Phir Hera Pheri, released six years after the cult comedy Hera Pheri, did what the forthcoming Part of the Franchise couldn’t: it brought Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar together. In case anyone had forgotten the first part Phir Hera Pheri serves up constant and whopping reminders of what once was.

To writer-director Neeraj Vora’s credit, he succeeds in establishing a sense of continuity between the first part and the new edition of the Hera Pheri series (we presume it’s a series because the film ends on an open note). The three protagonists, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, are still bumbling through what looks like a labyrinth of mind-boggling zigs and zags. Their bickering is still school-boyish but noisily entertaining.

15 years of Bumm Bumm Bole! Time really does fly. Shooting for it right after Taare Zameen Par was such a memorable experience. I was still quite young, and everything felt new and exciting. I wouldn’t say I got “star treatment” in the typical sense—but yes, there was definitely a sense of familiarity and warmth from the crew after Tzp. I felt looked after, and that made a huge difference.

What was it like being directed by Priyadarshan?

Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan is reportedly set to make a Hindi remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam thriller, Oppam, with Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, reports Filmfare. The original Oppam (2016), starring Mohanlal, was scripted and directed by Priyadarshan. It was based on a story by Govind Vijayan. But how many of you knew the film was inspired by two other films, one from Hollywood and another from Hallyuwood (Korea)?

At least, that’s what Wikipedia and other sources claim. And we can’t blame these sources, because Priyadarshan has a history of adapting Hollywood films. To determine whether Oppam was a direct copy or simply inspired, we watched all three films: Oppam, the Hollywood film Cape Fear (1991), and the Korean film Blind (2011). Let’s start our analysis with Cape Fear. Notably, this film doesn’t feature any blind characters.

For a long time, Priyadarshan has wanted to work with Saif. They have finally zeroed in on a script that they both like—and it is Not a comedy but a thriller.

Majid Majidi’s chronicles of humanism, whether it is Father (1996), Children Of Heaven (1997), The Color Of Paradise (1999), The Willow Tree (2005) or the Song Of Sparrows (2008), they all sing a melody of oneness and kinship. The kinship among the downtrodden is always shown to be special and indelible in Majid Majidi’s cinema. Here in Beyond The Clouds, it is the profound bonding between a brother and a sister that gives a centre to the plot.

Sibling bonding has been big in Bollywood since Choti Bahen in 1952 and Raakhi in 1959. We haven’t had a vital brother-sister bonding story since Pyari Behna in 1995 and Bandhan in 1998. In Beyond The Clouds, Majid Majidi’s protagonists are siblings, played by Ishan Khattar and Malavika Mohanan. And neither has a love interest in the plot.
