Australian Family Dramedy 'The Travellers' Trailer with Luke Bracey
Image
"I'm not looking forward to old age..." "Then don't look forward." Sony Pictures Australia has unveiled an official trailer for an Australian family dramedy called The Travellers, opening in cinemas Down Under this October. It's the latest film from acclaimed Aussie filmmaker Bruce Beresford, best known for directing Driving Miss Daisy, Double Jeopardy, and many other movies over decades. It's also written by Beresford, who seems to be tapping into his own experiences to tell this story. Stephen Seary, a stage designer, returns to Australia to say goodbye to his dying mother. What should be a quick trip descends into chaos, drama, and funny moments as he juggles family tension, past lovers, and his desire to return to Europe for a major opera contract. Described as "poignant & heartwarming", The Travellers stars Luke Bracey as Stephen, Bryan Brown, Susie Porter, Shubshri Kandiah, Celia Massingham, and Nicholas Hammond. This looks charming and heartfelt.

Kaitlyn Dever's Scammer Comedy 'Apple Cider Vinegar' Gets A New Trailer
Image
Kaitlyn Dever cured her cancer with a little apple cider vinegar — or, at least, that's what her character in the new Netflix series Apple Cider Vinegar would have you believe. The true story (based on a lie) has been turned into a dark comedy show for the streaming service, and its new trailer makes it look like one you won't want to miss.

Also starring The 100 and Fear The Walking Dead star Alycia Debnam-Carey and The Bold Type's Aisha Dee, the show follows two women setting out to cure their life-threatening illnesses with health and wellness rather than, say, certified medical science. Apple Cider Vinegar centers its gaze on early Instagram scammer Belle Gibson (Dever), an "Australian wellness influencer who claims to have cured her terminal brain cancer through health and wellness," per the official Netflix press release. "As it turns out, Belle has never actually been diagnosed with — or...

Fear Is the Rider: Ben Mendelsohn, Toby Wallace, & more join Abbey Lee in Australian Outback slasher
Image
Nearly three years have passed since it was first announced that Abbey Lee (Old) and Christopher Abbott (Possessor) had signed on to star in the Australian Outback thriller Fear Is the Rider, which is coming to us from John Michael McDonagh, the BAFTA-nominated writer/director of the 2011 film The Guard… and while the project has lost Abbott in that time, it’s still alive, and Abbey Lee is still attached to star in it. Deadline reports that Lee has now been joined in the cast by Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders), and Eliza Scanlen (Babyteeth). Film Constellation and CAA Media Finance will be seeking distribution deals at this week’s American Film Market.

McDonagh’s plan is to make a trilogy of Fear Is the Rider thrillers – and if you look at the synopses provided, you’ll see that the current version of the film...

As for plot, the film follows “a lone woman, searching for her missing mother, who is pursued into the Australian Outback by a terrifying family of serial killers, with only an ex-con and a young girl willing to help her.”

Fear is the Rider is an adaptation of the novel The Hunted by Gabriel Bergmoser, written and directed by John Michael McDonagh‘s (The Guard).

Mercy Road Review | This Psychotic Thriller Is Bumpy, But Never Dull
Image
“My name is Ruby, and I am with my father,” a frantic young woman moans through a voice message. “Everyone just stay away from us.” Well, Ruby certainly has everybody’s attention in director John Curran’s’s intense new film, Mercy Road. Immediately everybody is calling Tom (Luke Bracey of One True Loves and Little Fires Everywhere), whom we meet covered in blood and hopping into his work truck. Thing is, Tom isn’t with Ruby, and he has not abducted her as everyone suspects.

Tom is on the run, however, fleeing from something ominous that occurred, and as he frantically speeds down the road in the dark of night in his truck, he’s bombarded with one call after another. A few of them come from people barking out instructions he must follow — or else. One caller, in particular, known as “the associate,” is a psychopath who kidnapped his daughter because,...

Gritty Crime Thriller from Australia Set in a Truck - 'Mercy Road' Trailer
Image
"Tell me what you want!" "Don't ever stop driving." An official trailer is out for an indie crime thriller from Australia titled Mercy Road, the latest film made by director John Curran. Not to be confused with Jim Cummings' Thunder Road. This recently premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival and already opened in Australia this month, with a US release coming up soon. In Curran's thriller Mercy Road – an unrelentingly tense psychological thriller – Luke Bracey plays a flawed everyday man who commits an impulsive and vicious crime. In this ultimate journey to redemption, he soon learns just how far he is willing to go to save his child. The cast includes Huw Higginson, Susie Porter, Alex Malone, Martha Kate Morgan, and Toby Jones. Early reviews are positive, saying "Bracey plays a dad on a mission to save his daughter in this strangely surreal film set mostly in a truck.

Abigail Lawrie & Rhianne Barreto in Yacht Thriller 'No Escape' Trailer
Image
"It's not them I'm worried about." Paramount+ in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for a horror thriller film titled No Escape, from director Hans Herbots and writer Kris Mrksa. Reinventing themselves on the other side of the world, 19-year-old Brits Kitty and Lana find refuge on a yacht in the Philippines called "The Blue" - full of beautiful people, parties and endless beaches. But in joining her crew, they fall into far greater dangers than the ones they were trying to escape. Sounds like a modern version on The Beach, involving a yacht and pirates this time. Adapted from a book by Lucy Clarke. "It's been the most incredible experience to see my novel re-imagined for screen. I’ve loved every moment of the journey from reading early scripts to visiting the set in Thailand. The series is breathtaking: transportive, gripping, and thrilling from beginning to end. I...

‘Transfusion’ (2023) Movie Review: The Sad Thriller about a War Veteran
Image
Transfusion is a 2023 thriller movie written and directed by Matt Nable starring Sam Worthington and Phoebe Tonkin.

This is a movie that wants to “go beyond the script” and, precisely because of the script, never manages to do so. Good acting by Sam Worthington in a slow burning thriller that ends without a definition between a character drama and a thriller.

Storyline

An ex agent of the armed forces has a son with problems he will try to protect at all costs.

Movie Review Transfusion

This is a movie written, directed and starred by Matt Nable, which tries to offer us a different kind of movie in its treatment but, never manages to do so in the script. The hackneyed subject of “my son at all costs”, done so many times (even by actors not called Liam Neeson), stands up as far as a script goes, there is structure and empathy with the viewer,...
