July 1 Will Be a Great Day for Home Alone Fans
Image
Another John Hughes movie is headed to streaming. Home Alone fans will be able to stream three of the franchise's movies next month.

Hulu subscribers can stream the original Home Alone, 1992's Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and 1997's pseudo-reboot Home Alone 3beginning July 1 according to Hulu's July calendar. Writer-producer John Hughes launched the beloved family movies with a 1990 holiday classic starring Macaulay Culkin

Home Alone instantly became a festive classic and launched a franchise that continued in 1992 with Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Kevin was once again pitted against the Wet Bandits – now known as the Sticky Bandits – in NYC after getting lost on a plane headed for New York City. Donald Trump's cameo has since been revived online. The first two Home Alone movies have spawned endless fan theories to explain why Kevin's parents were so consistently distracted, including one claiming the family may have had mob ties.

Macaulay Culkin Ruined 'Home Alone' for Brenda Song
Image
It's safe to say that watching Home Alone is not an annual holiday tradition at the Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song household. Culkin — who famously starred in the iconic film and its sequel as Kevin McAllister — and Song have been together since 2017 and are now engaged. And while promoting her latest project, the popular Netflix sports comedy Running Point on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the actress revealed that watching Home Alone with the film's star ended up being a terrible idea.

"When we started dating almost eight years ago now," Song shared, "Christmastime came around, and I was like, 'It's a tradition! I always watch Home Alone every Christmas!" Culkin was very hesitant. Still, Song persisted, and "forced" him into what ended up ruining the very meta experience:

"He hadn't seen the movie in like a decade, and I forced him — he didn't wanna watch it. I was like, 'We have to.

'It's a Masterpiece': Nosferatu Director Watches 1 Beloved Family-Friendly Christmas Film Every Year
Image
Robert Eggers has only ever directed R-rated feature films, but one of his personal favorites is a family-friendly classic. And, like many fans, it's a movie he watches at least once a year, probably around the Christmas holiday season.

Per Konbini, Eggers shared his thoughts on the iconic 1990 movie Home Alone. The film was directed by Chris Columbus, who also served as a producer on Eggers' new Nosferatu movie. While Eggers noted that Columbus has been his "mentor" since his first feature film, his appreciation for the filmmaker's work goes much back to Home Alone. Eggers called the Macaulay Culkin-led classic a "masterpiece," stressing how big a fan he is of the film.

Succession's Kieran Culkin Says His First Director Called Him a "Dummy" when He was Just Six Years Old
Image
Many, many years before Kieran Culkin won an Emmy Award for his role as Roman Roy in Succession, he had an on-set experience that was less than ideal. People reports via the Smartless podcast, that while making his first commercial the director called him a “dummy.”

“First professional experience I had was a commercial when I was 6,” said Kieran to Smartless hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. Although Culkin doesn’t exactly remember what the commercial was for he said it was “something to do with learning disabilities.”

“The concept was I’m standing in front of a chalkboard with chalk in my hand, and I don’t know how to solve the easy thing in front of me,” recalled Culkin. “And the kids in the class are supposed to be calling me a dummy and stupid, all that,” he continued.

“Whatever gets her motor running, I guess”: Macaulay Culkin Admitted Using Home Alone Fame To Get Laid
Image
Macaulay Culkin received a lot of fame when he participated in the 1990 comedy hit Home Alone as the eight-year-old Kevin McCallister. This opened several other opportunities for the actor in the industry, and he became an overnight sensation. While things looked good on the outside, in reality, this fame was quite tough on the actor personally.

This mirrored the same issue that many child actors face in the industry, especially when they start out at such a young age. However, Culkin used his fame and the popularity of Home Alone for another purpose altogether. In an interview, he admitted that he used his Home Alone fame to get laid.

Macaulay Culkin has revealed Joe Pesci accidentally bit his finger during a rehearsal for 'Home Alone'.The 44-year-old actor – who played the cheeky Kevin McCallister in the 1990 festive film – said he and Joe, 81, were rehearsing a scene where thief Harry threatens the young boy, only for the 'Goodfellas' star to get carried away and bit down hard on his finger. At a Q+A session in Rosemont, Illinois, as a part of the actor's 'A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin' tour to celebrate the movie, he said: "He [Joe] was trying to scare me. He was like, 'I want to be menacing to this kid.'"After Joe accidentally chomped on his finger, Macaulay said his co-star "didn't react much" to the incident, and added the bite had actually left him with a scar.He added: "I have a scar. Kieran Culkin Recalls Home Alone Experience, Details How Buzz Actor Pranked Him
Image
Before his Emmy Award-winning role as Roman Roy in Succession, Kieran Culkin portrayed another scene-stealing character - that of “Fuller” McCallister in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Now, Per Entertainment Weekly via an interview published in the Los Angeles Times, Culkin admitted he had “no idea” why people thought Home Alone was so funny.

As Fuller, a character who had a penchant for drinking cola and wetting the bed, Culkin had a small, but memorable role in the franchise. Culkin’s older brother, Macaulay Culkin, played the iconic, mischievous Kevin McCallister who is accidentally left “home alone” in the movies.

“The Guy Who Plays Buzz Lied To Me”: Kieran Culkin Didn’t Know His Brother Was The Star Of Home Alone Until The Premiere
Image
Kieran Culkin has revealed that he didn't know his brother, Macaulay Culkin, was the star of Home Alone until the premiere, despite having a role in the movie himself. The younger Culkin brother portrayed Fuller in the cast of Home Alone, while his older brother played the lead character, Kevin. While his role in the film isn’t as large as his older brother’s, it was his first time onscreen, leading to the blossoming career he’s been able to carry ever since.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times about his new movie A Real Pain alongside co-star Jesse Eisenberg, Culkin admitted he had no idea what Home Alone was about when he first saw the movie. He also said that Devin Ratray convinced him that Buzz, Ratray's character, was the protagonist of the movie. He didn't find out Macaulay was the real main character until watching the premiere,...

Kieran Culkin "Had No Idea" What 'Home Alone' Was About, and He's in It
Image
In the annals of Christmas-themed movies, Home Alone is arguably one of the best. It’s family-friendly, funny, and provides heartwarming messages of faith, parental bonds, and the resilience of youth. Just don’t tell Kieran Culkin that, at least not his younger self, because when he first saw it, he had no idea what the heck was going on – and he’s in the movie!

Culkin starred as Fuller in Home Alone when he was eight, the same age his brother’s character of Kevin McCallister was when he staved off a home invasion by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern after being left behind while everyone traipsed off to Paris for the holidays. In fact, Fuller was part of the reason Kevin was forgotten about in the first place, because he didn’t want to bunk with his bed-wetting cousin, which in turn led to the big blow up with his mom,...

Kieran Culkin Won’t Let His Kids Watch ‘Home Alone’
Image
Uncle Macaulay is a monster.

At least, that’s the message that Kieran Culkin seems to be sending to his young children by refusing to allow them to watch Home Alone, the comedy blockbuster that starred his older brother. Ironically, Kieran was also in the movie as Kevin McCallister’s little cousin Fuller.

To be fair, it sounds like Culkin will let his kids watch the John Hughes classic — eventually. But Dad believes that daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3, might be freaked out at their current ages. As he told E! News, “There’s still some scary parts” that might keep the young’uns up at night.

“For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula and there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers,’” Culkin pointed out. “That’s scary for a 3-year-old.”

It was scary in real life as well. “In the first Home Alone,...

Kieran Culkin explains that he doesn’t let his children watch Home Alone
Image
It’s that time of year when family favorites of the holiday season are played repeatedly on TV. Movies like Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, A Christmas Story and The Santa Clause are on heavy rotations. Even though the movie is as popular as ever (complete with brand-new merchandise released decades after its premiere), Succession star Kieran Culkin revealed recently that he actually had not allowed his children to watch Home Alone, which stars his brother Macaulay and features him in a small role.

You might ask, “But why?” Is it because he doesn’t want his children to see him guzzle down Pepsi with the implication that he’ll wet the bed? The explanation is actually much simpler and more sensible. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Culkin would tell E! News that “there’s still some scary parts” for his young children.

Before Rebel Ridge, Jeremy Saulnier Perfected His Style with Blue Ruin
Image
Quick Links What Is Blue Ruin About? Blue Ruin Is Brilliantly Directed and Subversive Blue Ruin Was a Deserved Breakout for Jeremy Saulnier

After five years, multiple Covid-responsible delays, and a major recasting, Rebel Ridge is finally here. Director Jeremy Saulnier, who broke out with action fans in the 2010s (especially after the ultra-brutal Green Room), first conceived of the vigilante thriller Rebel Ridge in 2019, with John Boyega in the lead role, but the Covid pandemic pushed filming back to 2022. When they started filming, John Boyega left partway through production, allegedly for family reasons. Even after it wrapped, its fate looked uncertain, reportedly spending two years in post-production before Netflix abruptly announced its streaming-exclusive release this summer.

While Saulnier has yet to truly break out into the mainstream, hes beloved in cult circles for his nuts-and-bolts storytelling, unbearable suspense, and brutal violence. Thus far, Rebel Ridge looks to be another worthy addition to his canon.

Home Alone 2 Star Found Guilty on 34 Felony Charges

Donald Trump, an actor and Bible salesman, has been found unanimously guilty of 34 felony charges, facing a max sentence of 136 years, though will likely become President in November regardless. The future of Trump's acting career and upcoming projects remains murky ahead of his sentencing and the upcoming Republican National Convention.

25 Best Home Alone Quotes

The best Home Alone quotes have made it a must-watch comedy over the festive period for decades. Macaulay Culkin's performance, along with the rest of the cast, ensures that each joke in Home Alone lands perfectly. The iconic quotes from Home Alone reveal hidden details and jokes that make the movie even better with age.

The best Home Alone quotes highlight why the 1990 home-invasion comedy starring Macaulay Culkin is regarded as one of the best Christmas movies of all time. Directed by Chris Columbus, Home Alone starred Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old who's left home alone for the holidays when his parents forget to bring him to the airport with the rest of the family for a winter vacation. To make matters even more complex — and hilarious — two would-be burglars calling themselves the Wet Bandits target the McCallister home, leaving Kevin to fend off Joe Pesci's Harry...

8 Classic “Plot Holes” In Home Alone That The Movie Actually Explained 33 Years Ago
Image
The McCallister's could have realized they left Kevin behind sooner if they noticed his missing plane ticket, which was accidentally thrown away. The pizza delivery boy didn't call the cops because he was scared and more focused on his own safety. The phone lines were still being fixed when Kevin's dad called the neighbors, so he couldn't call Kevin directly.

Home Alone is a surprisingly airtight movie, with every little detail regarding its seemingly messy plot having been thought of well in advance by the screenwriters 33 years ago. Telling the tale of the young Kevin McCallister, abandoned to fend for himself during a series of burglaries after his family forgets to bring him along for a holiday trip, the 1990 comedy has become a venerated Christmas classic. Standing the test of time even after 30 plus years of scrutiny, the degree to which every possible plot hole in the film's simple, yet...

What's Up With Buzz's Girlfriend In Home Alone?
Image
The Buzz girlfriend Home Alone scene, with the boy dressed as a girl, raises questions about its appropriateness in today's culture. The facial expression of the child in the scene is what makes it funny, not the fact that it's a boy dressed as a girl. The filmmakers were aware of the potential harm and chose to focus on the awkwardness of the photo rather than mocking the child's appearance.

There is something strange about the Buzz girlfriend Home Alone scene. The film has become a Christmas classic since it was made in 1990 but began as an underfunded pipe dream for director Chris Columbus, who had to call in many favors to get the film made. Few thought Home Alone would become the highest-grossing live-action comedy for two decades (until The Hangover Part II stole the title in 2011), and now Buzz girlfriend Home Alone moment has been memorialized — helped in...

A Subtle Detail Confirms The Darkest Home Alone Theory
Image
Blink and you’ll miss it, but a Home Alone detail confirms one of the darkest reads of the Chris Columbus classic. The iconic comedy that launched Macaulay Culkin to immediate adolescent stardom is a mainstay of annual holiday binges, but even now inspires discourse. Was Uncle Frank a monster? Did Kevin McCallister grow up to be a killer? Was that toothbrush approved by the American Dental Association?

Conventional Home Alone theory suggests that Kevin’s idea that he was the only one in his family getting “crapped on” is a pre-pubescent galaxy. After all, the emergence of ego in children comes without the later developments of empathy and selflessness. They’re brats by accident, not design. And while Kevin is certainly victimized by being left in the attic, John Hughes made it very clear that the bed Kevin is banished to is one he makes himself. But is Kevin...

Home Alone: Here's What The Cast Looks Like Now
Image
In 1990, viewers were introduced to Kevin McCallister and his journey in fending off burglars in Home Alone. The movie became a classic and is now rewatched again and again every holiday season. With Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O'Hara, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern as the leads, Home Alone had some of the best '90s actors on-screen.

It's been over 30 years since the movie's release and there have been sequels and remakes to give fans even more Home Alone moments, but nothing beats the original. Culkin was only nine years old while filming the movie. Now a 42-year-old, he's older than O'Hara was when she played his mom. With so much time that's gone by, it's amazing to see how far the actors have come and what they look like now.

What Happened To Kevin After Home Alone?
Image
Home Sweet Home Alone includes a few Easter eggs that reveal what Macaulay Culkin's Kevin McCallister has been up to since the original Home Alone movies. Home Alone was a massive hit during the 1990s and made a star out of 10-year-old Macaulay Culkin. The kid from Home Alone is mistakenly left behind by his family for Christmas and has to defend his home against hapless robbers Harry and Marv, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. Culkin aged out of the role after the enjoyable (if derivative) sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, but the Home Alone series continued with a slew of lackluster sequels and rehashes - none of which featured Kevin.

Home Sweet Home Alone was announced after Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, therefore acquiring the rights to Home Alone. However, the newest addition to the franchise is not a direct remake, and...

‘Scrubs’ Writer Eric Weinberg Accused of Predatory Sexual Assaults by Dozens of Women
John C. McGinley, Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, and Judy Reyes in Scrubs (2001)
Eric Weinberg, a television writer and producer for shows like “Scrubs” and “Californication” who was arrested in July for “multiple” reports of sexual assaults, is accused by more than two dozen women — many speaking on the record — of luring them to his family home, where he brazenly sexually assaulted them, according to The Hollywood Reporter in a story published Thursday.

The exhaustive report details Weinberg’s pattern of approaching young women in public places, using his Hollywood credentials — along with scripted flattery and calculated assurances — to gain their trust and interest. Once at his home, Weinberg was repeatedly described as becoming immediately sexually and physically aggressive, pushing past spoken boundaries and often taking graphic pictures as he carried out the assaults.

There is evidence Weinberg has been engaged in this pattern for more than 20 years, and investigators suggest that the victims could number in the hundreds. THR said it spoke...

'Home Alone' actor Devin Ratray accused of raping woman
Image
‘Home Alone’ actor Devin Ratray, who played Kevin’s older brother Buzz in the popular film franchise, is reportedly being investigated for allegedly raping a woman in New York.

Lisa Smith claims that the actor, who played Macaulay Culkin’s bullying older brother in the 1990 film, attacked her in his Manhattan apartment in 2017 after possibly spiking her drink, reports mirror.co.uk.

Ratray, who denies the allegation, currently faces domestic violence charges from an unrelated incident.

The report of his arrest in that case led Smith to contact prosecutors about a report she filed accusing the actor of rape. She wanted to know why it wasn’t pursued.

Smith said the authorities had wrongly believed she wanted to stay anonymous and didn’t want to press charges.

She told CNN and prosecutors she and Ratray had been friends for 15 years before the alleged incident. After drinks with her brother and a friend,...

‘I had a gun on the table’: Shia Labeouf says he experienced suicidal thoughts after abuse allegation

Actor Shia Labeouf has opened up about experiencing suicidal thoughts, saying he became “nuclear” after abuse allegations were made against him.

In December 2020, Labeouf’s ex-girlfriend, the musician FKA twigs, sued him for “relentless abuse” including sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress.

Labeouf later denied causing twigs “any injury or loss”, saying that she was not “entitled to any relief or damages whatsoever”.

The trial date for twigs’s case against Labeouf has been set for 17 April 2023.

Filmmaker Olivia Wilde said in a recent interview that she fired Labeouf from her forthcoming film Don’t Worry Darling to make sure co-star Florence Pugh felt “safe”.

“I say this as someone who is such an admirer of [Labeouf’s] work,” she said. “His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions.”

In a new interview with Word on Fire Catholic Ministries’ Bishop Robert Barron, Labeouf described his experience with suicidal thoughts,...

Home Alone star Devin Ratray has been accused of rape by a friend, according to a report in the US.

Ratray played Buzz McCallister, the older brother of Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin, in the hit 1990 family film. He later appeared in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and the recent reboot Home Sweet Home Alone, as well as films such as Hustlers and Kimi.

Last December, Ratray was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend while in Oklahoma for a fan convention. He was later released on bond and pleaded not guilty.

According to a report by CNN, a woman named Lisa Smith, a former friend of Ratray, contacted proescutors after learning of Ratray’s arrest, inquiring about a police report she filed in 2017.

Smith claimed that she had been friends with Ratray for about 15 years before the alleged incident took place.

She alleged to CNN that on the night...

‘Home Alone’ Actor Devin Ratray Under Investigation Over Rape Allegation
Image
Actor Devin Ratray, best known for playing older brother of Macaulay Culkin’s character in “Home Alone”, is being investigated for an alleged rape.

CNN reports that Ratray, who portrayed Buzz in the 1990 holiday classic and its sequel, is being accused by Lisa Smith of raping her in 2017.

According to CNN, Smith publicly accused Ratray after he was charged with domestic violence in December 2021 due to an incident in Oklahoma that involved his then-girlfriend.

“Seeing that he was accused of assaulting someone else made me realize that I needed to do whatever I could to prevent him from hurting even more women,” Smith said.

Smith claims that she and Ratray had been platonic friends for 15 years when, one night in September 2017, she recalled feeling drowsy after consuming a drink Ratray gave her. She believes she was drugged and then raped.

‘Home Alone’ Actor Devin Ratray Faces Rape Accusation From 2017 Incident
Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern in Home Alone (1990)
“Home Alone” and “Better Call Saul” actor Devin Ratray, who is already facing domestic assault charges in Oklahoma, has been accused of raping a woman in his New York City apartment in 2017.

According to CNN, a woman named Lisa Smith has come forward with the accusation — and to complain that New York Police Department detectives spent time gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses five years ago — and then abandoned the case without action or explanation.

The NYPD repeatedly declined to comment to TheWrap on whether there is an active investigation into Ratray.

Ratray, who played Macaulay Culkin’s “bully” older brother in the first two “Home Alone” movies, has never been charged in the New York case. He did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, but denied the rape allegation in a phone call to CNN.

‘Better Call Saul’ Just Boasted a Cameo from Kevin McCallister’s Older, Flat-Topped Brother Buzz
Image
Eagle-eyed “Better Call Saul” fans who are also fans of a certain beloved 1990s film franchise might’ve caught an unexpected cameo: Devin Ratray, who starred as Kevin McCallister’s (Macaulay Culkin) older brother Buzz in “Home Alone,” appears in Season 6, Episode 11 of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s series, now in its final season.

The episode, cannily titled “Breaking Bad,” was also noteworthy for finally introducing the long-awaited appearance of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), officially merging the timelines of the AMC original series and this prequel one. But as first caught by Decider, Ratray makes his own appearance as an insufferable man named Alfred Hawthorne Hill, who meets Gene (Jimmy/Saul Goodman in his post-“Breaking Bad” persona in the time-jumping episode) at a karaoke bar. Gene here is sliding back into his old scheming ways and with the help of a cab driver...

‘Kimi’ Review: Zoë Kravitz Stars In Steven Soderbergh’s HBO Max Nifty Little Yarn, With A Modern Technological Twist
Image
Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly and Steven Soderbergh just gotta keep on making films, which he does with his 33rd feature narrative title, Kimi, in which the central character’s intense agoraphobia very neatly overlaps with the all-enveloping presence of Covid. It’s a piece that feels like it was quickly made in the heat of the moment and creatively benefits from that edge. The film is also bolstered by the unsettling disruptions of norms, the feeling that the continuation of everyday existence is extremely tenuous. It’s a tight, taut little thriller—the third film Soderbergh has made under Covid conditions–that defines our times as the moment when communication via electric devices has superseded personal one-on-one contact. In this regard, the film clearly represents the time and place it was made.

Shot under restrictive circumstances that feel all-too familiar, the film was written by David Koepp, whose...

The filmmaker behind “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Magic Mike” and “Traffic” tackles the thriller genre with a story set during the Covid-19 pandemic in “Kimi,” which serves as a performance vehicle for Zoë Kravitz. The film marks the first collaboration between Soderbergh and “Panic Room” and “Spider-Man” writer David Koepp, and is already drawing notice for being a lean, mean thriller that compels from beginning to end.

‘Home Alone’ Actor Devin Ratray Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Girlfriend While Attending Fan Convention
Image
The actor who played Buzz McCallister, the older brother of Macaulay Culkin’s character in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, was arrested while in Oklahoma for a fan convention this month, according to local news reports.

Devin Ratray, 44, was in Oklahoma City in early December for an appearance at Okc Pop Christmas Con, a two-day event where he was billed as one of the main attractions.

According to reports, the actor and his girlfriend were out drinking when they were approached by two women asking for his autograph. Ratray’s girlfriend reportedly gave the women autographed cards for free. That decision later became a point of contention between the two.

Their disagreement allegedly turned violent once the couple returned to their hotel room, with Ratray accused of choking the woman there.

‘Home Sweet Home Alone’ Review – Second Opinion
Image
Stars: Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, Aisling Bea, Devin Ratray, Kenan Thompson, Timothy Simons, Ally Maki, Pete Holmes, Chris Parnell | Written by Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell | Directed by Dan Mazer

Nerdly readers, the punishment I take for you, so you don’t have to knows no bounds. If you are on the fence about watching the newest film in the Home Alone franchise, I hope this review can sway you to watch something, anything(!) else than this clunker of a movie. If you still decide to watch the film, please proceed with caution.

Believe it or not, this is the sixth film in the Home Alone franchise and the first one since 2012’s Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, which I’m sure is as forgettable as it sounds. This time, youngster Max (Archie Yates) has just moved to Chicago with his mother Carol (Aisling Bea), his father Mike (Andy...

Image
Stars: Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, Aisling Bea, Devin Ratray, Kenan Thompson, Timothy Simons, Ally Maki, Pete Holmes, Chris Parnell | Written by Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell | Directed by Dan Mazer

With the introduction of Disney+ and therefore the need for new shows and movies it is no surprise at all that the most well known of Christmas movies got a sequel on the streaming platform. The original Home Alone (and that first sequel) is one of my favourite movies ever and any modern day sequel was going to have a tough time being anywhere near as good as the first two films. That said, with a talented cast, I was looking forward to seeing how Home Sweet Home Alone turned out.

Apart from a child being left home alone, the story is changed up a little bit. This time, the crooks aren’t really crooks but a married couple...

‘Home Sweet Home Alone’ Review: Disney Plus Reboot Offers Little Hilarity, Lots of Homesickness
Image
“Home Sweet Home Alone” takes everything audiences loved about the Chris Columbus-directed, John Hughes-penned original and turns it around on them. Holiday sentimentality co-mingling with slapstick violence hits differently when the filmmakers not only swap the roles of the empathetic protagonist and dastardly antagonists, but also take a both-sides approach to rooting interest. While this might seem like an ingenious way to reinvigorate a long-run-into-the-ground franchise where a child faces off against bumbling burglars, this Disney Plus offering maddeningly fails to lean into the aspects it so desperately and ambitiously seeks to change. Mean-spirited, downright sloppy and awkwardly unfunny, this rote feature reboot lacks holiday cheer.

Jeff and Pam McKenzie (Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper) are begrudgingly selling their home as they can no longer make their mortgage payments. Tech wiz Jeff has been unemployed for months and Pam’s teacher’s salary is dwindling. The cash-strapped couple is...

Archie Yates Defends His House in 'Home Sweet Home Alone' Trailer #2
Archie Yates in Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
"Not your typical kid. Not your typical burglars." 20th Century Studios has debuted a second 60-second promo trailer for Home Sweet Home Alone, the new Home Alone remake. Described as a "reimagining of the beloved holiday film franchise." The first trailer was out last month, and this opens in a few weeks on Disney+. Stay away, this looks bad. A couple tries to steal back a valuable heirloom from a troublesome kid who just so happens to be home alone while his family is away on a trip. Archie Yates (from Jojo Rabbit and on "Wolfboy and the Everything Factory") stars as Max, with a cast including Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell. This sitll looks as dumb as any movie can, which is a real shame because if they wanted to live up to the original classic,...

Archie Yates in Trailer for Disney's 'Home Sweet Home Alone' Reboot
Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern in Home Alone (1990)
"You really think I'm that stupid?" 20th Century Studios has unveiled an official trailer for a new reboot of Home Alone titled officially Home Sweet Home Alone. This is sort of a remake, but not really, described as a "reimagining of the beloved holiday film franchise." Ugh. A married couple tries to steal back a valuable heirloom from a troublesome kid who just so happens to be home alone while his family is away on a trip. No surprise, this looks awful. They took the original Home Alone, which is indeed a classic, and just made it dumber in every single way. Why?! This just ain't worth it. Here's the official trailer...
