Image
Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday after a massive heart attack. For the first time in 31 years (his last released films were Zimmedaaar and Aag Ka Dariya in 1990), he was gearing up for a new film. He was set to return in Toolsidas Junior, starring Sanjay Dutt.

The Ashutosh Gowariker-produced film has been slated for release this year. Gowariker informs he has wrapped shoot for the production. "Rajiv was so affable and played his part with much fun and ease. Will miss him deeply," he tweeted as condolence. The filmmaker added that he had been "a fan from his Ram Teri Ganga Maili days".

Think Rajiv Kapoor and you are thinking Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The legendary Raj Kapoor cast his youngest son opposite Mandakini in the 1985 film, which went on to be a blockbuster.

In a career that actively spanned less than a decade, Rajiv Kapoor had a...

The Ghosts and Ghouls of Bollywood
From reincarnations to haunted mansions. From vindictive oatmeal faced corpses to shape shifting nagins, Bollywood has bravely offered a plethora of films in the name of horror over the years. Although many of these films may lack in finesse, they still manage to offer some scares (along with a bag of laughs). Siddhant Pillai investigates…

A still from the classic Mahal

In a country obsessed with lost souls and reincarnation, it was natural for filmmakers to dabble in this facet of the supernatural. Perhaps the first path breaking film in this genre was Kamal Amrohi?s 1949 hit, Mahal. The film was replete with a spooky house filled with life size portraits, grandfather clocks, swinging crystal chandeliers and a haunting tune (Aayega Aanewaala) carried by the air and sung by an elusive candle-lit lady. The movie was a box office hit and paved the way...

Era of Scooters in the world of Hindi cinema - Feature
It indeed is one of the apparent paradoxes that while Hollywood cinema did not have any hesitance about its heroes riding on scooter, be it in Roman Holiday or even up to The Bourne Identity the counterparts in Hindi cinema have not been that benevolent to ride the humble scooter inspite of the fact that it has been "chunnu munnu de papa di gaddi". Whenever scooter has been used in Hindi cinema as a matter of convention, it was for humorous situations and its most visible brand ambassador was Rajinder Nath....
