Iron Sky - There Was a Story Featurette
In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During the following 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis constructed a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers. Their plan: travel back to Earth and re-colonize the planet. And in the not-too-distant future, mankind's greatest enemy is no longer history as the Reich strikes back in this eagerly-anticipated worldwide box office phenomenon which has enjoyed a U.S. theatrical release in over 75 markets,...

Despite the bizarre awesomeness of the whole thing, I laid off posting the first teaser for Iron Sky, mainly because, well, it's a trailer for a movie that doesn't exist. But then again, it's not like that stopped me before, so what the hell.
The story of Iron Sky is a weird one. The film is a low-brow, high-concept one about a secret Nazi base on the moon that's been hidden since WWII, and now the Nazis are back in force and invading the earth. And, I have to admit, that sounds pretty awesome if handled with a tongue in cheek... though not too much so. The trailers are mainly pre-production production footage, shot basically in an effort to garner funding, which the film is apparently sorely lacking. In fact, the second trailer concludes with a solicitation for money.
Strange, eh?
Here's the official synopsis:

Time for our yearly update on the progress of the Outer Space Nazi's. Some new footage, some bombastic music, and of course the obligatory swastika space station. Yes you are still excited about this (see our extensive archives on this project.) You know it to be true.
(via Quiet Earth and Opium)
Towards the end of World War II, in 1945, the SS officer Hans Kammler's staff made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity research. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late '45, and they founded the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the so-called dark side of the Moon. The purpose of this base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.
[A quick update on this from Cannes, where the director showed me an in-progress version of the trailer before it went online. First, for those of you skeptical whether the film will ever happen, they are going into production in September. This is a real movie, it's cast, they have the large majority of the budget and all of the cast in place. It's happening. Second, this particular footage comes from a test shoot originally intended to test their workflow from shooting on green screen through to finished product. It was originally intended for internal viewing only but came out so well that they decided to release it to the masses. Third, the 'Give Us Your Money' line at the end of the teaser isn't really a joke. To make up the small remaining shortfall in their budget, the producers are giving fans the chance to directly invest in the film, at minimum increments of one thousand Euros. Investment at different levels brings different benefits. Read the press release below and follow the links for more info. - Todd.]

In 1945, the Nazis went to the moon. In 2018, they’re coming back. But you won’t have to wait that long to see them try to take over the world once again, as Nazis are wont to do. Timo Vuorensola’s “Iron Sky”, a sci-fi action/comedy is headed your way in 2010, but since it’s a Finnish/German production, you’re probably looking at an import DVD release here, folks. Check out the film’s very stylish first trailer. I love the music, and the visuals are pretty incredible, though you don’t get the sense this is a comedy. Then again, it’s about Nazis from the moon so what else could it be? The Nazis set up a secret base on the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018. Starring Udo Kier, Julia Dietze, Götz Otto, and Tilo Prückner. Timo Vuorensola,...

Motion posters are the latest cool gimmick in online film advertising and we've got one for you here that you might not have seen before. It is for an independent science fiction film, Iron Sky, that yours truly has been tracking for some time.
Iron Sky is being produced in Finland by Energia Productions. Energia was started by the makers of the Star Wreck series of Star Trek spoofs. The most recent such film, Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning, is reckoned to be Finland's most successful film because it has been legally downloaded from the Internet more than 8 million times. A special edition was recently released on DVD in Britain.
Energia's new film is a departure from the Star Wreck series. In the plot of Iron Sky it is 2018 and a group of Nazis that escaped to the Moon at the end of the Second World War are planning a triumphant return.

You may have heard of Nazi Zombies, but you have you heard of Lunar Nazis?!
Prepare yourselves, for this is going to be awesome: Iron Sky is a Finnish film from the folks who created the Star Trek spoof, Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning and is described as a dark science fiction comedy that plays with Finland’s history of being oppressed by Sweden, Russia and the Nazis.
The story of the film, as described but its official website goes as follows:
Towards the end of World War II the staff of SS officer Hans Kammler made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity.
From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon. This base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.

About a half hour ago a press release hit my email box from Finnish production company, Blind Spot Pictures. On the surface the project they're touting looked to be the next installment of the growing Nazi Horror/Nazi Zombie trend. In reality, it's much more impressive. Iron Sky is a cross-genre project with the tagline "In 1945 the Nazis fled to the moon. In 2018 they are coming back!" Sounds a tad silly (in a good way) and for a second my Starlog sensor went off and I almost posted this there. Once you see the video below, I think you'll understand why I felt that not sharing this on Fango would be a disservice to all that rocks. It's like the first time that Worst Case Scenario teaser hit the web - only better.
What initially hooked me was the "motion poster" that appears on the splash page for their 2009 Cannes...
