‘Barbie’ Leads Hpa Awards Feature Competition With Three Nominations

Barbie leads the feature competition of the annual Hpa Awards, whose nominations in features, TV, documentaries, commercials and restoration were announced Tuesday.

The postproduction community nominated Greta Gerwig’s hit film for outstanding color grading, editing and sound. Close behind with two nominations apiece in the feature categories are Oppenheimer (color grading and editing), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (sound and visual effects), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (color grading and editing), Tár (color grading and editing) and Avatar: The Way of Water, for which teams at Weta FX and Industrial Light & Magic were both nominated in the VFX category.

The eligibility period runs from September 2022 to September 2023, which is why some of last year’s Oscar winners and contenders are nominated alongside some of the upcoming season’s contenders.

The winners will be announced during a Nov. 9 ceremony at the Hollywood Legion Theater. The complete list of nominees follows:

Further Aacta nominations for ‘The Newsreader’, ‘Nitram’

ABC’s The Newsreader has collected a further six Aacta Award nominations, taking its total to 16, with the academy unveiling the technical craft nominees today.

Nitram now leads in film after picking up another eight nominations, taking its total to 15. High Ground gathered four further nods, taking its tally to 12, tying it with The Dry, which gained another six today.

This year’s Industry Awards will again be virtual, broadcast online on Aacta TV as part of the 2021 ScreenFest Program, as well as Binge and Foxtel Arena, December 6. The ceremony will then be held two days later at the Sydney Opera House.

This year, key film prizes as best supporting actor and actress in a film, as well as best original and adapted screenplays, will be presented during the industry awards, rather than the main ceremony as has been the case in previous years. Other key TV prizes will also...

In the wake of the closure of the biggest supplier in the local industry, Ketels writes for If about the new gig, and why, "although we are very small compared to Ddp/Deluxe... in Australia at the moment it doesn't make much sense to be that big."

Our new post facility is in a converted warehouse in Collingwood and we are offering picture post and VFX services on long-form and short-form TV and film projects. Rohan Cooper is our Operational Manager and main staff editor, Steve Cooper is the Owner, Managing Director and VFX Supervisor, and business partner Kurt Royan is the General Manager across both facilities.

Roger Savage receives lifetime achievement award at Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards

A 40-year veteran of the Australian film industry has been recognised for his achievements by the Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards.

The Syd Butterworth lifetime Achievement Award went to sound mixer Roger Savage at a ceremony last night at Sydney’s The Establishment.

Savage’s first film was a surf documentary about the 1970 World Championship, Getting Back To Nothing, directed by Tim Burstall in 1971. His next film was Mad Max in 1979 Mad Max, as well as other classics Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Crocodile Dundee. More recently Savage has worked on Mao’s Last Dancer and Mental.

Elsewhere at the awards, Burning Man won the best film sound recording beating out Wish You Were Here, Swerve, Lore and Killer Elite.

Australian Screen Sound Guild awards announced
The Australian Sound Guild has announced the winners of.the 2012 Assg Awards.

Held yesterday at The Establishment Ballroom in Sydney, well over a hundred guests were in attendance.

The Assg has reported this year saw a record number of nominations.

Roger Savage (Babe, Moulin Rouge, Mental) was honoured with the Syd Butterworth Lifetime Achievement Award, and in his acceptance speech spoke of the difficulties the industry is currently facing.

.The problem we all face is low budgets,. he said. .We need to adapt to this new environment. It.s not just in Australia, it.s global. What we need to do is adapt and change.

.It is a collaborative industry and I.d like to share (this award) with everyone associated with sound, both past and present..

Best film sound mixing and best soundtrack both went to Killer Elite while Best Film Sound Design was awarded to Wish You Were Here.
