Who doesn’t love a good sports movie? Or a life-affirming feel-good film? And what’s better than a feel-good sports drama? Nothing much really. But what if that film is based on a true story, making it even more uplifting? Good god, it’s enough to make a grown man cry.

American Underdog fulfils all those qualities and more, telling the inspirational true story of Kurt Warner (Zachary Levi) and the years of challenges and setbacks that could have derailed his aspirations to become an NFL player – but just when his dreams seemed all but out of reach, it is only with the support of his wife,...

Melvin Gregg, Bradley Whitford, Alice Braga & Danielle Campbell To Star In Ira Rosensweig’s Debut Feature ‘Share’
Image
Exclusive: Melvin Gregg (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale), Alice Braga (The Suicide Squad) and Danielle Campbell (Tell Me a Story) have signed on to star in Share, an innovative sci-fi pic from The Traveling Picture Show Company, Wavemaker Creative and award-winning commercial director Ira Rosensweig.

Scripted by Benjamin Sutor, Rosensweig’s debut feature follows a man who awakens to find himself stripped of all his possessions, and trapped in a bare room. Aided by a primitive computer, he must learn to survive in his new isolated existence where entertainment is the only currency.

While the actors’ roles have not been disclosed, we hear the indie will be brought to life using “unique and immersive” filmmaking techniques. Given that each character in the story is physically isolated, the shoot (which is currently underway) called for the construction of multiple identical sets with integrated camera systems,...

The Dark and the Wicked Trailer Reveals New Horrors from The Strangers Director
Image
We have the first trailer for The Dark & The Wicked. This is the latest from director Bryan Bertino, which was recently picked up for distribution by Rlje Films and Shudder just ahead of its debut at this year's digital version of the Fantasia Film Festival. They made quick work of getting a trailer out in the world following the acquisition. And, based on the trailer, it's not hard to see why, as this looks to be a chilling, mysterious and horror-filled flick.

The trailer picks up with a woman on a seemingly isolated farm at night, peacefully humming a tune to herself. Peaceful though it may be, there is an ominous feel in the air. We quickly discover why, as things don't pan out well for her. In the aftermath of her death, a mystery begins to unravel. There is a great deal of unsettling imagery and unexplained happenings, with...

The Dark and the Wicked Is Coming Next from The Strangers Director Bryan Bertino
The Strangers writer-director Bryan Bertino's new nightmare The Dark & the Wicked has just snagged it's cast in the form of Marin Ireland (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Michael Abbott Jr. (The Death of Dick Long), and Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead). Bertino's new film follows the tale of terror centering on two siblings who are summoned back to the family farm to await the inevitability of their father's death, and what initially appears to be a timeless ritual of loss and remembrance turns out to be something very different.

While this has not been confirmed, I can only imagine that Ireland and Abbott Jr. will be playing the siblings mentioned above while Berkeley will be portraying the family patriarch at the end of his life. But again, this has not been confirmed at this time.

One of the main reasons I'm excited about today's news is the inclusion of actor Xander Berkeley.

Divine Access (2015)
Interview: Steven Chester Prince Talks Divine Access (Exclusive)
Divine Access (2015)
Challenging your long unwavering beliefs, particularly in regards to spirituality, can be a surprisingly endearing process for those who are determined to find the reasons for their existence. While the idea of exploring new ideas can be a harrowing one to some people at first, the importance of finding acceptance and guidance in subjects they never expected can become a more fulfilling achievement for them than remaining content in their previously predictable environment. That’s certainly the case with the protagonist in the new comedy-drama, ‘Divine Access,’ which was co-written, directed and produced by Steven Chester Prince, and is now playing in select theaters and on VOD. ‘Divine Access’ follows Jack [ Read More ]

Divine Access Review
Divine Access doesn’t hold any almighty answers to questions of existence, mainly because it doesn’t have to. Filmmaker Steven Chester Prince isn’t here to expose religion, but to investigate a flock’s mentality through the vision of one enlightened soul. In a very Don Verdean kind of way, this is a redemptive story about false prophets, and the power that holy command holds over people. It’s concerned with questions of how we choose to find meaning in the most simple, straight-forward acts of living that couldn’t Possibly be misconstrued (or so you’d think). You’ll laugh, cringe, and hopefully think a little bit, mostly about how living your life is a lot more important than worrying about what comes next. Praise be to – well – whoever!

Billy Burke stars as Jack Harriman, a southern slacker who spends his time wooing women through higher means of manipulation.

'Boyhood 2' May Happen Says Richard Linklater
Ellar Coltrane in Boyhood (2014)
Much has been made of the 12-year journey that filmmaker Richard Linklater embarked on to make Boyhood, where audiences literally saw Mason (Ellar Coltrane) grow up before their very eyes on screen. Ever since the film debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, the filmmaker has said that he isn't interested in making a sequel, but during an interview with The Q&A Podcast, Richard Linklater admitted he is warming up to the idea of a Boyhood 2. Here's what he had to say below.

"To be honest... this film first met its audience exactly a year ago and for the first six months of the year, my answer to that was absolutely not. This was twelve years, it was first grade through 12th grade; it was about getting out of high school. I had no idea about another story, there's nothing to say. It hadn't crossed my mind. But I don't...

Ellar Coltrane in Boyhood (2014)
'Boyhood' Will Connect to Next Richard Linklater Movie
Ellar Coltrane in Boyhood (2014)
Director Richard Linklater's Boyhood has been getting high praise ever since its initial release back in July, and it remains a top Oscar contender as awards season starts to heat up heading into the new year. Next up for the filmmaker is That's What I'm Talking About, which recently wrapped shooting, and has been described as a "spiritual sequel" to his 1993 hit Dazed and Confused, but, as it turns out, the film is also connected to Boyhood as well.

We first reported on the project back in 2009, when the director mentioned that the story would be set during the 1980s, following four college freshmen adjusting to life on campus while trying to make the baseball team. During an interview with Creative Screenwriting, Richard Linklater revealed how That's What I'm Talking About is 'a continuation of Boyhood.'

"Well, I think the word "spiritual" gets me off the hook. I...

’21 Years: Richard Linklater’ is more entertaining than must-see
21 Years: Richard Linklater

Directed by Michael Dunaway and Tara Wood

Written by Michael Dunaway and Tara Wood

USA, 2014

Most filmgoers don’t know Richard Linklater’s name but his effect has been felt through the American independent film scene since the debut of Slacker in 1991. For the star-studded cast of commenters sitting down for some insights into Linklater, it’s hard to imagine a world without him. He is the unicorn who managed to build an entire career of passion projects, a rare opportunity indeed.

Written and directed by Michael Dunaway and Tara Wood, 21 Years: Richard Linklater seeks perspectives on one of cinema’s most underrated directors via interviews and stories shared by notable filmmakers Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy, Jack Black, Keanu Reeves, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Reitman, Kevin Smith, the Duplass brothers, and Matthew McConaughey. To provide a unique spin on talking heads, Dunaway and Wood splice in animated...

Writer-Director Linklater's Boyhood Is 'Conceptually Briliant'
‘Boyhood’ movie review: Richard Linklater has created ‘conceptually brilliant new film’ (photo: Ellar Coltrane in ‘Boyhood’) Director Richard Linklater once said, “The most unique property of cinema is how it lets you mold time, whether it’s over a long or a very brief period.” Indeed, time — and our relationship to it both philosophically and practically — has been an ongoing theme in Linklater’s work over the course of his now lengthy career, and it is once again at the center of the writer-director’s conceptually brilliant new film, which took more than twelve years to nurture: Boyhood. When we first meet Mason (Ellar Coltrane), he’s six years old and living with his mother (Patricia Arquette) and sister (Lorelei Linklater, the filmmaker’s daughter) in a small town in Texas; his dad (Ethan Hawke) is a better-than-average weekend-warrior of an absentee father. Mason is a quirky kid with an...

The Quiet Ones - Witness the Film's True Events
This weekend's horror offering, Hammer's The Quiet Ones (review), is supposedly based upon true events. So we figured we'd look around and come up with the actual video of said events. Curious? Take a look!

The film draws inspiration from the Philip Experiment of 1972, in which Canadian academic researchers tried to prove that telekinesis, poltergeists, and the like manifest solely through the human mind.

A quick trip to YouTube yielded some fruits for us paranormal-loving souls. The video you see below contains actual footage from the aforementioned experiment, and honestly? It's pretty damned interesting. Check it out, and tell us what you make of it!

The Quiet Ones is written and directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) and stars Jared Harris ("Mad Men," The Ward), Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Erin Richards ("Breaking In," "Being Human"), Olivia Cooke ("The Secret of Crickley Hall," "The...
