Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. So, what do you want from a weird, sketchy, indie genre film? How about a cool backstory, where the director (Michael Reich) supposedly funded the film in part by being a Daft Punk body double? Or how about mixing pop culture esoterica, from the Bruce Campbell classic Congo to an all feline version of Carrie, all smashed together with the aesthetic of a mid-80s music video? You’re going to get something you really like, or something that feels tedious, indulgent and downright irritating. There are innumerable statistics on the sex trade industry and its impact not only on the lives of mostly young and destitute women, but also the communities - mostly poor ones - that it impacts. Last time I wrote about this was in February when it was announced that it had been sold to distributor Grindstone Entertainment/Lionsgate Home Entertainment. And as I learned today, an official release date has been set, and Lionsgate has released a new release trailer for it, which I embedded below. Michael Pinckney's feature film debut, executive-produced by Spike Lee by the way, is titled You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills You, and stars Michael K. Lionsgate Home Entertainment has acquired and set a release date for the thriller You're Nobody Until Somebody Kills You, executive produced by Spike Lee and written and directed by Michael A. Pinckney.

The film hits DVD on July 10th and stars James McDaniel, Michael Mosley, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane and Michael K. Williams. Head inside for the trailer.

Washington, Mar 18: Bobby Brown has written a script for a film on his life and wants daughter Bobbi Kristina to act in it.

The script, entitled The Bad Boy of R andB: The Bobby Brown Story, was initially being sent out to potential backers late last year but received very little interest.

According to Carltonjordan.com, after the death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston on February 11, Brown and his writing partner Michael Pinckney have had renewed attention to the project, RadarOnline reported.

"The script's ending will now have to be re-written to include the untimely death of the 'Bodyguard' star," a source said.

Rapper Doug E. Fresh's connections to the horror genre go way back to 1986 when he and The Get Fresh Crew sampled the theme from Phantasm for their old school hit "Play This Only at Night". Michael Pinckney, who is making his feature debut after a string of assistant director gigs, landed Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh and Ed Lover to appear alongside stars Michael Kenneth Williams, Michael Mosley and Chance Kelly. The film is described as "an action-packed and gritty story of two New York City homicide detectives that are forced into the high-stakes world of the hip hop industry. A complex web of murder, sex, money and music unfolds as the homicide detectives track a serial killer with an appetite for some of hip hop's biggest stars." Kecia J. Benson is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker who is looking to complete a documentary on the renowned Blues musician Memphis Gold.

Kecia needs our support so she can finish the remainder of the film in Memphis, Tn, to document Memphis Gold’s journey in becoming the legendary artist he is today.

Via Kickstarter, Kecia is asking for $5,000 by April 14, 2011 and so far she has raised $1,1623 as of March 20.

There are some nice perks for donating, including a free download of Memphis Gold’s latest single How you Gonna Play the Blues, thank you credits in the film, tickets to the New York premiere of the film, and an autographed signature of his latest album Pickin in High Cotton – all depending on how much you give.

I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting Memphis Gold, and he is an amazing guy! He still performs to this day, even with a fairly recent spinal cord injury.

A little about Michael Pinckney – he got his start a decade ago under Spike Lee’s guidance, working as an assistant director on films and television series, like The 25th Hour, 7th Heaven, The Best Man, Law & Order, Inside Man and Precious.

Pinckney has directed several short films, commercials, music videos and PSA’s. You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills You is his feature film debut. Clearly, he’s put in the work, which is good. As Spike has impressed on talent previously, learn the craft!

I don’t have HBO, so I’ve yet to see a single episode of Martin Scorsese’s prohibition era drama Boardwalk Empire, which features Michael K. Williams in a pivotal role as a character conveniently named Chalky White, the bootlegger.

From what I’ve read today, it seems last night’s episode featured his most prominent appearance thus far, during which Chalky sits with, and confronts a leader of the Kkk, also the chief suspect in the murder of his young driver, and shares his tragic history, involving his father, a carpenter who was later lynched in Texas. Chalky lays out his father’s carpenter tools with plans to use them to make the Kkk man talk.

Some called Williams’ moment “a show-stealing monologue,” haunting and dark.
