Hollywood fan-favorite Jack Black gives fans a major "spoiler alert" regarding the future of the Jumanjifranchise.
During an April 1 appearance on Today, Black was asked if he could confirm development on any sequel projects to his previous films. Black noted that it is unlikely School of Rock will be getting a follow-up film any time soon, though he promised that a fourth Jumanji film is "in the works." Black added that there was a "high" probability of a fourth Jumanji entering production, stating simply, "Spoiler alert, I'm in it!"
The Jumanji franchise kicked off with the 1995 film based on Chris Van Allsburg's 1981 children's picture book of the same name. Walt Disney Animation created numerous animated movies, many of which have remained relevant despite being decades old. The studio has taken many risks, pushing the boundaries in storytelling and animated visuals.
Some of their films have been very dark, with the grimmest scenes depicting a villain's death. Many of these deaths have left audiences wondering if the films are appropriate for children. Some deaths have been so dark that audiences and even the characters within the film can't help but feel sorry for the villains.
Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on December 20, 2024: Disney may make family movies, but there's nothing family-friendly about its villains' deaths. From horrific demises to fates worse than death, these are some of the darkest endings for Disney villains. Walt Disney Pictures has been responsible for some of the greatest children’s movies ever, although the studio's committed fan base is often divided. While some Disney films are undisputed classics beloved by all, there are some releases that audiences have taken issue with, whether due to problematic depictions, outdated stereotypes, or questionable creative decisions. When a studio has so many treasured properties in its catalog, it’s no surprise that fans disagree on many issues.
Even the best Disney movies have divided fans as they debate the merits, themes, and meaning behind cherished animated and live-action releases. Disney’s recent output has led some viewers to wish for a return to the glory days of the Disney Renaissance, while others are more than pleased with the modern CGI-centric approach of the studio's output in the 21st century. It's no secret that a large portion of Disney's revenue in recent years has come from rebooting earlier films. From Cinderella to The Lion King and beyond, Disney has been producing live-action remakes of tons of their classic animated films, with even more of these projects currently in the works. However, one must begin to wonder whether straightforward, live-action recreations are really the most effective way for Disney to bring these classic stories back to life. With many of the live-action remakes garnering less-than-stellar reviews, one must start to question whether Disney should consider exploring an alternate path.
Fortunately, one Disney property could open many doors for the company. Back in 2004, Disney made a deal in which they received ownership of the beloved group of colorful performers known as the Muppets. With audiences growing tired of live-action adaptations that don't do much to enhance the original stories, Disney ought to...

In 1995’s Jumanji, Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce discover a peculiar board game in the attic of their new home. Words appear as they roll the dice: “This will not be an easy mission. Monkeys slow the expedition.”
That scene came to life over in South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon, when the Yemassee Police Department reported that 43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center.
Authorities said the monkeys are very young females weighing “approximately six-seven pounds” who have not been tested on due to their age and size.

Fans of Robin Williams will be able to sit down and enjoy two of his much-loved movies from the 1990s thanks to Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji joining the Tubi library. The comedy movies are among the most beloved of Williams career, and now another generation can discover his genius for themselves without having to spend a dime.
In 1993, Williams gave one of his greatest comedy performances in Mrs. Doubtfire, playing divorcee Daniel, who disguises himself as a nanny in order to be able to see his children. While there are those who will say the movie is dated, it is hard to see the film as anything other than a hilarious, and often poignant, story about the lengths a parent will go to in order to be close to their children. In contrast, 1995s Jumanji is a rollicking adventure comedy in which Williams plays Alan Parrish, a man who has...

With nearly five years gone since the previous movie hit theaters, Jumanji 4 has finally set a 2026 release date. Development on a fourth installment in the action-adventure franchise has remained in an unclear state since the successful release of 2019's The Next Level, with the Covid-19 pandemic and increasingly busy schedules of its main stars proving troublesome. Even still, both the franchise's main stars and behind-the-camera talent have remained enthusiastic for Jumanji 4's chances, finding them to be fun movies to work on.
The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Sony has officially set Jumanji 4 for a December 11, 2026 release date. This date continues the adventure franchise's unique tradition of releasing during the holiday season, with all three prior movies having also hit theaters in December. This ShotBlows Me Away: Iconic Jumanji Lion Scene Gets Rave Response From VFX Artists 29 Years Later
VFX artists analyze Jumanjis lion scene, complimenting the 1995 effects. The Joe Johnston film starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt, Bradley Pierce, and Jonathan Hyde is about a magical board game that comes to life, unleashing a world of adventure on siblings Peter (Pierce) and Judy Shepherd (Dunst). Though the original film debuted in 1995, the animation is considered highly impressive.
In a recent Corridor Crew video, VFX artists Sam Gorski, Wren Weichman, and Jordan Allen take a look at Jumanjis iconic lion scene. Weichman points out that the movie came out at an interesting time because 1995 was a little too late to do everything with animatronics and puppets, but a little too early to do everything with CG. This is like the earliest of days when it comes to CGI animation, he notes. The VFX artist goes on to say he thinks the animation in Jumanji is a product of its time.

VFX artists explain why the original stampede scene from Jumanji still holds up 29 years after its release. The 1995 movie, directed by Joe Johnston, revolves around the eponymous board game and chaos that ensues when Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter Shepherd (Bradley Pierce) discover its magic. Along with Dunst and Pierce, the film stars Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, a man stuck in Jumanji for over two decades. Various Jumanji movies have since been made, but the original is often considered a classic, and the performances and visual effects continue to be praised.

Chris Van Allsberg's picture book "Jumanji" was first published in 1981, and it quickly became a staple in elementary schools and libraries, read widely and joyously by several generations of kids. The book won a Caldecott medal, and Allsberg would go on to write other children's classics like "The Z Was Zapped," "The Polar Express," and the "Jumanji" sequel "Zathura."
The premise is fun: Two kids, bored at home, find a jungle-adventure-themed board game called Jumanji in their attic. When they play it, however, they find that the dictated events of the game manifest in their house. When the game cards tell them they've run into chimpanzees, chimpanzees appear in their kitchen, and more and more animals begin wreaking havoc as the game progresses. It's only when the game ends that the mayhem ceases.

Jumanji is a film that had its fair share of jumpscares but was overall a beloved film that several grown-ups today remember watching fondly. However, a theory has been making the rounds on Reddit, which paints the entire film in a much darker and sinister light.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995)
According to the theory, Jumanji as a game has a lot more dire consequences than we realize. This stems from the fact that when the game ends in the present, Alan and Sarah find themselves back in the past, back to when they started the game. Not only that, but they also remember everything that transpired in the timeline, even though it has never occurred.

David Alan Grier, who played Alan's childhood friend in the original Jumanji, has not been asked to join the new sequels. The most recent Jumanji sequel, 2019's The Next Level, did include a cameo from Bebe Neuwirth, who played Judy and Peter's mom in the original. The possibility of other cameos from original movie cast members in Jumanji 4 is not out of the question, but time will tell if Grier gets that call.

There were plans at one point to develop a Jumanji sequel with Robin Williams returning, but, for better or for worse, the follow-up film never saw the light of day.
In 1995, Williams starred in Jumanji as Alan Parrish, a man who's been trapped inside a mysterious jungle-themed board game for decades. He's only freed when two children find the game and give it a go themselves, unwittingly freeing Alan and unleashing a horde of wild animals into the town. The story felt complete by the end with Alan able to undo everything that happened, so there wasn't exactly a clamoring for a sequel at the time. However, there were still efforts made to do just that, as author and illlustrator Chris Van Allsburg -- who wrote the original story the movie is based on -- has revealed details about scrapped plans for a direct sequel, per Syfy Wire.

On Dec. 15, 1995, TriStar unveiled the Robin Williams starrer Jumanji in theaters, where it would go on to gross $262 million globally and eventually kickstart a franchise. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
Call it “Game Story.”
Based on a 1981 book by children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg, Jumanji tells the story of a mysterious board game with a treacherous mind of its own; where every roll of the dice carries considerable consequences.
The filmed result is a raucous, noisy affair jam-packed with special effects, amusing character turns and some truly surreal sight gags.
And while all the parts never seem to form a cohesive whole and the rampaging critters may be a little intense for younger viewers, Jumanji holds enough distractions along the way to keep audiences occupied.
Boxoffice results should be respectable but TriStar probably shouldn’t expect a stampede.

Jumanji 4 is confirmed to be in development, and it needs to take a bigger step in connecting the franchise by bringing back original cast members in larger roles. The Jumanji revival series has been successful with both new and original fans, and incorporating more connections to the original film could be beneficial for the franchise. Possible returning cast members for Jumanji 4 could include Judy, Peter, and Van Pelt, as they would add to the legacy of the franchise and raise the stakes for the new sequel.

Bloody Disgusting loves giving props to gateway horror – those films and...

It’s been almost nine years since the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams shook the entertainment world to its core.
The star of films including Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting and Night at the Museum was 63 when he died on 11 August 2014.
Despite the time that has passed, anecdotes of the countless good deeds he did for others continue to be shared, most recently when Nathan Lane revealed how Williams protected him during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
One of Williams’ most popular films was Jumanji, the 1995 blockbuster co-starring Bonnie Hunt and Jonathan Hyde.
It also featured Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce, who were child stars at the time. In 2020, celebrating the film’s 25th anniversary, Pierce revealed how Williams once stepped in to defend him from over-demanding producers.
Jumanji followed two children whose worlds collides with Williams’s Alan Parrish, who got sucked into the magical board game as a young boy.

Part of the popularity of Disney's Beauty and the Beast is due to its large and vibrant cast of characters, but there was one last-minute character change that had a big impact on the movie. The original animated film of Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991 and was the fifth Disney Princess movie. It was based on the fairytale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, but, like most of their adaptations, Disney made changes from the original. Their best changes were adding characters like Gaston, the main antagonist, Maurice, Belle's father, and, of course, the memorable living objects that serve in the Beast's castle.
Some of the Beast's staff members were Mrs. Potts, the head housekeeper who was transformed into a teapot by the Enchantress, and her children, who were turned into teacups, including her seven-year-old son Chip. Chip was brave and cheerful and easily the cutest character in Beauty and the Beast,...

Director Joe Johnston's "Jumanji" came along at just the right time for Robin Williams. Having settled into his groove as an actor, Williams was not quite at the point where he could fully shed his hurricane of a comedic persona on-screen. That would happen a little later in his career when he starred in films like "One Hour Photo" and "Insomnia."
If anything, though, this worked in Williams' favor on "Jumanji." His character in the film, Alan Parrish, is just a boy when he's trapped in the titular magic board game in 1969, only to emerge a fully grown adult — with an untamed beard and a mane of hair to rival that of the lion he squares off with — when he escapes the game 26 years later. Having survived in the jungles of Jumanji alone all this time, Alan the adult is emotionally stunted. As such, in the scenes where Williams indulges his zanier side,...

The Supreme Court’s potential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade would result the immediate gutting of reproductive rights across conservative America, but some states are already taking action. The Louisiana state House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday advanced a bill that would make abortion a homicide, opening the door for mothers who terminate a pregnancy in the state to be charged with murder.
“We can’t wait on the Supreme Court,” said Republican Rep. Danny McCormick, who co-authored the bill with a Baptist reverend.

A big screen reboot of the little people known as The Borrowers is on its way courtesy of Universal Pictures and Working Title, who have announced that an updated feature version is now in development. Potentially at the helm is Sausage Party and The Addams Family director Conrad Verno, who is currently in talks and will be working from a screenplay by Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway writer Patrick Burleigh.
The new Borrowers project is believed to be live action and will be based on the children's fantasy novel by the English author Mary Norton, which was first published in 1952. The story features a family of tiny people, The Borrowers, who live secretly in the walls and floors of an English house and "borrow" from the big people in order to survive. The Borrowers' adventures were then continued in several follow-up novels, The Borrowers Afield (1955), The Borrowers Afloat (1959), The Borrowers...

The four of them unite to finish the game that Williams' and Hunt's characters started as children and are in for one wild ride with monkeys, a hunter named Van Pelt, and so much more in the mix.

1995’s Jumanji is widely regarded as a classic family adventure movie. On its original release, it was one of the highest-grossing films of the year and went on to spawn a cartoon show, a semi-sequel in Zathura: A Space Adventure and the recent Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level. And ever since the tragic death of star Robin Williams in 2014, its stature has risen even more, with those that grew up with the pic introducing both it and the actor to their own children.
Bradley Pierce, who played the young Peter Shepherd in the film, recently spoke to People Magazine about his time working on the project and revealed a very touching moment where Williams looked out for the child stars in the cast. It came during the climactic monsoon sequence, which necessitated working in a gigantic water tank.

Jumanji star Bradley Pierce has been reminiscing over his time spent filming the treasured family adventure movie on its 25th anniversary, opening up about what it was like to work alongside the late, great Robin Williams. Pierce, who played Peter Shepherd opposite Williams in the 1995 fantasy adventure, reflected on the comedian's inspiring presence and playful nature, which helped a great deal in making the child actor feel comfortable on set.
"Getting to work with Robin was so special because he's just such a talented and amazing performer and person. He inspired everyone around him. He was able to take what should have been, or at least could have been, an incredibly stressful work environment with all the challenges of creating a heavy special effects movie with all of the moving parts and all of the cast and crew, and he really made it fun and easy, even playful, most of the time.

Before it became a blockbuster vehicle for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart, Joe Johnston's Jumanji was one of the most financially successful family films of the '90s. Starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, Bradley Pierce, and Patricia Clarkson, the film follows a pair of young kids who find a mysteriously magical board game and unwittingly unleash a man trapped inside the game for decades.

Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney's most timeless classics, but there's a lot about the animated film that you might not have realized. For instance, do you know exactly what kind of animal the Beast was based on? Or his real name? The reboot is absolutely gorgeous and has a few interesting updates, but for now, let's revisit all of the interesting tidbits that make the 1991 film so great.
Jackie Chan dubbed the voice of the Beast for Chinese-speaking countries. He provided vocals for both the Beast's speaking and singing parts! Chip originally had only one line. The producers liked 9-year-old actor Bradley Pierce's voice so much that they asked to expand the role. He also wasn't supposed to be a teacup. Early drawings of the character saw him as a music box who could only communicate by his chiming musical notes.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan is set to be released this December. The film is going to be a sequel to the original Jumanji film that starred the late Robin Williams, Kristen Dunst, and Bradley Pierce in 1995. It's about two kids who find a magical board game and as they play it they release a man who had been trapped there for decades, but in doing so also release other dangers that can only be returned by finishing the game. The film is an adaptation of the self-titled children's book published in 1981 by Chris Van Allsburg. How will this sequel connect with the original film which is 22 years old? As a courtesy I am going to put a Spoiler Alert as the topic at hand deals with some of the scenes in the film.
Thanks to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter with Jack Black on the sidelines of CineEurope in Barcelona we have some idea of what to expect. This is what he had to say about the differences between the two films:
“[In the original] you never got to see the inside world, but this one takes place primarily inside the jungle of Jumanji. That’s the coolest part of the film -- we’re able to transport the audience to that secret and wondrous land, with the danger and the beauty."
The film actually takes place inside game where Alan Parrish, Robin William's character, was trapped in for so many years. Speaking of Robin Williams, Black also commented on how his character from the 1995 film plays a role in the film:
“We’re exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it’s life or death,” he said. “But while we’re there, we find clues left behind by [Williams’ character Alan Parrish]. He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It’s like he’s there helping us without actually being there.”
It will be great to see what Alan Parrish went through in that mysterious jungle land that is found inside the game. Although I am very happy to see this film get a sequel, I fear that the gap between films is too far and a lot of the younger generation won't be able to connect the two. Also, my biggest issue is the casting of both Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. I think that they are in too many films, and we are getting to a point where although they have had some good films, we need to see some different faces on the big screen. Because of the nostalgia, and also curiosity about the jungle world, I will definitely be watching this. Does Jumanji interest you? Does the casting make you want to watch the film more or less? Chime in below!

It's being remade with Dwayne Johnson - but what's so special about the original Jumanji? We take a look back...
The 1990s saw a number of leaps forward in computer generated effects, from Terminator 2: Judgment Day at the beginning of the decade to The Matrix near the end. Hollywood blockbusters reflected the boom in visual effects accordingly and some films hold up better than others – 1995's Jumanji fits right in the middle.
In line with the special effects wizardry that had brought dinosaurs to the big screen in Jurassic Park a couple of years prior, Joe Johnston's wacky fantasy adventure unleashed a jungle on small town America with funny and scary results. With a reboot/belated sequel on the horizon, it's interesting to look back at how this one is more fondly remembered, whether as a visual effects extravaganza or as an action packed family movie.

Dwayne Johnson took to social media once again today to reval that Morgan Turner is one of four new characters that the actor calls "Jumanji Juniors," with Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman and Alex Wolff playing the other Juniors. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say on Instagram about these Jumanji Juniors.

"My character's one of the greatest explorers in the world and I'm deep in the jungles of #Jumanji and discovering new land.. never mind @hhgarcia41 ruined the damn shot. #OnLocation #Hawaii #Welcome2Jumanji"
The Instagram video gives us a good look at the jungle locales the production is using in Hawaii, but unfortunately, he doesn't reveal anything about the story, or his character Dr.

Production has begun on the star-studded Jumanji 2, with both Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart releasing the first photos through social media yesterday. The photo offered our first look at both of those stars in character as Dr. Bravestone and Moose Finbar, along with Jack Black as Professor Shelly Oberon and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, which lead to several fans commenting on Karen Gillan's skimpy outfit, while all of her male co-stars are fully clothed. Today Karen Gillan fired back with her own message on social media.
Dwayne Johnson revealed in his Instagram post that Karen Gillan's "jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot," although he wouldn't offer any plot specifics at this time. Still, the skimpy costume became quite the hot topic, which lead to Karen Gillan releasing her own brief statement on Twitter. Here's what she had to say below, which could offer...

It's a jungle out there! Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are rolling the dice on a reboot of the 1995 board game adventure comedy Jumanji. And while they've only been filming for one day, things are already looking pretty wild. Johnson and Hart gave fans a sneak peak of the action on Tuesday, posting a shot of the four leads in costume standing in the middle of the jungle. "Hard workin' and Fun first day of shooting in the jungle with this talented and crazy motley crew," Johnson captioned the pic on his Instagram shot.

Dwayne Johnson always keeps his fans in the loop on his various projects, and now the actor has shared the first set video from Jumanji, which is a sequel, and not a remake. This on-set sneak peek features the actor alongside co-stars Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan as a Hawaiian priest blesses the movie. It was also anounced that shooting has officially begun. Here's what The Rock had to say about this ritual on Instagram.
"Before we embark on our #Jumanji here in Hawaii, we gathered our entire cast (here with me are Jack Black, Kevin Hart, our director Jake Kasdan and Karen Gillan) and crew together as our Hawaiian Kahu (priest) Cordell Keka blesses our film with powerful aloha spirit of laughter, enjoyment and love. I often talk about mana (spirit) with you guys and the mana in this room/in this moment was extremely powerful -...

Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that his new next project will in fact be a Jumanji sequel that continues the story of the original 1995 classic. The actor leads an ensemble cast that includes his Central Intelligence co-star Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas. Today, the actor revealed that Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) has also joined the cast. While there is very little we know about her character, Dwayne Johnson made it clear she has one of the most important roles in the film.
Dwayne Johnson broke the news himself earlier today on Instgram and his other social media accounts. The actor/producer wouldn't reveal her character's name, or how she fits into the story, but he did state that he and his co-stars went through a grueling search to find the right actress. Here's what he had to say on Instagram.
