16 years after its initial release, Jason Statham's action film Crank: High Voltage is seeing success on streaming.

Per FlixPatrol, the 2009 sequel to Statham's 2006 action thriller Crank is topping the charts worldwide. As of June 28, 2025, Crank: High Voltage is Starz's #1 most streamed movie worldwide, holding the number 1 spot in twelve different countries. The film ranks well above other films, including The Equalizer 3 at #2 and Mine at #3. This comes alongside a few of Statham's other films climbing Amazon's top charts.

Jared Hess' oddball comedy "Napoleon Dynamite" was an enormous success when it was released back in 2004, making over $46 million on its tiny $400,000 budget. The film was just peculiar enough to attract a snarky audience of jeering twentysomethings who liked to quote the film's kooky dialogue and imitate lead actor Jon Heder's peculiar delivery. The title character lived in a boring city in Idaho, but, like a Wes Anderson character, also lived in a carefully constructed personal universe of his own. Napoleon was always confident and assured, even as he was relentlessly picked on at his high school. His fashion sense stunk, but he attacked the world with a strangely laconic self-assurance that one can't help but envy. 

The character was striking enough to launch a miniature industry of "Vote for Pedro" T-shirts, sweaters, mugs, Funko Pops, bumper stickers, and Halloween costumes.

When asked if Hollywood is finally facing its video game renaissance, Jared Hess abruptly switched topics, from “Minecraft” to “Nosferatu.”

“I just loved it,” “A Minecraft Movie” director Hess told IndieWire of the gothic romance from last year. Robert Eggers’ award-winning vampire movie adapts the 1922 German film and Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” by extension. It’s set centuries before video games were invented, but for Hess, Eggers’ exacting and gutsy reconsideration is proof of a key principle behind “A Minecraft Movie.”

“A lot of big movies from the last 20-plus years, so much of the imagery and the experience feels similar,” said Hess. “My favorite [films] are the ones that have personality and characters and interesting things that are unexpected and that surprise you. Those films always inspire me.”

Hess made his feature debut at Sundance in 2004 with an underdog comedy that demonstrated a clarity of vision beyond the twenty-something filmmaker’s years.

Through a haze of tater tots and ill-tempered llamas, it can be easy to forget that “Napoleon Dynamite” is also about time travel. There’s a literal time machine in the movie, yes, but it’s also an ode to retro-nostalgia and small-town teen angst.

We spoke with Danny Trejo leading up to the release of Seven Cemeteries, his uniquely comedic new Western film that features familiar faces like Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) and Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place). It's a wild, supernatural ride as Trejo's lead antihero, Bruno, guides a ragtag undead posse to redemption. It's also just the kind of project for a likable badass like Trejo, who is perhaps best known for his awesome collaborations with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, including his eponymous role in Robert Rodriguez's cult classic Machete franchise. Ever since the movie was released following the faux trailer's premiere during Grindhouse (2007), fans have been yearning for another Machete film.

There was talk of a potential sequel titled Machete Kills in Space, and Trejo confirmed to us that he's still interested in the idea. "I've got to get Robert to make Machete Kills in Space. I'll take Elon Musk with me!

Napoleon Dynamite hit the big screen two decades ago and has since developed a cult following thanks to its refreshing new take on the coming-of-age comedy scene. Besides, given its commercial success, it appears that there's a sequel in the discussion, which Efren Ramirez recently teased to ComicBook, hinting at the inclusion of the original cast. Ramirez starred as Class President candidate Pedro Snchez in the indie film that gained $46.1 million globally against a $400,000 budget and currently has a 72% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Napoleon Dynamite might be getting a sequel. Efren Ramirez, who played Pedro Snchez in the 2004 indie coming-of-age film, says the entire cast is willing to reprise their roles.

"Everyone wants a sequel. And I can say this, legally, that the door's not closed yet. There's more to tell with these characters," Ramirez told ComicBook. "When you have a really good story, whether you make a prequel or a sequel, you can really explore the depths of these characters of where they would be, or where they came from, or what led them to be where they're at."

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Napoleon Dynamite. It was in a Montreal movie theater in the old Forum building (currently featured in the Queen IMAX doc Queen Rock Montreal). The film had only been out a few weeks but had already started becoming a cult hit following its Sundance premiere.
