Will Reeve, the youngest son of the late Christopher Reeve, has chosen a different career path from his father, best known for playing Supermanin four movies in the franchise from 1978 to 1987. The younger Reeve does have a cameo in the forthcoming Superman movie, but normally, one will find him in his job as an ABC News correspondent (and not at the Daily Planet like Clark Kent).
Reeve appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark on Feb. 21 and touched on why he wouldn’t want to play Superman on the big screen, and said he’s never been asked to do so.“No, I’ve never gotten the ask. I learned at an early age from my parents, who were both accomplished performers, that in order to succeed in entertainment, or really anything, but certainly in entertainment, you need the craft like you need air to breathe,”Reeve said.

Taking on any superhero role is quite a commitment, as actors are tasked with representing some of the most courageous figures in storytelling. One of the most iconic actors to play a comic-book vigilante is the late Christopher Reeve. He was cast in 1978's Superman and proved to be perfect casting as Clark Kent. His take on this classic DC hero has been celebrated by audiences ever since Richard Donner's cinematic masterpiece was released. Fans were left distraught when Christopher Reeve was left paralyzed by a horse riding accident on May 27, 1995. This tragic occurrence is the main inspiration behind Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. Directed by documentary filmmakers Peter Ettedgul and Ian Bonhote, the movie is a beautiful portrait of Christopher Reeve's story as both an actor and a disability activist.

Although superhero serials and TV shows had been around for decades prior, Richard Donner’s 1978 version of Superman marked the first major, studio-funded DC feature film in Hollywood. The film’s commercial and critical success led to Richard Lester’s acclaimed follow-up, Superman II, solidifying the late great Christopher Reeve as a cinematic symbol of truth, justice, and hope. Over 25 years later, the events of the ridiculous follow-ups, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, were bypassed by Bryan Singer to accommodate Superman Returns, arguably ranking among the finest cinematic showcases for Clark Kent to prove his protective might. Sure, the movie isn’t as fun-filled or enjoyable as a children’s superhero outing should be, but, as far as restoring the luster into Superman’s cape and proving the comic book hero’s box office viability, Superman Returns did its job. At least, that’s how most critics and general moviegoers felt.

Plot: A deep dive into the life of Christopher Reeve, from his overnight stardom as Superman through to his life after the tragic accident which left him a person with quadriplegia.
Review: When I heard Sundance would be showing a documentary about the life of Christopher Reeve, I correctly assumed that it wouldn’t leave a dry eye in this house whenever it was screened. Indeed, as the premiere screening wound up, the sobs from the audience were pronounced, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is certainly a heartbreaking experience. Now that the film is getting a limited theatrical run (from Fathom Events), with an expansion rumoured for later this month, fans everywhere will get to shed a tear and be inspired by this icon.

It’s not a particularly pointed question, even from someone like David Letterman, who could certainly get pointed: “Has anything interesting come of that relationship?”
It was 1982, and the “Late Night” host was asking his guest, Christopher Reeve, in his first appearance on the show, about his relationship with Marlon Brando on the set of Richard Donner’s 1978 hit “Superman.” Reeve, shockingly, instead of just saying something like, “He’s a legend” and moving on, decided to give an honest answer.
“I must say,” he responded, in that mannered yet serious tone only Reeve could really pull off. “I don’t say this to be vicious: I don’t worship at the altar of Marlon Brando, because I feel that he’s copped out, in a certain way.” Reeve went on to explain: “He doesn’t care anymore.”

Now, Will is opening up about becoming an orphan at 13. He shared in the interview, “Despite the love and security that my siblings provided me, and my family provided me, and my adoptive family provides me, that was the moment, March 6, 2006 … I’ve been alone since then.” His older half-siblings stepped in to help raise him. Superman star Christopher Reeve‘s career was cut short in 1995, when he was involved in a horse-riding accident that resulted in his becoming paralyzed from the neck down — an injury so severe that he wondered if there was a point to carrying on. In the film, Christopher’s son Will Reeve, who was only about 12 years old when his father died, opened up about the first person to visit his dad in the hospital after his accident: none other than actor and comedian Robin Williams. James Gunn Gushes About Emotional Christopher Reeve Documentary Super/Man After It's Acquired by Wbd
James Gunn praises the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story and calls it a "stunningly beautiful" and emotional film. The documentary explores Christopher Reeve's rise to fame as Superman and his 1995 accident that led to a spinal injury. Reeve's family participated in the documentary and the film is expected to be available on the Max streaming service in the future.
After the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story was acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn opened up about the moving and heartfelt film. The documentary is about Christopher Reeve, who starred in the 1978 Superman movie along with three sequels. Gunn is currently working on his own Superman film for the DC Universe titled Superman: Legacy. Now that Warner Bros. Discovery has officially acquired the documentary following its debut at Sundance, Gunn has given some of his thoughts on Super/Man.

Having just attended the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, I can testify that none of the movies I saw here received the overwhelming emotional reaction that Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story did. You can read my review here but suffice to say the legendary actor-turned-advocate was done right by this crowdpleaser. As such, it’s about to set a record for the highest price ever paid for a documentary at the festival. Indeed, Warner Bros is set to acquire the film for a record $15 million.
To be sure, this acquisition makes perfect sense. Warner Bros is the studio behind all of Christopher Reeve’s Superman films, and with that series figuring so heavily into the doc, it’s no wonder the studio would be eager to pick it up. With James Gunn’s Superman movie on the way, the older DC library is ripe for reexamination, and this documentary gives younger viewers,...

Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story recounts and examines the incredibly compelling, tragic, redemptive story of actor and activist Christopher Reeve. He was made famous playing the superhero Superman in Richard Donner/Richard Lester/Sidney J. Furie’s quartet of films in the ’70s and ’80s. In 1995, Reeve was paralyzed from the neck down after being thrown from a horse during a competition. That terrible accident eventually sparked the creation of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a non-profit whose goal is to cure spinal-cord injury and improve the quality of life for those with paralysis.
It’s hard to write criticism of films like these. Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is an important movie about an important subject, supported by those closest to him––in this case, Reeve’s grown-up children Matthew, Alexandra, and Will. Bonhôte and Ettedgui are accomplished documentarians (see their...

For the release of Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" in 1978, an ingenious ad campaign was launched that centered around promising audiences something no movie could hope to deliver. "You'll Believe A Man Can Fly," read the tagline on the one-sheets, supplemented by a beautifully evocative painting of clouds and the "S" shield logo. As audacious as this campaign was, it nonetheless was part of the ethos surrounding the film and the depiction of the titular character. While it's true that certain visual effects techniques were developed to make the flying sequences in "Superman" try and live up to such a promise, Donner knew that the element he really had to focus on was casting the part. If audiences believed in the man, they'd believe he was flying.
As fate would have it, Donner found the perfect Superman (not to mention Clark Kent) in Christopher Reeve, a then-unknown Juilliard graduate...

Superman star Christopher Reeve would have turned 68 today, and friend Meryl Streep is remembering the late actor and his wife Dana in an emotional video posted online by their charity group, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. For decades, the group has worked to find treatments and cures for paralysis from spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders. Though the Reeves are no longer with us, Streep encourages people to donate to the cause, detailing how important the organization's mission is to the Reeve family.

To offer greater support and strengthen peer connections across families impacted by paralysis, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation launched a new online community, Reeve Connect.
The forum will serve as a virtual home base for individuals living with paralysis, as well as their caregivers and family members to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others who understand the everyday challenges and intimate realities of paralysis. This project was made possible through a cooperative agreement with the Administration for Community Living (Acl).
Reeve Connect aims to combat feelings of isolation that are all too common across the paralysis community. With over 560,000 individuals with disabilities never leaving their homes, many individuals living with paralysis rely on digital connections and online communities as their social outlets.
“Navigating paralysis requires a constant lifeline of support. Whether you are newly diagnosed or living with paralysis for some time, there are always new questions and...

When considering that this week would have been Christopher Reeve's 66th birthday, we find ourselves reflecting on an interview he gave in which a reporter asked, “How do you define a hero?” Christopher considered the question a moment before responding. Finally he noted, “For me, personally, a hero is somebody who will make sacrifices for others without expecting a reward.” “Superman is all that,” mused the interviewer. “That’s what I try to play,” Christopher replied. Then came the biggie: “How about Christopher Reeve? Is he a hero?" The answer was an honest one. “I don’t know,” he said. “I can’t start leaping to those conclusions.” (Photo Credit: Warner Bros) Thankfully, the rest of the world can and did, given the global response to the actor’s passing on Oct. 10, 2004, nearly a decade after the horseback riding accident that paralyzed him from the neck down. Lesser men might have given up,...

Glenn Close says that Christopher Reeve and Robin Williams' friendship was so strong that she believes if the Superman star was still alive, he could have saved Williams.
The 70-year-old actress got emotional while delivering a touching speech at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation's annual "A Magical Evening" Gala in New York City on Thursday, where she reflected on the late actors and her friendship with them both.
"My first connection to Christopher Reeve was through Robin Williams, when we were shooting The World According to Garp.
