Indiana Jones Star John Rhys-Davies on Filming Challenges and Dark Deleted Scene in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' [Exclusive]
Image
The adventures of Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones (Harrison Ford) have taken the brave archaeologist all around the globe, and it's made for five unforgettable feature films. Of course, everything started with Steven Spielberg's 1981 masterpiece, Raiders of the Lost Ark, which remains the gold standard for action-adventure filmmaking to this very day. In addition to the jaw-dropping action sequences and frequent punching of Nazis, one of the best additions to the then-just-starting franchise was Sallah, played by the great John Rhys-Davies.

Having starred in three Indiana Jones movies and three Lord of the Rings movies, Rhys-Davies is no stranger to difficult shooting conditions. While asked by Collider's Steve Weintraubat Fan Expo Boston about which scene or movie was the hardest to film, John Rhys-Davies said "They're all hard," but also opened up about the particularly grueling shooting of Raiders of the Lost Ark, which, according to him, left Rhys-Davies...

John Rhys-Davies Reveals Gruesome Makeup Process for Gimli in The Lord of the Rings [Exclusive]
Image
Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy may be the best and most iconic fantasy epic saga ever conceived, but it was not the easiest production to pull off. The approximately nine-hour saga (twelve if we're talking about the extended editions) was a notoriously difficult shoot, with one of the most infamous examples of that being when Viggo Mortensen broke two of his toes while filming The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. It's just one example of many, and one actor who remembers the experience of making the epic saga in extreme detail is none other than Gimli himself, John Rhys-Davies.

The Indiana Jones franchise star has always been vocal about his love and reverence for working on Peter Jackson's adaptation ofJ.R.R. Tolkien's iconic work. However, while speaking with Collider's Steve Weintraub at Fan Expo Boston, John Rhys-Davies went into truly excruciating detail...

Lord of the Rings Star Reveals Why He Thinks There's 'No Future for Actors’
Image
Throughout his career, actor John Rhys-Davies has appeared in two of the biggest blockbuster franchises ever: Peter Jackson'sThe Lord of the Ringstrilogy and theIndiana Jones films. However, the actor, appearing at a recent convention, warned attendees about the future when it comes to the use of a certain technology.

“There is no future for actors,” Rhys-Davies said during his panel. The actor then continued on a deep dive regarding AI and how it’s evolved over the years. “I know a little bit about science,” Rhys-Davies began. “I work for Mars sometimes, and (I’m a part) of the Astronomical Society. ‘Lord of the Rings’ Star Sounds the Alarm on AI: “There Are Multiple Demons Being Created as We Speak”
Image
At this weekend’s FanX Tampa Bay Comic Convention, John Rhys-Davies, famous for playing Gimli in Lord of the Rings, gave a pretty grim warning about artificial intelligence and what it means for the future, not just for actors, but for all of us.

During his panel, he didn’t hold back, saying plainly, “There is no future for actors.” This wasn’t just a throwaway line; he went on to talk about how AI is developing fast and could eventually leave humans behind.

Rhys-Davies isn’t just an actor—he’s also interested in science and astronomy, and he made it clear he’s been following AI closely. He said, “I know a little bit about science. I work for Mars sometimes, and [I’m a part] of the Astronomical Society. We are creating a new species, a species that has almost infinite growth potential.”

He mentioned hearing from AI experts who are worried,...

He didn’t hold back when talking about artificial intelligence (AI), saying flat out, “There is no future for actors.” His message shook up fans who had come hoping to hear some fun stories about Middle-earth.

Rhys-Davies, who is not only an actor but also passionate about science and astronomy, said he knows a bit about these subjects and even works with the Astronomical Society.

'Lord of the Rings' Star Claims "There Is No Future for Actors"
Image
Lord of the Rings legend John Rhys-Davies didn’t mince words during his panel at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention this weekend, offering a bleak assessment of artificial intelligence’s trajectory — not just for Hollywood, but for the entire human race. “There is no future for actors,” Rhys-Davies said during his discussion with fans, before diving into an alarming reflection on the evolution of AI and its potential to outpace humanity. Quite the occasion for fans who just wanted to say "...and my axe!"

‘Rick and Morty’ Brought in A ‘Lord of the Rings’ Actor for A Throwaway Part in the Season Finale
Image
The Rick and Morty Season Eight finale, “Hot Rick,” capped off a year of spectacular guest stars by bringing in a core Lord of the Rings cast member to play… Rick’s sort-of-girlfriend’s dad?

Last week’s Rick and Morty episode, “Morty Daddy,” brought It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day into the Adult Swim sci-fi comedy’s official canon. Following the episode’s premiere, many of the TV comedy watchers who fall in the very large intersection on the Venn diagram of Rick and Morty and Always Sunny fandoms wondered if Dan Harmon’s series would honor the “comedy comes in threes” rule and introduce another member of the Paddy’s Pub Gang into the Rick and Morty universe during tonight’s hotly anticipated finale.

Well, “Hot Rick” didn’t feature Rob Mac, Glenn Howerton or Kaitlin Olson, but it did score an appearance from an...

The Forgotten '80s Indiana Jones Rip-Off That Featured An Actor From The Franchise
Image
Steven Spielberg's 1981 adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was a retro film by design. Set in 1936, "Raiders" is about a brave male adventurer, Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones (Harrison Ford), who seeks to retrieve the legendary Ark of the Covenant (described in the Bible) before the then-active Nazis can seize it as their own. Spielberg was making a slicker, modern version of the 1930s adventure serials he remembered seeing in theaters as a boy, and "Raiders" includes car chases, fistfights, lairs of snakes, mystical spelunking, and a climax where a Nazi army is evaporated by the wrath of God. It's a good flick. Everyone remembers it. There was even a "Young Indiana Jones" prequel TV series and four theatrical sequels, the last of which, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," was released in 2023.

However, "Raiders" also spawned a mini-trend in cinema that is less well-remembered. Indiana Jones knockoffs...

Gimli Actor Reveals One Of His Most Hilarious Lines Was Improvised In Lord Of The Rings
Image
The Lord of the Rings star John Rhys-Davies revealed that one of his most hilarious and memorable lines was improvised. Appearing in the celebrated Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies, Rhys-Davies portrays Gimli, a dwarf who accompanies Legolas and more on numerous endeavors. Throughout the franchise, Gimli demonstrates loyalty and combat ability and has always been a source of humor.

As played by Rhys-Davies, Gimli was introduced in The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring, where he joins Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) in destroying the One Ring. That movie also features a now-iconic moment between Gimli and Legolas (Orlando Bloom), when the former shouts not to grab his beard.

During the By Beard and Hammer! Adventures with John Rhys-Davies panel at the Denver Fan Expo, which ScreenRant was in attendance for, the Lord of the Rings actor revealed thathe improvised "not the beard!" As Rhys-Davies explained, he landed unsteadily while filming,...

Lucasfilm Reportedly Prepping For Full ‘Indiana Jones’ Reboot Following Box Office Disappointment
Image
After the latest Indiana Jones movie didn’t do well at the box office, Lucasfilm seems ready to start fresh with the whole franchise. According to DisInsider, the studio plans to reboot Indiana Jones, but they’re waiting a bit before making anything official.

The big reveal could come at the D23 Expo in 2026. Even though the last film didn’t perform as hoped, Disney and Lucasfilm still see value in the iconic character and don’t want the series to disappear.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny came out in 2023 and was meant to be the final adventure for Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. The story takes place in 1969, with Indy now teaching at Hunter College in New York City. He’s dealing with a lot, his son Mutt died in the Vietnam War, and his marriage to Marion fell apart.

Then his goddaughter, Helena Shaw, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge,...

Lucasfilm Reportedly Planning a Full ‘Indiana Jones’ Reboot After Box Office Flop
Image
After Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn’t perform well at the box office, it looks like Lucasfilm might be ready to hit the reset button. According to a report from DisInsider, the studio is planning a full reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise, but not right away. They’re apparently letting it rest for a bit before making any official announcements.

The reboot might be revealed at the next D23 Expo in 2026. Even though the last movie struggled financially, Disney and Lucasfilm still believe in the power of the Indiana Jones name. It’s a legendary series, and they don’t want it to fade away.

Dial of Destiny, the fifth movie in the franchise, came out in 2023 and was meant to close the book on Harrison Ford’s version of the character. It was set in 1969, with Indy now living in New York City, working as a professor at Hunter College,...

Sir Ian McKellen Performs Glastonbury With Scissor Sisters and Gets Emotional
Image
Sir Ian McKellen worried many people in recent months after taking a tumble off stage during a performance of his Shakespeare play, Player Kings. On Saturday, the Lord of the Rings actor surprised many by appearing on a very different stage, and while his unexpected performance went without a hitch, it did almost end in tears.

McKellen, who is believed to be reprising his role as Gandalf in the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, appeared at British music festival Glastonbury on Saturday, performing his spoken-word piece from a song by the pop group Scissor Sisters. While the group were obviously listed to perform, McKellen’s appearance during the song “Invisible Light,” for which he recorded a monologue back in 2010, was something that took the crowd by surprise.

Following the performance, a video captured backstage showed the 86-year-old actor holding back tears and covering his face with...

Alfred Molina Recalls Steven Spielberg's Advice on Raiders of the Lost Ark, Says "He Could See What I Wasn't Understanding"
Image
Hollywood icon Alfred Molina recalls the advice he received on the set of Raiders of the Lost Arkfrom Steven Spielberg.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Molina recently opened up about his experience on the set of 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark. "I didn't understand the techniques, or cutting or editing. So we would shoot a scene, and then I would go to dailies the next day to watch that scene, or takes of the scene," Molina said. "I would see things that I did, that I didn't, that I thought, 'Oh no, that's terrible,' and then I would come in the next day to work trying to fix what I saw before."

The actor continued when explaining his experience on set. "The focus puller would put tape on the floor, to give the actor a guide as to where to stand to stay in focus. I had no idea what that was for.

Orlando Bloom Reveals His One Condition For Legolas' Lord Of The Rings Movie Return
Image
Orlando Bloom has revealed his one condition to return as woodland elf Legolas in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Though the last of Peter Jackson's adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal works was released over a decade ago, Warner Bros. is ready to resurrect Middle-earth for the big screen. The result is The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which will see Andy Serkis both direct and reportedly star in an offshoot of the original Lord of the Rings story.

Though it has yet to be confirmed when Gollum is set in Middle-earth's timeline, it will likely take place near The Fellowship of the Ring, with Aragorn and Gandalf searching for Gollum to prevent him from revealing the One Ring's whereabouts to Sauron's forces. If true, other familiar characters and cast members could potentially return to Middle-earth, too, including Orlando Bloom's Legolas,...

Disney+’s Gargoyles Was the Gothic Crime Procedural You Didn’t Realize Shamed Law & Order First
Image
When Gargoyles was first released in 1994, it had the option to stay comfortably put in its animated lane. Instead, it dared to outshine Law & Order, with its moral ambiguity, depth, and serialized storytelling. I agree that Law & Order was a pioneer in its genre that essentially paved the way for episode-wise crime procedurals. But what Gargoyles did by turning that formula on its head and intertwining noir, mythology, and complex human dilemmas into one daring narrative cannot be ignored.

Sure, the supernatural angle was a treat, but what really intensified the animated series was the way it mirrored real-life ethical and legal tensions, while being a cartoon for kids. Streaming now on Disney+, the show is finally getting the attention it deserves. It’s a trailblazing hybrid that was way ahead of its time.

‘Lord of the Rings’ Star John Rhys-Davies Reveals His Only Condition for Returning in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’
Image
Another Middle-earth saga awaits us in the next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum. Warner Bros. recently announced a release date for the movie, but still, core details remain hazy. It's no secret, however, thatAndy Serkis is developing the movie with the guidance of Peter Jackson, who has steered all previous live-action entries in the franchise. Serkis will not only direct but will also reprise his role as the titular troubled hobbit aka Smeagol. He remains the only actor officially confirmed for a role, however, several other franchise stars have publicly expressed their willingness to return. One star, John Rhys-Davies, was previously iffy, stating conditions to guarantee his return, but in an updated response, the Gimli actor appears more optimistic about stepping back into the dwarves' boots.

John Rhys-Davies Teases Gimli's 'Lord of the Rings' Return in 'The Hunt for Gollum'
Image
The nextLord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum, already has Viggo Mortensen's sword, and it might have Orlando Bloom's bow. Now, John Rhys-Davies said that Gimli will proudly offer his axe if he's called to star in the movie. The new movie is set to be released in December 2027 (although this is potentially subject to change as the film has already been delayed once). Mortensen (Aragorn) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) are already confirmed to star in the movie, and fans are now expecting several other core members of the Fellowship to appear.

During an appearance at Fan Expo Philadelphia, hosted by Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier, John Rhys-Davies said that he would love to return as Gimli for Andy Serkis' The Hunt for Gollum. Unlike his Lord of the Rings character, who loves to quip and berate Bloom's Legolas, John Rhys-Davies kept his answer short and sweet.

Gimli's Potential Lord Of The Rings Movie Return Addressed By John Rhys-Davies: "If I'm Asked To Serve..."
Image
Exclusive: Constant speculation has been circling The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum pertaining to whether iconic Lord of the Rings actors will reprise their roles, and original star John Rhys-Davies just gave a hopeful answer. Andy Serkis' The Hunt for Gollum movie is expected in December 2027, with the great actor directing and returning to his famous role. The movie is widely expected to depict Aragorn and Gandalf tracking Gollum, therefore overlapping with The Fellowship of the Ring in the Lord of the Rings timeline.

Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen returning as Aragorn and Gandalf, respectively, seems like it would be vital to this story (neither actor is confirmed for Hunt for Gollum), but other classic Lord of the Rings characters have the potential to appear as well. And, in an interview with Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier at Fan Expo Philadelphia, Gimli actor John Rhys-Davies apparently confirmed...

Remembering the Late Joe Don Baker, Dead at 89, Arguably the First American Bond Villain
Image
Joe Don Baker, beloved character actor who populated classic films from “Walking Tall” to “Cape Fear” with his unique spin on the brawny Texan persona, is dead at 89, his family announced. He is survived by a circle of friends and extended relations in his hometown of Groesbeck, Texas.

Standing six-foot, two inches and built like a brick wall, he was a natural athlete, playing basketball and football in high school, and attending North Texas State College on an athletic scholarship. Graduating in 1958, and after spending two years in the army, he moved to New York City to study at the Actors Studio, landing his debut in Manhattan theater in “Marathon ’33” in 1963. Small parts in Westerns on TV followed: “The Big Valley,” “Bonanza,” “Gunsmoke,” and, notably, the pilot episode of “Lancer,” where he played the villain — a Tarantino-ized version of which was played by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton in...

Disney Spent Over $30 Million On A Spin-Off That Will Likely Never Happen
Image
There are few names that get Disney historians to raise their eyebrows like Disneytoon. The studio behind the Mouse House's direct-to-home-media racket from 1990 to 2018, Disneytoon was tasked with knocking out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs to its parent company's biggest animated films as quickly and, just as importantly, cheaply as possible. The results weren't exactly Disney magic, but you can't blame the studio's artists for doing what they could. In the end, they made 47 (!) animated movies in three decades, and hey: They helped give us Al's hot dad Cassim (John Rhys-Davies) from "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and the generational cult classic that is "A Goofy Movie," so you gotta show them some respect.

This brings us to today's specific topic: "Planes." Directed by Klay Hall ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"), it's an odd duck among Disneytoon's output, being a theatrical release based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise. The...

Howard J. Ford dives into underground terror with ‘Bone Keeper’
Image
Get ready to fear the dark all over again: indie horror master Howard J. Ford has just wrapped his latest monster movie, Bone Keeper, and it’s bringing some serious legend-hunting, cave-dwelling terror.

The film follows six friends who venture deep into a remote cave system chasing the myth of the “Bone Keeper,” only to find themselves fighting to survive something far more real and far more deadly lurking in the depths. Genre icon John Rhys-Davies leads the cast, alongside Sarah Alexandra Marks, Louis James, Tiffany Hannam-Daniels, Sophia Eleni, Danny Rahim, Tyler Winchcombe, and Nerdly genre fave Sarah T. Cohen. VFX artist Giordano Aita is on board to bring the creature to horrifying life.

Produced through Ford’s Latitude Films, Bone Keeper will be hitting the international market with sales handled by REInvent, who are teasing the first footage at Cannes.

In 1976, a man named James Wheeler disappeared while investigating strange sightings in the area, leaving behind only a single frame of Super 8 film depicting the silhouette of an unknown creature. Now, in the present day, Wheeler’s granddaughter and her companions descend into the same underground maze, intent on solving the mystery. What they find is a threat...

Liv Tyler Reveals She’d “Just Do Anything” To Return to Arwen and The Lord of the Rings Franchise
Image
In the many millennia since, literature became an avid means of escaping human toil, there have been many stories written and retold. And in the modern age, one can argue that none quite captures the imagination so wholly as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In the early 2000s, director Peter Jackson adapted Tolkien's tale of the Third Age of Middle-earth, with The Fellowship of the Ring, and the subsequent two films, earning Jackson's trilogy a spot in cinematic folklore. However, that journey is not ended, as May 2024 brought with it the revelation that a new wave of movies from Middle-earth would be descending upon us soon, and Liv Tyler would very much like to be a part of it.

Tolkien's stories offered us a vast array of brilliant Elven characters to adore, and in Jackson's trilogy, Tyler's Arwen stood out. The daughter of Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Celebrían,...

The Actor Behind The Lord Of The Ring's Beloved Elven Queen Wants To Return, But Should They?
Image
The Og "Lord of the Rings" crew has been in the news cycle a lot lately. With Warner Bros. planning new live-action J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptations, everyone is wondering who could show up again after a 20-year hiatus from Middle-earth acting.

You can count Liv Tyler among those ready to jump right back into the action. Tyler is, of course, famous for playing the Elven queen Arwen in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. While the character has a minor role in Tolkien's source material, Arwen is busy in the movies. She fills in for the Elf-lord Glorfindel by saving Frodo (Elijah Woods) from the Black Riders and encourages Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) to fulfill his destiny and confront Sauron. She was even filmed in various fight sequences, including the Battle of Helm's Deep (although that was later cut during post-production).

Now, Tyler has gone on record saying...

Before Scooby-Doo, Matthew Lillard & Freddie Prinze Jr. Starred In A Forgotten Sci-Fi War Movie
Image
A generation of kids grew up watching Raja Gosnell's 2002 live-action comedy flick "Scooby-Doo," an adaptation of Hanna-Barbera's long-running Scooby-Doo cartoon shows from the 1970s. In the film, Freddy, originally voiced by Frank Welker, was played by Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Shaggy, originally voiced by Casey Kasem, was played by Matthew Lillard. Prinze was squarely in the public eye after starring in hit films like "She's All That" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," while Lillard was famous for his turns in "Hackers," "Scream," and "Slc Punk!" Lillard, incidentally, was also in "She's All That." Both actors were very much their generation's "It" boys, and the decade proved to be very lucrative for them both.

Well, "Wing Commander" notwithstanding.

"Wing Commander" is not well-remembered by too many people. It was based on a series of 1990s "Wing Commander" video games created by Chris Roberts, who also directed the film.

'Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin Recalls Panic Attack While Shooting Peter Jackson's Trilogy
Image
While Frodo is the most popular Hobbit in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy (based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien), fans are slowly coming to realize that Samwise Gamgee was the true hero of the story. Just as Frodo and Sam embarked on a perilous journey to Mount Doom, Sean Astin (who played Samwise in all three movies) recently revealed he had his own internal struggle during the film's production, one which led him to panic attacks.

Sean Astin recently reunited with his former Lord of the RIngs co-stars, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, John Rhys-Davies, and Andy Serkis, at C2E2 in Chicago. During the panel, the actor opened up about the emotional struggles he faced during the trilogy's lengthy production. "I remember at one point, most movies, even a big movie they used to be like 3 months or 4 months," Astin began. "When we got to 5 months,...

'I Can Tell You the Whole Story': Andy Serkis Updates Fans on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum
Image
Andy Serkis will be returning to Middle-Earth in 2027 when The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to be released in movie theaters. The project was first announced in 2024 and not only will Serkis be reprising his role as Gollum/Smeagol, he will also be directing the movie, which will be produced by Peter Jackson.

Per PopVerse, during a Lord of the Rings reunion panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Serkis gave an update on the progress of The Hunt for Gollum. At the panel, which also featured John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, Rhys-Davies asked Serkis about the status of the movie.

“Andy, how’s the film coming on?” Rhys-Davies asked Serkis during the panel. To which Serkis replied, “The new film? Which new film? Not The Hunt for Gollum film. Do you want me to...

'I Don't Know What That Would Be Like': Sean Astin on What's Holding Him Back From Reprising Lotr Role in The Hunt for Gollum
Image
The heroic and faithful Hobbit, Samwise Gamgee, played by Sean Astin in the original Lord of the Ringstrilogy, proved to be a loyal friend to Frodo Baggins in his journey to destroy the Ring. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which will be directed by Andy Serkis, is set for a 2027 release. During an appearance on a panel moderated by ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier at Washington, D.C.’s AwesomeCon, Sean Astin delved into whether he’d reprise his Samwise role.

“The idea of doing Sam again…When we did it the first time, I had no idea what the relationship of the literature was to that character. To me, it was all about what we were doing and trying to understand the ideas; just connecting on an emotional level,” Astin said.

The original Lord of the Rings movies, directed by Peter Jackson, began their theatrical runs...

Original 'Lord of the Rings' Cast Members Tease Possible Franchise Return
Image
More than 20 years have passed since we last saw the Fellowship of the Ring and Frodo make their epic journey to destroy the One Ring in Middle-earth. However, it appears that the original cast of The Lord of the Rings franchise is ready to go back to Middle-earth. At least, Arwen, Samwise, Legolas and Gimli could be the ones returning in the future, as their performers didn't say no when approached with the idea of reprising their roles in a future movie of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy universe.

Original cast members Liv Tyler, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom and John Rhys-Davies appeared at an AwesomeCon panel to talk about their legacy in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hosted by Screen Rant, the panel included asking them whether they could return for another movie in the franchise. The Hunt for Gollum is reportedly in development, and it could be...

Every Live-Action Version Of Marvel's Kingpin, Ranked
Image
In a world with serial killers bonded to alien symbiotes, mad scientists that have robotic appendages, and some villains are literally born in Hell, it's an impressive feat one of the Marvel universe's most feared foes is Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin of Crime. Debuting in Amazing Spider-Man #50 and inspired by classic Hollywood actor Sydney Greenstreet, Fisk shifted his focus to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, trying a number of tactics to bring down Daredevil and demonstrating just how far he's willing to go to take down the Man Without Fear and a host of other heroes who thought crossing him was a good idea.

Wielding an impressive intellect, incredible physical strength, and a drive that has seen heroes' lives crumble in front of them, it stands to reason that when bringing the character to life, the star playing them had to be suitable for the role. Over the years,...

Even Die-Hard Fans Forget About This Sinister Corner of Lord of the Rings Where Sauron Rose to Power
Image
The Lord of the Ringsis a story that's rich with details. This applies to J.R.R. Tolkien's original novels and Peter Jackson's subsequent movie adaptations. Those details help explain why Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) can't use his newfound Army of the Dead to storm Mordor, or why Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) is seemingly the only Dwarf in Middle-earth. Surprisingly, one major detail has escaped some fans' notice, and it concerns the dark lord Sauron. Sauron is as close to pure evil as one can get, using his dark influence to forge the One Ring and bind the other Rings of Power to it. Even losing his physical body didn't stop his ascent to power. Part of that ascent lies in the construction of the fortress Dol Guldur, also known as the Hill of Sorcery, where Sauron retreated to spread his influence.

10 Lord of the Rings Characters Who Suffered the Most in the Trilogy, Ranked
Image
There's a lot of triumph in The Lord of the Rings, namely, the One Ring being destroyed. To get there, the characters had to suffer a lot. Frodo's journey to Mordor was treacherous, but he wasn't alone. Even with the Fellowship disbanding, Sam rarely left his side.

While Frodo was the one who had to take the weight of the Ring's evil power, so many others had to support him in different ways. Whether through battle, or losing a loved one, the pain seemed like an endless cycle. A few characters' suffering is obvious, but others need to be highlighted for fans to remember what they went through.

Merry’s Life Changed in an Instant

In the trilogy, Merry coincidentally ends up on the road to Mordor with Frodo and the Fellowship. He wasn't aware of Middle-earth's troubles, and had to quickly come to terms with what he'd signed up for.

The Only Actor Who Has Appeared In Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit & The Rings Of Power
Image
There are a lot of crossovers and connections within Middle-earth media. Even with completely separate projects, like Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" series and Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, you can see the throughlines. Some are obvious, like the similarities in Balrog design between Jackson's movies and Prime Video's show. Others are more subtle, like the ways "The Rings of Power" tries to recapture the magic of Jackson's Middle-earth movies. And then there is the human link.

Overall, there isn't too much personnel crossover between the Warner Bros. and Prime Video Middle-earth universes. However, there is one actor who has managed to pop up in both of them: Jed Brophy. Even more impressive? He managed to land full-blown character roles in all six of Jackson Middle-earth films and has since shown up on "The Rings of Power." He's even developed a...

Why Were All the Other Dwarves Absent During the War of the Ring?
Image
The Lord of the Ringsshows many different groups as they band together to save Middle-earth. The armies of Elves, Gondor, and Rohan all played a significant part in defeating Sauron, and they were not alone. Though Hobbits prefer not to leave their idyllic Shire, four join the Fellowship, becoming unlikely heroes. Even the Ents, who usually stay isolated, take action by destroying the enemies at Isengard. Yet one important group is missing. Surprisingly, Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) is the only Dwarf to have a notable role in the film. In Middle-earth, Dwarves are a proud race known for their mining and craftsmanship. The Hobbittrilogy introduces several Dwarves to fans, showing them to be valuable allies, but The Lord of the Rings doesn't make use of them.
