Queen Charlotte Could’ve Been Iconic if It Didn’t Butcher Bridgerton Lore for Royal Melodrama
Image
It’s nearly blasphemous to say it out loud, but not everyone feels that Queen Charlotte is the shining crown jewel of the Bridgerton universe. For many, the series was everything they hoped for, emotionally gripping, beautiful performances, and visually breathtaking. The praise has been thunderous and, to some extent, deserved.

Yet, beneath all that glitz lies a series that, while impressive, stumbles in ways that make it hard to wholeheartedly crown it as the best installment. The truth is, Queen Charlotte could have been iconic. Instead, it sometimes feels like a royal melodrama that lost sight of what made Bridgerton so compelling in the first place: its lore, its pacing, and its perfect balance between scandal and heart.

How Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story let emotion overpower its plot…

Queen Charlotte aimed to tell a love story full of pain, duty, and sacrifice, and on an emotional level,...

Why Nicola Coughlan Is the Soul of ‘Bridgerton’ and Deserves an Emmy Nomination
Image
Anyone who’s seen Nicola Coughlan in “Derry Girls” knows that she’s a brilliant comedic performer. As nerdy teenager Clare Devlin, Coughlan made teenage anxiety immensely physical and palpable — firing her dialogue with all the air in her lungs, walking with so much propulsive energy she was nearly tripping over herself.

In “Bridgerton” Season 3, Coughlan similarly portrays adolescent turmoil, but through subtler and more internal means. As wallflower Penelope Featherington, who harbors a double identity as the controversial Lady Whistledown, Coughlan was tasked not just with making the ton’s resident introvert a mesmerizing lead but also with bringing humanity to her character’s morally ambiguous actions.

Coughlan nails it: the hit Netflix show’s third season sees Penelope fully step into the spotlight as a romantic interest. In Penelope’s evolution, Coughlan captures how a young woman’s coming of age is defined as much by her own...

Criminal Minds Season 18 Episode 5 Recap: Will Voit Cooperate With The Bau Team?
Image
So the assumption made in the previous episode of Criminal Minds, about Voit trying to trigger his psychopathic true self by making Bau show him a pre-recorded video of himself, turns out to be wrong, at least for now. The masked man shown in the video uploaded to Voit’s serial killer network, Bau-gate, turns out to be one of his disciples, who wreaks havoc in the latest episode, titled “The Brutal Man.” On the other hand, JJ has a hard time dealing with the pain of Will’s loss while working on a case that hits too close to home.

Spoilers Ahead

Benedict’s Fluidity Becomes Canon in Bridgerton, but His Classic Romance Isn’t Gone
Image
Dearest gentle readers, it seems the ton is abuzz with whispers of the ever-enigmatic Benedict Bridgerton. The second son, long cloaked in mystery and creative flair, has finally stepped into the light, and dare I say, with splendid fluidity. Yes, his romantic horizons have expanded in this season’s most delightful twist, but fret not, hopeless romantics. His classic charm and longing for a grand love story are far from vanished.

As the ballroom twirls and expectations shift, one cannot help but wonder: will Benedict follow the brush of passion or the ink of tradition? The hearts seem to be in motion.

How Lifeguard Unleashed the Melodies Inside Their Punk Noise
Image
About a year ago, Lifeguard had an epiphany. They’d been hammering away on a 10-minute noise suite in their hometown of Chicago, layering waves of improvised cacophony into a fearsome slab of sound that they hoped would anchor their full-length debut. Then they realized they didn’t need it.

“We had all these pop songs, but for some reason, we felt the need to have this more punishing thing in the middle, to establish some coolness or something,” recalls the trio’s drummer, Isaac Lowenstein, 18. “But that’s actually stupid.

‘Bridgerton’ Gave Penelope a Fairy Tale and Forgot Who She Stepped on to Get There
Image
Bridgerton finally handed Penelope her fairy tale romance, but in the process, it completely ignored the damage she left in her wake. While fans cheered her glow-up and swooned over her long-awaited love story, the show quietly brushed past the betrayal, manipulation, and hurt she caused in earlier seasons. From throwing others under the carriage to securing her own happy ending, the journey wasn’t exactly spotless.

But instead of confronting that mess, the script chose to focus on ballgowns and butterflies. In the end, it’s a sweet love story, but one built on secrets that everyone seems eager to forget.

Dearest gentle reader, this author has once again succumbed to the irresistible charm of Bridgerton—a show as decadent as the Queen’s diamond-studded tiara and twice as addictive. While Lady Whistledown remains ever so silent and we are embroiled in the secrecy of Season 4, let us turn our attention to the delicate traditional drama in the ton.

Bridgerton has always adored a proper debut, and Season 3 is no exception. Enter Francesca Bridgerton, our latest debutante—pragmatic, poised, and positively captivating. Played by the graceful Hannah Dodd, who seamlessly steps into a recast role, Francesca makes her grand entrance not only into society but into our hearts.

And let it be said: she did not simply attend the ball—she owned it.

Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton, and every ‘Bridgerton’ Emmy acting submission — What about Jonathan Bailey?
Image
Netflix will submit nine cast members from Bridgerton Season 3 for Emmy consideration, Gold Derby has learned.

Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Bridgerton (née Featherington) will submit in Best Drama Actress, while Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton will compete in Best Drama Actor. It would be the first Emmy nominations for both performers. Coughlan is coming off her first individual bid at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where the entire ensemble was also recognized.

In the featured categories, Daniel Francis as Marcus Anderson, Martins Inhangbe as Will Mondrich, and Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton have been entered in Best Drama Supporting Actor, while Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury, Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton, and Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte have been submitted in Best Drama Supporting Actress.

So, what about Jonathan Bailey? As his Lord Anthony Bridgerton was the main character in Bridgerton Season 2, Bailey understandably campaigned in Best Drama Actor last time.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Could Ruin Nicola Coughlan’s Lady Whistledown, and I’m Not Rooting for It at All
Image
Through three seasons of Bridgerton, we’ve all been habituated to Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington dropping the ton’s hottest gossip as Lady Whistledown. So recently, when she said that Penelope might not enjoy being famous in Season 4, I nearly dropped my teacup. I mean, excuse me?

The entire show thrives on the scandalous steam she dishes out as Lady Whistledown. If she suddenly gets all shy and unsure, who’s going to drag the ton with savage wit and eyebrow-raising one-liners? Look, I get that Penelope is now a mother and all, but I’m not tuning in for baby giggles—I want reputation-ruining ink spills.

Nicola Coughlan reflected on Penelope’s future as Lady Whistledown in Season 4

‘Bridgerton’s Most Useless Character Might Be Eloise’s Endgame, And It’s the Slow-burn Romance We Deserve
Image
Chris Van Dusen has not shied away from making some bold changes to Julia Quinn’s original work in Netflix’s adaptation of Bridgerton. Quinn’s books were largely a traditional take on the lives of the members of the Bridgerton family.

Dusen knew that he was going for something entirely different. And that shows. The Netflix series has made the story more racially inclusive, introducing characters into the fold. Moreover, one of the most telling changes is the hint towards the embrace of queer relationships. And an interesting fan theory suggests that one queer relationship is already on the cards.

The faithful of the books would know that Cressida Cowper is not central to the story. The only meaningful contribution she made was the whole...

‘Bridgerton’ Season 1’s Idea of Diversity Is Letting One Chubby Girl Wear Ugly Dresses
Image
Bridgerton Season 1 promised a diverse, dazzling ballroom, but somehow confused that with tossing one chubby girl into a pile of hideous dresses. While everyone else twirled in silks and satins, poor Penelope Featherington got stuck wearing outfits that looked like rejected couch covers. If this was Bridgerton’s idea of body positivity, someone clearly spiked the tea.

In a world built on beauty and scandal, letting the only plus-size character be a walking fashion disaster feels less like inclusion and more like an afterthought.

Bridgerton season 1 reduced Nicola Coughlan’s character to ugly dresses Nicola Coughlan in Bridgerton | Credits: Netflix

When Bridgerton first hit Netflix, it promised lavish drama, forbidden romance, and, supposedly, diversity. But what it actually served was one plus-size character, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), trapped in a parade of painfully unflattering dresses.

And if you’re a true rom-com fan, you know the real magic isn’t...

‘Bridgerton’s Lady Featherington Trying to Marry Prudence to a Cousin Is So ‘Game of Thrones’ But So Much Dumber
Image
Dearest gentle readers, it is with the greatest delight that I pen this missive: Bridgerton Season 4 shall soon grace our screens, setting our hearts aflutter once more! With its return comes the Ton — and, naturally, the slow-burn romances we adore, full of stolen glances, forbidden touches, and whispered promises that make even the most composed of us clutch our pearls.

As a professional fangirl of the Ton, allow me to confess: I am positively Swooning in anticipation. For as our beloved characters continue to mingle, scheme, and seduce, we readers, once so gentle, find ourselves anything but.

And now, before the next season sweeps us away in a new flurry of drama and desire, a pressing matter demands our attention: the curious case of the Featheringtons. Why is Lady Featherington so singularly obsessed with producing a male heir? And who, exactly, is Cousin Jack Featherington, and what devilry has he wrought?...

This Great 2-Year-Old Sitcom Abandoned Its Plot Way Too Soon (& Was Canceled as a Result)
Image
Sitcoms tend to be short-lived affairs. Most last no more than two seasons, and only the best manage to thrive. It’s a cutthroat niche, and shows generally need some sort of gimmick to survive. Parks and Recreation used its bureaucratic background, while The Office revolutionized workplace comedy. On the other hand, ABC’s Not Dead Yetwas much different.

Casey Johnson and David Windsor’s workplace comedy happily adopted an uncommon fantasy elementand routinely added supernatural intrigue to the plot. Pseudo-ghosts were Not Dead Yet’s gimmick, and they gave the series its charm, wit, and character. However, they essentially disappeared midway through the show’s second season. While this change wasn’t the only reason for its untimely cancelation in 2024, it dealt a massive blow to the otherwise vibrant comedy. This seemingly small choice doomed Not Dead Yet to a brief two-season run, and it’s not the only...

Bridgerton author shares exciting update on season 4 (one book fans will appreciate)
Image
Bridgerton season 4 is currently in production with Netflix hard at work in bringing fans the next season of its regency-era romantic drama.

The fourth season of the series will see the focus shifting to Benedict as the show adapts the third novel in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, An Offer From a Gentleman, and tells the love story of Benedict and Sophie Beckett. It’s a story that fans anticipated would be told in the show’s third season; however, Netflix surprised us all by skipping over Benedict’s story to jump ahead to the fourth book in the franchise by centering season 3 around Colin and Penelope’s story.

As in past seasons, Netflix is keeping a tight lid on the specifics of the season; however, the woman behind the iconic series has offered up an exciting update that is sure to please book fans, in particular!

Why Kourtney Kardashian Halted Filming Of ‘The Kardashians’ For A 20-Minute Quickie With Travis Barker—Here’s How They Set A New ‘Record’
Image
Kourtney’s Filming Pause ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Kourtney Kardashian hit pause on filming The Kardashians — and no, it wasn’t for a wardrobe change. The reality star made the crew wait while she and husband Travis Barker snuck off for a 20-minute quickie, setting what she later called a new record time.

In the season three premiere, which dropped on May 25, Kourtney revealed to Khloé Kardashian that she was ovulating. And she wasn’t about to waste the opportunity. “If you give us five minutes to go do something really fast…” she teased. Khloé wasn’t convinced. “Are you really ovulating?” she asked. Kourtney’s answer was firm. “Yes, I am.”

Determined to make it snappy, Kourtney even started a timer. “Well, let’s see if it takes five minutes.” Spoiler alert: it didn’t. When she finally returned, Khloé made her guess the time on the stopwatch. Turns out,...

The Boring & Beautiful: Sorrentino’s Tone Deaf Portrait of a Lady

It’s unfortunate no one’s as likely to be infatuated with the eponymous Parthenope (pronounced like ‘Penelope’) as Paolo Sorrentino, utilizing the myth of the failed siren as subtext for a bildungsroman about a beautiful young woman in 1970s Naples. Having borrowed (or rather plundered) the narrative aesthetics of Fellini over the past decade, perhaps no where more successfully than with his 2013 success The Great Beauty, Sorrentino turns to mythology to bolster the rise of a Napolitano goddess amongst the angsty social scene whose denizens have grown numbly accustomed to the languid paradise around them.…...

The Odyssey: Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin & Samantha Morton round out the cast of Christopher Nolan’s epic
Image
Last Updated on February 3, 2025

As usual, Christopher Nolan is stacking his next project with an all-star cast, and the latest additions include a few Nolan alumni. It’s been announced that Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton have joined The Odyssey, Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem.

Page played Ariadne in Inception, while Patel played Mahir in Tenet. Irwin is also a Nolan veteran, but you wouldn’t recognize his face. He voiced Tars in Interstellar and physically controlled the robot on-set. There’s no information on who these new additions will play in The Odyssey, but they join a cast that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, and John Leguizamo.

Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin & Samantha Morton Set Voyage For Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Image
Christopher Nolan’s next big epic at Universal, The Odyssey, has added Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton.

For Patel, Page and Irwin, it’s a reteam with the 2x Oscar-winning filmmaker. Patel starred in Nolan’s 2020 Tenet, Page in 2010’s Inception, and Irwin in 2014’s Interstellar. For 2x Oscar nominee Morton, it’s her first time working with Nolan.

The foursome join a booming ensemble that counts Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie and Charlize Theron.

Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The classic explores themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. The tale includes iconic stories like Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe,...

John Leguizamo joins the cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey
Image
Christopher Nolan’s next film is shaping up with his signature use of name actors in his ensemble cast. It was recently reported that he will once again be working with Benny Safdie after having the director play a sizable role in Oppenheimer. Variety is now reporting that John Leguizamo is now joining the cast of Nolan’s historical epic. The Odyssey features an all-star list that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Jon Bernthal. There has yet to be an announcement on what roles each actor will be playing.

When Universal Pictures officially announced the project last year, the studio described it as “a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” Production is slated to kick off in late February, and some reports state that this could be Nolan’s most expensive film to date.

With Bridgerton Season 4 still a ways away, who would blame fans for being too eager for updates about the much-awaited chapter? It's no news that the chapter will revolve around another Bridgerton chap, Benedict (Luke Thompson), and his love interest, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), whose status in society is a far cry from his. Nonetheless, these two won’t be the only focus as something’s coming for Season 3’s main couple, Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).

The Odyssey | Benny Safdie joins cast of Christopher Nolan’s opus
Benny Safdie
Having appeared in Oppenheimer, Benny Safdie is working with Christopher Nolan again in the latter’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey.

It says a great deal about the anticipation surrounding Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, that respected Hollywood trade outlets are speculating over which specific Mediterranean islands the director is likely to film on.

Will he film on the Egadi archipelago, or perhaps the Eiolian islands? Variety's sources have suggested they’re potential locations, as is Favignana in Sicily.

Islands aside, there’s the casting to think about. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Benny Safdie, a talented filmmaker and director, is again teaming with Nolan on his new opus. Safdie, you may recall, played the likeably brusque physicist Edward Teller in 2023’s Oppenheimer; his casting in The Odyssey means he’ll be joining the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron in the ensemble.

Benny Safdie joins the cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

THR reports that Benny Safdie is set to reunite with Christopher Nolan for The Odyssey, the director’s epic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem.

The Odyssey tells the tale of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his journey home after the ten-year Trojan War. Bridgerton went a step further with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, where the Queen's mysterious marriage with King George got a tender representation. With Bridgerton Season 3 now streaming on Netflix, fans have finally got to sink into the slow-brewing romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton.

Love, longing, and steamy romance are, without a doubt, the strength of the Shondaland adaptation of Julia Quinn's Regency romance novels. Each season explores a different and fascinating love story, and the dialogue is the foundation of the adoration and devotion in the show. Characters like Anthony, Simon, Daphne, Colin, Penelope, and Kate have said some of the most romantic quotes of all time in Bridgerton,...

10 Rebooted TV Shows That Were as Successful as the Original Series
Image
Television has evolved by leaps and bounds over the past several decades. While original series still exist, much of what viewers tune into on cable, network TV, and even streaming is a reboot of a past property. While this can certainly play to nostalgia, the quality can vary wildly from show to show.

Some will argue that reboots can never live up to their predecessors. However, the argument can also be made that some are just as good and just as successful as the shows that came before them.

A Single Mother Struggles to Handle Family Life in One Day at a Time

The reboot of One Day at a Time tells the story of Cuban American single mother Penelope Alvarez (played by Justina Machado). Eventually, Penelope's Cuban mother, Lydia Riera (played by Rita Moreno), moves in to help her raise the kids. Just as in the original that...

Image
The third season of Bridgerton ended with Nicola Coughlan‘s Penelope Featherington marrying Luke Newton‘s Colin Bridgerton, and the actress is happy to confirm that she now refers to her beloved character with her new last name. “Yeah, she’s now Penelope Bridgerton, and that’s the name on the trailer when I go in — it’s quite cute,” Coughlan tells Gold Derby. “She’s very much in the family now. It’s very, very sweet. She’s graduated to Bridgerton status.”

Addressing the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards, where she was nominated for drama actress and drama ensemble, Coughlan readily admits, “I did not think I had any chance in the world [to be nominated]. I wasn’t even tuned in. I knew the nominations were coming out, but I was not on my phone. I’d completely forgotten about it, if I’m being honest. I was getting ready to...

Christopher Nolan is set to film The Odyssey at the Sicilian ‘Goat Island’ — the location of Odysseus’ landing
Image
Christopher Nolan is known for his realism in movies and his passion for shooting practically whenever he can. The director of The Dark Knight trilogy has flipped a semi-truck longways, hung a plane vertically from another plane and even crashed a plane into a hanger for real when the logistics he calculated stated that it would actually be cheaper to do so instead of turning to CGI. And while there are some things that just can’t be done practically, Nolan hasn’t lost his passion for being as truthful to his production as he possibly can. And let’s face it, he probably won’t have a shortage of money provided by the studio at his current status.

Variety is reporting that Nolan is set to film parts of his new epic, The Odyssey, in Sicily. According to scholars, Odysseus’ travels would land him there, as told by Homer...

Christopher Nolan Set to Shoot Part of ‘The Odyssey’ on Sicilian ‘Goat Island,’ Where Odysseus Landed (Exclusive)
Image
Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey” will be partly filmed in Sicily which, according to scholars, was a location for Odysseus’ wanderings in the epic composed by Homer around 8th century Bce.

Shooting of the Sicilian portion of Nolan’s “Odyssey” is expected to start in roughly two months on the island of Favignana, known as “goat island,” which is believed to be the place where Homer envisioned Odysseus landed with his motley crew to barbecue goats and stock up on food. The idyllic isle is part of the Egadi archipelago off of Sicily’s north-west coast.

Nolan – who is shooting “The Odyssey” using brand new Imax film technology – is also likely to film some of the big-budget epic in Sicily’s Eolian islands, according to several sources. But the bulk of the mythical action movie’s Sicily shoot will be in Favignana. The film’s other announced locations are the U.

"It's Been An Interesting Few Years": Phoebe Dynevor Reflects On Post-Bridgerton Life & Potential Daphne Return
Image
Bridgerton's Phoebe Dyneover reflects on her career following her breakout role as Daphne and touches on a possible return to the Netflix series. In the role of Daphne Bridgerton, later Daphne Basset, Dyneover was a factor in the initial success of the Julia Quinn adaptation. She would become one of the show's first standouts, alongside scene partner Regé-Jean Page, and has earned praise for her performance in the thriller Fair Play opposite Alden Ehrenreich. She'll next lead the espionage action film Inheritance, which will be released in theaters on January 24.

In an interview with Screen Rant's Grant Hermanns to discuss Inheritance, Dyneover reflects on her career after breaking out as Daphne. She says it's been “an interesting few years”, noting how Bridgerton season 1 came out early on in the Covid-19 pandemic and Fair Play was released amidst the actors' strike in the later months of 2023. As far as whether she'd revisit Daphne,...

4 Netflix shows that had split seasons (but shouldn't have)
Image
When Netflix first started releasing its own original scripted content, the streamer did so with the revolutionary concept of binge-watching. Every episode was released all at once! We didn't have to wait a week in between new episodes! We could watch at our own pace! It was great, and still is, but Netflix has introduced a new release pattern for some of its shows: the split season.

Netflix introduced the two-part release strategy for its shows long before the actors' and writers' strikes impacted the film and television industry in 2023. Money Heist released its seasons in parts, as did comedies The Ranch and Fuller House, but those instances of split seasons were nothing compared to those we're seeing now.

The decision to divide Stranger Things season 4 into two parts in the summer of 2022 seemed to ignite the idea and put it into practice in a major way.The Witcher season...

Bridgerton star reveals they haven't been invited back for season 4
Image
Production on Bridgerton season 4 is well underway, but it seems one member of the show’s ensemble has not yet gotten the call to return for the upcoming season of Netflix’s hit regency drama.

In a new interview with The Direct, season 1 lead Phoebe Dynevor revealed that she has yet to be approached by the show about returning for the upcoming fourth season.

"I mean, they've not called me yet. And I think they're shooting Season 4 right now. So, I'm still waiting for that call,” Dynevor revealed when asked whether she would be returning to reprise her role as Daphne Bridgerton in season 4.

It’s hard to know whether Dynevor could be pulling an Andrew Garfield – claiming she is not attached in order to help keep her involvement in the season under the radar – but we sadly worry that this is not an act. Dynevor made similar comments about...

10 Bizarre TV Crossovers We Want After Abbott Elementary & It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Image
The Abbott Elementary crossover with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was chaotic in the best way possible, but there are other outlandish crossover combinations that could be magic. Abbott Elementary’s creator Quinta Brunson and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia showrunner Rob McElhenney worked together to make the impossible come true: the FX sitcom “Gang” meeting the Abbott teachers. There were a million reasons why it shouldn’t have worked, but the crossover was a hit.

Aside from hidden It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia references in the Abbott Elementary episode, the crossover had the unlikely pair change each other for the better. While McElhenney’s Mac helped Ava (Janelle James) blackmail the golf course, Charlie Day's Charlie Kelly learned how to read at Abbott Elementary. At the same time, the crossover protected the unique identities of both titles. Despite how unconventional a crossover may be, it could be a...
