Why Key Big Bang Theory Star Would Be Fine Not Returning To The Franchise Thoughtfully Explained
Image
One TheBig Bang Theory star revealed why they would be okay not returning to play the role they inhabited for 12 years for the spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, or beyond. The latest spinoff in the Tbbt universe, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is being developed by Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Zak Penn for HBO Max.

Speaking to Screen Rant’s Grant Hermanns, Simon Helberg revealed that there are no plans for Howard Wolowitz to return in new Tbbt spinoffs. Helberg mindfully explained why Howard not returning is good based on the character’s development in Big Bang Theory, whose end gave closure to Howard’s story, something that could be upset by Howard returning. Read Helberg’s words below:

ScreenRant: Can we possibly look forward to seeing Howard come back? And whether or not you can say, what would you like to see from Howard...

With Stuart Fails to Save the Universe officially on the way, here's everything you need to know about the series.

What is it about?

Though not a direct continuation of The Big Bang Theory, the premise of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe stems straight from hijinks of the central cast, in particular Jim Parsons' Sheldon and Johnny Galecki's Leonard."

Here's the official logline from HBO Max:

‘The Big Bang Theory’ Enters The Multiverse As Sci-Fi Spinoff ‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’ Gets HBO Max Pickup & Sets Up More Og Returns
Image
Warner Bros. Discovery streamer HBO Max’s first order of business after officially changing its name is to officially order to series The Big Bang Theory spinoff Stuart Fails To Save The Universe starring the mothership series’ Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie.

The Big Bang Theory co-creator and franchise steward Chuck Lorre, who executive produces the latest offshoot with fellow Big Bang co-creator Bill Prady and The Avengers’ Zak Penn, recently revealed that Sftstu “is trying to incorporate some of the world of science fiction, fantasy into a comedy” and will feature extensive CGI.

The pickup announcement expands on that with a detailed description of the premise which evokes superhero movie mythology while opening the door for other original Big Bang cast members to reprise their roles — sort of — in what Prady calls “a complex science fiction story.”

Sftstu is set in the future, after the events in Big Bang.

‘Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ a Go at HBO Max
Image
In keeping with the scientific concept that is its namesake, the universe of The Big Bang Theory keeps expanding.

HBO Max has formally greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a comedy that will center on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), who had a heavily recurring role on the original CBS series. The show comes from Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and Zak Penn (Free Guy, Beacon 23) — and unlike the original series and its other spinoffs, Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, it will feature a heavy dose of sci-fi alongside its comedy.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is the first series pickup for the newly re-renamed HBO Max, whose changeover from Max went live on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to be continuing the legacy of The Big Bang Theory,” said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content.

Drew Goddard’s Upcoming Matrix Film Rumored to Return Iconic Franchise Lead
Image
Warner Bros. Discovery is set to expand the Matrix universe with a new film helmed by director Drew Goddard, known for Bad Times at the El Royale. The project, announced in April 2024, marks the first Matrix movie not directed by the Wachowski sisters, though Lana Wachowski will serve as an executive producer.

The latest rumors come from scooper Daniel Richtman, who shared that “The idea is to have Keanu Reeves back for the next Matrix movie.” This suggests Neo’s story isn’t over yet.

The Matrix franchise began with the groundbreaking 1999 film, which earned widespread acclaim. Its 2003 sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, received mixed reviews, and 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski without Lilly, struggled to win over fans.

Drew Goddard’s New Matrix Movie Reportedly Set to Bring Back Key Franchise Star
Image
Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing a new chapter to the Matrix universe, and Drew Goddard, known for directing Bad Times at the El Royale, is set to lead the project. The new Matrix movie has fans wondering if this will be a reboot, a spin-off, or a continuation of the story we already know.

What’s clear is that the hope is for the franchise to bounce back after some recent mixed reactions.

The original Matrix came out in 1999 and was a huge hit, praised by critics and fans alike. Its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions released in 2003, didn’t quite get the same love. Then in 2021, Lana Wachowski returned (without her sister Lilly) to direct The Matrix Resurrections, which also had a tough time winning over fans.

The latest rumors come from scooper Daniel Richtman, who shared that “The idea is to have Keanu Reeves back for the next Matrix movie.

Is CGI-Heavy Big Bang Theory Spinoff Poised to Be a Superhero Satire?
Image
The latest Big Bang Theory universe expansion has the potential to look and feel unlike any offshoot that came before it — and based on several clues, I’m beginning to think it will.

Whereas Young Sheldon served as a prequel chronicling Sheldon Cooper’s childhood, and sequel-to-the-prequel Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has continued that story but shifted focus to Sheldon’s older brother and sister-in-law, HBO Max’s Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will serve as a direct continuation, and pick up after the events of Big Bang’s 2019 series finale.

The Big Bang Theory's Stuart Spin-Off Will Take The Franchise In An Unexpected Direction
Image
"The Big Bang Theory" is one of the most successful network sitcoms in the history of television, and, given that we're only six years removed from the end of its 12-season run, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the spin-off series are still coming. Though "Young Sheldon" concluded its run last year, the direct sequel, "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage," leapt right into the void to keep fans of the show engaged. Since all of these series have, thus far, been Nielsen ratings juggernauts, it makes sense that creator Chuck Lorre has decided to throw another spin-off into the mix. After all, if "All in the Family" could have multiple spin-offs running at the same time in the 1970s, why not see if fans will make time for one other show that takes place in this immensely popular universe?

The next series up should be "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,...

News about some The Big Bang Theory cast members reprising their roles in October 2024 made the spinoff feel more solid, but it has yet to be picked up by HBO Max.

Speaking on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Banff World Media Festival, Lorre revealed new information about Stuart Fails To Save The Universe (via Variety). Lorre’s updates focused both on Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’s key characteristics that set it apart from The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, like the presence of “a lot of CGI,” and on how many episodes he worked on with Bill Prady and Zak Penn.

The Movie Steven Spielberg Said Was His Most Difficult To Make Since 'Saving Private Ryan' Finds Success on Streaming 7 Years Later
Image
Featuring the talent of Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Andor’s Ben Mendelsohn, and British favorite Simon Pegg, who recently wrapped up the final installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Steven Spielberg’s dystopian sci-fi adventure Ready Player One is a movie many might've forgotten. However, despite falling to the back of some minds since its release seven years ago, it seems the Zak Penn-written cyberpunk thriller has found a streaming renaissance over recent weeks, officially finishing at #9 in the Max Top 10 as of May 26, 2025.

Boasting a "certified fresh" 71% from critics and an even stronger 77% from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Ready Player One was a hit with critics and viewers alike upon release, soldiifed by its CinemaScore of A-, matching previous Spielberg-led movies such as Catch Me if You Can and War Horse. In Collider's official review of the film back when it opened, Matt Goldberg wrote,...

'I Couldn't Help It': The Big Bang Theory Star Reveals How He 'Pissed Everyone Off' on Set
Image
The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar has admitted that he annoyed co-stars on the classic sitcom by often breaking character. Nayyar memorably played astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali on the CBS sitcom.

Nayyar reflected on the early seasons of the sitcom for his appearance on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, where he said it was hard for him to keep a straight face while filming many of the funniest scenes. The actor light-heartedly fessed up that he was "the worst in the beginning on the show" because he "broke all the time."

Kunal Nayyar Reflects on Early Years of The Big Bang Theory

"[Breaking character] really pissed everyone off, but I couldn't help it," he recalled. "I would also break a lot of my own jokes, which is funny. But I mean, how can you [not], Simon [Helberg, co-star] is a genius."

Nayyar explained that it was "very hard for [him] to keep a straight face...

Warner Bros. TV Chief Dishes on Whether Classic 'Big Bang Theory' Characters Will Appear in the "Very Funny" Spin-Off
Image
Although Max's The Big Bang Theory spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, has been in development for years and still has yet to receive an official green light, Warner Bros. Television's Chairperson and CEO Channing Dungey is feeling positive about where the series is going. In a wide-ranging interview with Deadline about the company's many small-screen programs, she was asked about the status of the show now that a title has been announced, and the cast has come in for an informal table read. We're still a ways away from seeing the return of the characters from Chuck Lorre's sitcom universe, but she assured that work is still going apace for the creative team. Moreover, she believes a decision on the Kevin Sussman-led show could finally be coming soon, given the status of the scripts, and it could involve some fan-favorites returning.

A Minecraft Movie, and its 28 writers
Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen in A Minecraft Movie (2025)
Sitting atop the global box office is A Minecraft Movie, a film that’s taken 11 years and 28 writers to get to the screen.

After struggling in development for the best part of a decade, cinemas were packed out this past weekend as A Minecraft Movie opened to the kind of numbers we’ve not seen for a while. Over $300m of business was done around the globe in the three days, and with school holidays kicking off, Warner Bros’ bank balance should look a fair amount healthier by the time the film has completed its run.

It’s little secret that A Minecraft Movie went through plenty of creatives on its way to the screen, though, with Jared Hess the director who finally got it completed. But also, a lot of writers were involved. The final WGA-sanctioned credits for the film list six different names. Story on the film is credited to Allison Schroeder,...

‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’: 6 Things We Know So Far
Image
When it comes to entertainment, nothing quite matches the sprawling world of television comedies. From old iconic sitcoms like The Dick Van Dyke Show to the more recent ones like The Modern Family, there is something for all kinds of audiences. In this goldmine of a genre, there is one particular sitcom that stands out for its unique premise and theme: The Big Bang Theory.

A geeky and nerdy sitcom featuring the love-to-hate and hate-to-love character of Sheldon Cooper, the CBS sitcom has captured the hearts of millions of fans with its quirky ensemble of socially awkward scientists and their equally endearing friends, blending geekiness with sharp humor. After 12 brilliant seasons and an epic conclusion, the show came to an end in 2019.

While it became a television juggernaut and a cultural phenomenon, the show has spawned an equally brilliant spin-off, Young Sheldon, which also concluded a while ago.

Funny Footage: 6 Found Footage Horror Comedies to Watch
Image
Studies suggest that human laughter might have evolved as a way of communicating that a perceived source of danger is actually harmless. That’s why it makes sense that horror comedies were invented almost immediately after actual horror films, as there’s no better way of dealing with fear than laughing at media-induced collective nightmares.

This ancient custom even applies to more recent and immersive sub-genres, as not even the visceral scares of Found Footage movies are immune to the occasional dose of dark humor. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six Found Footage horror-comedies for your viewing pleasure. After all, not every Pov horror flick needs to be an ultra serious compilation of glitches and jump-scares.

While this list is obviously based on personal opinion, we’ll be limiting entries to original Found Footage movies only – which means no spoofs or...

The Big Bang Theory’ Cast Reassembles For Spin-Off Table Read in New BTS Images
Image
The Big Bang Theoryfirst premiered in September 2007, and after nearly 300 episodes across 12 seasons, the science-centric show is getting yet another spinoff, different from the previous two offshoots on CBS. Officially titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the show will likely be the most similar of the spinoffs to The Big Bang Theory. John Ross Bowie, who plays Barry Kripke, a fan-favorite and Sheldon Cooper's arch-nemesis in the original series, has revealed that the cast of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's upcoming spinoff has gathered for the first time.

Taking to social media, Bowie shared a lovely ensemble photo during the first table read for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The images capture him alongside co-starsKevin Sussman, whose character, Stuart, leads the show, Lauren Lapkus (Denise), and Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler). The spinoff has been in development for some time now, and its recently revealed official does...

The Big Bang Theory Spinoff BTS Photo Released as Cast Reunites for Table Read
Image
The next The Big Bang Theory spinoff series continues to inch towards an official greenlight from Max. The cast of the spinoff, which includes four returning Big Bang Theory stars, recently reunited for an informal table read put together by franchise co-creator Chuck Lorre.

John Ross Bowie, who is reprising his role as plasma physicist Barry Kripke from the original series, shared on Instagramtwo behind-the-scenes photos of the spinoff's main quartet. Joining Bowie in the photo are The Big Bang Theory alums Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus, who are set to reprise their roles in the potential spinoff as comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom, geologist Bert Kibbler, and Stuart's girlfriend/co-worker Denise. A third photo featured a sign for the Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (Sftsu) table read.

‘Sftsu’: ‘Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff Cast Workshops Scripts Ahead Of Max Greenlight Decision
Image
The Big Bang Theory spinoff has taken another step toward a likely series greenlight at Max. The four stars of the project, which Deadline revealed last week will be titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, convened at Warner Bros. Studios March 24.

“And so it begins …,” John Ross Bowie, who is reprising his Big Bang character Barry Kripke, wrote on Ig next to photos of himself, and fellow Big Bang alums Kevin Sussman (Stuart Bloom), Lauren Lapkus (Denise) and Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler), tagging both #sftsu and #tbbt.

Despite the sign included in Bowie’s photos, “Sftsu Table Read,” I hear this was not an official table read sanctioned by Max or the spinoff’s studio, Warner Bros. Television, which would imply a green light.

Instead, the quartet got together to go over the two finished scripts by the Sftsu writers, Chuck Lorre, co-creator and executive producer of Big Bang...

Dwayne Johnson Once Starred In A Tie-In Video Game For A Movie That Got Cancelled
Image
The first "Spy Hunter" video game was released in 1983 and was played by many a Gen-x arcade brat. Notably, "Spy Hunter" had licensed Henry Mancini's theme for "Peter Gunn," and the digital rendition burned its way into the brains of the people who played it. In "Spy Hunter," you controlled a high-tech white spy car. It was equipped with guns and weapons, allowing it to sail down an endless highway, shooting and destroying enemy vehicles. One played the game by wielding a trigger-encrusted steering wheel. If you shot an innocent bystander, you were penalized for a few seconds.

The 1983 cabinet launched a miniature gaming franchise that included a "Spy Hunter" pinball machine, which was ported over to ColecoVision and the Nintendo Entertainment System. "Spy Hunter II" hit arcades in 1987, while an updated reboot version of the game was made for PlayStation 2 and the GameCube (and other systems) in 2001. Eventually,...

“He was very creepy”: We All Felt Bad For This Guy From The Big Bang Theory and Now He is Getting His Own Jim Parsons Less Spin Off
Image
For years, fans of The Big Bang Theory pitied and cringed at the awkward, down-on-his-luck comic book store owner, Stuart Bloom. Played by Kevin Sussman, Stuart was a socially inept but well-meaning character who struggled with loneliness, finances, and finding love.

Now, in a surprising turn of events, he is set to headline his own spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which has just been confirmed as the official title of the upcoming Big Bang Theory offshoot on Max.

The title of The Big Bang Theory spin-off on Max is so on theme
Image
If The Big Bang Theory spin-off on Max does officially get picked up by the streamer soon, the series now has its official title! Even though there's been lots of news and updates about the show, it technically has not gotten the official green light yet. But with each new detail, it seems to be heading in that direction. So if it does, what's the sitcom going to be called?

The Big Bang Theory spin-off's official name is Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Deadline reports. Well, the name of the comedy is certainly on theme since the original series is about the origins of the universe, and the brilliant scientists who contributed to figuring out some of the answers in our vast world. While Stuart, who was a constant guest star on the show, was always sad and depressed. So the funny title definitely makes sense.

Stuart is constantly down on his luck,...

Big Bang Theory Spinoff Title Reveals Main Character
Image
The Big Bang Theory's upcoming spinoff gets an official title, which effectively confirms the show's official lead character. Despite the ongoing success of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Chuck Lorre is also pumping the gas in the development of the third spinoff in his comedy franchise that would take place years after the end of The Big Bang Theory. Reteaming with Bill Prady for the new show, the project will see the return of some familiar faces from the nerd-centric sitcom, as they become the new faces of the endeavor now that the story of the Pasadena gang is done.

Per Deadline, Lorre and Prady's The Big Bang Theory spinoff sequel is officially called Stuart Fails To Save The Universe. This confirms that Kevin Sussman's awkward but lovable comic book shop owner will be the face of the new comedy. Joining him is Lauren Lapkus, as Denise, Stuart's girlfriend,...
