‘Kaiju No. 8’ Season 2 Is Already Struggling to Keep Up With Other Anime
Image
Kaiju No. 8 season 2 was supposed to debut with a bang. Yet, right off the bat, it is apparent that the sequel series will struggle to find its footing in the highly competitive summer 2025 anime season. The anime is debuting almost three weeks into July, at a time when most of its competitors have already found their appropriate fanbase.

Yet, its late release is the least of the anime’s problems. Episode 1 of season 2 adds too many anime-original sequences, and unfortunately, not all of them serve a purpose. The episode feels padded out with fillers instead of scenes that will actually progress the plot.

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Starts off on the Wrong Foot Kaiju No. 8 season 2 begins with anime original scenes | Credits: Production I.G.

Episode 1 of Kaiju No. 8 season 2 begins with an anime-original scene showing a flashback from Kafka’s Pov. It features Kafka and Mina as kids.

Reno 911! Cast: Where The Actors Are Now
Image
"Reno 911!" was a satirical take on "Cops," the popular reality docuseries following real cops in the line of duty, making arrests and chasing "bad guys." Airing originally on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009, "Reno 911!" took the bumbling cop trope to its logical conclusion, portraying the officers of the fictional Reno Sheriff's Department as incompetent stooges. The show existed within the peak of crude, offensive comedy that dominated the 2000s; it featured politically incorrect skits that dealt with race, gender, sex work, and mental illness. Though much of the depiction of mental illness did not age well, a majority of the comedy is strangely still funny. The comedy of "Reno" still elicits chuckles by today's standards due to society's evolved perception of police. After about 15 years of police brutality and misconduct cases, it feels nice to laugh at ineffective or downright problematic police work in a low-stakes way via the cast's antics.

Image
Fans of Kaiju No. 8 still have a month ahead of them until they can finally press play on the highly anticipated Season 2 of the series. In order to help make the wait easier, Crunchyroll decided to give fans a little treat at the beginning of the summer. This week, the streaming platform announced that the series' special episode, "Hoshina's Day Off," will debut in the library on July 5.

The special episode was first exhibited in movie theaters along with the compilation film Kaiju No.8: Mission Recon. Since it's part of neither Season 1 nor Season 2, fans didn't know if they'd have a chance to check it out when it left theaters. Recently, it was announced that the episode would be streamed live for one night only on Twitter/X, but dub and subtitles info was not revealed. Now, with a Crunchyroll release, fans know that they will be able to...

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Kaiju No. 8 had a blockbuster season 1, after which it was renewed for a sequel. The anime has found its right audience, and everyone is excited to see what happens in Kaiju No. 8 season 2. In the finale of the previous season, Kafka was finally able to find his place in the Third Division without having to hide his identity any longer.

Season 2 will mark a turning point in the series as there will be much less fun and games now. There will be more exploration into the psyche of the main characters, including and not restricted to Kafka, Reno, Kikoru, Iharu, Hoshina, and Gen Narumi.

There are plenty of new characters who will steal the spotlight, and the fights will extend way beyond the Third Division. Some of the divisions will have to come together for an epic battle as Kaiju No. 9 will arrange for the biggest showdown in the upcoming season.

Naoya Matsumoto Cannot Undo One Major Mistake He Made With ‘Kaiju No. 8’
Image
Last year, Naoya Matsumoto announced that Kaiju No. 8 is finally creeping towards its finale with the Last Wave arc. Fans were not sure how to handle the news as they thought there would be more to the series. Nonetheless, they had to accept it. It has been close to a year since the first announcement, and the manga is ready to close its doors with just a few more chapters.

But not everyone is satisfied with the hasty decision. A year went by, and the manga has only covered one singular fight, making fans think that the conclusion might not be the justice that the series deserves.

True ‘Hunter X Hunter’ Fans Know ‘Kaiju No. 8’s Release Schedule Didn’t Lead to Its Unfortunate Downfall
Image
Kaiju No. 8 emerged as a refreshing experience right when fans were looking for the next big shonen thing, as it redefined the whole experience. Fans appreciated the story’s unique aspects, and it took off on a great note. However, there has been an evident dip in quality over the last few arcs.

Many believe that the release schedule is the primary reason behind the downfall, but we already have Hunter x Hunter. Despite the erratic schedule, the manga maintains a strong presence among fans. That tells us that the release schedule might not be the only thing sabotaging Kaiju No. 8’s potential.

“Everybody Has an Opinion!”: Parker Posey, Kathy Bates, Niecy Nash-Betts Get Real on THR’s Drama Actress Roundtable

Niecy Nash-Betts was almost exclusively known for punchlines before she called a meeting at her agency, a reintroduction, as she puts it, to set her career on a different course. “All I was ever doing was comedy,” says the Grotesquerie actress. “So I told them, ‘Here is how I see myself. And if you don’t see me how I see myself, then we are not aligned.’ “

Anime of the Year 2025 Nominee Spotlight: Kaiju No. 8
Image
Kaiju No. 8 was an unexpected anime-watching experience for me. Initially, I thought it’d be an uber-serious story about a guy using his newfound Kaiju abilities to wage war on the very thing he had become. That’s not to say the anime doesn’t have its serious moments, but when you tell me the protagonist becomes the very thing he wants to destroy, I expect an angry, bitter fighter who swears on his deceased loved one’s grave that he’ll kill every last Kaiju in existence. Kafka Hibino is not that guy, which is what makes Kaiju No. 8 such a special entry in the ever-growing library of shonen anime. It’s no surprise that it’s up for Anime of the Year at the 2025 Anime Awards . ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ recap: Uh-oh … one queen gives a Reno performance during Vegas week
Image
Heading into the 14th episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, RuPaul Charles had just given a "double shantay" to bottom two queens Onya Nurve and Jewels Sparkles, meaning nobody went home. That decision left five people still in the competition, with the others being Lexi Love, Sam Star, and Suzie Toot.

Kaiju No. 8 stomps into theaters in just nine days! For those wondering if it’d be sub-only, the answer is nope…a trailer for the English dub version appeared today. In a world where kaiju are constantly emerging and causing chaos, civilization’s most vital organization are the members of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. It’s Kafka Hibino’s biggest dream to join the force, but he’s failed every entry test he’s taken. Sweet and Sour (1984)
Love It or Hate It: Our Favorite Valentine’s Day and Anti-Valentine’s Day Indies
Sweet and Sour (1984)
To put it bluntly, Valentine’s Day is perhaps the most awkward national holiday. On the one hand you have lovely and joyful romantic partners eager to get their plans started, and on the other hand you have lovely but dissatisfied singles preparing to witness all the plans in action, right? No! There are also people who get together with their palentines and do something quiet or have an absolute rager, people who go to bars or clubs or parties for the sake of a good time, people who visit loved ones—who may have lost loved ones—to offer comfort and company, etc. Then, there are those of us die-hard cinephiles who don’t have a fulfilling holiday without popping in a film or two. Whether you have a valentine, palentine, or you’re a singleton, there’s something for everyone to enjoy under the “Sweet and Sour” sublist,...

The Buzziest Films for Sale at EFM 2025: A Samuel L. Jackson Hitman Thriller, Barry Keoghan-Riley Keough Collab, Isabelle Huppert Vampire Mystery and More
Image
As the European Film Market kicks off Feb. 13 in Berlin with a new market head, Tanja Meissner, at the helm, this year’s buzziest titles suggest the industry will be looking toward tried-and-true genre fare and splashy, star-driven packages to thaw the winter chill.

Bankable stars are expected to heat things up in Berlin, with Ari Aster and A24’s “Eddington”, Guy Ritchie’s “Wife & Dog”, Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller and Kantemir Balagov’s “Butterfly Jam” showcasing how marquee names remain a safe bet as uncertainty continues to reign in the theatrical market.

On the genre side of things, horror is still expected to scare up sales, with buyers looking to sink their fangs into Isabelle Huppert’s 16th-century vampire mystery “The Blood Countess” and Jacob Chase’s killer canine genre-bender “Bad Boy,” starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Meanwhile, comedy could be making a comeback,...

John Frankenheimer
Ronin (1998) Movie Review: When Actions and Words Speak Together
John Frankenheimer
Legendary director John Frankenheimer’s penultimate effort, “Ronin” (1998) finds him returning to firm action-thriller footing after the disaster of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” remake. But what’s most interesting about the film is that noted playwright and screenwriter (and director) David Mamet worked as a script doctor. As such, you’re left with an interesting hybrid of wordplay, plotting, and muscular action filmmaking. Frankenheimer, whose career dates to Hollywood’s golden age and who made several interesting and intelligent political thrillers in the 60s and 70s and Mamet’s dialogue-driven formation make a fascinating pairing.

Mamet chose to write under a pseudonym after not receiving sole credit, but his fingerprints are unmistakable all the same as his word plays and sly deconstruction of the action genre plays counterpoint to Frankenheimer’s straightforward presentation. In principle, these two contrasting approaches may have canceled each other out, but while they don’t sit perfectly together,...

Michael Moriarty remembered his exit from NBC’s Law & Order very differently from other accounts of Dick Wolf and other crew members. According to Moriarty, he rage-quit the series over then-Attorney General Janet Reno’s comments on the show’s violent content. However, Wolf later revealed that his firing did not have anything to do with Reno.
