Boop! The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, July 13, producers announced today. The show will have played 25 previews and 112 regular performances.

The musical is the fourth Broadway production — after Smash, Real Women Have Curves and Dead Outlaw — to announce an early close after coming up empty at the Tony Awards earlier this month.

Featuring the Tony-nominated breakout star Jasmine Amy Rogers in the title role, Boop! began previews March 11 and opened to lukewarm reviews (except for the widely praised Rogers) on April 5 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

The production, capitalized for up to $26 million (which it has not recouped), struggled at the box office, with attendance usually below the 80% mark of the Broadhurst’s capacity. For the week ending June 22, the show grossed a below-break-even $602,017 with a very modest...

Boop! The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on July 13.

The closing announcement is the fourth new musical in the past several weeks, following Smash, Dead Outlaw and Real Women Have Curves. All are new musicals that came to Broadway this spring, that were hoping for boosts from the Tony Awards, but did not take home any trophies.

Boop star Jasmine Amy Rogers was nominated for a Tony Award this year, and the show also received nods for best costume design and best choreography.

The musical, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, opened at the Broadhurst Theater April 5, after starting previews March 11.

The show received mixed to positive reviews for the storyline that reimagines the cartoon character come to life in modern day New York. Rogers was highlighted as a standout, and she won the Drama Desk Award for outstanding lead performance, an award which she shared with Gypsy’s Audra McDonald.

Jasmine Amy Rogers grew up feeling like a cartoon character. “My voice for a kid my age was a little lower than all the rest of the girls,” she says, “but it was also very, very raspy and also a little squeaky, and so people always used to tell me that I sounded like a cartoon character.”

Who better then to give life to Betty Boop, the intoxicating character that gives Boop! The Musical its name, that classic cartoon Jazz Age flapper with the funny voice and a head big and round enough to convey innocence and sophistication, flirtatiousness and humor. In an era when women were testing norms – and undue modesty was the first to go – Betty was star and a 1930s sensation, with legs for days, a bob as short as her dress and heels impossibly high, a New Modern Woman who proved popular with children and adults alike.

At 95 years of age, an incredibly spry Betty Boop has made her Broadway debut. The iconic cartoon character introduced in 1930 has made the leap from page to stage featuring newcomer Jasmine Amy Rogers in the title role. Boop! The Musical bowed at the Broadhurst Theatre on April 6.

Boop! features a book by Tony winner Bob Martin, direction and choreography by two-time winner and Isabelle Stevenson Award recipient Jerry Mitchell, music and lyrics by David Foster and Tony nominee Susan Birkenhead, and an ensemble of 25, including Tony winner Faith Prince. In the musical, Boop’s grandfather transports the iconic cartoon from her monochromatic world to contemporary New York City, where she must navigate her new connections in the real world and those in the cartoon universe, which is lost without her.

Boop! The Musical is beginning performances on Broadway Tonight (March 11) and the production has released a video of Jasmine Amy Rogers performing the show’s stunning closing song.

The 26-year-old rising star is playing Betty Boop in the highly anticipated musical featuring music by David Foster, marking his Broadway debut.

Principal casting for the new Broadway musical Boop! The Musical was announced today, with Jasmine Amy Rogers and Faith Prince set to reprise their well-reviewed performances from last year’s Chicago engagement.

Rogers will play Betty Boop and Prince will portray the character Valentina. The musical, which begins previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on on March 11, 2025, with an official opening on April 5, will also feature other members of the Chicago cast, including Ainsley Melham as Dwayne, Erich Bergen as Raymond, Stephen DeRosa as Grampy, Anastacia McCleskey as Carol, Angelica Hale as Trisha, Phillip Huber (Pudgy the Dog), and Aubie Merrylees as Oscar.

Rob Marshall is in talks to direct a film adaptation of Frank Loesser’s “Guys and Dolls,” the classic Broadway musical and 1955 film of the same name, for TriStar Pictures, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are in talks to write the screenplay with Marshall and John DeLuca. John Goldwyn, Marc Toberoff and Marc Platt are producing with Marshall and DeLuca.

Previously, the studio purchased the rights to the original short stories written by Damon Runyon that inspired the musical, to the Broadway musical book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and its music by Loesser, as well as the remake rights to the ’55 film “Guys and Dolls” as released by the Samuel Goldwyn Company.

Runyon originally wrote the short stories “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown,” “Pick the Winner” and “Blood Pressure” about a gambler and his relationship with a missionary girl.

Rob Marshall is rockin’ the boat!

The “Chicago” director is in talks to helm the remake of “Guys and Dolls” for Sony’s TriStar Pictures. Marshall and John DeLuca will write the script with John Requa & Glenn Ficarra.

John Goldwyn, Marc Toberoff and Marc Platt will produce alongside Marshall and DeLuca, while TriStar president Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi will oversee the project for the studio.

Bill Condon was previously attached to direct the film back in 2021.

Sony purchased remake rights in 2019 for the original Damon Runyon short stories about gamblers and gangsters, as well as the rights to the Broadway musical The studio also acquired remake rights to the previous 1955 film adaptation from the Samuel Goldwyn company.

Billy Eichner is finally getting to live out his childhood dream of a being in a major stage musical.

The “Bros” star is making his Hollywood Bowl singing debut this weekend during “The Lion King’s” 30th anniversary live-to-film concert.

“We just had our first official rehearsal all together this morning,” Eichner told me Wednesday afternoon. “The scope and size of it really knocked me out. If I can get through it, I think it’s going to be really fun.”

Boop! The Betty Boop Musical will have its world premiere production in Chicago at the end of the year and full casting has been announced!

Newcomer Jasmine Amy Rogers is taking on the lead role of Betty Boop.

“Those are huge shoes to fill, but I’m in such a great company. I have so many people around me that are helping me find her and bring her to life, and so it’s really, really exciting,” she told the Associated Press.

Tony winner Faith Prince, Madam Secretary actor Erich Bergen, Aladdin‘s Ainsley Melham, Boardwalk Empire‘s Stephen DeRosa, and Waitress actress Anastacia McCleskey round out the lead cast for the upcoming pre-Broadway run.

The music for the show was written by 16-time Grammy-winning composer David Foster and Tony-nominated lyricist Susan Birkenhead. The show features a book by Tony-winning writer Bob Martin, best known for The Drowsy Chaperone and The Prom.

Michael McGrath, the veteran stage actor who received a Tony Award for his performance in the musical Nice Work If You Can Get It, has died. He was 65.

McGrath died unexpectedly in his sleep Thursday at his home in Bloomfield, New Jersey, his publicist told The Hollywood Reporter. No cause of death has been determined.

A regular in Broadway and off-Broadway musicals and musical comedy productions, McGrath had starring turns in Plaza Suite, Tootsie, Memphis, Born Yesterday and Wonderful Town. He was also the first actor to play Patsy, King Arthur’s long-suffering sidekick, in Spamalot, which earned him his first Tony nomination.

“Very saddened to hear that Michael McGrath, our first and most beloved Patsy in Spamalot, has passed away,” Idle wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Warm hugs to all the Spamalot family and very happy memories of a lovely man.”

McGrath was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Sept.

A veteran of stage and screen, Tony winner Jane Krakowski returns to “Schmigadoon!”

In the second season of Apple TV+’s musical series, Krakowski plays Bobbie, a trial lawyer who sings and dances while roller-skating blindfolded, holding sparklers in her hands and doing splits and flipping around on a trapeze bar.

“We tried to pick things I mostly already knew how to do, except trapeze. So, I was allowed to go to trapeze school for like a week and grab five lessons before we filmed,” Krakowski told Variety on the red carpet at Thursday’s FYC event in Los Angeles.

Krakowski’s number, filmed very quickly over two days was cinematographer John Coffin’s favorite. “She was unbelievable and so gung-ho. It was sort of infectious,” Coffin said.

According to Deadline, Monarch has been canceled after one season.

The news dropped just one day after the Monarch Season 1 finale, which was another shocking hour of the Country Music drama series.

Monarch launched in the fall, despite being initially set to premiere much earlier this year.

At the time of the delay, Fox noted that it wanted to give the show more time for promotion.

The series debuted with a football lerad-in back in early September with 4 million viewers and a 0.91 rating, with the premiere going on to reach much higher numbers with encores and delayed viewing factored in.

Unfortunately, the show failed to garner much traction in its regular Tuesdays at 9 p.m. time period, with the series overall averaging 1.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating

The finale on Tuesday managed 1.6 million viewers and a 0.2 rating.

Exclusive: Kristin Chenoweth (Schmigadoon!), Kenny Ortega (Julie and the Phantoms) and producers Alan Powell, Steve Barnett and Vicky Patel of Monarch Media are teaming for the docuseries 1300 Miles to Broadway. Inspired by Chenoweth’s Broadway Bootcamp, the series introduces 8th to 12th graders to the world of performing arts through master classes in acting, singing and dancing, and goes on the emotional journey with them as they prepare for a future as performers.

Chenoweth launched Broadway Bootcamp at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center in her Oklahoma hometown of Broken Arrow in 2015, to give talented local kids a taste of real Broadway talent, working with them one-on-one. She brought Broadway director, actor and producer Richard Jay-Alexander into the fold four years ago to strengthen the program. All editions of the camp have taken place in-person with the exception of 2021’s, which was held virtually amidst the pandemic, with kids from 33 states and 8 countries participating.

The 2021-2022 Broadway season has been quite a busy one for actor Brandon J. Dirden. First he appeared opposite Phylicia Rashad in Manhattan Theatre Club’s presentation of Dominique Morisseau‘s play “Skeleton Crew” this past winter. Now he can be seen in Second Stage Theater’s revival of Richard Greenberg‘s 2003 Tony-winning play “Take Me Out.” After having previously appeared in award-winning Broadway productions of “Clybourne Park” (2012), “All the Way” (2014), and “Jitney” (2017), will either of Dirden’s two main stem appearances from this past year make him a first-time Tony nominee?

In “Skeleton Crew,” Dirden played Reggie, the manager of one of the last auto stamping plants in Detroit. The company is on shaky ground and the workers have to make choices about how to move forward if their plant goes under. All the while Reggie is torn between doing right by his work family and the red tape in his office.

Fox’s upcoming musical drama Monarch will get some Tony-winning talent, as Broadway’s Faith Prince has been set to join the cast in a major recurring role. She will appear opposite stars Susan Sarandon, Anna Friel, Trace Adkins and Beth Ditto.

Created by Melissa London Hilfers, Monarch is described as a Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music, the Romans. The Romans are headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman (Sarandon). Along with her beloved husband Albie (Adkins), Dottie has created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (Friel) will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.

IMDb TV released the official trailer for courtroom series “Judy Justice.” The new series premieres Nov. 1 and marks the judge’s return to the televised bench.

The reality court program, presided over by Judge Judy Sheindlin, adjudicates real-life cases filed from all over the country. Joining Judge Sheindlin in the courtroom are bailiff Kevin Rasco, a retired Los Angeles probation officer and entrepreneur; stenographer Whitney Kumar, a board-certified California court reporter; and Sarah Rose, a law clerk and Judge Sheindlin’s granddaughter.

Set in Depression-era New York, the story centres on a high roller and a small-time gambler as they try to lock down a date and a location for a floating craps game.

The story was most famously brought to life in the 1955 film adaptation that starred Frank Sinatra as Nathan Detroit and the one and only Marlon Brando as Sky Masterton. The adapted stageplay was the birth home of musical classics such as ‘Luck Be A Lady’, ‘Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat’ and ‘A Bushell and a Peck’.

In 1992, the revival, starring Nathan Lane and Faith Prince, was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won three, including best direction for a musical and best performance by a leading actress.

Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct a film adaptation of “Guys and Dolls,” the classic Broadway musical and 1955 film of the same name, for TriStar Pictures, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

John Goldwyn and Marc Toberoff are set to produce the new adaptation for TriStar. Execs Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi are overseeing for the studio.

In 2019, TriStar purchased the rights to the original short stories written by Damon Runyon that inspired the musical, as well as the Broadway musical book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and its music by Frank Loesser. The studio also bought the remake rights to the 1955 film “Guys and Dolls,” as released by the Samuel Goldwyn Company.

Bill Condon, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind “Chicago,” “Dreamgirls” and Disney’s remake of “Beauty and the Beast,” is taking on another famed movie musical.

Condon has signed on to direct “Guys and Dolls,” an adaptation of Frank Loesser’s Broadway smash. TriStar Pictures, which operates under Sony, acquired rights in 2019 to Damon Runyon’s original short stories about gamblers and gangsters in the New York underworld, as well as the rights to the Broadway musical and Samuel Goldwyn’s 1995 film adaptation.

“Guys and Dolls” opened on Broadway in 1950, where it ran for 1,200 performances over three years. It scored five Tony Awards, including the prize for best musical, and has been revived several times since, including a 1992 version with Nathan Lane and Faith Prince. Five years after premiering on the Great White Way, “Guys and Dolls” was made into a successful film starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.

Lifetime has set “The Christmas Set Up,” its first-ever Christmas movie centered on a gay couple, which will air as part of the cable channel’s slate of 30 new holiday films this year.
