Every James Gunn Movie Ranked (Including Superman)
Image
James Gunn has had quite the journey when it comes to his Hollywood career. From his early days as a writer working with Troma Entertainment to his mainstream screenwriting breakthrough with his two live-action "Scooby-Doo" films and "Dawn of the Dead," Gunn has showcased a love for colorful characters amidst the backdrop of niche genres. However, he would make his directorial debut with his horror comedy, "Slither" in 2006, followed by his sophomore outing, "Super" in 2010.

However, most audiences were introduced to James Gunn's sensibilities with "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014. Although Marvel Studios is often criticized for its movies following a distinct formula, Gunn stood out as one of the few filmmakers whose signature style remained prominent amidst the hit-making factory that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was at its prime. The fact that he turned D-list Marvel characters like the Guardians into A-listers within the general public cannot be stressed enough.

The Odyssey Set Video Reveals Christopher Nolan's Fiery Vision For A Key Odysseus Event
Image
New footage reveals a key scene from Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey a year before its release. Inspired by Homer's legendary epic, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as the King of Ithaca, alongside Tom Holland (Telemachus), and Charlize Theron (Circe). They join a group of actors with unspecified roles, including Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, and Lupita Nyong'o.

The movie will feature Odysseus' long journey home in the aftermath of the legendary Trojan War. After enraging Poseidon and other Greek gods, Odysseus is forced to roam the oceans on a decade-long mission to return to Ithaca. It is expected to be released on July 17, 2026 and reportedly has a tremendous $250 million budget.

As Christopher Nolan is renowned for relying on practical effects and on-set filming, The Odyssey is currently being filmed around the world. One TikTok user, Luca Pizzoleo, captured one important scene, featuring Odysseus' ship. The scene features flashing lights,...

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Filming Controversy Explained
Image
Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey" is currently shooting on location all around the world. Matt Damon is playing Odysseus, with Tom Holland portraying Odysseus' son, Telemachus. In addition, Charlize Theron is reported to be playing Circe, while the film boasts a giant cast of huge celebrities, including Zendaya, Anne Hatheway, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, and many others besides. Filming has taken place in Aït Benhaddou, Morocco, and various locations around Greece. Some scenes were filmed on Sicily, and others were filmed in the woods of Scotland or at a studio in Los Angeles. It appears that Nolan wanted to re-visit the real locations of the Mediterranean where "The Odyssey" takes place. Well, Scotland and L.A. notwithstanding.

According to a new report from Deadline, however, Nolan has filmed "The Odyssey" in a location that is politically problematic.

James Gunn Must Bring Back ‘The Office’ Star Into His Dcu Who Started His Superhero Misfit Trend
Image
James Gunn‘s Super, starring Rainn Wilson, marked the former’s Cbm debut as a director and laid the groundwork for the misfit superhero trend that has remained prevalent in his works since then. With Gunn now in charge of an entire cinematic universe, Wilson deserves another shot at the superhero gig, especially with Gunn being open to more tonally distinct projects.

Even though Super remains one of Gunn’s more polarizing entries to date, given Wilson’s blend of comedy and emotional depth, it’s about time his chops are put to use in the live-action arena of the DC universe.

Rainn Wilson Should Return to His Super Roots in James Gunn’s Dcu

Although Rainn Wilson is primarily notable for his stint as Dwight from The Office, fans tend to overlook his chops in the realm of Cbm. Super, in addition to being one of the more innovative superhero movies of the 2010s,...

James Gunn's First Superhero Movie Was A Forgotten Black Comedy With Rainn Wilson
Image
If you knew James Gunn's early work before he conquered the world with a bunch of lovable misfits through Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies, there might be a part of you (just a tiny bit) that feels bittersweet about him becoming the big-shot superhero filmmaker and CEO of DC Studios he is today. Don't get me wrong: God bless Gunn for giving us the cinematic versions of Peter (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), and all the quirky creatures in that spectacular universe. He even turned the previously botched "Suicide Squad" into a decent and enjoyable blockbuster that it deserved to be.

But before all that, there was a rare potential in Gunn to become one of the most intriguing and singular directors of his generation. I'm saying that because he started as a trash horror enthusiast at Troma Entertainment,...

As anticipation swells around The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s star-studded adaptation of Homer’sOdyssey — currently filming and already breaking records with its sold-out IMAX premiere screenings — another Nolan epic is sailing off into the Netflix sunset. Heightened Scrutiny Review: The Media on Trial
Image
Documentaries about legal battles often fall into a familiar rhythm: a righteous fight, a clear villain, and a climactic courtroom showdown. Sam Feder’s Heightened Scrutiny has all the components of such a story, yet its construction aims for something more profound and unsettling.

The film centers on ACLU attorney Chase Strangio as he prepares to argue United States v. Skrmetti before the Supreme Court, a case concerning a Tennessee law banning gender-affirming care for minors. On the surface, it is a portrait of a landmark civil rights moment.

Yet the film quickly establishes that the real trial is not the one happening inside the court, but the one playing out in the public square. Feder frames the story not as a simple procedural but as an intimate character study set against a backdrop of immense cultural friction.

The narrative anchor is Strangio, the first transgender lawyer to argue before the highest court,...

15 Years Ago, Christopher Nolan Delivered One Of The Biggest Original Box Office Hits Ever
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"I've been fascinated by dreams my whole life, since I was a kid, and I think the relationship between movies and dreams is something that's always interested me, and I liked the idea of trying to portray dreams on film." Those are the words of Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan explaining in 2010 where the idea for "Inception" came from.

Conceptually, it sounds just as likely to be a $15 million A24 movie than what we got, which was a mind-bending, massively expensive, inventive blockbuster that was, in addition to being a massive hit, a wholly original idea. 15 years later, it's hard to imagine almost any original movie getting a $160 million green light from a studio like Warner Bros. Yet, Nolan was at the beginning...

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ IMAX Tickets Sell Out 1 Year Early, Hinting at a Box Office Bigger Than The Avengers
Image
Christopher Nolan might be months away from finishing The Odyssey, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from declaring it an event for the ages — with IMAX 70mm premiere tickets selling out an entire year in advance. Yes, you read that right: The Odyssey, Nolan’s highly anticipated follow-up to Oppenheimer, won’t hit theaters until July 17, 2026, but fans have already cleared out its initial IMAX run across select venues. Theaters in cities like London, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Melbourne, and Prague saw demand spike just hours after tickets quietly went on sale at midnight Thursday. And by afternoon, resale prices had soared past $500 online, which is just silly.

Remarkably, Nolan’s The Odyssey is still filming. But that hasn’t deterred fans from locking in seats to what’s already being called the next IMAX blockbuster. Some buyers on Reddit claimed they snagged tickets for $32 each — but resellers wasted no time,...

‘Heightened Scrutiny’ Trailer: ACLU Civil Rights Lawyer Chase Strangio Makes History at the Supreme Court While Fighting for Trans Rights
Image
Chase Strangio is already part of U.S. history: The ACLU attorney became the first trans person to argue a case before the Supreme Court, and now, he is being immortalized onscreen with documentary “Heightened Scrutiny.”

Strangio was the lawyer to argue the United States v Skrmetti, which was about whether or not the state of Tennessee had the constitutional authority to prevent trans youth from receiving gender-affirming care such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy. The court upheld the Tennessee law by a 6-3 vote, no surprise given its conservative supermajority as appointed during President Trump’s first term.

“Heightened Scrutiny” premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival prior to the court’s decision. Sam Feder directs, with Laverne Cox, S. Mona Sinha, Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch, Lisa Freeman, and Sara Hinkle executive producing. Co-executive producers are Charlotte Cook and Andrew Kim, and Amy Scholder and Paola Mendoza produce.

Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
IMAX tickets for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey are already on sale a year in advance
Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is building quite mythic hype with it being the director’s most expensive film, which includes being shot entirely with IMAX cameras. IMAX boss Rich Gelfond had explained, “A year before Chris started filming The Odyssey, he called me and said he wanted to make a whole film shot with IMAX cameras.” Gelfond added, “That couldn’t be done for a lot of reasons. There were lots of issues.” Then, he said, “‘I’m going to give you a challenge. If you can figure out how to solve these problems, I’m going to make Odyssey 100% film with film with IMAX cameras’, and we’ve solved his problems. So, this will be the first film ever, at least filmed 100% with IMAX cameras.”

The teaser trailer can currently be seen in theaters, but it hasn’t made its way online just yet. Universal and IMAX are...

All James Gunn-Directed Movies (Including Superman), Ranked
Image
James Gunn is one of those filmmakers who can blend humour into everything, including the intense moments. And that’s what I love about him. His film career began as a screenwriter with “Tromeo and Juliet” in 1996, a transgressive romantic black comedy. Later, Gunn went on to pen scripts for “Scooby-Doo” (2002) and its 2004 sequel “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.” He also wrote Zack Snyder’s directorial debut film, “Dawn of the Dead” (2004). Gunn’s directorial journey in Hollywood began with his 2007 Sci-fi horror comedy film “Slither.” Currently serving as the co-ceo of DC along with Peter Saffran, James Gunn became a popular name, especially among the MCU fans, after entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by directing the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy, one of the best MCU films to date.

Few filmmakers in modern cinema can mix humour, heartfelt emotions, and deeply explore characters like James Gunn, and that too in a superhero movie.

The Odyssey Set Photo Reveals New Look At Matt Damon In Full Armor As Greek Hero Odysseus
Image
The Odyssey is currently shooting on the Moray Firth coast in Scotland. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, Matt Damon, who plays Greek hero Odysseus, has been spotted in full costume on set. Tom Holland and Zendaya are also thought to be on hand to film scenes for the movie.

This new look doesn't reveal much, but Damon looks suitably impressive in the armour. However, while excitement for Christopher Nolan's next movie continues to increase a year ahead of its release, there's still no sign of the teaser trailer playing in theaters before Jurassic World Rebirth.

As a reminder, The Odyssey sneak peek opens with a shot of the sea, and a voice that says, "Darkness. Zeus' law smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a King since my master died. He knew it wasn't a winnable war, and then somehow, somehow, he won it."

Jon Berthal's character can then he heard stating,...

How to Buy IMAX Tickets for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ — 365 Days in Advance
Image
It won’t have to be an Odyssean trek to the theaters for Christopher Nolan fans to snag IMAX tickets to his next film, “The Odyssey.” Two years after Nolan’s Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer” left audiences scrambling for IMAX seats in theaters, tickets for “The Odyssey” will go on sale on July 17, 2025, exactly one year before the film is released.

Advance tickets will only be available at movie theaters with 70mm IMAX screens and only for select showtimes. As we all remember, “Oppenheimer” in 70mm IMAX was a rarity in certain areas with fans traveling across state lines to go to a screening. And that dedication panned out: “Oppenheimer” earned $975 million at the global box office in 2023, with 20 percent of the grosses due to the IMAX tickets.

Keep in mind, though, that a trailer for “The Odyssey” hasn’t even been released yet from Universal… despite those online leaks...

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Will Sell Tickets 1 Year Before The Movie's Release
Image
The Odyssey is now slated to open up ticket sales about a year before the film's release.Christopher Nolan's first film post-Oppenheimer will adapt the classic Homer epic poem of the same name, with a superstar cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Elliot Page, and Mia Goth.

The hype is already building up for the film, as The Odyssey released a trailer that ran before many showings of Jurassic World Rebirth. This trailer showed Odysseus lost at sea, and set up part of the main conflict at hand. Even though the adaptation won't be released for another year, there is a lot yet to be revealed.

Another development has been made before The Odyssey's release, however. According to the Harkins Theaters website, the tickets for the Nolan film will be "on sale soon." While an exact date was not listed,...

James Gunn's Superman Couldn't Be More Different Than His First, Forgotten Superhero Movies
Image
James Gunn seemingly used to hate superheroes. One can see this in several of his early movies. The fact that he is now the master of a whole, completely earnest superhero universe -- led by his own aw-shucks "Superman" movie -- feels strange. The man has clearly made a 180-degree turn away from his impish, youthful impulses toward deconstruction and has embraced a po-faced superhero seriousness that the young Gunn may not recognize.

Case in point: In 2000, when writer/director James Gunn was still on the rise, he penned Craig Mazin's low-budget superhero comedy "The Specials," starring Thomas Haden Church, Rob Lowe, Jamie Kennedy, Padget Brewster, and Judy Greer. Gunn and his brother Sean also appeared in the film. It followed the titular superhero team on their day off, when there was no crime to fight and no supervillains to foil. The Specials all had superpowers, but looked largely unremarkable in civilian life,...

Marvel Star Tom Holland Raves The Odyssey Was His Best Film Set Experience Yet
Image
After months of rumors and anticipation, a short teaser for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is finally being shown exclusively in IMAX theaters.

So far, Nolan and Universal seem committed to keeping the footage a theatrical-only experience. As of now, there are no plans to release the teaser online, meaning fans will have to head to the theater to get their first glimpse of what’s next from the acclaimed director.

Still, the footage has leaked, so you can Click Here to check it out.

The teaser finally confirms what many fans had guessed, Tom Holland is playing Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and prince of Ithaca. Nolan is still keeping most other character details tightly under wraps.

In an interview with GQ, Holland praised the project, calling it the best on-set experience of his career. That’s a bold statement, especially from someone who’s starred in three Spider-Man...

Tom Holland Says Working On Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Was “The Job Of A Lifetime”

Tom Holland is teasing his work on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and revealed he had a positive experience.

The Spider-Man star said in a recent interview that working on Nolan’s new film was “exciting” and “different.”

He continued, “Working with Chris, getting to know him and Emma [Thomas] was absolutely fantastic. Superman’s Mikaela Hoover Starred in James Gunn’s R-Rated Superhero Movie 14 Years Ago
Image
Mikaela Hoover might’ve only had a few scenes in James Gunn’s Superman (2025), but fourteen years ago, she starred in James Gunn’s gritty, offbeat, and R-rated cult favorite superhero movie, Super (2010), alongside Rainn Wilson.

Hoover’s role as Cat Grant—sharp-tongued Daily Planet reporter—left a lasting impression. Right now, although many fans are just discovering Hoover through Gunn’s new DC reboot of Superman, this actress’ superhero roots actually go way back. Although it wasn’t a leading part, her role in Super solidified a creative partnership between Hoover and Gunn that later shaped her career. Since then, Hoover has become something of a low-key regular in the Gunn-verse.

Hoover popped up as Nova Prime’s Assistant in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), lent her voice to the tragic raccoon Floor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), and even played Camila in The Suicide Squad (2021). While she...

'The Job of a Lifetime': Tom Holland Hails Christopher Nolan Movie as His 'Best Experience' on a Film Set
Image
Christopher Nolan's first film since the award-winning Oppenheimer will be a take on Homer's famous work, The Odyssey. The film will, of course, feature a star-studded cast.

The Odyssey brings back several frequent collaborators of the Oscar-winning filmmaker, as well as welcoming some new ones to the mix. One of the new ones is McU's Tom Holland, who is rumored to portray Telemachus, the son of the film's main protagonist, Matt Damon's Odysseus. In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Tom Holland had nothing but praise for The Odyssey, as well as the extraordinary experience he's had on the set working with Nolan.

Filming for The Odyssey began in mid-February this year, and it's still ongoing. However, it looks like Holland ended its scenes. The actor highlighted that the project was "the job of a lifetime," and revealed that he had "the best experience" on a film set.

'Still 1 of My Favorite Movies': James Gunn Stands by His Lowest-Rated Film on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
James Gunn is currently riding high with his newest movie, Superman, garnering some high marks from critics heading into its debut weekend. It's a huge jump from the lowest-rated film Gunn has garnered as a director, but that doesn't mean he doesn't stand by that movie as well.

Back in 2010, Gunn's Super was released in theaters. Written and directed by Gunn, the film was polarizing, scoring at 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is the lowest-scored movie that's ever been directed by Gunn. However, the Guardians of the Galaxy helmer considers Super to be one of his own favorite films he's done, as he said in a new conversation with GQ. Gunn also shared that many of his fans agree with this opinion, despite the underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes score.

"Super obviously didn't set the world on fire," Gunn said. "It wasn't a big box office hit, [but] it's still one of my favorite movies,...

Tom Holland says Nolan’s The Odyssey is ‘Unlike anything we’ve ever seen’ while praising the filmmaker’s impeccable style and craft
Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
Few films garner as much hype as the latest Christopher Nolan release, and according to Tom Holland, the filmmaker’s next opus, The Odyssey, is no exception. Speaking to Variety about his Odyssey experience, Holland praised the ensemble cast, elaborate sets, and the director’s impeccable attention to detail.

“It was amazing. The job of a lifetime, without a doubt. The best experience I’ve had on a film set,” Holland said when asked about his experience on The Odyssey set. “Incredible. It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”

Holland, who in the past was known for having loose lips about Marvel projects, loves to talk a big game. Still, who could blame him? The mere thought of Christopher Nolan adapting Homer’s epic poem is almost too awesome to comprehend.

James Gunn Ranks 'Super' Among His Favorite Films Despite Low Rt Score
Image
James Gunn is one of the most prolific filmmakers working today, having ushered in the Warner Bros. feature The Suicide Squad, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and the new Dcu's highly anticipated Superman, which has already garnered high praise ahead of its debut weekend in theaters. With so many notable titles under his belt, fans might be surprised to learn that one of his favorite films he has worked on as a director is in fact his lowest-rated on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 50% from critics and 56% from audiences.

In a recent video interview with GQ, Gunn revisited some of the most iconic films from his career so far, including the dark comedy superhero film Super, starring Rainn Wilson, Elliot Page, and Kevin Bacon. He admitted that he still considers it to be one of his top movies despite it being the worst-scored of his filmography. He also asserted that...

9 Highest Grossing James Gunn Movies, Ranked
Image
James Gunn might just have one of the strangest and most fascinating careers in Hollywood, and we’re absolutely here for it. This is the guy who wrote Scooby-Doo, made a horror flick about alien slugs, turned a bunch of obscure Marvel misfits into A-list icons, and now he’s literally in charge of Superman. If that isn’t a cinematic rollercoaster, what is?

Whether it’s a talking raccoon with daddy issues or a gang of losers saving the galaxy to the sound of ’70s bangers, Gunn has a knack for turning the most unlikely characters into box office royalty.

Before becoming the puppeteer behind the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, he was scripting zombie chaos in Dawn of the Dead, giving us gross-out horror with Slither, and dropping one of the strangest superhero indies ever made with Super. And let’s not forget the Scooby-Doo era — nostalgia-core at its finest.

The Story Behind Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’: Illustrated Artworks Of The Legendary Tales Related To Gods, Monsters & Odysseus’ Epic Return
Image
For millennia, the epic poems of Homer have profoundly shaped Western literature and thought with their timeless tales of heroism, gods and the enduring human spirit. While The Iliad plunges us into the raw intensity of the Trojan War’s final weeks, unleashing the wrath of Achilles and detailing the tragic fall of a mighty city, its equally monumental successor The Odyssey unfolds a distinct, yet equally compelling, narrative. This second great epic shifts its focus from the blood-soaked battlefields to the treacherous seas and distant, mythical lands, chronicling the legendary Greek hero Odysseus’ decade-long quest to reclaim his home and family after the fall of Troy.

Director Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the timeless epic, The Odyssey, is slated for release on July 17, 2026. The film will be presented in Imax with Nolan’s longtime creative partner Emma Thomas producing. The star-studded cast features Matt Damon in the lead role as the king of Ithaca,...

Lena Dunham Rises Again: The ‘Girls’ Creator on Netflix’s ‘Too Much,’ Hollywood’s ‘Merciless’ Body Shaming and Whether She’d Revive the HBO Classic
Image
Lena Dunham is sitting in bed, draped in a pink tulle gown fit for a princess, reading a book about torture.

It’s a prop for our photo shoot, which is taking place in an eccentrically decorated hotel suite in Tribeca, but she’s too curious not to flip through the pages. Intrigued, Dunham’s brown eyes widen: “Oh my God, it’s literally a collection of drawings of torture,” she says as the photo and glam crew explode in laughter. “I thought it was going to be like, ‘I’m tortured by this love affair.’” She puts down the book and, in need of a vibe switch, requests that Rihanna’s “Anti” be played straight through.

“I’ve never been happier!” she declares as “Consideration” rings out. “Now I’m zoned in.”

The same could be said of Dunham’s life at the moment. While preparing for the July...

Image
Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk On Ott ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Christopher Nolan’s epic war film Dunkirk has soared back into the spotlight after eight years since its release. Now, it is dominating the streaming charts across the globe. While Nolan is busy with his upcoming project, The Odyssey, based on Homer’s classic, Dunkirk continues to hold strong and prove its staying power. The film is based on the desperate evacuation of the Allied forces who were pinned down by the German (Nazi) troops in the northern coastal city of France.

What Is Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk About?

The film, set during the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation, is based on three intersecting storylines through land, sea, and air. British soldier Tommy (Fionn Whitehead) flees German forces and joins others waiting for evacuation on the beach. He meets Gibson (Aneurin Barnard) and Alex (Harry Styles), surviving repeated Luftwaffe and U-boat attacks but repeatedly forced back to shore.

Star of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, 35, Officially Exits Production and Is Being Replaced With This HBO Star
Image
One crew member from The Odyssey will not be partaking in the voyage, after all. Cosmo Jarvis, the star of last year's hit FX miniseries Shōgun, has departed the upcoming epic. His role in the film, which has not yet been specified, will be assumed by Logan Marshall-Green. The Odyssey, which is director Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer, will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Deadline reports that Jarvis' departure is due to a scheduling conflict; the British actor is slated to play the title role in Young Stalin, an account of the early days of the future Soviet ruler, and is also starring in Guy Ritchie's Wife & Dog, and the second season of Shōgun. Marshall-Green is a newcomer to Nolan productions, but has starred in a number of notable films, including Prometheus, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Upgrade. He recently starred in the Netflix actioner Carry-On,...

8 Years Later, Christopher Nolan’s $533 Million WWII Film He Called an “Intimate Epic” Is Still a Global Streaming Hit
Image
Christopher Nolan is in the middle of filming his next movie, The Odyssey, which recently unveiled its first poster and teaser, but one of his war movies from a different era has found sustained streaming success. In 2017, Nolan directed Dunkirk, a WWII film starring Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, following groups of Allied soldiers who are surrounded by the German army during a brutal battle. Dunkirk is streaming on Netflix in the United States and Osn globally, where the film is one of the top 10 streaming hits in more than 10 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. Dunkirk grossed $533 million at the box office against a $100 million budget, and it also earned strong scores of 92% from critics and 81% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

During a 2017 interview with the Qatar Tribune, Christopher Nolan spoke about both the scale and the human element of Dunkirk. Nolan revealed he considers Dunkirk an...

The Odyssey Teaser Leaks Online: Here’s What To Expect From Christopher Nolan’s Action Fantasy Spectacle

Christopher The Odyssey Teaser Leaks(Photo Credit –Facebook)

You’re aware of how Christopher Nolan prioritizes the theatrical experience. So, it wasn’t a shocker when Universal debuted the first teaser for The Odyssey exclusively in theaters alongside Jurassic World: Rebirth. However, a 70-second sneak peek quietly dropped online on Tuesday, appearing on TikTok and X. Pirated clips were removed almost immediately, but the damage was already done. Viewers had already taken a peek into the myth-heavy chaos of Nolan’s artistry.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Teaser Previews Star-Studded Mythical Epic

The Odyssey teaser marks Christopher Nolan’s latest attempt to keep things cinematic-first, following his very public detachment from Warner Bros. over their 2021 decision to send movies straight to HBO Max. That move pushed Nolan to Universal for Oppenheimer, and he’s stuck with them for The Odyssey, a large-scale reimagining of Homer’s ancient epic.

Everything We Know About Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Image
As casting announcements continue to roll in, speculation and excitement has only grown surrounding Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to his critical and box office hit “Oppenheimer,” which won him the Academy Award for best director.

“The Odyssey” is a classic piece of literature by Homer that is divided between 24 different books, preceded by “The Iliad.” It tells the 10-year journey story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates. Telemachus (Odysseus’ son), Penelope (Odysseus’ wife), Athena, Circe, Poseidon and Zeus are all major characters.

Historians and scholars date “The Odyssey” to sometime between 750-650 BC. The first printed Greek version became available in 1488. In the centuries since, it has remained one of the most studied, adapted and parodied stories ever with adaptations including the 1911 silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro, 1954’s...

Christopher Nolan Fans All Have One Complaint About 'The Odyssey' Teaser
Image
Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors working today who can sell a project on his name alone. The man could create a four-hour black-and-white film in a 1:2 aspect ratio about paint drying, all set to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and his fans would still find a way to hail it as a masterpiece (we probably would too). Nolan's next movie, The Odyssey, has the potential to be his biggest and his best yet. Based on the epic poem by Homer, Nolan will transport audiences back to Ancient Greece, bringing one of the most famous stories ever told to life on the big screen. The first teaser for The Odyssey is currently showing in theaters. As expected, it leaked online within the first five minutes of release. But the teaser isn't being welcomed as warmly as many expected, and it's even turning some die-hard Nolan fans against the movie.

When Will The Odyssey Trailer Be Officially Released? Here's What We Know (As 4K Version Leaks Online)
Image
Christopher Nolan is one of the biggest proponents of the big screen experience, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that the first teaser trailer for The Odyssey is playing exclusively in theaters.

It's an effective, intriguing teaser, but nothing about it really demands that it be watched on the biggest screen possible. Universal Pictures must have been aware that people would record the trailer on their phones, but what the studio likely didn't anticipate was there being 4K copies readily available on social media.

Someone managed to encode the trailer's source file, leading to a 4K quality IMAX format version being published on X and Reddit late last night/early this morning. Universal is acting fast to take them down as quickly as they appear, hitting accounts with copyright strikes and takedown requests.

Still, it's not that hard to find.

So, when will the trailer be officially released? For now,...

First Look at Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Revealed
Image
Christopher Nolan is back with a huge new movie called The Odyssey, an epic action fantasy based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer. The film tells the story of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, the king of Ithaca who faces many dangers on his long journey home after the Trojan War.

Along the way, he encounters famous mythical creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, played by Charlize Theron. The movie also stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, and Jon Bernthal among a large, star-studded cast.

This is Nolan’s first project after his 2023 hit Oppenheimer. The project was announced in December 2024 and has a massive budget of around $250 million, making it the most expensive movie Nolan has ever made.

It is also notable for being the first big movie filmed entirely with IMAX film cameras. Production started in February 2025 and took place across many countries,...

Christopher Nolan's Must-Watch Greek Epic Unveils Magnificent First Look Poster
Image
The first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey began playing in theaters ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth, and now the film just got an even more exciting look. Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the first poster for The Odyssey, which is also beginning to appear in select theaters. The film is still in production and is not slated for release until July 17, 2026 — more than a year from now, which makes this first look all the more shocking. The poster even features the first official tagline for the film, “Defy The Gods,” which will likely be followed by another tagline when the second poster is released. Matt Damon is set to star in the lead role of Odysseus, with Tom Holland rumored to be playing Telemachus opposite him.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Teaser Leaks Online Amid Theatrical Rollout: Here’s What Happens in the First Footage
Image
The first teaser for Christopher Nolan and Universal’s “The Odyssey,” which is beginning to play exclusively in theaters, has leaked online on X and TikTok.

Like many of Nolan’s previous blockbusters, most recently for best picture winner “Oppenheimer” in 2023, the famed director has released a short teaser more than a year in advance. “The Odyssey” teaser is timed to be included alongside the release of Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth.”

The footage’s exclusivity to theaters keeps with Nolan’s longstanding prioritization of theatrical exhibition. The director jumped from his decades-long partner Warner Bros. to Universal for “Oppenheimer” after he voiced dismay that his old studio woud be releasing its entire 2021 theatrical slate simultaneously to HBO Max.

But even before “The Odyssey” teaser could begin to play in the United States leaks began popping up Tuesday afternoon, with many of them getting swiftly taken down under copyright flags.

The Odyssey Trailer Leaks Online; First Look At Christopher Nolan's Epic Includes Tom Holland And Jon Bernthal
Image
The first trailer for The Odyssey will play in theaters this week in front of Jurassic World Rebirth. Universal Pictures reportedly has no intention of releasing it online and has instead opted to have it play as filmmaker Christopher Nolan intended: on the big screen.

It's a nice idea, but in this day and age, it means most people will see The Odyssey for the first time as a recording from someone's phone. Unsurprisingly, that's exactly what's happened, as you'll discover by clicking here (it can also be found here).

The trailer opens with a shot of the sea, and a voice that says, "Darkness. Zeus' law smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a King since my master died. He knew it wasn't a winnable war, and then somehow, somehow, he won it."

Jon Berthal's character can then he heard stating, "I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy." Tom Holland,...

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Teaser Trailer Is Playing Only in Theaters
Image
Universal just released the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s next summer epic, “The Odyssey.” But in true Nolan fashion, you’re not going to be able to see it online right away, as it is screening exclusively in movie theaters.

The first people to see the teaser in all its oceanic glory will be those who buy a ticket to see “Jurassic World Rebirth,” which arrives in theaters Wednesday. It is unclear at this point when the teaser will be released online or if it will screen in front of other upcoming blockbusters like Warner Bros.’ “Superman.” Universal did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

But it’s not surprising that even a teaser for Nolan’s next film would get a theatrical exclusive window given that the Oscar-winning director has put his money where his mouth is when it comes to supporting movie theaters.
