Everyone knew “Rogue One” was the finish line for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in “Andor,” but the question was how close Season 2 of the Disney+ show would put him to the beginning of his end. Now we know.

The final arc of Season 2 had the rebels finally learn the reason for Ghorman mining over the last few years. Luthen learns of the existence of the Death Star and the final plans to mine the resources to complete Palpatine’s planet killer and after sacrificing himself to make sure those details get to the Yavin IV rebel base Cassian is stirred into action.

The Andor Season 2 finale featured an exciting Star Wars: Rogue One connection relating to Daniel Mays' Tivik. After two seasons of sewing the seeds of the Rebellion, showrunner Tony Gilroy finally lit the flame that would become the Rebel attack on the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Daniel Mays' Tivik, a character seen in the first few minutes of Rogue One, got a unique cameo at the end of Andor Season 2, sending Diego Luna's titular spy from the hit series onto the path toward his siege to steal the Death Star plans. Tivik's name popped up in the Disney+ series in Season 2, Episode 12, as Alistair Petrie's General Draven informed Andor that he had an incoming message from one of his operatives in the field.

The third arc of Andor season 2 is some of the best Star Wars TV ever made. The sense of impending doom leading up to the Ghorman massacre, intertwined with the eerie background score and Les Misérables-esque chorus in Episode 8, is perhaps showrunner Tony Gilroy’s most ambitious masterpiece.

The BBC One show, which aired on AMC in the United States, premiered in 2016 and follows Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), a British ex-soldier who manages a hotel in Cairo and is approached for an undercover mission to bring down arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). In April 2024, the surprise announcement was made that The Night Manager season 2 and season 3 had both been renewed simultaneously as a BBC and Amazon co-production, with Hiddleston set to reprise his role.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, The BBC has confirmed that The Night Manager season 2 is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025. Domestic thrillers can be deliciously messy, but Magpie, starring the alluring Daisy Ridley in an ambitious and delectable role, takes things to the next level. The psychological thriller is engrossing, its slow-burn buildup feeding the fire that burns brightly in an immensely satisfying final act that is equal parts chilling and petty. Magpie turns certain tropes into narrative weapons, and it works at every turn, culminating in a finale that will leave you wanting more even as it gives us a tension-fueled conclusion.

The fact that first-time director Sam Yates manages to pull off such a stunning and effective film is impressive.

Before returning to the front row of the mainstream with more Star Wars projects, Daisy Ridley has been on a tear lately with smaller, more interesting films, such as the recent Young Woman and the Sea and her wildly different drama, Sometimes I Think About Dying, before that. Those two showcased her ability to pull off a flawless American accent as is the case with many acclaimed English performers but now she's back to her native voice with Magpie, a gripping neo-noir set in the U.K. that sees her taking names as an embattled wife and mom of two trying to navigate a fractured marriage thanks to a somewhat bonehead husband.

The film is directed by Sam Yates and written by Tom Bateman, Ridley's spouse, and she developed the story of Magpie. It's co-produced by Bateman and Ridley, so you know this is a project she's passionate about.

The rest of the cast of Death by Lightning has been announced. The upcoming series is headed to Netflix and dramatizes the presidency of President James Garfield and his relationship with the man who killed him, Charles J. Guiteau.

Joining Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, Nick Offerman and Betty Gilpin in the series about U.S. President James Garfield is Vondie Curtis Hall, Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley and Željko Ivanek. The latest additions to the series that has completed production in Budapest, Hungary also include Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Shaun Parkes and Alistair Petrie.

The historical series from director Matt Ross will see Fisher play Joe Brown, Shabaka Henley as Senator Blanche Bruce (replacing Stephen Mckinley Henderson due to scheduling conflict), Walking Dead: Dead City actor Ivanek playing Dr. Doctor Bliss, and Soller as Robert Todd Lincoln. Production company Hangtime International Pictures has joined the team for the long-awaited second season of The Night Manager, as the show begins principal photography in London this month.

Following Hangtime’s launch at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the company’s Frank Murray and Frida Torresblanco will serve as co-executive producers on the show.

Murray was brought aboard the series by The Ink Factory co-founder and co-ceo Simon Cornwell and executive producer Stephen Garrett. “I’m thrilled to continue my working relationship with Simon and The Ink Factory team via Hangtime,” Murray said. “I am such a huge fan of the series, it is truly an honor and a privilege.”

“Devi Chowdhurani,” helmed by Subhrajit Mitra, has become the first Bengali-language film to secure official Indo-u.K. co-production status. The period drama, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srabanti Chatterjee alongside Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakraborty, Darshana Banik, Bibriti Chatterjee and Kinjal Nanda, is produced by Adited Motion Pictures (U.S./India) and Lok Arts Collective (India/U.K.), with the U.K.’s Hc Films and Moringa Studios serving as co-producers.

The project, now in early post-production, adapts Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay‘s 1884 novel about one of India’s first female freedom fighters. Composer Pandit Bickram Ghosh is on board for the score.

India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Nfdc, Ffo and Invest India, along with the U.K.’s BFI and Dcms, greenlit the co-production status.

BBC and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) is officially coming back for The Night Manager Season 2, after eight years since the spy thriller series had wrapped up its 6-episode first season.
