It took Ridley Scott twenty years to return to the Roman Colosseum with Gladiator II, but he is already plotting his third trip to Ancient Rome.

“I’d rather get on into Gladiator III,” Scott told The Hollywood Reporter Thursday when asked about a different potential next project for the 86-year-old filmmaker. “There’s already an idea.” He added that he’s taking inspiration from The Godfather Part II for the next story.

The Gladiator 3 news first trickled out Friday after the French publication Premiere published similar comments from Scott.

Gladiator II opens Nov. 22 and arrives 20 years after Scott’s Gladiator, which won five Oscars, including best picture and best actor for Russell Crowe. Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen star in the new film.

Scott remains one of the most prolific directors working in Hollywood, a filmmaker who at times release two films in a single year.

Exclusive: Mark Subias, UTA partner and head of theater, is exiting the agency to take a newly created job at production company Smuggler.

Subias, who has headed UTA’s Theater department for the past decade, will join Smuggler as Managing Partner of a new management arm at Smuggler, an international commercial, theater and film production company. Subias also will be developing and producing projects across theater, TV and film for the company.

UTA has signed BAFTA and Golden Globe winning actor Bill Nighy in all areas. The global talent, entertainment and sports company will help build upon Nighy’s career across a range of verticals.

Over a career spanning five decades, Nighy won several awards, including a supporting actor film BAFTA for “Love Actually” (2003), the BAFTA TV best actor award for “State of Play” (2003) and the Golden Globe for best actor in a miniseries for “Gideon’s Daughter.” He is also known for his roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

All signs pointed to true crime drama Mindhunter being donezo at Netflix. The second season came and went last August with nary a world about a third season. Then Netflix went ahead and confirmed that the show was in a holding (not Holden) pattern with all the actors released from their contracts.

Now, the most authoritative source of them all, director David Fincer, has confirmed what we pretty much already knew. There will be no more seasons of Mindhunter, at least not for the foreseeable future.

In an interview with Vulture to promote Fincher’s upcoming film Mank, the director broke the news of Mindhunter’s de facto cancellation.

Mindhunter season 3 has been put on indefinite hold while David Fincher works on his passion projects.

Mindhunter season 3 is now looking more unlikely, as Netflix has confirmed this week that the main cast have been released from their contracts and allowed to pursue other roles.

“David [Fincher] is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement about the decision. “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”

Stars Holt McCallany, Jonathan Groff, and Anna Torv are now free to work on whatever they please, and will not be tied into a third season of the serial killer thriller series.
