Created some controversy when he appeared in 1957 as a guest on The Mike Wallace Interview (1957) and said that _John F. Kennedy_ "is the only man in history that I know who won a Pulitzer Prize for a book that was ghostwritten for him", referring to "Profiles in Courage". The Kennedy family was angered and threatened to sue, but Mike Wallace and Pearson stood by the statement. Nevertheless, ABC issued a retraction and an apology. It was later revealed that Kennedy speech writer Theodore Sorensen did, in fact, ghostwrite most of the book.
