It’s hard to believe that it’s been three years since special effects man Paul Hyett exploded onto the horror landscape with The Seasoning House, a brutal look at the horrors of war that divided audiences with its harrowing depictions of rape, torture and murder. Cut to 2015 and Hyett returns to the directors chair for Howl. A traditional… werewolf movie? And one penned by a writing duo who, until now, have been best known for their work in children’s television, in particular the likes of Thomas & Friends, Tree Fu Tom and Peter Rabbit. It sounds like an odd combination, one that shouldn’t work. But it does.

Ben Wheatley's third movie is an at-times uneasy combination of British naturalism, comedy and total gore on a caravan holiday
Ben Wheatley is the outstanding young British film-maker who got himself talked about with his smart debut Down Terrace; then he scared the daylights out of everyone, as well as amusing and baffling them, with his inspired and ambiguous chiller Kill List. His talent and signature are vividly present in every frame of this new movie, Sightseers, a grisly and Ortonesque black comedy about a lonely couple who go on a caravanning holiday in Yorkshire: Chris and Tina, played by co-writers Steve Oram and Alice Lowe.
Sightseers is funny and well made, but Wheatley could be suffering from difficult third album syndrome: this is not as mysterious and interesting as Kill List; its effects are more obvious and the encounters between the naturalistically conceived antiheroes and the incidental, sketch-comedy...

The cast of Emmerdale are reportedly becoming displeased with the show's 'tacky' and 'unsuitable' storylines. One scene which recently caused controversy among the cast and crew during filming saw Douglas Potts (Duncan Preston) itching his groin in the village shop after catching a sexually transmitted infection. An Emmerdale source told The Mirror: "This has to be the tackiest soap story of all time. "Duncan was horrified. His character has casual sex, ends up getting crabs and is seen scratching himself in the corner shop. How can this possibly be suitable for a 7pm audience? Duncan is a top actor and it is terrible (more)...
