Image
Note: Spoilers for the season one finale of Dexter: Original Sin.

Dexter: Original Sin Revives The Most Tired Debra Morgan Trend From The Original Series
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episode 6.

The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin repeats a familiar yet tired Deb trend of the original series. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his "dark passenger" through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry's code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught. New episodes of Dexter: Original Sin release every Friday exclusively on Paramount+, except for a hiatus on January 17, 2024.

After Michael C. Hall reprised his iconic role as the charismatic vigilante serial killer in 2021's Dexter: New Blood, he returns as Dexter's inner voice and narrator in the prequel series. The series takes place in Miami in 1991 as Dexter begins his career at Miami Metro Pd. Dexter: Original Sin has already covered a few anticipated kills...

Image
There’s a lot going on this week in Dexter: Original Sin episode 6, mostly centered around big moments for Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he evolves further into adulthood, into his knack for crime scene forensics, and as an official vigilante serial killer.

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 6 Recap: Nicky's Kidnapping & 8 Other Story Reveals
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6.The second half of Dexter: Original Sin season 1 got off to a quick start, and there were quite a few developments in the newest episode. Dexter has always been about murder and serial killers, but Original Sin episode 6 stepped it up a notch. There was even a cliffhanger ending involving the severed arm of one of Dexter's previous victims.

Shocking Theory About Dexter: Original Sin Season 1’s Main Villain Identity Looks More Likely After $46M Horror Movie From 2 Years Ago
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 5 and Thanksgiving (2023).A dark theory about the mystery killer in Dexter: Original Sin seems very plausible after a 2023 horror movie starring the possible murderer. The mystery of who killed Jimmy Powell in Dexter: Original Sin is shaping up to be the show's biggest twist. There are only a handful of new characters in the cast of Dexter: Original Sin, which means there are only a few potential killers so far. Since characters like Angel Batista (James Martinez) and Maria Laguerta (Christina Milian) are still around in the original Dexter, there's no way they could have killed Jimmy Powell.

Most of Dexter's serial killers also have some kind of personal connection to Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson), so it seems likely that Jimmy's killer is already in the show. Even though there aren't many possibilities for who could have killed Jimmy,...

‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Episode 5 Recap: Will Dex Kill Levi Reed?
Image
The fifth episode of Dexter: Original Sin picks up from where the previous episode ended. At night, Anthony Moretti, aka Mad Dog, the famed hitman suspected of killing more than 200 people, managed to break free of Dexter’s captivity and ran out of his own house to seek help. Dex knew that he’d made a blunder and therefore followed Mad Dog when suddenly a truck hit him and killed him on the spot. Dex knew that Miami Metro would be on its way, which was why he had only 12-15 minutes to wipe the evidence from Mad Dog’s house. Using the tools borrowed from the forensic department, Dex quickly removed the trace of him ever being there. But you see, even though Mad Dog was dead, it wasn’t Dex who killed him, meaning his hunger wasn’t satisfied, and therefore Dex needs to find a new target as quickly as possible.

Dexter: Original Sin episode 3 recap and review: Miami Vice
Image
Episode 3 of Dexter: Original Sin is hands-down the best of the series so far. Titled "Miami Vice", the episode continues creating tension as it introduces legacy character Maria Laguerta, exposes more revelations about Harry and Deb, and sees Dexter stalk, capture, and take down his second victim while attempting to navigate a love interest. In case you missed it, here's a detailed recap and review of what went down. Spoilers Below.

Maria Laguerta arrives at Miami Metro. Photo Credit: Patrick Wymore/Paramount+ with Showtime. Maria Laguerta makes an entrance at Miami Metro

It's been awesome to see Dexter character favorites in this prequel, such as Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu) and Det. Angel Batista (James Martinez). Episode 3 ups the ante and shows us the moment when Maria Laguerta (Christina Milian) first arrived at Miami Metro.

She makes quite the entrance, right on the heels of the media frenzy around the Jimmy Powell case.

Why Dexter Is Really So Affected By The Kid's Severed Finger In Original Sin Season 1 Episode 2
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 2!At the end of Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 2, Dexter finds himself surprisingly angered by the sight of a child’s severed finger, which ties back to childhood trauma that he won’t remember for another 15 years. With Dexter: Original Sin’s timeline bringing the story back to Dexter’s very first kills in 1991, the prequel includes numerous instances of foreshadowing and set-up for the future revelations that he’ll have in the main series. Much of this has to do with the origins of his Dark Passenger, which he finally discovers through the Ice Truck Killer in Dexter season 1.

Dexter getting his Dark Passenger as a child led to him becoming oddly excited about death, blood, and gore. Dexter: Original Sin’s main character even calls himself a “kid in a candy store” when looking through images of unsolved murders.

Dexter: Original Sin Episode 2 & 3 Review: Christina Milian Saves the Show
Image
The following contains major spoilers from Dexter: Original Sin Episodes 2 & 3, "Kid in a Candy Store" & "Miami Vice," now streaming on Paramount+. It also contains discussion of violence involving children.

After a lackluster premiere, Dexter: Original Sin justifies its existence with Season 1, Episodes 2 & 3, "Kid in a Candy Store" and "Miami Vice." The two are released together on Paramount+ in what seems like a strange move, but works in the prequel's favor, because the two are really one story. And while many of the issues from the series premiere are still very present, at least now Original Sin has a narrative of its own.

"Kid in a Candy Store" and "Miami Vice" follow Dexter Morgan's first days at Miami Metro, while introducing a subplot about Jimmy Powell, the young son of a local judge. While everyone worries about Jimmy's abduction, Dexter finds his second victim in the form of a loan shark named Tony Ferrer.

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episodes 2 & 3 Recap: Dexter's Second Kill & 11 Other Story Reveals
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episodes 2 & 3.Season 1 of Dexter: Original Sin continued the story of Dexter Morgan's (Patrick Gibson) early days at Miami Metro homicide, but it also shed some light on the rest of the Morgan family's past as well. As a prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin doesn't show the titular serial killer at his best. Dexter is still very early into his career and well shy of his massive kill count in Dexter, and he clearly experienced some growing pains at the start of his killing journey. Original Sin season 1, episodes 2 & 3 dove even deeper into Dexter's struggles with his second victim.

Outside of Dexter's murderous tendencies, Original Sin also had quite a few reveals for the rest of the show's cast. The new episodes dove deeper into Harry Morgan's (Christian Slater) past, and they also gave Debra (Molly Brown...
