Following its premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last year, the critically acclaimed Superboys of Malegaon is now officially streaming on Prime Video, and ahead of its debut, we were able to catch up with producer Zoya Akhtar (Gully Boy; Dahaad; Kho Gaye Hum Kahan) and stars Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger; Extrapolations; Hostel Daze) and Vineet Kumar Singh (Mukkabaaz; Gangs of Wasseypur; Betaal) to talk about the incredible film, which is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, that adapts the true life story of filmmaker Nasir Shaikh and his friends.

In our conversation, Akhtar talks me through the magic of filmmaking and why this kind of story will always resonate, while Gourav and Singh elaborate on their different approaches for their respective characters, and how they were able to play proper homage to the real-life people while also leaving their own mark on the parts.

Speaking with the quartet, Kagti explains what initially inspired her to turn the 2008 documentary into a full-fledged feature film and how this particular story can resonate with audiences of all ages.

“Superboys of Malegaon” is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 13, followed by its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 10.

The film, inspired by the real-life experiences of amateur filmmaker Nasir Sheikh, is set in the small town of Malegaon, Maharashtra in western India. The residents of the town look to Bollywood cinema for a much needed escape from daily drudgery. Nasir gets inspired to make a film for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon. He bands together his ragtag group of friends to bring his vision to life, thereby bringing a fresh lease of life into the town. The story explores themes of friendship, creativity, and perseverance in the face of challenges.

Reema along with her frequent collaborator Zoya Akhtar attended Prime Video’s slate announcement event, ‘Prime Video Presents’ on Tuesday.

The two are bringing the documentary series ‘In Transit’, which brings stories of the LGBTQ+ community to the fore.

Reema told the media at the event: “You can’t write real people, you have to find them. ‘In Transit’ has been a journey of exploring such real people and sharing their stories.”

Zoya said: “We share our space with so many people. We have explored such characters in fiction. With ‘In Transit’ we wanted to bring their real stories to the forefront, stories about their courage, their resilience and their joy.”

Netflix has released a new trailer for The Archies, an upcoming Indian adaptation of Archie's adventures with the Riverdale gang, which will launch in December 2023 on the streaming platform.

Netflix dropped the trailer on YouTube for The Archies, a musical set in the 1960s. The film explores friendship, freedom, love, heartbreak, and rebellion through the lens of the Anglo-Indian community. As gleaned from the trailer, the movie will be a classic Archie story. Archie will juggle his fledgling relationships with Betty and Veronica, while Veronica's father threatens to destroy a local park to build a hotel in town. Bret Baier’s recent Fox News interview with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman took up less than 36 minutes on the cable outlet’s “Special Report.” Behind the scenes, preparations took months.

Baier spent time in the U.S. with Princess Reema, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, and made a special trip overseas to meet with various ministers and the head of state himself to test their rapport. “I went over on a flier,” says Baier during an interview in Fox News Channel’s New York offices. “I said there was not going to be any laying out of what the questions are, that it was going to be tough but fair. Mumbai, Aug 3 (Ians) BAFTA-nominated actor Adarsh Gourav will be joining Reema Kagti’s next movie, Superman of Malegaon, which is based on the Malegaon film industry.

He said it is one of the most underrated film industries that churns out some fun films with a 100 per cent business return.

Malegaon Film Industry, a.k.a Malliwood, might not be as big as Bollywood but their movies are made with so much passion. They are known to make low-budgeted spoof movies.

Filmmaker Reema Kagti, who has created the show ‘Made In Heaven’ with Zoya Akhtar, has finally shared the reason as to why the second season took four years to be made. Reema was present at the trailer launch of the second season of the show.

She said: “The reason we took a lot of time to come up with season 2 is because we were pushing the envelope with regards to the show’s writing. Crafting a compelling narrative and characters does take time.

The trailer for the second season of the International Emmy nominated show, ‘Made in Heaven’, which was unveiled on Tuesday promises riveting storytelling laced with grandeur, drama, dark secrets, and the societal problems that cut across the spectrum and class.

The trailer was launched at a five star property in Mumbai’s Santa Cruz area and saw a heartfelt performance by the band Bombay Brass on the beautifully decorated set ahead of its launch.

Mumbai, May 26 (Ians) Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who has been receiving a lot of positive response for her streaming show ‘Dahaad’, recently gifted a painting to the show’s creators Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti as a gesture of gratitude. The painting is of a tiger looking blankly at the viewer.

Mumbai, May 6 (Ians) Actor Vijay Varma worked closely with the costume designer of the series ‘Dahaad’ to ensure that even in his costume, he exudes the mysterious energy surrounding his role of Anand. He said that he wanted the base of his character on reptile-like energy.

The actor said, “The outfits were very meticulously designed. The costume designer, Smriti Chauhan, worked very closely with me, because I felt and wanted to base my character on a reptile-like energy.”

“So all my shirts have a vertical pattern on front or back to create an illusion like a chameleon or a snake. This is one of the improvisations that I did with my character, apart from digging deeper into watching crime-thriller documentaries suggested by Reema to understand the psyche of Anand.”

Mumbai, May 3 (Ians) Actor Vijay Varma, who will soon be seen in the upcoming streaming series ‘Dahaad’, has said that it’s always endearing to collaborate with filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti and working on ‘Dahaad’ was truly an amazing experience for the actor in him.

Speaking at the trailer launch of the series on Wednesday, the actor told the media, “I’m a spaceship, and I keep going back to the mothership of Zoya and Reema. I have worked with them in ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Mirzapur’, this is my third project with them”.

He mentioned that the creative energies of both Zoya and Reema help him push the envelope and explore the finer nuances about his work.

Filmmaker-actor-singer Farhan Akhtar, who is all set to make a comeback as a director after a decade, has started scouting for locations for his upcoming film ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ starring Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.

Farhan took to social media and shared a picture of himself as he started looking for locations in Rajasthan. He posted a photo in which he stood in a desert.
