Marvel's newest addition to the MCU has the most unique origin story
T'Nia Miller in The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Meet T'Nia Miller, a mesmerizing British actress known for her roles in The Haunting of Bly Manor (Hannah Grose), The Fall of the House of Usher (Victorine Lafourcade), or most notably as the mercurial Simone Thearle in the Sky / AMC drama Gangs of London. Now, she joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Miller has been cast in what might be her most substantial role yet, appearing in Marvel's upcoming Vision series for Disney Plus (which currently has the working title of Vision Quest). She will be bookended by Paul Bettany, returning as Vision, and back by much popular demand is James Spader, as Ultron. That's important because she is playing Jocasta Pym, the character who in the comics is the wife... mother... and daughter of the murderous android.

Yes, she is all three. Not split personality. More like a Trinitarian being. It's complicated.

Explaining Jocasta's strange origins in Marvel Comics Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

The Wonder Woman Dilemma: Why DC’s Iconic Hero Has Been Overlooked & How MCU Could Redefine Her Legacy
Image
Wonder Woman’s Comic History Needs Respect as Dceu Falls Short Compared to MCU’s Potential ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Right off the bat, I have to say: that Wonder Woman’s presence on screen was huge, but how she’s been treated in comics and fandom has been all over the place for way too long. Unlike Superman and Batman, her history hasn’t gotten consistent respect. That gap was glaring to me. DC’s two biggest heroes had iconic, reprinted stories from every decade. Wonder Woman, not so much. This isn’t just a rant; it’s my frustration over how DC, creators, and fans have handled one of their Trinity’s brightest stars. She deserves so much more.

When I look at Superman and Batman, I see creators like Siegel and Shuster, Alan Moore, John Byrne, Frank Miller – names attached to their decades-long legacies. They created must-read runs that keep getting celebrated.

The Fall of the House of Usher Star Joins Paul Bettany in Marvel's Vision Series
Image
The Fall of the House of Usherstar T'Nia Miller is officially set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Vision Quest.

Per Deadline, Miller has been added to the cast of the McU's Paul Bettany-led series in the role of a beloved fan-favorite hero from the world of Marvel Comics - Jocasta. Although details regarding the specific role that Miller's Jocasta will play in the series' story have been kept under wraps, it is expected that she will be counted among its main cast members.

Introduced in the pages of 1977's Avengers #162 by Jim Shooter and George Perez, Jocasta is an advanced artificial intelligence created by the villainous Ultron to serve as both his unwitting bride and a twisted counterpart to Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp. Rather than playing along with Ultron's egomaniacal fantasies, the remnants of Janet's consciousness that were imparted into Jocasta's artificial psyche ensured...

Marvel’s Next Vision-Focused Series Reportedly Set to Introduce Jocasta, Ultron’s Bride
Image
Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Vision Quest is adding new faces to its cast, including the introduction of Jocasta, a cybernetic character from the comics, according to rumors. The show continues to build its roster of robotic and AI-driven characters, and fans are excited to see how Jocasta will fit into the story.

Jocasta was created by Jim Shooter and George Perez in 1977, making her first appearance in The Avengers (1963) #162. Jocasta was originally built by Ultron, the villainous AI, to be his bride, similar to how Frankenstein created his bride.

Her programming was modeled after the brain patterns of Janet Pym (also known as the Wasp), whom Ultron tried to drain of life to bring Jocasta to consciousness. However, the Avengers stopped his plan, and Hank Pym (Ant-Man) took Jocasta’s inactive body. Eventually, he brought her to life, and over time, Jocasta became a recurring member of the Avengers,...

A Rejected Batman Animated Series Would Have Introduced His Darkest Sidekick
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

When "Batman: The Animated Series" debuted in 1992, Batman's last leading role in animation had been on the final "Super Friends" season: 1985's "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians." Batman had never exactly faded away, though. There was another Batman cartoon pitch in the late 1980s (one that's totally fallen through the cracks of history since then) in the form of "Batman and the New Robin." This show would've starred Batman alongside the second (and edgiest) Robin, Jason Todd.

"Batman and the New Robin" was going to be produced by Nelvana, and the unearthed series bible was penned by J. Michael Straczynski. Jms, as he's often called, would go on to create the space opera series "Babylon 5," and he's also a prolific comic book writer. In the '80s, though, he was working in children's animation; he'd co-created "She-Ra: Princess of Power...

Daredevil: Born Again Introduces Marvel's White Tiger, But What Are His Powers?
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" season 1

"Daredevil: Born Again" is off to a flying start, with critics praising the show for its dark storytelling, thrilling action, and R-rated violence. In the long-awaited sequel to Netflix's canceled "Daredevil" series, Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin (Vincent D'onofrio), rules over New York City's criminal underworld, forcing Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and a returning Punisher (Jon Bernthal) to continue their vigilante escapades in an effort to stop him. However, they aren't the only heroes who want to clean up the streets, as Hector Ayala, otherwise known as White Tiger (Kamar de los Reyes), is also out for justice.

Ayala technically debuts via surveillance footage in episode 1, but he's formally introduced in the second installment, where the out-of-costume vigilante battles two undercover corrupt cops who attack a man in a subway station. The heated exchange results in one of the cops being accidentally killed,...

Who Is Wonder Woman's Father In DC Comics?
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Diana/Wonder Woman hails from Themyscira, an island paradise of all women, unspoiled by patriarchy. The natives of Themyscira are called the Amazons, and they're all immortal, so population maintenance takes care of itself. But on an island with no men, how did Diana come into being? Who is her father? Does she even have one?

One popular answer is that Wonder Woman is the daughter of Zeus, the ruler of the Greek gods. This binds her even closer to Greek mythology from which the Amazons first sprung. It's also the origin that the "Wonder Woman" films starring Gal Gadot used, so it's the most publicly well-known one now. But it's not the original answer.

The animated "Justice League" series from the 2000s suggested that Diana's father was Hades, brother of Zeus and god of the underworld. Nothing else has suggested this,...

Oliver Queen Is a Lady's Man, So We're Ranking His Top 9 Love Interests
Image
One of the more interesting hero love lives belongs to Green Arrow. Oliver Queen is best known for dating and eventually marrying Black Canary Dinah Lance, but it cannot be overlooked that the billionaire has always had a complicated playboy lifestyle. These two have been together for so long that it may feel like they were always together, but that's far from the case.

There were times when Oliver found himself either pining for someone else when he wasn't with Black Canary. Honestly, there were times when he found himself lusting over other suitors even while he was with Dinah. Sometimes, the two would have a rocky relationship and sometimes, Ollie was the farthest from a faithful man. Green Arrow's faithfulness and his battles with fidelity were once a constant character flaw for him, but it also gave birth to numerous fascinating love interests who weren't Black Canary.

After 90 Years, DC Is Ready to Let One Old-School Hero Step Into the Spotlight But Will It Last?
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Justice League Unlimited #2!

After 90 years, DC is finally allowing its oldest hero to step into the spotlight–but how long will it last? DC’s new Justice League Unlimited has taken an “all-hands-on-deck” approach to the team, with nearly every hero on Earth a member. This has allowed some lesser-known heroes to rub shoulders with Superman and Batman, and now in issue two, one of DC’s oldest heroes joins the team.

Justice League Unlimited #2 is written by Mark Waid and drawn by Dan Mora. A group of rogue Parademons are attacking, and the League dispatches a squad to help. Among the heroes sent are League stalwarts such as Superman and Wonder Woman, mixed in with new recruits Black Lightning, Star Sapphire…and Doctor Occult. The squad splits up to cover more ground, and Occult pairs up with the Martian Manhunter. Occult reveals he knew about...

Jason Momoa is returning to DC Studios as Lobo

It's been the easiest fancasting in history, and arguably the worst-kept secret in CBMs, but it is official that Jason Momoa is coming back to the DC fold and will appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as the beloved anti-hero Lobo.

Jason Momoa has been officially cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.

This is news that nerd nation has harped on since the hopeful renewal of Krypton: Season 3. Maybe earlier. In 2022, THR broke news that Jason Momoa had already met with James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss "possibilities" about the alien bounty hunter coming to life and roaring along on prized Spacehog.

"Sources say the actor would lead another movie or franchise. The character of Lobo, a foul-mouthed cigar-chomping intergalactic bounty hunter, has been mentioned in connection with Momoa," Borys Kit indicated.

10 Most Important Infinity Stone Moments (That Explain Their Entire History)

Of all the powerful items in the Marvel Universe, the most dangerous has always been the Infinity Stones. These items are often gathered and used by Thanos in one of his many attempts to end all life in the universe. While the stones are well known in the Marvel Universe, their actual history isn't as well known among comic readers.

The stones have been around for a long time and have gone through a lot of changes. Originally called the Infinity Gems or the Soul Gems, they were eventually changed into the Infinity Stones, and the way they worked was changed as well. Marvel also expanded their lore, adding more stones than the original six. This has led to their history being just a bit confusing, but these are the biggest events that defined the history and legacy of the Infinity Stones.

10 Comic Books That Changed the Industry Forever

Since the 1930s, the American comic book industry, led by Marvel and DC, has ballooned into a powerhouse of fiction, with the various franchises created, such as Batman and Superman, having become multi-billion dollar properties. From the outset, the industry has been shaped, revolutionized and improved by a series of comics, creative teams and iconic runs. This can happen for a variety of reasons, from sales dominance to influence on a new generation of storytellers.

The comic book industry has undergone a variety of distinct phases and ages, beginning with the Golden Age as superheroes surpassed pulp magazines, leading to the current Modern Age. Sometimes, a comic can have a profound effect without maintaining particular popularity, while others have retained a seminal status with new generations. James Gunn's DC Studios Is Bringing Two Brutal Comic Book Villains Together For A Movie
Image
James Gunn's new cinematic DC Universe doesn't even officially kick off until this December with "Creature Commandos." Yet, a new film has already been added to the slate. The Hollywood Reporter claims that DC Studios is moving forward with a film starring A-List DC villains Bane and Deathstroke/Slade Wilson. The script is being penned by Matthew Orton, one of the credited writers on "Captain America: Brave New World."

Many of DC Comics' most popular characters are Batman villains, so they've been elevated from heels to stars: think of Joker, Penguin, and Harley Quinn, all of whom have all received their own character-focused shows and/or movies. This untitled Bane & Deathstroke project is the latest in this line.

Bane, real name unknown (and created by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan), is one of Batman's deadliest villains. Raised in a South American prison, he volunteered for a chemical testing regimen...

Bane and Deathstroke Movie in the Works at DC Studios From Writer Matthew Orton
Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
“Captain America: Brave New World” writer Matthew Orton has been tapped to write a Bane and Deathstroke movie for DC Studios, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

No director is currently attached to the forthcoming film.

Deathstroke

Deathstroke was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. He is a mercenary and assassin who first appeared in the “New Teen Titans” #2 back in 1980. Wizard magazine rated him the 24th greatest villain of all time.

In 2009, Deathstroke was ranked as IGN’s 32nd greatest comic book villain of all time. Deathstroke, also known as Deathstroke the Terminator or simply Slade, is known to be the greatest assassin in all of DC Comics.

Deathstroke was meant to be a one-off villain for the Teen Titans, his story being that he took over a contract to kill the team after his son succumbed to his own superhuman enhancements. Instead, he was...

Batman Villains Bane, Deathstroke Getting Movie Treatment at DC Studios (Exclusive)
Image
With a big-budget Joker movie just weeks away and a Penguin HBO series freshly unveiled, a few other DC villains are being targeted for the spotlight.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Bane, the super-steroid injecting antagonist who was previously seen in the 2012 Christopher Nolan movie The Dark Knight Rises, and Deathstroke, another popular archnemesis in the comic book company’s fold, are being lassoed together for a movie. The James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios is developing a script from Matthew Orton, a scribe on the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World movie.

There is no director on the project.

Who Is Nicholas Scratch In Agatha All Along? His Complicated Marvel Comics History, Explained

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the first two episodes of "Agatha All Along."

It's well and truly the season of the witch for Marvel fans. "Agatha All Along" is finally here, and with it comes all the bewitchin' blasts of magic, spooky sorceresses, and, oh yeah, a steady dose of mystery-box characters in a trend first popularized in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by "WandaVision." We have Aubrey Plaza's mischievous Rio Vidal running around to uncertain ends (with actor Aubrey Plaza teasing some sort of "reveal" to come) and Joe Locke's mysteriously unnamed "Teen" character, the latter of whom all but directly antagonizes viewers with his seemingly spellbound inability to state his name or any other details about himself. But there are also hints of a third mystery figure crammed into the two-episode premiere, one with established roots in the comic books that will almost assuredly play a...

Who Is Nicholas Scratch? Agatha Harkness's Son & Marvel Comics History Explained
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Agatha All Along episodes 1 & 2

The premiere episodes of Agatha All Along reference Nicholas Scratch in the MCU. A lesser-known villain in the original comics, Nicholas Scratch was the son of Agatha Harkness. However, they've long had a challenging relationship, and Scratch himself has had quite a dark career on the page, becoming a powerful magic-user just like his mother.

As seen in Agatha All Along's first two episodes, Kathryn Hahn's titular witch begins her journey in the aftermath of WandaVision. Intending to travel down the Witches' Road, Agatha hopes to reclaim the power she once had before Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch took it and trapped her in a spell (seen in Wandavision's finale). However, the new MCU show's reference to Agatha's son is notable considering their history in the comics. Here's everything you need to know about Nicholas Scratch, his comics history and powers,...

DC Comics has been an industry leader in comic books since the 1930s, with key events like the creation of Superman serving as turning points in the superhero genre's history. In order to keep its continuity fresh for new generations of readers, the company has routinely pursued a series of reboots and relaunches, each of which have aimed to simplify things.

For better or worse, each of these has been a success in their own right, typically but not always revitalizing sales figures, as readers flock to stores to see whether the new direction is for them.

DC's reboots can be a tad confusing, especially for new readers who want to understand the publisher's history. It is worth a primer on these critical events for readers, so new fans can recognize the best jumping on points, and get a better sense of what each era of DC has to offer.

10 Best DC Comics That Prove The '90s Weren't As Bad As People Claim
Image
The '90s brought changes, defeats, and comebacks for DC heroes - like Batman's fall and rise in "Knightfall" and "Knightsend." The Jsa makes a spectacular return in 1999, a team mix of old and new heroes fighting dark forces, setting up an intrigue-filled series. From "Batman/Dracula: Red Rain" to "Kingdom Come," the '90s showcased iconic DC tales, balancing hero battles with deep thematic explorations.

The 1990s are known for many things when it comes to comics, from edgy stories to shocking events, but DC Comics managed to maintain great consistency throughout the years. These years do contain some of the more absurd series and concepts, but also delivered character-defining moments and epic events. Although the decade hasn't been remembered well by many readers, others point to it for housing some of the best.

Although DC had a number of great parallel imprints housing fantastic stories, such as Sandman and Preacher,...

Crisis on Infinite Earths Did This Flash Villain Dirty, and I Kind of Hate It
Image
Killer Frost's role in Crisis on Infinite Earths as comedic relief detracts from the potential of her character arc. The decision to manipulate Killer Frost's emotions for comedic effect reflects outdated tropes in female character portrayal. While Crisis on Infinite Earths remains a thrilling narrative, the handling of Killer Frost serves as a valuable lesson for future character development.

One Flash villain was done pretty dirty in the Crisis on Infinite Earths miniseries, and I kinda hate it. While as a contemporary reader, I can safely say that much of the classic story holds up, the use of Killer Frost in the iconic series sticks out as the story's weakest element by far.

Crisis on Infinite Earths #1 by Marv Wolfman, George Perez and Dic Giordano, Killer Frost is introduced as one of the metahumans handpicked by the Monitor to enact his plan to protect Earths 1 and 2 from an impending antimatter force destroying the multiverse.

Marvel fans are still trying to wrap their heads around last Saturday’s Marvel Panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will be taking up the mask of Victor von Doom. The reactions have vacillated between enthusiasm, disappointment and confusion over seeing Downey return, and I have my share of opinions about it. But whatever we may feel about the decision, Avengers: Doomsday is happening with Robert Downey Jr. We all have our theories about the why of it, but let’s look to the “how?” So, with the comic books as our map, how will Downey’s version of Doctor Doom work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Most Marvel Comics fans would agree that Dr. Doom reigns supreme when it comes to villains. Yes, Thanos got a massive boost in comic popularity thanks to the MCU’s Infinity Saga but before that,...

‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Comics And Movies Differences And Similarities
Image
The main purpose behind the creation of the monumental crossover event of DC comics, Crisis on Infinite Earths, was to streamline DC’s ever-expanding roster of characters from the past fifty years and create a sense of cohesiveness in the process. Helmed by two of the greatest creative minds in comics literature, Marv Wolfman and George Perez, Crisis on Infinite Earths went on to become a pioneering comic epic and championed everything the iconic characters of the franchise stood for. The animated movie trilogy, which concluded with the recently released third part, might have different motivations, character arcs, and altered narrative structure, but in the end, it honors the spirit of its source material by adhering to the final resolution of the series. Like its comics counterpart, the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy is a story about bringing an end to beloved sagas but also about new beginnings, and...

‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Part 3 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Diana Alive?

The third time is indeed the charm, as after the first two parts of the lackluster animated movie adaptation of Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s seminal work Crisis on Infinite Earths, the makers have finally got the recipe right with the final part. Tomorrowverse might not have found a strong reception among seasoned DC fans, but it surely will be remembered for its concluding chapter, as despite taking creative liberties, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three stays true to the core of its source material by reverberating the universal, or, shall we say, multiversal, message of hope! In the Flashpoint comics, there was a really well-placed memorable quote about acceptance, which once again gets reiterated in the climactic moments of the final entry of Tomorrowverse. Worlds lived. Worlds died. And the multiverse was truly never the same.

Alternatively, superhero TV shows did quite well in 2023 with the release of fan-favorite My Adventures With Superman, Invincible Season 2 and Gen V. Despite superhero fatigue being a real problem, numerous big projects are being released later this year that could grab fan attention. The best part is that they span various genres and tones, ensuring something for everyone.

The Teen Titans were first introduced in the mid-1960s and featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. Other teens such as Speedy, the sidekick to Green Arrow, joined the adventures later.
