Martin Lawrence Action-Comedy 'Blue Streak' to Stream Free This December
Image
Amid the shocking news of a sequel, one of Bad Boys star Martin Lawrences most beloved action outings is all set to stream for free. Released back in 1999, the action-comedy Blue Streak sees Lawrence leading as a master thief who finds himself double-crossed, stashing the diamond hes just stolen on a construction site, and sent to prison. When hes released, he discovers that what was once a construction site is now a police station...and the diamond is buried somewhere inside.

You may not know this, but Blue Streak was, in fact, inspired by a British comedy from 1965 titled The Big Job. Taking its cues from that 60s caper, the action-comedy is directed by Les Mayfield and stars Martin Lawrence alongside Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, Peter Greene, Nicole Ari Parker, and William Forsythe. While Blue Streak was met with severely mixed reviews at the time, it saw success at the box office,...

Naked And Afraid's Production Process Is Far From Easy For The Discovery Channel
Image
Production of Naked and Afraid is genuinely treacherous, with survivalists left "on their own" in the wilderness for 21 days. Producers only step in when contestants "start to crack" emotionally, offering motivation when needed. Cast members often surprise producers by reaching the extraction point quickly, showing resilience in the wilderness.

Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid has often been accused of being fake. But producers, Steve Rankin and Mathilde Bittner revealed that shooting the reality series is genuinely "treacherous" for them. It's mostly because the pair of survivalists who stay in the wilderness for 21 days, naked and without food or water are truly "on their own" throughout the season.

While they have an emergency line with the production team, the cast members are still kept in a "bubble". Rankin said the only time they "choreograph" the scene is when the two reportedly underpaid participants meet for the first time on day one.

The Six-Time Oscar Nominee Who Played Memorable Roles On Both Buffy And Charmed
Image
One of the great things about the old broadcast TV model, in which seasons stretched to 20+ episodes, mere months separated one season from the next, and production schedules were thus unforgivingly demanding, was that producers always had an insatiable need for new talent. Filming 22 consecutive 42-minute episodes over the course of a few months? Your principals aren't going to be enough to cover all the ground your story will invariably traverse, and besides, they wouldn't have the time or energy even if you asked.

The solution to this problem? Guest stars!

Series from this golden age of television, from sitcoms like "Friends" and "Frasier" to dramas like "Charmed" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," were powered by guest stars in the same way the larger Hollywood machine is powered by the legions of extras, bit players, and uncredited walk-ons who fill each frame with glorious humanity. Those last two series in...

15 Best Survival Reality TV Shows Ranked
Image
While many wouldn't be able to survive in the wilderness if stranded, it doesn't stop audiences from watching other people try to do it — here are the best survival shows, ranked from worst to best. In mainstream television and movies as well, the survival narrative is extremely popular. Harrowing tales of survival in films like The Revenant, The Martian, and 127 Hours almost instantly strike a chord with viewers. But when the same narrative is applied to reality TV, it morphs into something all the more fascinating.

Watching real people strip back the complexities of modern lifestyles to fulfill their basic needs not only makes up for a gripping reality series but also satiates a viewer's want to connect with nature. This explains why survival reality TV rarely relies on exaggerated melodrama and often has the narrative of a rite of passage for its contestants. Due to its popularity, the...

Sci-Fi Spoof Featuring 42 Star Trek Actors To Premiere This August
This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.

For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.

In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

Two more items on the agenda to go through. One is the trailer,...

Temptations Musical Set For Broadway: ‘Ain’t Too Proud’ Arrives Next Spring
Des McAnuff at an event for The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle (2000)
A musical about the great Temptations is headed to Broadway. Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations, directed by Des McAnuff and produced by Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce, will begin performances at the Imperial Theatre in spring 2019.

The musical, which follows the classic Motown vocalists – and their signature dance moves – from “the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” had its world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where it became the highest grossing production in that theater’s nearly 50-year history. The musical later broke the single-week box office record at Washington D.C.’s Eisenhower Theater in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, according to producers.

Producers describe the show as the “story of brotherhood, family, loyalty, and betrayal,” all playing out against a backdrop of civil unrest and set to Temptations classics like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,...

Bear Grylls Tweets Graphic Photo Of Snake-Bitten Foot
Bear Grylls in Man vs. Wild (2006)
TV survival expert Bear Grylls tweeted an extremely graphic photo Tuesday of a "Man Vs. Wild" producer recovering from a venomous snake bite on his foot.

The graphic image -- embedded below -- shows the producer, Steve Rankin, getting medical treatment for his wounded appendage. Much of the flesh from the top of his foot has been eaten away by the venom, leaving his bones exposed.

A Discovery source tells HuffPost TV the photo was taken three weeks ago, when Grylls and Rankin were shooting a new series for the network called "Naked & Afraid." Since then, Rankin has undergone surgery for the wound, and his prognosis is very good.
