International Disruptors: Indiana Execs Reflect On Tapping Into Spirit Of UK Costume Dramas For Italian-Language Drama ‘The Leopard’: “We Were Among Six Projects Vying For The Rights”
Image
Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week we’re talking to Fabrizio Donvito and Daniel Campos Pavoncelli at Milan and Rome-based Indiana Production. The pair reflect on their experiences driving Netflix-backed The Leopard adaptation and how it paves the way for further ambitious Italian-language productions.

With its majestic Sicilian landscapes, 19th-Century palace settings, sumptuous party scenes and ensemble cast led by Kim Rossi Stuart and Benedetta Porcaroli, this year’s Netflix-backed adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa’s historical novel The Leopard is one of Italy’s most ambitious costume dramas series to date.

The show, which launched on Netflix in March, was the brainchild of Indiana Production co-founder Fabrizio Donvito and the company’s Head of Film and TV Daniel Campos Pavoncelli.

The pair hatched...

ITV Studios has bought A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder producer Moonage Pictures.

The ITV production-distribution arm has taken a majority stake in Will Gould, Matthew Read and Frith Tiplady’s drama outfit, which also co-produced The Gentlemen and Netflix’s The Leopard. International distribution of new Moonage Pictures shows will be handled by ITV Studios.

The Gentlemen star teases 'darker' season 2 and gives exciting filming update
Image
Theo James is the talk of the town at the moment for his new comedy-horror The Monkey, but he's also got The Gentlemen fans buzzing with his latest season 2 tease. While major details are still under wraps, James' comments have only fueled anticipation for what’s next in the gritty, high-stakes world of the hit Netflix series.

The crime drama series premiered on Netflix in March 2024 and was an instant hit. Due to the success of the first season, Netflix went ahead and renewed the show for a second season in August 2024. Guy Ritchie’s 'The Gentlemen' Netflix Series Gets "Darker" Season 2 Tease
Image
Despite being left off of Netflix's upcoming 2025 slate of movies and television shows, Guy Ritchie's award-winning The Gentlemen spin-off is set to return to the streamer with Season 2. Boasting a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score from both audiences and critics alike, The Gentlemen was a worthy follow-up to the beloved original film of the same name, featuring a new cast and storyline that saw James Bond favorite Theo James front and center. With another season confirmed, The Gentlemen will be filming sooner than expected, but fans won't be having as much "fun" the second time around.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, The Monkey star Theo James was asked about the upcoming season of The Gentlemen. The actor confirmed that new episodes are set to film during this spring, while also teasing a different tone for Season 2. The first season was a fun, chaos-filled follow-up that captured the tone of the original film,...

Don't expect The Gentlemen season 2 to come out this year
Image
The crime drama The Gentlemen, which became a hit when it premiered last year on Netflix, has left fans eagerly awaiting its next season. In August 2024, Netflix renewed the series for a second installment, and viewers are excited to see what’s in store for their favorite characters. But unfortunately, it doesn't look like the crime drama series will be returning for its second season this year. The Gentlemen was noticeably absent from Netflix's 2025 lineup, leading many to believe that its second season won't be released until 2026.

Given that the crime drama was renewed in mid-2024, it initially seemed like there would be plenty of time for the filmmaking process for The Gentlemen season 2 to make a 2025 release. However, that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Production on The Gentlemen season 2 is reportedly set to start sometime in April this year and is expected to last for about four to eight months.

Guy Ritchies New Movie in the Vein of The Gentlemen Lands Benedict Cumberbatch & More
Image
Guy Ritchie is now assembling the cast for his next movie, and it could be the strongest group of actors yet. Across his career, Ritchie has worked with the likes of Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jake Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Henry Cavill, and the list goes on. So, how does he keep managing to assemble greater and greater casts for his movies?

Per Variety, Guy Ritchie is teaming up with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike, and an actor who needs no introduction, Anthony Hopkins, for his next film, Wife & Dog, which will continue Ritchie's trend of examining and dissecting the British aristocracy much like he did with The Gentlemen. In his early career, the director was obsessed with low-level cockney gangsters in London. However, recent years have seen Ritchie turn his attention to the wealthy elite.

TV’s Top Writers on What Makes a Comedy… a Comedy
Image
Labels like “comedy” and “drama” are fundamentally meaningless — except when it comes to TV awards, when the distinction can mean the difference between win and lose or a nomination and a snub. That’s why the denizens of Hollywood, eager to buck tradition and format for the sake of art most of the year, tend to lose their shit around Emmy season.

The annual debate resurfaced this past summer when The Bear scored 23 Emmy nominations and broke 30 Rock’s record for the most for a comedy in a single season. The genre, after all, was long-dominated by sitcoms — Frasier being the all-time Emmy with 37 wins, followed closely by The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Cheers. And while there’s no arguing that The Bear is an incredibly well-made piece of television, as evidenced by the eventual 11 wins in a diverse pool of categories, it’s not exactly brimming with levity.

While not all of Guy Ritchie's movies are to every action fan's liking, they do have a strong fanbase. They enjoy how Ritchie brings the British gangster to life in big ways. The Gentlemen was another high concept that focused on the corruption and sneaky deals that constitute the weed trade in England.

Netflix extended that 2019 movie into a series that detailed other empires in this same business. It had the energy of The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy, with many different parties jostling for power in the market. Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen Gets Renewed for a Second Season at Netflix
Image
Guy Ritchie has gotten his wish, as The Gentlemen has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. Featuring eight episodes in total, the series stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ritchie mainstay Vinnie Jones, to name a few.

Per Variety, The Gentlemen Season 2 will see the return of James and Scodelario, with Ritchie also returning as writer/director alongside co-writer Matthew Read. ‘The Gentlemen’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix
Giancarlo Esposito, Vinnie Jones, Kaya Scodelario, Theo James, Daniel Ings, and Michael Vu in The Gentlemen (2024)
Netflix has renewed Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen for a second season.

Ritchie, who set the TV show in the world of Miramax’s film of the same name, will return to direct the series, while Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings will reprise their starring roles. Additional casting for the second season hasn’t yet been announced.

The first season of The Gentlemen introduced James as Eddie Horniman as he unexpectedly became the new Duke of Halstead after inheriting his father’s sizable country estate. The snag is that the aristocratic pile came with an illegal weed farm run by ruthless Susie (Scodelario) and her crime boss father Bobby Glass, played by Ray Winstone.

Horniman became a reluctant yet genteel gangster and an ally of Susie as they faced down rival and hilarious gangster families in an equally back- and front-stabbing business world. The second season, to be...

Image
Get ready for another go-around with the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen. Variety has reported that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 2. In his review for season one, our own Alex Maidy said, “The Gentlemen series feels like a reimagining of the film. The story hits some vaguely similar notes but the vast majority is completely different. […] This is a unique reimagining of a successful story that takes it in a different direction and sets up future seasons.”

Netflix U.K.’s VP spoke ecstatically about the show’s successful first season, “With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, The Gentlemen was a huge hit with audiences in 2024. Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. ‘The Gentlemen’ Stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario & Daniel Ings Talk Prospect Of Second Season For Guy Ritchie’s Netflix Series — Contenders TV
Image
When Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy series The Gentlemen debuted on Netflix in March, it came in at #1 Global Top 10 for English-Language Series, garnering 1.2B minutes viewed in its first four days on the platform, according to Nielsen. That being said, will there be a Season 2?

“It wasn’t genuinely discussed,” star Theo James admitted today, in an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders TV. “I think it would be a wrangling process with all of us and Guy. But also, I think with a show like this, if you’re going to do more, you need to come up with a really interesting conceit for Season 2. Because as much as we enjoyed it and as fun as it was, it needs narrative drive.”

If an interesting idea is put forward, he said, then maybe another installment is in the cards. “But I think before that,” James added, “there needs to be discussions,...

The Gentlemen Review: Kaya Scodelario Steals The Show In Guy Ritchie's Underwhelming, Stylish Series
Image
The series from Ritchie and Read echoes The Gentlemen film. It's stylish and cool, but lacks character development. Theo James' Eddie lacks depth; Kaya Scodelario's Susie shines with complexity. Uneven but entertaining, The Gentlemen's focus on Susie and Eddie's power dynamic stands out.

Inspired by the 2019 film, The Gentlemen, the 2024 series of the same name from the minds of Guy Ritchie and Matthew Read, continues to explore the idea of grand English estates sitting on top of a lucrative underworld. While none of the characters or events of the film transfer over, the idea is that these two projects could exist in tandem.

6/10

Based on the film of the same name, the Gentlemen is a crime drama series created for Netflix by Guy Ritchie. The series follows Eddie Horniman, who inherits his father's estate, only to discover he has inherited a vast cannabis empire - and all of...

'The Gentlemen' Cast & Character Guide — Who Stars in the Netflix Series?
Image
In 2020, Guy Ritchie gave us a smashing black crime comedy in the form of The Gentlemen. And four years later, the cutting-edge filmmaker continues to tell that story in a series adaptation. Although The Gentlemen series is not a continuation of the film nor features its original characters and their arcs, it does explore the same crime landscape. The Netflix original spin-off series, written by Ritchie and Matthew Read of Peaky Blinders fame, tells the story of Eddie Horniman, who becomes the new Duke of Halstead after his father’s death and takes over his family business. When he discovers that behind the veneer of aristocracy, his father’s so-called “business” serves as a host (one of many) to Mickey Pearson’s cannabis empire, Eddie must take control of the operations or lose it to its treacherous investors who would stop at nothing to get Eddie out of the way.
