10 Disney Movies That Spoiled Their Own Endings
Image
Disney has acquired a reputation for crafting beautiful narratives from beginning to end. Known for their effective unfolding of events, Disney films have impeccable strength in writing and executing cohesive stories. Some Disney films, however, employ not-so-subtle foreshadowing that indicates to audiences where they might be headed, even in the face of an unexpected journey.

Whether it's a line of dialogue, the use of recurring imagery, or even what might be thought to be a one-off joke, Disney has had their fair share of heavy-handed hints as to where the film will conclude. This isn't always a negative reflection on the story. Sometimes, the inferences audiences make based on what's presented in the film make the ending even more impactful.

10 Oscar-Winning Animated Movies Every Film Buff Needs to See at Least Once
Image
When it comes to The Oscars, it's fair to say that it's one of the most anticipated celebrations in the film industry. For many filmmakers, winning an Oscar is the finest achievement possible, mostly because it's tied with a lot of recognition. Thus, movies like Gone with The Wind and Parasite remain with the audience because they have such a coveted position in the film business.

However, certain critics turn their noses up at animated movies. Although these films secure awards in their own right, they're typically undervalued because they are mostly associated with children. In turn, a lot of film buffs are missing out on the best Oscar-winning films of a generation.

10 Best Animated Movies Of 2024
Image
As the last week of December approaches and viewers prepare for the upcoming animated movies of 2025, it's time to look back at the past year for the best animated movies of 2024. While a recent update about the release window of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse, the current most-anticipated animated movie, practically confirms that there won't be a release date for another 2 years, 2024 has still been very exciting for animation, with the release of sequels to many beloved franchises.

Every animated movie released in 2024 didn't make as big a stir in the box office or among critics as they were supposed to, but there have been some noteworthy surprise hits. While Kung Fu Panda, Inside Out, Moana, and Despicable Me got anticipated sequels, the Transformers franchise branched out into animation, and The Wild Robot got critical and commercial success beyond what anyone had imagined it would.

2024 Helped Disney Get Success Again as It Reached an Important Box Office Milestone
Image
2024 might not have been the biggest year for cinema, but it offered Disney a success story. Following a disappointing 2023, a year the House of Mouse celebrated its 100th anniversary, Disney is now ruling other studios again.

Per Deadline, Disney has reached a major milestone as it became the only studio to reach $2 billion at the domestic box office. Last year, Disney had a string of celebratory films for its 100th anniversary, including Wish, The Haunted Mansion, Pixar's Elemental, and Marvel's Ant-Man and the Quantumania and The Marvels, as well as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Unfortunately, last year registered more losses for Disney, but 2024 came with a lot of magic.

Inside Out Reimagined With Live-Action Concept Trailer
Image
After the immense success of Inside Out 2, a fan-made concept trailer imagines how the story of the franchise would play out in a live-action film. It's the latest video to utilize AI to picture what a live-action adaptation of an animated movie may look like.

The video was posted on YouTube by Multiverse of Movies. It's the same channel that has previously shared live-action movie concept trailers for animated shows like The Simpsons, South Park, and Futurama, as well as video games such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Other Pixar films have also gotten the treatment, including Toy Story and The Incredibles. Similarly, Inside Out has now gotten a concept trailer of its own, which was made with the assistance of AI-generated imagery.

'He Was Really Fun': Inside Out 2 Writer Reveals Another Deleted Villain
Image
Inside Out 2's lineup of deleted emotions gets longer with new reveals from the head creatives. Writer Meg LeFauve dropped another candidate that didn't make the cut, and it's an emotion that would've paired well with Shame.

Writer Meg LeFauve revealed Inside Out 2 almost featured another villain: Schadenfreude, and he's unique because he causes other people to feel anxiety or shame. "Schadenfreude came in and out pretty quick," she told The Direct. "He was really fun. It's a German word for an emotion where you laugh at people's pain. Which is very teenager-y because you don't have a frontal lobe, and it's why we all laugh at pratfalls. Because somebody falls, we laugh; it's funny, right? But why does our brain do that? That's Schadenfreude. But he didn't make it."

What Riley's Deep Dark Secret Is In Inside Out 2
Image
Inside Out 2 ventures further into the depths of Riley's mind and uncovers her Deep Dark Secret. The 2024 animated coming-of-age film, directed by Kelsey Mann and written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, is a sequel to Pixar's hit 2015 movie and picks up one year after Inside Out's ending. Riley becomes a teenager in Inside Out 2, meaning that she hits puberty and experiences several new emotions, including Anxiety, Envy, and Embarrassment. However, when the new emotions move into headquarters, their ideas about what's best for Riley contradict Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger's plans for their girl.

Although Pixar hasn't confirmed it, Inside Out 2's success indicates that the animation studio will produce more sequels (which will hopefully introduce more new emotions).

Soon after its premiere in June 2024, Inside Out 2 broke multiple box office records. Many anticipated that the Pixar sequel would perform well in theaters,...

Four months after its release, its clear that Inside Out 2 was the blockbuster hit that Disney and Pixar desperately needed. The once unstoppable animation studio had a rough couple of years, thanks to a mix of poor marketing, middling audience reception, and a struggle to recapture viewers conditioned to watch a new release on Disney+ rather than going out to the theater. But Inside Out 2 surpassed all expectations; not only did it please both critics and fans of the masterful original, but its now Pixars highest-grossing release ever.

And while it might not attain the utter perfection of the first installment, whats refreshing about Inside Out 2 is its subtle genre shift. As...

George Lucas had a secret cameo in classic horror game Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Image
Zombies Ate My Neighbors might be the greatest horror video game ever. It’s not scary in the traditional sense but no other game better played off of our favorite horror tropes and characters – all without getting slapped with an insane amount of lawsuits. Those evil dolls? Yeah, they’re Chucky. That chainsaw-wielding dude in the hockey mask? Yup, that’s Jason, even though Mrs. Voorhees’ baby boy never used one. From there, we’ve got vampires, werewolves, reptilian men, aliens, giant creatures, pod people, blobs, and more running around neighborhoods, shopping malls, factories, pyramids, castles, and anywhere else you’ve already seen in classic horror flicks. But one figure that pops up at random isn’t exactly known for horror flicks – and that’s George Lucas, whose LucasArts developed the game.

A lot of people don’t know this, but George Lucas actually has a cameo in Zombies Ate My Neighbors,...

10 Best Animated Sequels Of All Time
Image
Animated sequels rarely live up to the standards of the original, especially since many animated classics are left as standalone movies. It's only in the 21st century that animated sequels have become more popular. Before this shift, animated movies were either left untouched or given direct-to-video sequels with little fanfare, as was the case with many Disney classics. The landscape of animated movies is much different now.

The 21st century has seen the rise of long-running animated franchises such as Shrek, Toy Story and Kung Fu Panda. Still, sequels can be tricky business, with studios struggling to come up with storylines as vibrant as those in the original movies. However, there are some exceptions where a sequel can strike upon a brilliant idea. In these cases, some sequels can even improve upon the animated classics which inspired them.

Pixar’s “Cars” have circled back around.

“Cars on the Road,” a connection of interlocking shorts that just premiered on Disney+ as part of the Disney+ Day festivities, follows Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) and Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) as they embark on a cross-country road trip for Mater’s sister’s wedding. ‘Cars on the Road’: How Pixar’s Animated Series Pays Homage to Ray Harryhausen and ‘The Shining’
Image
.

In Pixar’s new animated short-form series, “Cars on the Road” (currently streaming on Disney+), creator/director and animator Steve Purcell puts Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) on a cross-country trek full of cinematic nostalgia. The stops include homages to the stop-motion dinosaurs of Ray Harryhausen, the Overlook Hotel from “The Shining,” and retro sci-fi movies.

“We wanted to send them on a road trip [to the wedding of Mater’s sister], and make it so that each place they stop was its own mini-adventure,” Purcell told IndieWire. “And that afforded us a lot of opportunity to create all these different, interesting locations, each with its own sensibility, style of music.”

Producer Marc Sondheimer added that in spite of the series’ short-form nature, it still contains 65 minutes of content. And it’s tied together in episodic form. “The launch of Disney+ afforded us a different form factor to tell these stories in...

Review: Cars in the ultimate black sheep in the Pixar catalog. A passion project for writer/director John Lasseter, the Cars trilogy of films are the lowest-rated Pixar films according to Rotten Tomatoes. They also happen to be mediocre performers at the box office compared to the rest of Pixar’s output, but the franchise is easily one of the top grossing properties thanks to the instantly marketable toys and merchandising associated with it. After three films, two spin-off movies, and a series of short films, Cars makes its Disney+ debut with Cars on the Road. While Cars on the Road consists of episodes that run ten minutes or less,...

Blu-Ray Review: Toy Story That Time Forgot
Toy Story That Time Forgot was originally aired on ABC December 2, 2014.  It's after Christmas, and Bonnie has a play date with her friend Mason. Mason just got a new video game system, and most people should be able to relate with wanting to play your friend's new [insert whatever system excited you most as a child]. Video games are also brought to light as a potential threat to toys, which they may be. As the Battlesaurs, Mason's toys, are quickly forgotten the old gang we have grown up with enters Mason's room.

This short is a great chapter in the Toy Story anthology that welcomes us back with it's heart and sharp humor. Due to time restraints, things move quickly, which is only odd during some moments with Trixie (Kristen Schaal) and Reptillus Maximus (Kevin McKidd). Of course Buzz and Woody (Tom Hanks and Tim Allen) are present, though a bit more absent than we are accustomed to. It...

10 Reasons Why 'Toy Story That Time Forgot' Is the Must-Watch Christmas Special of the Season
Just because "Toy Story 4" isn't coming out until the summer of 2017, that doesn't mean that your favorite childhood playthings are going to be absent until then. Just this week ABC will premiere "Toy Story That Time Forgot," a new half-hour Christmas special that features the toys in a brand new adventure. When you think of a Christmas special built around the "Toy Story" characters, you probably think that it's going to be something centered around the holiday and the introduction of new toys that come along with it...

But you'd be wrong.

"Toy Story That Time Forgot" is a distinct, wholly original half-hour film, written and directed by animation and comic book vet Steve Purcell that contributes wonderfully to the mythology while taking it in a wholly new direction. It throws preexisting "Toy Story" characters up against a bunch of new toys called the Battlesaurs, an eighties-style brand of gladiatorial combatants.
