San Francisco, June 28 (Ians) Google is reportedly laying off employees from its navigation and mapping company Waze, as it aims to merge mapping products.
The tech giant is moving Waze over to Google’s ads system which means there will be job cuts at Waze in “sales, marketing, operations and analytics,” reports CNBC.
The report cited an email by Chris Phillips, VP and Gm of Google’s Geo unit, which read that the company hopes to “create a more scalable and optimised Waze Ads product”.
Waze has more than 500 employees and it was not clear how many of those will lose jobs.
“We have decided to transition Waze’s ads monetisation to be managed by the Global Business Organisation (Gbo), similar to Google Maps,” Phillips wrote in the email.
“Unfortunately, this will result in a reduction of Waze Ads monetisation-focused roles in sales, marketing, operations and analytics,” the email noted.

The Canadian actor headed down to Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe’s offices on Thursday, sharing a photo with him and Remington Group president, Chris Bratty.

Backstreets, the respected Bruce Springsteen fanzine, is calling it quits to protest the “dynamic pricing” that has led to sky-high concert ticket costs.
“After 43 years of publishing in one form or another, by fans for fans of Bruce Springsteen, it’s with mixed emotions that we announce Backstreets has reached the end of the road,” publisher and editor-in-chief Christopher Phillips wrote in an editorial.
Backstreets began publishing in 1980, and became a go-to resource for insider information on The Boss and his plans. It had an international circulation and was fan-run.
“If you read the editorial Backstreets published last summer in the aftermath of the U.S. ticket sales, you have a sense of where our heads and hearts have been: dispirited, downhearted, and, yes, disillusioned. It’s not a feeling we’re at all accustomed to while anticipating a new Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tour,” Phillips wrote.

Applications are open for Australians in Film’s (AiF) Heath Ledger Scholarship, which is returning after a two-year hiatus.
Awarded to emerging Australian actors with international aspirations, the scholarship has so far been awarded ten times, with previous recipients including Bella Heathcote (Pieces of Her), Cody Fern (American Crime Story), Ashleigh Cummings (Citadel), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence) and Charmaine Bingwa (The Good Fight).

Asbury Park Music + Film Festival, director Thom Zimny and the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University announced Tuesday that The Bruce Springsteen Archives will screen at Asbury Park’s Paramount Theatre on Saturday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. Archives features various clips of Springsteen’s performances over the year.

The story of how Jon Landau saw Bruce Springsteen play at Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Harvard Square Theater on May 9th, 1974 and then declared him “rock and roll future” in Boston’s Real Paper, creating a tidal wave of hype that crested with the release of Born to Run the following year, has been told many times. Netflix has ordered eight episodes of The Healing Powers of Dude, a family live action single camera comedy series from Erica Spates and Sam Littenberg-Weisberg. Richie Keen directs four episodes and executive produces.
Co-created by Spates and Littenberg-Weisberg based on personal experience with social anxiety disorder, The Healing Powers of Dude centers on Noah, an 11-year-old boy with social anxiety disorder. When Noah has to start middle school, he turns to a mutt named Dude, a sarcastic emotional support dog who might need Noah as much as Noah needs him.
The series stars Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do!), Larisa Oleynik, Laurel Emory (Heartstrings), Mauricio Lara, Sophie Jaewon Kim, Dude the Dog, and newcomer Jace Chapman.
