As fans have been waiting for news of the Ocean's 8 sequel Ocean's 9, Sandra Bullock shared her thoughts on what was needed to make it happen. The film is part of the Ocean's 11 heist movie franchise, which began with the 1960 film about a group of criminals leading an epic heist in Las Vegas. That film was remade in 2001 by Steven Soderbergh with George Clooney as leader Danny Ocean and an ensemble that included Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts. That film wents on to be a huge success, spawning the sequels Ocean's Twelve in 2004 and Ocean's Thirteen in 2007.
In 2018, the franchise was rebooted yet again, with Sandra Bullock starring as Danny Ocean's sister, Debbie Ocean, leading an all-female heist to steal a $150 million necklace at the Met Gala. The film is in continuity with the Soderbergh trilogy, even featuring cameos from Elliott Gould as Reuben and Shaobo Qin as Yen.

Are Don Cheadle, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and the rest of the “Ocean’s” cast readying a reunion? It’s not entirely out of the question based on Cheadle’s latest interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actor reunited with “Ocean’s” director Steven Soderbergh for the upcoming crime movie “No Sudden Move.” The way Cheadle tells it, Soderbergh mentioned during the making of “No Sudden Move” that he’s drawing closer to cracking an idea for the next “Ocean’s” movie.
“We were talking about it [after ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’], and then Bernie [Mac] passed, and very quickly we were like, ‘No, we don’t want to do it,'” Cheadle said. “But I just did a movie with Stephen and he said, ‘I think there may be a way to do it again. I’m thinking about it.’ And it didn’t go much further than that. But I...

We always knew Ocean's 8 was going to connect to the other Ocean's movies somehow. After all, the trailers for the film made it clear that the main character's name is Debbie Ocean, which isn't far off from the Danny Ocean (aka George Clooney) we meet in Ocean's 11, Ocean's 12, and Ocean's 13. And, I mean, we see Danny Ocean's grave as well. That's why it comes as no surprise that this film takes place in the same universe as all the other ones. But if you're wondering how exactly it fits in with its predecessors, we're happy to break it down for you. Here are all the ways, big and small, that Ocean's 8 connects to the original.
The natural starting place, of course, is the man himself: Danny Ocean. We learn very quick that Debbie is the sister of the deceased Danny Ocean, so there really aren't any questions about where she comes from.

Head to the movies this weekend to see Logan Lucky, and you'll see more than Steven Soderbergh ending his moviemaking retirement phase and returning to the big screen. (You've been greatly missed, sir.) You'll see more than just Channing Tatum and Adam Driver playing down-on-their-luck Southern brothers who hatch a plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway. You'll even see more than Daniel Craig sporting a bottle-blond crop-cut hairdo and Seth MacFarlane sporting something on his head that looks like a cross between a mullet, a Jheri curl and roadkill.

When news first broke that George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh were developing an all-female spin-off of the Ocean's Eleven franchise, there was talk that George Clooney could possible return in a cameo as Danny Ocean. The movie was long confirmed to be set in the same universe as the original trilogy, and it was later revealed that Sandra Bullock is actually playing the ex-con sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean. While it is believed that George Clooney won't put in a cameo for this movie, it seems that his co-star Matt Damon is planning on returning as Linus Caldwell.
Entertainment Tonight caught up with Matt Damon at the premiere of Manchester-by-the-Sea, which he produced, where he revealed that he will have a brief part in Ocean's Eight. While he didn't specify that he's coming back as Linus Caldwell, since this movie is set in the same world as the previous trilogy,...

With Ghostbusters launched as a successful all-female franchise for Sony, Warner Bros. is moving full-steam ahead on it's girl-centric Ocean's Eleven reboot. Titled Ocean's Eight and headlined by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, this quasi-sequel will begin shooing in October in New York. Gary Ross will direct.
The caper thriller will feature some of today's leading actresses in secondary roles as they pull off the heist of a lifetime. Previously announced actresses Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling will now be joined by Anne Hathaway, singer Rihanna and Asian American rapper and actress Nora Lum, who many know better as Awkwafina. This comedy reboot is still casting even more high-profile actresses to fill out its powerful roster. According to an earlier report from Deadline, Elizabeth Banks was also interested in taking on a role,...

Sandra Bullock returns to the big screen this weekend with Our Brand Is Crisis, portraying a political campaign strategist, a role that was originally written for her Gravity co-star George Clooney. The actor stayed on to produce that film, and now they are re-teaming for another gender-swapping project, with Sandra Bullock attached to take on George Clooney's lead role in an all-female remake of his 2001 hit Ocean's Eleven. The Playlist reports that this Ocean's Eleven reboot has been in the works for over a year, with Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) signing on to direct.
The project reportedly came together last fall, originated by Ocean's Eleven star George Clooney, director Steven Soderbergh and producer Jerry Weintraub. The trio have enlisted screenwriter Olivia Milch (Queen & Country) to tackle the script, which she has been working on for several months. There was speculation the project might have been delayed, after producer...

The sound of the dice hitting the felt. The rattle and the sparkle of ice cubes in cocktail glasses and diamonds on collar bones. The steely gaze of the high roller and the ripple of playing cards. There’s a timeless glamour and appeal to casinos that carries all the way through from real life onto the big screen.
Lets take a look at some of the movies that capture the magic of the world’s glitziest pleasure palaces, and why exactly they get us so damn excited…

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
This week’s “Question of the Week” on Jeff Bayer’s “Movie B.S.” podcast is inspired by Lawless, a film about three good ‘ol boys (played by Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy, and Jason Clarke) in Virginia’s Franklin County whose bootleggin’ ways in the 1930s are trifled by dirty cops and powerful competition. (I reviewed the film, and you can read that review here!)
This week’s inquiry is, “What is your favorite moment of law-breaking in a movie?”
In my attempt to answer this question, I’m going to choose scenes that are my favorite because of the impression they’ve left on me. Some of these law-breaking moments are fun, some are serious, and some of them are never responded to with justice. These are scenes that left an impact concerning the control of power (or lack thereof), while...

ShoWest honor for Weintraub
Jerry Weintraub will be honored as producer of the year at ShoWest, the annual film industry convention set for March 12-15 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.
Weintraub, whose career ranges from 1975's Nashville through the Karate Kid series in the '80s to the current Ocean's Eleven franchise, will be recognized March 15 at ShoWest's closing-night ceremony.

The Warners/Village Roadshow Pictures production reunites the original cast of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould with director Steven Soderbergh.
