If you still remember teen fantasy shows like The Vampire Diaries and Riverdale that went on for far too long, even after their stories had no steam left, but you might not remember the shows in this list, as they had so much more story to tell, but they were canceled way too soon. Teen fantasy shows were all the rage in the 2010s and that’s why there were so many of them but most of them didn’t hit as hard as The Vampire Diaries or Teen Wolf, but that doesn’t mean that the shows that were canceled were not as good or even better then these two shows. That’s the reason why we decided to compile a list of seven great (or underrated) teen fantasy shows that had great potential but were canceled way too soon.

Christopher Andrews’s directorial debut tells an all-too-familiar Irish story about the dysfunctional relationship of rivaling farmers and the destruction that lies in their path as their feuds escalate. Featuring an excellent, albeit underused performance from Wolf Man’s Christopher Abbott alongside The Banshees of Inisherin’s Barry Keoghan, Bring Them Down’s dramatic storytelling will challenge audiences.
Michael (Abbott) is the last son of a family of sheepherders. His father (Colm Meany) is a curmudgeonly old man who abused Michael’s mother and perhaps indirectly led to her demise. Michael’s ex-girlfriend (Nora-Jane Noone) is married to a neighboring farmer, whose son (Keoghan) finds a fascination with Michael. The two begin a type of feud that slowly escalates to a violent and intense turn.

Christopher Abbott and Barry Keoghan argue over sheep in Christopher Andrews’ thriller. Here’s our Bring Them Down review.
Christopher Abbott has had a busy few months with recent appearances in Kraven The Hunter and Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. Writer-director Christopher Andrews’ Bring Them Down is a much smaller film than those, but has more power than the two aforementioned movies combined. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched it.
Abbott plays Michael, the last son of an Irish shepherding family. He’s weighed down by a car accident which killed his mother and injured his former girlfriend. He also looks after his ailing father. There’s constant competition and animosity between Michael’s family and the family next door, and when some of Michael’s sheep go missing and are found with their legs cut off, things quickly get out of hand.

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Mubi releases the film Friday, February 7, 2025.
The question will likely prickle the audience of Chris Andrews’ feature directorial debut “Bring Them Down” early and often: When, exactly, were these people fucked? Pardon our language, but if you balk at the use of the f-word to classify the miserable, bloody, meaningless lives of a pair of Irish sheep farmers and everyone around them — people who are well and truly fucked — than Andrews’ dismal Irish feature is not at all for you. Fans of dramas so dark and bitter that they make the most screwed-up parts of the Bible look funny and frisky? They’ll likely spark to what Andrews is dishing out here, but some questionable storytelling conceits eventually dilute even that power.
Things are already fraught when the film opens, as an SUV goes careening down an otherwise quiet Irish lane.

Mubi has unveiled a new clip from “Bring Them Down,” starring Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) and Christopher Abbott (“Poor Things”), ahead of its Feb. 7 theatrical release in the U.S., U.K., Mexico, Canada and Ireland.
The tense thriller, which marks the feature directorial debut of Christopher Andrews, follows two warring farming families in rural west Ireland. The story centers on Michael (Abbott), a reclusive farmer living with his ailing father Ray (Colm Meaney), whose ongoing conflict with rival farmer Gary (Paul Ready) and his unpredictable son Jack (Keoghan) escalates into a series of increasingly violent confrontations. The cast also includes Nora-Jane Noone (“The Magdalene Sisters”) as Caroline, Susan Lynch (“Ready Player One”) as Peggy, and Aaron Heffernan (“Brassic”) as Lee.

As improbable as it may seem, one of the best films out of South by Southwest last year was about rival sheep farmers in rural Ireland. It's also one of the most nuanced and provocative films about toxic masculinity in recent memory, and equally unsettling. Written and directed by Christopher Andrews (in his feature debut), Bring Them Down stars Christopher Abbott and Barry Keoghan as the sons of sheep farmers who stand to inherit their respective father's farms on either side of a shared hill.
When their long-simmering rivalry boils over, misunderstandings give way to misguided deeds and ill-conceived notions of revenge in a film that evokes the darkest of Joel and Ethan Coen's crime thrillers. Comparisons to the films of fellow Irishman Martin McDonagh seem inevitable, but Bring Them Down is bleaker and less sentimental than McDonagh's nastiest work.

This fervently acted Irish film about a dispute between farmers begins with some sheep rustling and ends in Peckinpah-esque violent horror
A tang of bad blood rises from this flawed revenge-feud drama set in the rural west of Ireland from first-time feature director Christopher Andrews, in which the audience might be shocked by male violence but are at the same time required to sympathise with the male characters’ inner wounded sensitivity. It’s strongly and fervently acted, but for me finally let down by a bizarre and almost farcical flourish of Peckinpah-esque violent horror, which undermines the accessible emotional reality of what has been happening, and which doesn’t quite do justice to the sustained effort required for a specific act of grotesque butchery.
The title refers at one level to a decision to bring livestock down from the grazing hillside to the fields, but also implies a terrible, willed catastrophe.

Set in rural west Ireland, writer-director Christopher Andrews’s pastoral thriller Bring Them Down features little in the way of spectacular set pieces. Nor does the film hinge on a classic battle between a hero and a villain. Its genre bona bides are mostly established by its tightly wound plot and characters whose psychologies have been warped in the conjunction of patriarchal traditions and the pressures of capitalism.
Ostensibly, Bring Them Down follows Michael (Christopher Abbot), the taciturn scion of a wealthy family that has herded sheep for centuries. His father, Ray (Colm Meaney), though immobilized by bad knees, still exercises the authority of a biblical patriarch. Michael’s childhood girlfriend, Caroline (Nora-Jane Noone)—having left him some 20 years before the present action, in the fallout from his mother’s death in a car accident, for which he was responsible—is now married to the spiteful and debt-burdened alcoholic Gary...

Bring Them Down, an upcoming revenge thriller starring Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man), just got a tense new trailer. Hailing from director Christopher Andrews, who is making his feature film directorial debut, Bring Them Down follows two farming families who clash in rural Ireland, leading to a back-and-forth game of revenge and the reckoning of a dark past. "I told you to kill them." Mubi has debuted the full official trailer for Bring Them Down, an Irish thriller about rival families. This initially premiered at the TIFF & Fantastic Fest & London Film Festivals last year, now set for a US debut in February. An Irish shepherding family thrust into battle on several fronts: internal strife, hostility within the family, rivalry with another farmer. Paternalism, heritage, and the generational trauma cycle through the cultural prism of Ireland. TIFF adds: "Bring Them Down bristles with twists and tension, its gorgeous pastoral landscapes turning into sites of escalating violence. Yet the film never settles for simplistic hero/villain binaries. Instead, brilliantly shifts perspective, revealing the fears and aspirations driving all its characters — a strategy that succeeds in no small part due to Abbott and Keoghan, who share an incredible ability to reveal for the camera what their characters are hell-bent on hiding.

Barry Keoghan battling Christopher Abbott in his native Irish countryside? No, this isn’t an expansion of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” music video: It’s “Bring Them Down,” writer/director Chris Andrews’ latest revenge drama that premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

"Look what you've done Michael!" Mubi has unveiled a quick teaser for Bring Them Down, a new Irish thriller about families from filmmaker Chris Andrews. This recently premiered at TIFF and Fantastic Fest this fall, plus Beyond Fest and London and a few others.

Barry Keoghan has gone from relative unknown to incredible Hollywood talent in a few short years. Having appeared in Marvels Eternals, had a very brief appearance as Joker in The Batman, and licked a bath plughole in ways we dont want to think about in Saltburn, the actors new movie, Bring Them Down, has just released a blood-soaked and brutal look at his violent revenge thriller.

Every so often, there comes a film that sticks with you long after your first viewing. For me, that film is Christopher Andrews directorial debut, Bring Them Down, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. The story chronicles a turf war between neighboring families in a rural Ireland town, where trauma, desperation, and revenge are at the forefront. Featuring an exceptional Christopher Abbott performance and stunning cinematography from Nick Cooke, the film reveals the ugly side of survival and proving your worth. Bring Them Down is 105 minutes worth of violence and misery, but its great storytelling, nonetheless.

A brutally violent directorial debut, Christopher Andrews’ rural Irish drama “Bring Them Down” veers between pitch-black humor and pervading melancholy. A tale of fathers, sons, and mutilated sheep, it toys with narrative point of view in “Rashomon”-like fashion, but keeps pressing questions of masculinity and cycles of sadness hovering just out of view. Fittingly, like its emotionally stunted male characters, it doesn’t confront these notions head on, but lets them quietly build in the form of a simmering blood feud that feels all-encompassing in the moment, but upon taking a step back, reveals a pitiable quality.
A brief but distressing prologue — told through alternating chaos and silence — reveals a car crash. Michael (Christopher Abbott), upon finding out that his mother had planned to leave his father, sped off in a fit of uncontrollable emotion and swerved off the road. His mother, in the passenger’s seat, was killed on impact.

Christopher Andrews’ Bring Them Down is an endurance test with no payoff. Opening with a jarring car crash on a windy road in rural Ireland, the film soon adds scenes of gruesome animal cruelty, an ear literally being blown off someone’s head, and then further sequences of gruesome animal cruelty. Such onscreen acts can be tremendously moving, of course, when presented in great films––Andrea Arnold’s 2021 documentary Cow a recent example.
Bring Them Down is not a great film. It’s occasionally compelling thanks to its haunting, almost otherworldly locations in Ireland. Mainly, though, what stands out are performances of the ever-intense Christopher Abbott, Nora-Jane Noone, and, most notably, Barry Keoghan. But the actors serve a drama that is relentlessly violent and thoroughly unpleasant. It’s a testament to these performers that they make so much of so little.

There are some actors who, no matter how shaky the film around them may be, can hold your attention and never let go. Lucky for “Bring Them Down,” it has two of the very best in Christopher Abbott (“It Comes at Night”) and Barry Keoghan (“Bird”) to hold this rather bloody mess together. Without them, there’s a good chance the whole thing would simply go to pieces as this is a thriller about two feuding families so perpetually grim it risks becoming a slog. Director Chris Andrews has made a fraught feature debut that drags you through scenes of gruesome violence multiple times over, hammering you over the head with how bleak it all is to an almost comically unsubtle degree. The saving grace of the film’s world comes in the form of its two leads who, despite all the drudgery that they must push through, create something gripping.

You’ll never quite look at shepherding the same way after watching Bring Them Down, debuting writer-director Christopher Andrews’ pitch-dark drama about two Irish farmers engaged in a long and bloody turf war. Relentlessly bleak, with more livestock gore than any movie in recent memory — the film that comes the closest is fellow Irish director Billy O’Brien’s 2005 bovine thriller, Isolation — this violent first feature is carried more by leads Christopher Abbott and Barry Keoghan than by its dour storytelling.
The two compelling actors play herders struggling to get by in the muddy hills of west Ireland, where a longtime feud between their families degenerates into an all-out dogfight (or is that a sheep-fight?). The battle more or less kicks off as soon as the movie starts, and one problem with Bring Them Down is how we’re directly plunged into a conflict whose key players we know little about.

The first season of AMC's acclaimed horror anthology series, The Terror, is making waves on Netflix. According to ReelGood, The Terror landed in the tenth spot among the top shows across all streaming platforms for the week of August 22 through 28. Netflix (which holds the most subscribers of any streaming service) is introducing the series to wider audiences, which is being discovered, or rediscovered in some cases, six years after its original premiere. It's all in good timing, too, as The Terror was greenlit for a third season in February.

"The Terror" is a prestigious AMC horror anthology series with exceptional ensemble casts in varying historical settings. Season 1 follows the Arctic expedition of Hms Terror and Erebus, while Season 2 explores Japanese folklore during WWII. Lead actors like Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciarn Hinds have made significant contributions to the series.
AMC's The Terror is a supernatural horror anthology series with outstanding ensemble casts in both of its current seasons. Like HBO and FX, AMC is known for its prestige quality television, bringing ultra-talented casts together for distinct, engaging stories. 2018's The Terror is an outstanding example that somehow managed to fly under the radar. Now that it's gaining traction on Netflix, there's hope that The Terror season 3 will be a hit, particularly after star Dan Stevens signed on to be the new season's lead.
As mentioned, The Terror is an anthology series, meaning each season has a different cast of characters.
