Image
Nicolas Cage is a Hollywood star with a wildly diverse and intense career, and his filmography is anything but ordinary. But somehow, his off-screen life happens to be even more cinematic, with equally unpredictable turns.

For example, his whirlwind romance with Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis Presley, who carried the weight of his legacy on her shoulders. While it was brief, Cage made a shocking admission about it years later. So, here’s everything you need to know about the ex-couple.

Inside Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley’s brief but blazing romance Nicolas Cage in Kick-Ass | Lionsgate

Before their names were tied together, Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley were two artists who were walking on parallel paths. Their worlds collided in October 2000, at punk legend Johnny Ramone’s birthday party, and sparks flew between the two (via InStyle).

At the time, Cage was still married to actress Patricia Arquette,...

Joey Ramone’s Brother Sues Johnny Ramone’s Widow in Ongoing Legal Battle
Image
How did that one song go? Now I wanna sue you too! Maybe not, but the ugly legal battle between the estates of Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone continues, as Mickey Leigh (Joey’s brother) has countersued Linda Cummings-Ramone (Johnny’s widow), claiming she is infringing on the Ramones‘ trademarks and exploiting the band’s legacy.

Back in January, we reported on Linda suing Mickey over the Pete Davidson-led Netflix biopic I Slept with Joey Ramone, which is currently in development and based on Leigh’s memoir of the same. Linda claimed the movie is a “covertly developed an unapproved and unauthorized Ramones-based biopic” that is based on Leigh’s “one-sided recitation of the history of the Ramones.”

Now, Leigh has struck back with his own lawsuit against Linda, calling her a onetime “groupie” who has latched on to the Ramones name. The suit, which Billboard reports...

Fred Armisen Holds “Old Punks” Focus Group on John Mulaney’s Netflix Show
Image
A number of legendary Los Angeles punk rockers appeared on the Tuesday (May 7th) episode of the new Netflix show John Mulaney Presents Everybody’s in L.A. Members of Fear, X, Minutemen, Germs, and more were featured in an “Old Punks” focus group hosted by Fred Armisen.

The focus group included Minutemen members Mike Watt and George Hurley, Fear frontman Lee Ving, X’s Exene Cervenka and DJ Bonebreak, Germs drummer Don Bolles, Avengers leader Penelope Houston, Cramps/Gun Club guitarist Kid Congo Powers, Saccarine Trust’s Joe Baiza, the Plungers’ Trudie Arguelles-Barrett, and Johnny Ramone’s widow Linda Ramone.

The funny segment began with Armisen driving around L.A. and gathering up all the senior punks for a focus group. Once it started, Armisen asked a number of questions like, “What is the punk-est type of food?” To which Linda Ramone answered, “Pizza,” and Ving exclaimed, “Budweiser, the King of Beers!

Johnny Ramone’s Widow Sues Joey Ramone’s Brother Over Pete Davidson-Led Biopic
Image
Long after their passings, the feud between Johnny Ramone and Joey Ramone lives on. Johnny’s widow, Linda Ramone, is suing Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, over the Pete Davidson-led Netflix biopic I Slept With Joey Ramone.

Johnny and Joey notoriously had a cantankerous relationship throughout the existence of the Ramones. In fact, Joey dated Linda before she eventually married Johnny.

The movie, which is currently in development and stars Davidson as Joey, is based on Leigh’s memoir I Slept With Joey Ramone. In her lawsuit, Linda claims that Leigh “covertly developed an unapproved and unauthorized Ramones-based biopic” that is based on his “one-sided recitation of the history of the Ramones,” according to Billboard.

Linda’s attorneys further state, “Ms. Ramone objects to defendants’ attempt to create a Ramones film without her involvement — not to be obstinate, but rather based on defendants’ disregard for [Ramones] assets and their conduct and treatment of Ms.

Ramones Biopic Caught In Crossfire of Heirs’ Clash In Court
Image
A dispute between the heirs to the Ramones’ estates has culminated in a lawsuit, with one side accusing the other of effectively shutting down the company that controls the group’s intellectual property rights while unilaterally greenlighting a biopic of the rock band.

Linda Ramone, widow of Ramones’ guitarist Johnny Ramone, accuses Mitchel Hyman, lead singer Joey Ramone’s brother, of refusing to engage with the band’s record label, merchandising partners or business managers, preventing the company from conducting basic operational tasks while draining it of funds. The lawsuit also alleges Hyman is withholding dividends owed to Ramone “unless and until she accedes” to his “self-serving demands to make fundamental changes” at the company.

The complaint, filed in New York’s state Supreme Court on Jan. 19, states Hyman “covertly developed an unapproved and unauthorized Ramones-based biopic, used Ramones IP across their own personal social media accounts without permission, and disparaged and threatened Ms.

In an exhaustive feature story, Rs details the heartbreaks, surprise marriages (to Michael Jackson, especially), and troubles with self-identity, substance abuse, and daily life in general that Presley faced. Flashback: Ramones Play ‘The KKK Took My Baby Away’ in 1996

Joey Ramone died 20 years ago, on April 15th, 2001, and Netflix marked the occasion on Thursday by announcing that Pete Davidson will play the punk icon in a biopic. It will be based on I Slept With Joey Ramone, a 2009 book by his brother, Mickey Leigh.

Davidson may be three inches shorter than the 6-foot-6 Ramones lead singer, but he has a similar body frame, and side-by-side photos provided by Netflix do make the case that he’ll be able to pull off the role once he’s given a wig...

Burt Reynolds Laid to Rest in Hollywood Cemetery Over Two Years After His Death
Image
Late Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds has finally been laid to rest over two years after his death. The Associated Press reports that a small, private memorial ceremony was held Thursday morning at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with relatives participating via Zoom. On the day that would have been his 85th birthday, Reynolds's cremated ashes were placed in a grave next to a lake that now serves as his final resting place.

At this time, Burt's gravesite is marked with a simple headstone brandishing his name. Mourners have also adorned the grave with flowers, a wreath, and even a model of the Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. The grave marker is temporary, as Hollywood Forever president and co-owner Tyler Cassity says that a bronze or stone bust of the iconic actor is being commissioned with the hopes of unveiling it to the public in September on the third anniversary of his death.

When Keith Ross was a 10-year-old growing up in New Jersey, Black Sabbath came to town. Since he was too young to attend, he drew the concert as he imagined it.

The drawing, along with others, inspired Ross to create @TinyConcert, an Instagram account that features short videos of bands drawn with a ballpoint pen — “Just as I would have when I was a kid,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I keep all my mistakes. It’s the smudges and stray lines that give these characters their charm.”

Since 2018, Ross has drawn acts like Alice Cooper,...

Ramones Drop Music Video for Road To Ruin's 40th Anniversary
Tony Sokol Sep 21, 2018

The Ramones' Road To Ruin turns 40 with a previously unreleased music video and a reissue to prove it.

Some fans think The Ramones reached their peak with their fourth album, Road to Ruin, which turns 40 today. Released on September 21, 1978 through Sire Records, it followed Rocket to Russia, which saw a drop off in album sales, pushing Tommy Ramone to put more time into production. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone snagged the drummer from Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Marc Bell and rechristened him Marky Ramone, leaving Tommy to produce the album with Ed Stasium, with a nod to the Phil Spector sound. With the single "I Wanna Be Sedated" as a lead-off, Road to Ruin was considered Billboard-ready. But it only hit 103 on the charts, 50 notches down from the last record. The Ramones recently dropped a deluxe reissue of the album and found a previously unreleased video...

Dee Dee Ramone, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Marky Ramone, and Ramones in Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979)
Ramones unearthed a previously unseen video for their surging love song “She’s the One.”

The punk icons presumably filmed the bare-bones clip during the same 1978 session that yielded their visual for “Don’t Come Close.” Throughout the video, the quartet perform with their trademark manic energy, singer Joey Ramone tilting the microphone forward and guitarist Johnny Ramone thrashing his axe as his bangs flail wildly.

The clip promotes the Ramones’ newly issued 40th anniversary edition of their fourth LP, Road to Ruin, available as a remastered single album and...

Mike Gold: Archie Is Too Cool For Words
Lately, my Weird Sounds Inside The Gold Mind kickass rock and blues Internet radio show has spilled over into my ComicMix column. But it’s hard for me to restrain myself, and besides, self-restraint isn’t exactly my long suit.

Since every living person, as well as the estates of many of the dead, makes all kinds of “big” announcements at Sdcc, the smart people (Hi, Martha!) make their big announcements the week before the show. They’ll get better exposure in the online comics news sites, and this year they avoid having to compete for attention with a 70-year old Creamsicle media hog with severe bigotry issues.

So our friends at Archie Comics cleverly chose last week to announce their latest bizarre crossover, Archie Meets The Ramones. This past decade or so, Archie Comics (as opposed to the character, Archie Andrews) have been the most innovative and risk-taking of the Original Comics Publishers.

Savages Focus-Tested Their New Album. It Actually Gave Them Hope for Humanity.
Johnny Ramone
Since rock is dead and all, it seemed fitting to meet Savages in a graveyard. The London post-punk favorites are dressed for the occasion in their signature all-black attire, gathered on a blanket in the scorching late-August sun, between Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s iconic statue of the late Johnny Ramone and a memorial pond full of white swans. The prevailing mood, however, is less than somber. “That's the Queen's, don't touch it!” blurts bassist Ayşe Hassan as front woman Jehnny Beth makes moves toward the pond bank and the massive birds. Hassan pauses, turning back to me. “Do the ones in America belong to the Queen as well?” “She owns all the swans, even the band,” deadpans guitarist Gemma Thompson. The four women have been traveling almost nonstop for the past week or so, during which they’ve played their final Stateside shows (six here in California, one in Vegas) of the year,...

On this day in pop culture history: Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘flying skirt’ moment
Sixty-one years ago today, this iconic image was born: Marilyn Monroe, laughing as the skirt of her white cocktail dress is blown up by the air from a subway vent. Monroe had her famous skirt moment on the set of “The Seven Year Itch” for a scene with Tom Ewell filmed on Sept. 15, 1954. Her husband, baseball player Joe Dimaggio, was reportedly infuriated by the scene, and the couple divorced shortly afterward. The iconic photo of the “flying skirt” moment was taken by Monroe's friend Sam Shaw. Other notable Sept. 15 happenings in pop culture history: • 1949: “The Lone Ranger” premiered on ABC. • 1956: Elvis Presley started a five-week run at No.1 on the U.S. charts with “Don't Be Cruel.” • 1961: A band from Hawthorne, Calif. called The Pendletones had their first recording session at Hite Morgan’s studio in Los Angeles. The band later changed their name to The Beach Boys.

Martin Scorsese at an event for The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards (2010)
Martin Scorsese is planning to direct a biopic of the seminal punk rock band The Ramones, according to a new report at The Wrap.

The filmmaker will start work on the project after he wraps his next movie, Silence, which stars Andrew Garfield, Ken Watanabe and Liam Neeson.

The band, comprised of singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, bassist Dee Dee Ramone and drummer Tommy Ramone, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002 after a legendary career that included influential songs such as "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Blitzkrieg Pop."

All four band members have passed away, with Jeff Jampol and Dave Frey managing the band's estate, with plans under way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Ramones' first album in the year 2016. There are also plans for a documentary with never-before-seen footage of the band from the 1970s and 1980s, shot by George Seminara,...

Martin Scorsese is Directing a Ramones Film
This last weekend, there was a Johnny Ramone tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where Rob Zombie played, because apparently the two became friends that time The Ramones were touring around White Zombie (if all of this has been foreign to you, know there's one of your peers feeling really old for knowing exactly what I'm talking about). Anyway, Jeff Jampol, a man whose name you can quickly forget, co-manages the band's estate and with the recent death of Tommy, the last surviving Ramone, Jampol is ready to re-orient the brand around the entire band as a group (rather than honoring the individual members).

Jampol isn't any slouch, he also reps the estates of The Doors, Janis Joplin, Tupac (thank you for the hologram, Mr. Jampol), and Otis Redding, and has a grand plan for the future of the Ramones brand.

Billboard reports:

“The 40th anniversary of the Ramones is...

There is, as you might expect, considerable activity beginning to bubble in the form of planned Ramones celebrations, not least of which, according to Billboard, is a biopic that Martin Scorsese may be attached to direct.Billboard drop the information almost casually into a larger piece about last weekend's Johnny Ramone tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, attended by Guns N'Roses' Duff McKagen and The Clash's Steve Jones, and hosted by Rob Zombie. There are no further details, but The Wrap have since chimed in with their own unnamed source confirming Scorsese's interest in the film. There's no writer involved yet, and development is only at its earliest stages, but if the Scorsese intel isn't exactly solid, it's certainly plausible.

The Ramones - 1, 2, 3, 4!
Hard to believe that The Rolling Stones, half of The Beatles and The Who, and a dozen more bands that started a full decade before The Ramones (1974) have outlived them, and in many cases are still touring. They were one of my favorite punk bands ever... and with the recent death of Tommy Ramone (nee Thomas Erdelyi), all four original members of one of New York's finest bands ever, we are not "glad to see you go." The first three -- lead singer Joey (nee Jeffrey Hyman, died 2001), bass player Dee Dee (nee Douglas Colvin, died 2002), and guitarist Johnny (nee John Cummings, died 2004) -- all died only within six years after calling it quits.

They did not go gently into the night. Their off-stage dramas kept them from maintaining their once shared friendships.

Ironic isn't it? The original Ramones, the guys from "Rockaway Beach" that wanted to be sedated, are all gone.

50 dedications at the end of movies (and what they mean)
Odd List Simon Brew 15 Nov 2013 - 07:08

Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...

Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.

I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

Meanwhile, Amber recently confronted engagement rumors between her and Depp in the latest issue of Elle magazine and said, "I don't imagine myself, my work, or my life, fitting into any kind of standardized path. In fact, the idea of there even being a standard freaks me out a lot."...

Johnny Depp, whose film career began with John Waters' 1990 Cry-Baby, was a surprise guest at the 9th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute on Sunday at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where the film was screened on the mausoleum. Depp joined a Q&A moderated by Sex Pistol Steve Jones and also featuring Waters and costars Traci Lords, Ricki Lake, Joe Dallesandro (of Andy Warhol film fame) and James Intveld (Depp's singing voice in the film and, according to Waters, "the real Hollywood crybaby"). Cry-Baby, a '50s satire, set Depp free by satirizing his then-imprisoning image as a TV heartthrob. Photos:

Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
Johnny Depp brought along girlfriend Amber Heard when he reunited with his Cry-Baby crew at the ninth annual Johnny Ramone Tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery yesterday. The actor took part in a Q&A alongside costars Ricki Lake and Traci Lords and director John Waters. Other celebrity attendees included Dita Von Teese and Linda Ramone, Johnny's widow. The film, which marked Johnny's first-ever leading movie role, was screened against a mausoleum wall alongside vintage Ramones footage. Johnny's costar Traci gave insight into the actor's drive to become a movie star ahead of the screening, saying, "Johnny Depp desperately wanted to be a movie star, and everybody said he couldn't, because he was only a supporting actor on 21 Jump Street. This was his first lead in a movie, a big deal for him." John agreed with Traci, saying that "everyone in Cry-Baby was in acting image rehab. If you embrace...

We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen (2005)

"Our band could be your life," sang the Minutemen in History Lesson Part II – a line that embodied the fierce love the audiences of the Us indie underground held for their bands. The Minutemen were pioneers, coming out of the southern California hardcore punk scene, but to be tied to it, and living what they preached – "We jam econo," was a phrase bassist Mike Watt coined to describe a commitment to doing everything cheaply and independently. More than a history lesson, though, We Jam Econo is a deeply moving love letter from Watt to his friend – and the Minutemen's leader – D Boon, who died in...

The Hollywood Reporter has a new poster every day until Monday. Check out yesterday’s poster of Malin Akerman as Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry.

Today’s poster features actor Joel David Moore (Dodgeball, Avatar) as Joey Ramone.

Below is a sneak peek (during color correction process) of Joey (Joel David Moore) and Johnny Ramone (Julian Acosta) in the movie from the Official Facebook Page of Cbgb Movie.

Synopsis:

‘Cbgb’ follows the story of Hilly Kristal’s New York club from its origins as Country, Bluegrass and Blues (Cbgb) to what it ultimately became: the birthplace of underground rock ‘n roll and punk. Interview: Iconic Actress P.J. Soles on Her Brilliant Career
Chicago – If one actress can represent an era of classic and cult movies, P.J. Soles is a pretty good candidate. Her string of roles in high profile and familiar films from the mid 1970s to early ‘80s including “Carrie,” “Halloween,” “Breaking Away.” “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” “Private Benjamin” and “Stripes.”

From rocking with The Ramones to getting the “Aunt Jemima Treatment” from a young Bill Murray, Soles stood out as a fun leading actress and best friend during a more innocent age of “Star Wars” Hollywood. She was born in Germany as Pamela Jayne Harden to an American mother and Dutch father, and in her father’s capacity working international insurance, lived all over the world. She ended up going to college at Briar Cliff in New York State, which led to an early modeling and acting career in Manhattan. She went by her initials, P.J., and has...

Robert Pattinson at an event for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
It looked just like old times Thursday when Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart conducted their first shared interviews since the cheating scandal in July. Pattinson, 26, sat next to Stewart, 22, during a chat for MTV, with the actress even talking about their love scenes in Breaking Dawn: Part 2. "I feel like every scene in this movie culminates with a kiss," she says in an interview streamed live on People.com. "We always really, really prepare. [We] execute our plan well." In a separate sit-down with Et's Nancy O'Dell the pair, joined again by Taylor Lautner, were all business, fielding only questions about making another Twilight movie.

Alan Rickman, Is That You?
Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, and Ashley Greene in CBGB (2013)
It's hard to imagine Alan Rickman as anyone other than Severus Snape, but after seeing the British actor on the set of the upcoming "Cbgb" film, we're starting to think that he could have made an excellent Mr. Weasley.

"Cbgb," which chronicles the famous New York City music venue during the burgeoning punk rock scene of the 1970s, is currently filming in Savannah, Ga. Lucky residents have had the pleasure of spotting Rickman, sporing a curly red wig, on set. Now, you may need to squint your eyes -- and grab a magnifying glass -- but one Twitter user tweeted the following photo of Rickman, as legendary Cbgb owner Hilly Kristal, from the set:
