms have tackled this tongue-in-cheek approach before, “Holidate” never attempts to subvert the very things it mocks, instead opting for

The first trailer for Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey starrer 'Holidate' is out now.
Netflix has dropped the trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy flick 'Holidate' on Wednesday, and it looks like it could be nearly as good as The Kissing Booth.
The newly released trailer teases one of the most systematic rom-com plots imaginable.
The film revolves around a hopelessly single Sloane (Roberts) who's "the only single one left" in her family as she turns to Jackson (Bracey) to help her avoid awkward questions from her friends and family. Luke’s character is a perpetually single guy who is tired of being pressured to 'settle down'.
The official synopsis for 'Holidate' hints the same and reads, “Sloane and Jackson hate the holidays. They constantly find themselves single, sitting at the kid's table, or stuck with awkward dates. But when these two strangers meet during one particularly bad Christmas,...

Kenny Ortega of the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise has just signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix. The pact with the producer, director, and choreographer continues Netflix’s aggressive push to lock down major talent as media giants such as the Walt Disney Company and Comcast prepare their own streaming services. In recent months, Netflix has signed deals with the likes of Ryan Murphy (“Glee”), Shonda Rhimes (“Scandal”), and Pixar vet Darla K. Anderson.
“As a fan of Netflix and their dynamic range of high quality content, I am thrilled to begin a creative relationship with the company,” Ortega said in a statement. “I’m super excited about the projects we already have in development and the shared enthusiasm I feel from the company. l look forward to this new Netflix collaboration with the highest hopes.”

High School Musical franchise filmmaker Kenny Ortega has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix with his first two projects being a feature musical adaptation of Elise Primavera’s book series Auntie Claus, and the original series Julie and the Phantoms.
Ortega will direct and produce Auntie Claus (working title) which follows a young girl who is determined to get to the bottom of why her eccentric, Christmas-loving Aunt disappears every Christmas. Tiffany Paulsen will adapt.
Julie and the Phantoms, which Ortega will executive produce, is a musical comedy series based on an International Emmy Award-nominated Brazilian television series. Julie is a teenage girl who finds her passion for music and life with the help of a high-concept band of three teen boys (The Phantoms) who have been dead for 25 years. Julie, in turn, helps them become the band they were never able to be. Dan Cross and David Hoge will serve as showrunners and EPs on the series, with George Salinas and Jaime Aymerich of Crossover Entertainment, as well as Hugo Janeba and Joao Tikhmiroff of Mixer Entertainment. Jason La Padura and Natalie Hart (High School Musical and Descendants trilogies) are now casting the titular roles. Truman Alfaro will serve as Ortega’s development executive.
“Throughout the course of his career, Kenny Ortega has inspired generations of artists and audiences alike. That he has chosen to make Netflix his creative home to work on both feature films and series is thrilling. We can’t wait to see what he brings to Netflix to delight musical-loving families and audiences around the globe,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

Netflix has been rolling out movie after movie in all the different categories lately, and has just announced that Emma Roberts has signed on to star in their latest rom-com, Holidate. It looks like Roberts is taking after her famous aunt Julia Roberts, who was pretty much the queen of rom-coms in decades past. Sidebar - I watched a snippet of an interview the other day where Julia Roberts said she was too old to be in rom-coms anymore. She’s 51, looks at least ten years younger, but I don’t even think that matters! She’s beautiful and funny, and a good actress. And people fall in love at every age. So I don’t think she should pigeon hole herself. But, I digress.
Holidate will be about “Sloane (Roberts) and Jackson, two perpetual singles who hate the holidays since their continual lack of a significant other subjects them...

Netflix has won an auction for the Tiffany Paulsen script Holidate, a package that has Emma Roberts starring and Emmy winner John Whitesell directing.
The romantic comedy revolves around two strangers who are fed up with the pressures of holiday dating and make a deal to be each other’s designated “holidate” over the course of an entire year.
The film is produced by Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola, who’ve made I Feel Pretty and The Duff. This is the company’s fifth project with Netflix after The Babysitter, When We First Met, the currently in-production Tall Girl, and the upcoming family action film Rim of the World.
Roberts’ credits include We’re the Millers and Scream Queens, and she’s part of the cast of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Whitesell directed Big Momma’s House 2 and Malibu’s Most Wanted.

Emma Roberts is set to star in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Holidate,” produced by McG’s Wonderland Productions.
“Malibu’s Most Wanted” helmer John Whitesell is directing, with Tiffany Paulsen penning the script.
The story follows Sloane (Roberts) and Jackson, two perpetual singles who hate the holidays since their continual lack of a significant other subjects them to the judgment of their family members or stuck with clingy, awkward dates. After they meet, however, they pledge to be each other’s plus-ones for each holiday celebration over the course of one year.
McG will produce along with Mary Viola through their Wonderland shingle. Producers are looking to cast the role of Jackson, with hopes to start production later this year.
The project is the fifth collaboration between Netflix and Wonderland, who is currently in production on the comedy “Tall Girl” for the streaming giant. The production company also handled Netflix films “The Babysitter,...
