How Rogue One Brought Grand Moff Tarkin To Life, 32 Years After Peter Cushing's Death - & Why It Became So Controversial
Image
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story brought Grand Moff Tarkin back to the Star Wars screen despite Tarkin actor Peter Cushing's death in 1994—and it's now become a legal matter. Tarkin was introduced as Darth Vader's right-hand man in A New Hope and is likely best known for his role in destroying Alderaan with the Death Star. Tarkin has appeared in Star Wars movies and TV shows since the original trilogy, including a cameo in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and multiple appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Those appearances were quite distinct from Tarkin's return in Rogue One, however. As The Clone Wars is animated, it did not require Cushing's likeness, and the character was voiced by Stephen Stanton in that show. In Revenge of the Sith, actor Wayne Pygram was able to be recast in the role through the use of...

10 Shows That Tried (& Failed) to Be the Next Star Trek
Image
When Gene Roddenberry first created Star Trek, The Original Series was not a hit. It wasn't until the show hit syndication that it found a second life and spawned two new waves of series and a massive feature film franchise. Since then, many other producers and storytellers have tried to create the next Star Trek, but they were doomed to fail. Some haven't aged well and never made it beyond a single season. Others were unquestionably successful shows, running for more than 100 episodes, spawning spinoffs and companion films.

Though some of these shows have extremely passionate fans, none of them reached the heights that Star Trek did nor are they as bankable a storytelling universe. In its sixth decade, Star Trek is likely Paramount's most profitable franchise and the studio continues to develop new series and films set in that universe. While every series has its merits and is beloved by some fans,...

Why Hasn’t Farscape Been Rebooted Despite its Rabid Fanbase?
Image
Farscape, the Australian Sci-Fi TV show, follows John Crichton's intergalactic adventures with aliens and advanced technology in space battles. Despite its popularity, Farscape was canceled due to high production costs and lack of funding, preventing any official reboot or continuation. Plans for webisodes and a potential movie adaptation have fallen through, but hope remains for a return to TV in the future.

Launched on the SyFy channel on March 19, 1999, Farscape is an Australian Science Fiction TV show produced by The Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment. The premise concerns an eclectic group of astronauts led by John Crichton (Ben Browder) engaging in various intergalactic missions while fighting an authoritarian regime called The Peacekeepers. Farscape remained on the Nine Network for four seasons and 88 episodes, gaining a rabid fanbase before the show was canceled in 2003.

Despite being off the air for nearly 20 years, Farscape has flirted with a small-screen continuation...

Farscape Creator and Star Tell the History of the Show 25 Years Later
Image
There is special Farscape anniversary programming beginning at 2pm today, March 19th. Head to the bottom of the article for links and details.

On March 19, 1999, viewers were introduced to the world of Farscape, a science fiction series inhabited by strange aliens on the other side of the universe. Produced by The Henson Company, Farscape continued the company's celebrated history of creating a magical world peopled with both humans and puppets. Ahead of its time, the series challenged the norms of '90s television by introducing more serialized storytelling and upended many of the common tropes of the time. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Farscape's impact can be found across science fiction storytelling, with a notable impact on massive blockbusters like the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Set in the uncharted territories, Farscape begins on Earth with John Crichton (Ben Browder) in the middle of an experiment when an anomaly thrusts his spacecraft through a wormhole.

Farscape Star Says Sci-Fi Used to Be 'The Ghetto for Actors'
Image
Sci-fi was once looked down upon and relegated to "the ghetto" of media, according to actor Ben Browder, but Farscape helped pave the way for complex, binge-worthy stories that are now common. Farscape was a transitional piece of television that influenced the genre's evolution, showcasing heavy, complicated arcs ahead of its time. Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Farscape with a marathon featuring new interviews and content and classic episodes.

We live in an era where aliens, intergalactic travel, and superpowers are accepted in mainstream blockbusters, but this is honestly a somewhat recent phenomenon. Aside from Star Wars and Amblin Entertainment films, prior to the '90s (and the advent of CGI and digital VFX), sci-fi was generally relegated to B-Movie status, with most 'serious' filmmakers and actors unfortunately avoiding the genre as much as they could. With the MCU, DC movies, and Avatar dominating box offices the past two decades,...

Farscape Cast - Where Are They Now?
Image
The cast of Farscape has had varying levels of visibility in recent years, with some actors landing high-profile roles in big franchises and others pursuing endeavors outside of acting. Wayne Pygram, who played Scorpius, had notable roles in Star Wars Episode III and Lost, but his acting roles in recent years have been sparse. Tammy MacIntosh, who played Jool, has enjoyed a successful career after Farscape, with appearances in shows like All Saints, Sea Patrol, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

The Farscape saga ended in 2004, leaving those who followed the show to wonder what happened to the cast of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars after it was concluded. Farscape is widely heralded as one of the TV sci-fi classics and one of the most influential TV shows from the 2000s when it comes to the space opera genre. A remastered version of the show landed on Prime in 2019. However, some of...

Did You Catch The Inclusion Of Another Classic Villain In Latest Rogue One Spot?
While everyone's hearts are aflutter with the very Darth Vader-heavy TV spot that was just released for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, some may have missed the subtle inclusion of another classic villain from that galaxy far, far away.

There was a blink-and-you-miss-it glimpse at the back of someone's head, and that someone seemed to be Grand Moff Tarkin!

Here's the bit you might have missed in the Rogue One TV spot:

Tarkin first appeared in Star Wars: A New Hope, where he was played by the late, great Peter Cushing.

This won't be the first time that Moff Tarkin has been resurrected for a Star Wars film. When Revenge of The Sith came out in 2005, long after Cushing's death, George Lucas hired actor Wayne Pygram (beneath a ton of makeup) to appear as the character.

We've heard for a while that Tarkin would be appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,...

10 reasons we love Farscape
Feature Juliette Harrisson 4 Jul 2013 - 07:00

In the second of our weekly Farscape look-backs, Juliette tots up ten reasons to love the show, from leather, to Muppets, to Harvey...

This feature contains major Farscape spoilers.

When Farscape was abruptly cancelled at the end of season four, the outcry among its devoted fans was such that the Sci-Fi channel was persuaded to make a mini-series concluding some of the dangling plot threads, and both the lead actors were eventually made regulars in the network’s ultra-successful Stargate Sg-1. What inspired such devotion to a show not written by Joss Whedon, we hear you ask?

Farscape is a high quality drama, with strong writing, great acting, compelling characters and intricate plots. But it is also a truly unique show, full of quirks and existing in a frequently lunatic world all of its own. Here are ten reasons we love it.

1. Muppets! In!
