April was a sneaky good month for new Netflix shows to watch!

Looking at the list of new Netflix shows, You starring Penn Badgley is the obvious choice to be the most-watched of the month. The final season of the Netflix original series was added on Thursday, April 23. We also had a new season of Black Mirror released on April 10.

With most viewers' attention going to those two returning shows and March hits like Adolescence and more, it's easy for a few of the best Netflix shows of April 2025 to slip through the cracks. To make sure you saw all of the good Netflix shows, we shared a list of the five best Netflix shows you probably missed this month.

Medical dramas are all the rage on TV right now!

Netflix has been treating subscribers to many original films and shows, both in English and foreign languages. Most recently, a lot of foreign productions have attracted subscribers.

Netflix's Squid Game is the streamer's most popular title so far, and in recent months, several new releases have become so popular they joined the Top 10 Most Popular lists, like the action film Ad Vitam and the disaster limited series La Palma. Its success with foreign titles was highlighted this week with two new titles: the Dutch thriller iHostage, and the limited series The Glass Dome. Viaplay Content Distribution has sold “A Life’s Worth” to Spain (Eitb) and Greece (Vodafone) ahead of its Series Mania premiere in its International Panorama.

The six-episode drama, directed by Ahmed Abdullahi, is inspired by the challenges faced by the first Swedish U.N. battalion, sent to Bosnia in 1993.

Produced by Yellowbird in co-production with Viaplay and Arte France, “A Life’s Worth” has also licensed to Arte for France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria; Viaplay holds other world rights.

“Swedish soldiers didn’t have to go there: they volunteered. Some needed a job, others hoped for an adventure. So many of them didn’t even know what that war was about. They got more than they asked for,” said Mona Masri, who co-wrote the show with Oliver Dixon.

Banijay Nordic’s banner Yellow Bird is set to produce “A Life’s Worth,” a drama series inspired by real events within the Bosnian conflict in the 1990s. The show is being produced by Arte France and Viaplay Content Distribution which will also handle global sales.

“A Life’s Worth” is set in the fall of 1993, amid the devastating turmoil unfurling in Bosnia. Swedish U.N. soldiers embark on a perilous mission to bring peace to a fractured land. The series follows the journey of a group of young soldiers and their commander as they struggle with the complexities of war.

Agatha Christie's Hjerson is the first ever adaptation based on the fictional detective of Christie's fictional writer Ariadne Oliver; a playful, meta contemporary whodunnit from the producers of Midsommar and Before We Die. It follows the former criminal investigator Sven Hjerson who has previously involved in solving some of Sweden's most difficult cases of all time. For a few years now, he has retired from the limelight and now lives far under the radar. Viaplay Plans November 1 Launch Date For UK As Premier Sports Deal Closes

Viaplay has confirmed the date for its launch in the UK: November 1. It will offer two packages – a film- and series-focused option focused on Nordic storytelling, including Viaplay Originals and third-party shows, and a ‘Total’ package also including sports, priced at £3.99 (4.50) and £14.99 (17) per month, respectively. The Total package will include Premier Sports content after Viaplay’s acquisition of the UK streamer received Irish media merger control clearance this week. The deal values the Ireland-based, Setanta-owned company at £30M (34M). Premier Sports channels will be rebranded under Viaplay monikers and the Total package will include Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland men’s FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro Cup games, along with several other sports tournaments. The UK launch takes Viaplay’s footprint to 11 territories, with U.S. and Canada services coming in early 2023.

Cannes — TV series “Agatha Christie’s Hjerson” has been picked up by streamer Topic for North America and by the Australian channel Sbs, Zdf Studios announced Tuesday at Cannes Mipcom trade fair.

“Agatha Christie’s Hjerson” is being sold as both a 45-minute series and four feature-length stories.

Topic has taken exclusive rights for the U.S. and Canada. Sbs, a multicultural Australian broadcaster, has also closed an exclusive deal for the drama series.

Additionally, Zdf Studios has licensed the program to VOD platforms Google Play, iTunes, Amazon, Deutsche Telekom and Huawei for German speaking territories, as well as Germany’s public broadcaster, Zdf.

Other buyers include Viasat World, which covers the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Croatia and the whole of Southeast Europe, Keshet (Israel), Nhk (Japan), VR Films (India), Lrt (Lithuania) and Walter Presents, Walter Iuzzolino’s Global Series Network for the U.K. and Ireland.

REinvent International Sales has closed a raft of deals across its slate of family movies, including “A Christmas Tale,” “Twigson and the Sea Monster” and “Nelly Rapp – Monster Agent.”

“Nelly Rapp – Monster Agent,” directed by Amanda Adolfsson, has been sold to the U.S. and Canada (Janson Media), Russia and Cis (Volga Films), Poland (Vivarto), Japan (New Select) and Estonia (Estin Film).

The movie was selected at this year’s Berlinale in the Generation Kplus competition and previously won two Swedish Guldbagge awards. The film stars promising newcomer Matilda Gross as Nelly, an 11-year old girl who is about to spend the fall vacation with her uncle Hannibal and her beloved dog London. The Berlin International Film Festival has set its full slate for the upcoming 2021 edition. Berlinale usually follows Sundance with a February festival, but the pandemic has forced organizers to develop a new festival format for 2021. The 71st Berlin International Film Festival is set to take place with the “Industry Event” from March 1 to 5, which will include the European Film Market (EFM), the Berlinale Co-Production Market, the Berlinale Talents, and the World Cinema Fund in online forms. From June 9 to 20, 2021 the Berlinale will launch a “Summer Special” with numerous film presentations in Berlin, both at indoor and outdoor cinemas.

Included in the March event is the traditional film festival slate, which includes the main Berlinale Competition lineup as well as sidebar sections such as Berlinale Special & Berlinale Series, Encounters, Berlinale Shorts, Panorama, Forum & Forum Expanded, Generation, Perspektive Deutsches Kino, and Retrospective. With the exception of the Retrospective, the films will be shown at the March event.

Generation, the Berlin Film Festival’s section for youth-centric movies, has unveiled its lineup, with a majority of its films directed by women.

Sixty per cent of the films are directed by women, and many of them feature “strong willed” female protagonists, the festival said, such as “Ninjababy,” in which Rakel is six months pregnant, but doesn’t want to become a mother. Other such films include “Short Vacation,” “Mission Ulja Funk” and “Nelly Rapp – Monster Agent.”

Many of the films immerse themselves in the worlds of young people, such as “The White Fortress,” “Stop-Zemlia,” “The Fam” and “Fighter.”

Generation features eight world premieres across its two competition programs, Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus, with the films coming from 17 countries. With four contributions each, productions from the Asian and Scandinavian countries are particularly well represented.

The 71st Berlin International Film Festival unveils its program this week, with the Generation and Retrospective sections kicking off proceedings today.

A total of 15 films are selected across the two youth-focused Generation competitions – Kplus and 14plus. Of the titles chosen, 60% are directed by female directors. Scroll down for the full list.

The movies come from the likes of Canada, China, and Korea. There are eight world premieres and six debuts. Films arriving from other festivals include the animation Cryptozoo, which was at Sundance and features Lake Bell and Michael Cera in its voice cast.

The 2021 Retrospective program will focus on the comedic work of three actresses – Mae West, Rosalind Russell, and Carole Lombard during the era when the Motion Picture Production Code (“Hays Code”) was coming into effect. Sven Hjerson, the debonair Scandinavian master detective invented by crime writer Ariadne Oliver, a character in Agatha Christie’s novels, will get his own series, set in modern-day Stockholm.

In “Agatha Christie’s Sven Hjerson,” Hanna Alström plays Klara Sandberg, a former trash TV producer who successfully pitches a true-life crime show starring Hjerson, who would solve a real crime each week. The new show may reset Sandberg’s career and life, but the only problem is that she has never met Hjerson.

The show stars Johan Rheborg (“Kenny Starfighter”) as Hjerson. It will be comprised of four murder cases and broadcast as four films and an eight-episode TV series in the fall of 2021.

The Swedish series created by Amir Chamdin and Fares Fares, based upon an idea by Mauricio Molinari, won the 3rd edition of the festival’s competition, with Moloch and Red Light also claiming trophies. The 3rd edition of Cannes International Series Festival - Canneseries has awarded its principal prize to the Swedish production Partisan. Created by Amir Chamdin and Fares Fares (who also leads the cast) based upon an original idea by Mauricio Molinari, the series which also stars Johan Rheborg, Sofia Karemyr and Anna Björk recounts the misadventures of Johnny as he enters Jordnära, an idyllic gated community that runs a very successful organic farm, as their new truck driver. He gets to know Nicole and Maria, two foster children who are spending the summer there. He soon starts to suspect trafficking. The more Johnny's concern for the girls grows, the more focus they take from his main mission.

The timely Nordic production will tackle the emotional impact of the ongoing lockdown and is set to premiere exclusively on Viaplay. Josephine Bornebusch will be providing a commentary on these difficult times in a new experimental drama entitled Orca, which is currently in production. Bornebusch, who is best known for her acting career and her directorial work on television productions such as Love Me (2019-2020) and The Sunny Side (2019), is also the writer of her new endeavour. Here, the Swedish filmmaker will dramatise some of the emotional impacts of the current outbreak and will ask what togetherness can mean when we are apart. Throughout the film, the characters will communicate with each other primarily from behind a screen. The cast are filming their scenes one at a time and in the presence of a skeleton crew. Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group), Scandinavia’s leading streaming company, has come on board “Orca” (working title), a Swedish drama dealing with social distancing created, written and directed by Josephine Bornebusch (“Love Me”) .

The series, which started to film this week, is headlined by Swedish stars, including Johan Rheborg (“Partisan”), Gustav Lindh (“Love Me”), Alba August (“The Perfect Patient”), Peter Andersson (“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”) and Vera Vitali (“Conspiracy of Silence”), as well as Bornebusch. The show will premiere exclusively across the Nordics on Nent Group’s Viaplay streaming service in the fall.

The experimental drama sees its protagonists communicating with one another primarily through their phones and screens; and they are filming their scenes one at a time with a minimal crew present, said Nent Group. “Orca” is being produced by Sofie Palage at Warner Bros. Valkeapää’s Bdsm movie “Dogs Don’t Wear Pants” has been sold by The Yellow Affair to new U.K. distributor Anti-Worlds for the U.K. and Ireland, as well as to The Klockworx Co for Japan, Ama Films for Greece, Hhg for Russia/Cis, Pilot Film for the Czech Republic and Kasi for the Baltics.

When you come to a festival such as this one, you see plenty of action movies, plenty of martial arts, sci-fi and of course, some horror. You also see some weird. In the weird column, I would like to enter Kenny Begins. It is quite simply the weirdest, most insane and possibly most deviously enjoyable films that I've seen here at Fantastic Fest. It's Swedish. The film follows the converging stories of two misfits, a "galaxy hero" wannabe from a distant sector of the universe, who is trying to graduate starfighter school before the money runs out and his mom makes him become a hairdresser. Day Four marks the halfway point for Fantastic Fest, and I’ve already seen two of the best films of the festival so far. That really makes me wonder what they’re going to close things out with. There was Secret Screening #3 on Sunday, and it turned out to be Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and not the Michael Jackson concert rehearsal footage film, This Is It, as everyone expected. Personally, I think we got a good deal. We were able to enjoy Gilliam and Michael Jackson in the same evening… due to the Michael Jackson Dance Party held at midnight.

With only two Secret Screenings left, speculation is running rampant about what they might be. I’ve heard everything from Kick-Ass to Sherlock Holmes to The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Okay, New Moon was tongue-in-cheek; Let’s hope they don’t try to kill us with shock from something like that,...
