Clancy Brown, Joel McHale, and more actors who self-submitted at this year’s Emmys
Image
Networks and studios submit hundreds of actors for Emmy consideration each year, but those not officially entered can still self-submit for a chance at receiving a nomination. This year, that happened in droves.

Recognizable names like Clancy Brown (supporting actor for The Penguin) and Joel McHale (guest star on The Bear) were not on the studios' lists that were made public prior to the ballots being released on June 12. It's possible they were added later by the networks, or that the performers self-submitted. Note that Television Academy members get one free submission each year; otherwise, entry fees are based on several factors. Here is the fine print from the Emmys rulebook:

Individual achievement entries have a processing charge of $125 per submission. In addition to the $125 processing charge, each entrant is charged a $100 entry fee per individual listed on the entry, e.g., for an individual achievement entry with two entrants,...

Noah Wyle teases ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 in these 12 words
Image
The Pitt gave a shot of adrenaline to FYC season on Wednesday with a special set visit for Emmy voters, followed by a screening of the Season 1 finale and a panel with Noah Wyle (Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and an executive producer), Shabana Azeez (Victoria Javadi), Fiona Dourif (Dr. Cassie McKay), Katherine Lanasa (Nurse Dana Evans), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins), Isa Briones (Dr. Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (Dennis Whitaker), R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells (executive producer).

During the group Q&a, it was confirmed that Season 2 begins filming "next month" on the Warner Bros. lot. While the cast and producers couldn't speak much about the new episodes, Wyle did tease the plot with 12 words: "Fourth of July. 250th anniversary of America. Big holiday weekend. Busy shift." Hmm, let the fan theories commence!

Gemmill joked that, for Season 2, he pitched an "evil twin" reveal at a "furry convention" in Pittsburgh during Independence Day.

“Amazon Like to Get a Lot of Data": ‘Leverage: Redemption’ Showrunner Offers Disappointing Update on Season 4
Image
The third season of Leverage: Redemption, the spin-off of the 2008 drama series, Leverage, is heading towards its season finale. The Prime Video series is currently halfway through the season with a number of jobs left to be pulled off. Devlin also serves as showrunner on The Librarians: The Next Chapter, and in an interview with ScreenRant regarding that show, Devlin discussed the major delay experienced by Leverage: Redemption renewal chances.

As fans and audiences remain in the dark concerning a Season 4 renewal, so are the cast and crew of the show as well. Season 3 is the first time Leverage: Redemption is being hosted on Prime Video, as the previous seasons were hosted on Freevee. Devlin explains that...

"Let's Get It Going": ‘Leverage: Redemption’s Parker Star Addresses Season 4 Renewal Chances
Image
As far as revival shows go, Leverage: Redemption has been impressive, with the third season recently premiering on Prime Video. With Season 3 now halfway through, fans might have begun to wonder about its renewal chances, especially considering how positive critical and audience reception are no longer enough to guarantee renewals these days. The metrics for renewals have become far more complex, and this is a fact not lost on one of the show's stars,Beth Riesgraf, who plays Parker. The actress recently addressed the show's renewal possibilities, suggesting that the streamer's subscription volume might be the ultimate deciding factor.

The original Leverage premiered on TNT in December 2008 and soon won over audiences with its weekly case format, which delivered back-to-back heist thrills. The show sees the central team of five, consisting of a thief, a grifter, a hacker, a hitter, and a mastermind, leverage their skills for a good cause,...

Below, Beth Riesgraf talks about directing this Leverage: Redemption episode, teases what to expect, and previews Drew Powell‘s upcoming return as former-mark-turned-Leverage International member Hurley. This article contains spoilers from Tracker Season 2, Episode 20, "Echo Ridge."

Tracker star Justin Hartley recently opened up about the show's major Season 2 cliffhanger. He also talked about what it will mean for the series going forward.

‘Tracker’ Season 2 Finale Recap: Colter Goes Home
Image
Wendy Crawford as Mary Dove Shaw and Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in the ‘Tracker’ season 2 finale

Colter’s still trying to figure out who the phone number hidden in his dad’s journal belongs to as CBS’s Tracker season two episode 20, the season finale, opens. Randy (Chris Lee) discovers the number was registered to David Pearson, who committed suicide in 2003. Which, coincidentally, is the same year Colter’s dad died.

David was a research scientist, but there’s not much available on his work. Randy did find that he lived in Hampton, Va before he moved to California. Randy’s spidey senses are in overdrive since that’s near Langley. David could have worked for (or with) the government. Randy promises to continue researching David’s history.

The season finale’s case finds Colter (Justin Hartley) heading back home to Echo Ridge. His mom, Mary (Wendy Crewson), points...

‘Tracker’ Star Justin Hartley on Who Killed Colter’s Dad and How That Finale Cliffhanger Sets Up Season 3
Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Echo Ridge,” the Season 2 finale of CBS’ “Tracker.”

As a self-described lone wolf survivalist, Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) has used his expert tracking skills to help crack all kinds of mysteries for private citizens and law enforcement across the United States. But for two seasons of the CBS drama “Tracker,” Colter has slowly begun to unravel the decades-long mystery surrounding the death of his own father, Ashton, whose paranoia about government surveillance had forced the rest of their family to live off the grid as survivalists.

While he had long suspected that his estranged older brother, Russell (Jensen Ackles), was responsible for fatally pushing their father off a cliff on a rainy night in the woods, Colter could not shake the feeling that he wasn’t being told the full story. After asking for Colter’s help on a case involving one of...

Image
Katherine Lanasa was busy cleaning boots in her attic when she got a text from Supriya Ganesh, her costar on The Pitt. "She said, 'Congratulations' — something like that — 'that's so exciting!' The actress is nominated for Best Supporting Performance in a Drama Series for her turn as charge nurse Dana Evans. The Max medical drama received two other nominations for Best Drama Series and for Noah Wyle's lead performance. "I sent it to everyone. Chris Hemsworth & Halle Berry's 'Crime 101' Gets 2026 Release Date
Image
Those looking for the 411 on Crime 101are in luck, as Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry's upcoming heist thriller has stolen a high-profile date in Amazon MGM Studios' theatrical release calendar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crime 101, based on the crime novella of the same name by author Don Winslow, will open in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine's Day, because who needs flowers when you have an Avenger in action outside the MCU? It also coincides with the beginning of Presidents' Day weekend.

The studio behind Crime 101 has reportedly committed to Feb. 13, 2026, despite it being the same day that Emerald Fennell's controversial Wuthering Heights' adaptation opens in theaters, and a highly curious untitled MCU Phase 6 movie. This release date takes advantage of the long holiday weekend that often presents moviegoers with free time to visit the theater. The addition of Crime 101 to the...

Ifeachor's Collins does not appear for the rest of the season ... so what happened?

The Pitt Episode 14 Reveals The Shooter's Identity (And Everyone Was Wrong)
Image
This article contains discussions of mass violence, suicide, and mental health.

Stop reading right now if you haven't watched "The Pitt" Episode 14, "8:00 P.M." — spoilers lie ahead.

In the 11th episode of the hit Max original "The Pitt," the doctors at a crowded Pittsburgh emergency room (including Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, played by "ER" veteran Noah Wyle) get word that there's an active shooter at a local festival called PittFest, and immediately, they all brace for impact. Waves of grievously injured patients then flood the ER, some of whom don't even make it to the hospital alive. Before long, the doctors find themselves in a situation where they're so low on supplies and blood that they have to find some seriously unconventional solutions to the problem.

By episode 14, which "takes place" at 8 P.M., we learn that the shooter has been neutralized. Here's the thing, though. It's not the teenager in custody,...

‘The Pitt’ Team Teases Abbott Trauma, End of Shift, and Unresolved Storylines in Finale
Image
The Pitt is just over two-thirds of the way through its first season (it’s already been renewed for Season 2!), and there are quite a few storylines in place that could be building to the big finale: There’s the teen whose mother is worried he’ll go after the girls he has on a list; patient Doug Driscoll (Drew Powell) who punched Dana (Katherine Lanasa) is still out there; the shooting with victims about to overwhelm the emergency department; and, of course, Robby’s (Noah Wyle) upcoming, inevitable breakdown. Looking ahead to the finale, all Wyle will tease is, “The shift will end. We watched Robby walk to work. Eventually, he’s going to have to go home.” It does sound like a bit will be left up in the air — and we might not even get answers come Season 2. “One of the premises of the show is that for emergency room personnel,...

The Pitt Season 1, Episode 10 Review: A Character's Story Ends Badly
Image
Quick LinksThe Pitt Season 1, Episode 10 Tackles Dana's RecoveryThe Pitt Pries Into Dr. Cassie McKay's Personal LifeIs Dr. Frank Langdon Really Leaving The Pitt?

The following contains major spoilers from The Pitt Season 1, Episode 10, "4:00 P.M.," now streaming on Max.

The Pitt Season 1, Episode 10, "4:00 P.M." reveals which unlucky character punches out early. The very premise of the Max medical drama made it clear that at least one of the main characters wouldn't get through the next 15 hours, just because half of them were brand-new faces thrown into the chaos of the ER. But surprisingly, it's not one of the medical students who is sent packing.

"4:00 P.M." addresses the aftermath of Dana Evans being attacked in Episode 9, both for her and for the hospital. But the bigger development is that Episode 10 gets back to a plotline that's been brewing for a long time, and gives it a messy but appropriate resolution.

‘The Pitt’s Latest Episode Ended With a Violent Plot Twist, but It Happens Way More Than You Think
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for The Pitt Season 1, Episode 9.If The Pitt's last episode was emotionally crushing for Doctor Robby (Noah Wyle) and his team, considering the death of the little girl, Amber (Hadley Smith) and the send-off to Nick Bradley, Episode 9 doubles down on the sentiment. At the start of the episode, Robby calls for a huddle to take a moment of reflection and support some of his team members who may be finding it hard to process the grief. However, the moment of reflection is interrupted, and The Pitt establishes that the show must always go on in the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Despite the otherwise eventful nature of Episode 9 (much like every other episode of this medical drama), it's the violent plot twist in the end that brings everything to a screeching halt. Episode 9 of The Pitt ends with Katherine Lanasa's character,...

‘The Pitt’ Star Katherine Lanasa Says Dana Faces an ‘Existential Crisis’ After Episode 9 Attack
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Pitt” Episode 9.

“The Pitt” prides itself in being an authentic portrayal of the everyday lives of American healthcare workers — even in one of its most dramatic moments yet.

Episode 9 of the Max medical drama puts the spotlight on ER charge nurse Dana Evans (Katherine Lanasa), who shines in a standout scene where she breaks up a physical fight between two women and also tempers the mood of unruly patient Doug Driscoll (Drew Powell) who is waiting for his test results. The episode, which was written by series star Noah Wyle, ends as Dana heads outside for a smoke break, when Doug comes out of nowhere and punches her in the face, before leaving the hospital against medical advice.

“The rest of the storyline she really goes through an existential crisis,” Lanasa told TheWrap of the dramatic cliffhanger. “She tries to keep it together...

‘The Unbreakable Boy’ Review: Zachary Levi Is the Troubled Dad in an Autism Drama Too Feel-Good for Its Own Good
Image
How sunny and well-meaning and therapeutically feel-good is the new autism drama “The Unbreakable Boy?” It’s a movie in which the dad, played by Zachary Levi, has an imaginary best friend. It’s a movie in which the local church is run by a Matthew McConaughey sort of dude named Preacher Rick (Peter Facinelli), who’s so down with his downtrodden flock that he himself is a recovering alcoholic who admits he sometimes doesn’t like to go to church. And it’s a movie in which the title character, an owlish 13-year-old named Austin (Jacob Laval), isn’t merely autistic. He also suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, which means that his bones are extraordinarily fragile, so that he’s like some teen-geek version of Mr. Glass in “Unbreakable.” Speaking to the audience in voiceover, Austin lists his bone breaks, which number in the high twenties, as if they were Pokémon cards he was collecting.

The Unbreakable Boy Review: Zachary Levi leads a drama about the challenges of parenting a special needs child
Image
Plot: When his parents, Scott and Teresa, learn that Austin is both autistic and has brittle bone disease, they initially worry for their son’s future. But with Scott’s growing faith and Austin’s incredible spirit, they become “unbreakable,” finding joy, gratitude, and courage even in the most trying times — an extraordinary true story about a father and son learning together that every day can be the best day of your life!

Review: Faith-based films often get a bad rap. Many films heavily focused on Christian themes get labeled and struggle to garner mainstream attention. Still, they can sometimes tell beautiful stories that are inclusive rather than damning of other religions. Like last year’s Ordinary Angels, also directed by Jon Gunn, The Unbreakable Boy tells an emotional and challenging true story of a young boy whose challenges are an inspiration to those around them. Rather than sugarcoat the story,...

The Unbreakable Boy Review: Zachary Levi Movie Doesn't Reach Its Potential
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Unbreakable Boy, in theaters Feb. 21, 2025.

Lionsgate is attempting to fill the feel-good family movie void with The Unbreakable Boy, based on the memoir of the same name by Scott LeRette and both written and directed by Jon Gunn. Telling the true story of Scott and his autistic son Austin, the film feels like a throwback to a not-so-distant past with all its charm and awkwardness – and this could have been just the refreshing change of pace audiences needed. However, while The Unbreakable Boy aspires to relatable wholesomeness, it doesn't quite reach its own goals.

The Unbreakable Boy follows the LeRette family -- comprised of Scott (played by Zachary Levi), his wife Teresa (Meghann Fahy), and their sons Austin (Jacob Laval) and Logan (Gavin Warren). After Austin is diagnosed with osteogeneis imperfecta -- also known as "brittle bone syndrome" -- and autism, Scott must put...

Zachary Levi on Why Publicly Supporting Trump Was “More Important Than Saving” Career
Image
Zachary Levi is reflecting on why it was more important to be candid about his support for Donald Trump than worry about his career.

While on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show, the Shazam! actor recalled being asked by Tulsi Gabbard to moderate a town hall that she and Robert Kennedy Jr. were doing in support of Trump. Despite initially feeling hesitant to do so, Levi said he “felt peace” after doing it.

“I felt peace because I knew that this was more important than saving my career,” he told Kelly. “I think we too often fall into these paradigms, these thought processes of self-preservation, and it is not good. We need to be wise and we want to survive and we want to live and flourish and all those things, but we can’t merely make decisions off of ‘Well I hope nothing bad happens to me.’ You got to sacrifice.

‘The Unbreakable Boy’ Review: Zachary Levi in a Drama That Crosses the Thin Line Between Inspirational and Maudlin
Image
There’s an awful lot to handle in The Unbreakable Boy. Not only for the characters but also the audience. Here’s a sampling: autism, brittle bone disease, alcoholism, financial struggles and marital difficulties. It’s based on a true story, so you can’t say the plot elements are contrived (well, actually you can). And it’s all supposed to be wonderfully inspirational, no less. It’s the type of film seemingly designed to make you feel morally deficient if you don’t come away singing its praises.

Well, consider me tone-deaf, because this drama directed by Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels) is an ordeal. It’s not surprising to learn that the film has been sitting on the shelf for nearly four years after its originally planned release. It feels too heavy to pick up.

The cloying cuteness starts at the very beginning with the narration by the titular character,...

'The Unbreakable Boy' Review: A Movie Made of Clichés
Image
The Unbreakable Boy is an adaptation of a book based on a true story about a family struggling with their eldest son's combination of autism and a rare brittle bone disease. It takes a somewhat humorous approach to the proceedings, allowing the titular boy, Austin (Jacob Laval), to narrate events from his own perspective. The movie hits so many familiar notes, however, that the fact that it is a true story almost seems less believable considering we've seen so many similarly structured movies.

The Unbreakable Boy opens with the typical record scratch, "You're probably wondering how I got here" device, which sets the tone for the rest of the film and its paint-by-numbers plot. We begin with Austin's dad, Scott (Zachary Levi), tying one off at a New Year's Eve party and drunkenly driving Austin and his younger brother Logan (Gavin Warren) home, barely staying on the road.

Before we...

Patricia Heaton Details Her Faith & Al Pacino Movie 'The Ritual'
Image
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Patricia Heaton made no bones about it — faith drives her life and her career choices. "My faith has always played a prominent role in my life. It's the center of who I am, my relationship with God." This guiding principle is apparent in her role in The Unbreakable Boy, a movie that may not be explicitly about faith, but rather how faith plays a role in an extended family's battle with a variety of challenges.

While faith was a factor when accepting the role of Mother Superior in the upcoming horror film The Ritual, there were other factors at play:

"When I heard that Al Pacino was doing this movie, I didn't even ask what the script was. 'Yes, I'll do it.' [It is] right up my alley as a Catholic, it's about an exorcism, and it's also a true story..."

So how was working with Pacino?...

'It's Something That's Beautiful': Zachary Levi Praises The Unbreakable Boy
Image
Lionsgate's The Unbreakable Boy is a coming-of-age film for both father and son. Scott Larette (portrayed by Zachary Levi of Shazam fame) has dreams of adventure and fame when his son is born with autism and congenital Brittle Bone Syndrome. For the next 13 years, young Austin Larette (played by Jacob Laval) endures every break and setback with a sunny disposition. Both father and son pick themselves back up, with Scott turning to his son's optimism and unconditional kindness to find a way forward.

In this interview with Cbr, Zachary Levi and Jacob Laval compare their previous acting roles with their work in The Unbreakable Boy, which is based on Scott and Austin's true story. The actors discuss the family dynamic they built together on the set of the movie. Additionally, they give insight into how Austin's condition was portrayed on-screen.

The Pitt Season 1, Episode 4 Review: Noah Wyle Writes the Show's Best Hour
Image
Quick Links The Pitt Season 1, Episode 4 Revolves Around Noah Wyle The Pitt Doesn't Pull Any Punches About Women's Health The Pitt Season 4 Begins to Fix One of the Show's Earlier Problems

The following contains major spoilers from The Pitt Season 1, Episode 4, "10:00 A.M.," now streaming on Max. It also contains discussion of sensitive medical topics.

The Pitt Season 1, Episode 4, "10:00 A.M." is the Max drama's most cohesive hour yet. Perhaps that's because it's written by the show's star, Noah Wyle. The script provides the clearest look into Wyle's character Dr. Michael "Robby" Rabinovitch that viewers have had yet, and it takes on a myriad of often uncomfortable medical issues. This is the kind of tense, emotional material that this show has always aspired to.

"10:00 A.M." is framed by the story of Robby's elderly patient Mr. Spencer, who's nearing the end of his life. Helping Mr.

‘The Pitt’ Review: Noah Wyle Brings Comfort to Max’s Chaotically Fun ER Drama
Image
“The Pitt” is a medical drama from the studio behind “ER,” the producer behind “ER,” and centered on one of the signature stars of “ER.” But it’s not “ER.” Sure, it may or may not have begun its life as an attempt to reboot “ER,” but the show in its current form has nothing to do with “ER.” Except it’s set in an emergency room.

That’s the puzzle of contradictions one must work through when attempting to unpack the new drama from Max.

“ER,” created by the late Michael Crichton, spent 15 seasons tracking the lives of various physicians (including superstar-in-waiting George Clooney as heartthrob Dr. Doug Ross) traipsing through the emergency room at Chicago’s County General. By contrast, “The Pitt,” from producer John Wells and creator R. Scott Gemmill, spends its 15-episode first season chronicling a single shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center in downtown Pittsburgh.

The Pitt TV Review: Noah Wyle returns to the ER in this intense real-time medical series
Image
Last Updated on January 6, 2025

Plot: A realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Each episode follows an hour of Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinavitch’s 15-hour shift as the chief attendant in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room.

Review: Back in the 1990s, two competing medical dramas debuted on network television the same year. CBS series Chicago Hope hailed from David E. Kelley and lasted for six seasons, while NBC’s ER, from creator and medical doctor Michael Crichton, stayed on for fifteen years. ER launched the careers of Juliana Marguiles, George Clooney, and newcomer Noah Wyle. Fifteen years after its series finale, ER veteran Noah Wyle is back in scrubs in a similar yet unique medical drama. The Pitt, from ER showrunner John Wells. Shifting away from...

Image
Amazon Studios’ feature film “Crime 101” is rounding out its cast.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Babak Tafti, Payman Maadi, Deborah Hedwall, Devon Bostick, Paul Adelstein, Drew Powell and Matthew Del Negro have boarded the upcoming crime thriller, which will be released in theaters.

They join previously announced cast members Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins and Halle Berry. Bart Layton wrote the script, which is based on a novella by Don Winslow, and will direct.

Per the logline, Winslow’s original story follows a series of high level jewelry thefts up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that have gone unsolved for years, mostly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls ‘Crime 101.’ Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels, but Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man. Now the lone-wolf jewel...

The second installment in Ryan Murphys Monster biographical true crime anthology series for Netflix, the first of which was Dahmer Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, this nine-episode season follows a different story altogether. Also based on a true story, it centers around the murder of Jos and Kitty Menendez at the hands of their two sons, Lyle and Erik.

The case caught national attention as the trial proceeded. The young men did not deny brutally murdering their parents, and the public was disgusted by their remorseless behavior afterward. That included spending large sums of money to live lavishly with their parents funds. But during the trial,...
