Britney Spears became a pop sensation in the early 2000s, developing a girl-next-door image. However, when Spears signed on for the 2002 comedy-drama Crossroads, she was ready to shed that image and fought to keep a PG-13-rated steamy scene in the movie, which is now available on Netflix.
She wanted to [challenge] that image that she’s this forever virgin girl. A kid would not know what the heck is going on! That was a fight I’m happy we won.
Director Tamra Davis made the above statement to Entertainment Weekly, admitting that the scene was a massive risk for Spears’ public image at the time. Despite the steamy scene, Crossroads has mostly fallen out of the pop culture consciousness in the last two decades, but that hasn’t stopped David from being hopeful for a sequel.

Exclusive: Streaming executives will not face their traditional grilling at the Edinburgh TV Festival Spotlight sessions this year.
The full line-up for this year’s annual gathering of the great-and-the-good of the UK TV industry is now public but Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) Spotlight sessions do not feature.
Spotlight sessions, which used to be called Controller Sessions, see UK commissioners take to the stage for an hour or so to talk upcoming content, strategy and – sometimes – take tricky questions from the audience of press and producers. They tend to also use the opportunity to unveil splashy new shows. The Spotlights have been a feature of the Edinburgh TV Fest for 50 years with British broadcasters taking part annually. As they burrowed deeper into the UK industry, streamers had begun hosting Spotlights in recent years.
Deadline is told that the streamer spotlights are on temporary hiatus and will be back next year.

"Station 19" was one of the better Shonda Rhimes shows. As a spin-off of "Grey's Anatomy," it focused on the lives of the firefighters at Station 19 in Seattle, showcasing their struggles both in the line of duty and within their personal lives. It's the kind of soapy drama fans of "Grey's Anatomy" could watch on Thursday nights, and while it wasn't a bad idea to watch all of "Grey's Anatomy" first, it was largely its own story that could be seen in a vacuum. But if you did manage to watch both shows at the same time, it made the numerous crossover specials all the more monumental.
"Grey's Anatomy" has had a solid run, having debuted in 2005 and still cranking out new episodes. Sadly, "Station 19" wouldn't amass the same kind of legacy. News of "Station 19" ending after season 7 came in December 2023, ahead of the final episodes. The show...

People leave long-running TV shows all the time — and because "Grey's Anatomy" has been airing since 2005, that sentiment is particularly true when it comes to the long-running medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes. Sara Ramirez hung up their stethoscope as Dr. Callie Torres to pursue new opportunities, Sandra Oh's Dr. Cristina Yang moved to Switzerland for a brand new career, Patrick Dempsey wanted to spend more time racing cars and stopped playing Dr. Derek Shepherd as a result, and Katherine Heigl reportedly clashed with Rhimes behind the scenes after playing Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens for six seasons of the series. Hell, even the titular Dr. Grey — Meredith, played by Ellen Pompeo — technically left the series in season 19, though Pompeo is still an executive producer and provides the show's voiceover. So, what about Dr. George O'Malley (played by T.R. Knight), one of the show's five original surgical interns?
I'll explain how and why shortly,...

Just a couple of months before its fall TV shows start rolling out, ABC decided to shake up its schedule by moving up the release dates of several of its high-profile series. One of them was Grey's Anatomy: the long-running medical series, originally set for an October 16 debut, will now kick off its landmark Season 22 a week early. Fans of the show will return to the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on October 9. The new season will be spread across 18 episodes, per Deadline.
Even though one week might not seem like much, for fans it makes all the difference in the world. Season 21 of the show ended — in true Grey's Anatomy fashion — on a major cliffhanger. A patient, played by Yellowstone's Piper Perabo, went haywire inside the hospital and threatened to detonate the gas tank. The season ended in an explosion, and so far, we don't know who has survived and who died.

Given how shows like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos" helped turn HBO into the destination for quality television in the late '90s and early 2000s, it isn't too surprising that Netflix would see a similar rise to prominence off the back of its own well-received crime-influenced series like "House of Cards," "Orange is the New Black," and even "Bloodline." It causes one to wonder what exactly it is about these stories that makes them so central to the midwifing of new eras of television -- perhaps such crime dramas, universally captivating despite often being too violent, disturbing, and complicated for mainstream TV, naturally find themselves at home wherever risks are most welcome.
Whatever the case, Netflix is now where many go for the thrills that a simulated life of crime can offer. Whether a viewer is looking for a classic series that predated the streamer's existence or is willing...

A new GOP-backed bill seeks to rename the Kennedy Center in honor of Donald Trump. Introduced by Representative Bob Onder, a Republican from Missouri, the “Make Entertainment Great Again (Mega) Act” aims to recognize Trump’s supposed dedication to the preservation of the arts by changing the name the country’s premier performing arts center in honor of the former reality TV star–turned–president. If passed, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts would be officially known as the “Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts.”
“From books and television shows to board games, movies, and more; when it comes to the arts, President Trump’s golden touch has captivated and entertained audiences for decades,” a press release on Onder’s website reads. [This story contains major spoilers from season two, Vol. 2 of The Sandman.]
In his final episode of The Sandman, Lord Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) a.k.a. Dream of the Endless, the cosmic being who controls all dreams, delivers an ominous warning to his inner circle: “For the realm to survive, for each one of you to survive, any threat to the Dreaming must be destroyed.”
The most immediate threat to the land of dreams was, of course, none other than the supreme leader himself, whose decision to spill family blood by mercifully killing his only son, Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor), drew the ire of a trio of goddesses known as the Furies. Adapted largely from The Kindly Ones, the penultimate collection of the creator Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics, the second volume of the Netflix fantasy drama’s final season explores the consequences of Dream’s actions.

The film will look back at what happened in 2019, when Smollett claimed he was the victim of a hate crime in Chicago. At the time, the story grabbed headlines everywhere. SkyMed has always understood its flight plan: deliver high-altitude medical heroics with a side of ground-level romantic entanglements. It’s a dependable network procedural, a Grey’s Anatomy for the rugged skies of Northern Manitoba, where the life-threatening emergencies are matched only by the messy affairs of the first responders. Season 3 wastes no time throttling up the drama.
We are immediately introduced to new arrivals meant to disrupt the team’s equilibrium: Chief Nurse Marianne Ferreira, whose by-the-book precision is a world away from the crew’s improvisational grit, and Tj, a pilot whose quiet competence masks a painful past. The premiere dives straight into soapy territory with a move Shonda Rhimes would applaud. Captain Chopper shares a night with an alluring stranger, only to find she is his new, exacting boss. It’s a classic setup for workplace tension.

Netflix’s 120 Emmy nominations Tuesday came from 44 titles across 14 genres and includes series as divergent as Adolescence and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
The streamer also helped 11 stars land their first Emmy nominations.

Last week, Netflix shared that two of its most promising shows were cancelled after just one season. Unfortunately, one of those was Shonda Rhimes' The Residence starring Uzo Aduba. It took the streamer about four months to determine the murder mystery's fate, and now here we are.
The creator has broken her silence regarding the cancellation of the series, noting that she's "so disappointed." In a social media post, Rhimes shared a number of images from the show and captioned it with her feelings. She notes that t's such a shame that The Residence season 2 is not happening. Former BBC News chief James Harding will deliver the annual Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart lecture as the fest turns 50.

Jonathan Bailey’s big “Bridgerton” breakout came on Netflix in 2020, but that doesn’t mean the romance series is rubbing off on him in the years since.
While interviewing on Friday’s episode of “Chicken Shop Date” with host Amelia Dimoldenberg in promotion of “Jurassic World Rebirth,” Bailey admitted that co-starring as Lord Anthony Bridgerton over three seasons has not made him better at love.
“It’s fantasy, isn’t it? Romance is grounded and real,” Bailey responded to Dimoldenberg asking if he’s “better at romance” thanks to the Shonda Rhimes-produced project.
Watch Bailey’s full interview below:
“I can imagine you in ‘Bridgerton,'” Bailey offered shortly after, a suggestion that seemed to surprise Dimoldenberg. “Do you want to be in it?”
“Can you cast me in it?” she asked. Bailey admitted he has “no power” when it comes to making casting decisions, but he said he could “put a word in.

Lenny Henry will receive an award for outstanding achievement at next month’s Edinburgh TV Festival.
The celebrated comedian and actor will be recognized for a 50-year career “that has helped shape the landscape of British television and culture,” the fest said.
Henry has appeared in the likes of The Rings of Power, Broadchurch, The Syndicate, Chef! and The Witcher: The Blood Origin, as well as stage performances including The Comedy of Errors at The National, Fences at the Duchess Theatre and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Donmar Warehouse.
Beyond his on-screen achievements, he has been an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the industry, using his platform – and his television production company Esmerelda – to champion underrepresented voices.
Henry is also the co-founder of Comic Relief, which has raised more than £1B ($1.37B) for global causes since 1985, and he has established a centre for Media Diversity at Birmingham City University.

The political drama Scandal began to air in 2012 and continued until 2018. A couple of seasons down the line, Shonda Rhimes and the rest of her team made the executive decision to change the show's name from Scandal to The Fixer. To date, Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope remains a class act—right up there with other Shonda Rhimes creations like Viola Davis’s Annalise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder and Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy.
Fans can now watch Scandal on Netflix starting June 17 and follow the fixer’s complicated relationship with the President of the United States, Fitzgerald Grant, while she leads her team of Gladiators to war, supporting and fighting for her powerful clients by any means necessary.

After weeks on the Netflix Top 10, an 85% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a stellar ensemble led by Uzo Aduba and Giancarlo Esposito, The Residence seemed like a promising candidate for renewal. Unfortunately, the streaming giant has officially shut the door on the White House for good — The Residence has been cancelled after just one season.
Despite its unique premise, buzzy cast, and a positive critical reception, Netflix has opted not to move forward with Season 2 of The Residence. The show, which premiered March 20 and drew 6.4 million views in its debut week, quickly climbed the streamer’s English TV Top 10 list. It eventually settled into a four-week run on the chart, which is no small feat for a new property with no pre-existing franchise ties.
Based on The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower, the Shondaland-produced series offered a screwball twist on the traditional whodunnit.

Freshman Netflix shows “Pulse” and “The Residence” have both been canceled, Variety has learned. Both series aired just one season at the streamer.
“Pulse” premiered on April 3 and debuted with 6.5 million views on the Netflix Top 10, followed by 8.5 million, 3.2 million and 2 million views in the weeks after that. The series received a ratings of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Variety’s review noting “a poorly formatted narrative, an appalling depiction of sexual harassment and a few insufferable characters [that] don’t exactly make for a pleasurable watch.”
The series also suffered due to the proximity of its premiere to the finale of “The Pitt” at Max, with the latter medical drama scoring much higher with critics and audiences alike.
“Pulse” starred Willa Fitzgerald as Dr. Danny Simms, a third-year resident at a Level 1 trauma center Miami, who is unexpectedly promoted after beloved chief resident Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. Per the official logline,...

For decades, Dick Wolf has been the undisputed king of network television.
From Law & Order to One Chicago to FBI, his shows have defined procedural drama — and his name alone could greenlight a series.
But lately, there’s been a shift.

In just the last few months, CBS pulled the plug on FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted after previously renewing the entire franchise early — a rare move that signaled confidence.
Meanwhile, Prime Video’s On Call, one of Wolf’s first streaming ventures, quietly came and went without much fanfare before also getting the axe.

There are different kinds of stardom. There's the level of fame one achieves by simply being newsworthy for whatever reason in their chosen field, there's the crossover success one attains by appealing to millions of people from different demographics, and then there's the supernova stardom that makes musicians want to become actors, actors become musicians, and athletes become both (typically to their detriment).
As the world entered the 21st century, there were few people more famous than Britney Spears. The teen idol had knocked out two multi-platinum albums, "... Baby One More Time" and "Oops! ... I Did It Again," and caused something of a scandal with her sexy schoolgirl music video for the title track of the former. The provocation worked sensationally in her favor: The public was obsessed with Spears, which led to her landing a hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" and, predictably, the starring role in a feature film.

Watching Julia Garner’s Inventing Anna (2022) on Netflix, it is hard not to think of Jennifer Lopez’s Hustlers (2019). Both based on true stories and sharing themes, the series and the film also share a connection that many people are unaware of.
Both projects are actually rooted in journalist Jessica Pressler’s work, sharing stories of deception and ambition. Pressler, a longtime New York magazine journalist, covered both stories extensively, leading to both of her articles later being adapted into Hollywood projects.

Jessica Pressler, a contributing editor at New York magazine, is the journalist who penned two articles that birthed both Jennifer Lopez‘s Hustlers and Julia Garner‘s Netflix series, Inventing Anna.
Her 2015 piece, The Hustlers at Scores, detailed how a crew of strippers in New York City schemed to drug and rob high-end clients, running up their credit cards.

Derek Dixon’s recently filed $260 million litigation against Tyler Perry alleges sexual harassment, battery and assault — claims that the Atlanta entertainment mogul has called a shakedown. The sensational details of the suit, however, may obscure a more prosaic assertion found in the filing, one that has long trailed Perry — that he is operating his namesake studio without standard workplace guardrails.
Dixon contends that he didn’t report Perry, the impresario responsible for Tyler Perry Studios, after being purportedly pinned against a wall and groped by him because he wasn’t aware of a human resources department at the facility. Regardless of the legitimacy of this assertion, questions have long surrounded Perry’s relationship with industry labor.

After experiencing the glamour of regency romance, Bridgerton's resident mean girl Cressida Cowper is about to trade in her ball gown for a battleaxe in Prime Video's new historical epic. Jessica Madsen has signed on to co-lead the Viking-centric Bloodaxe as the formidable "Mother of Kings," Gunnhild, one of the fabled figures of the Icelandic Sagas and the wife of one of history's most famous Norse raiders, Erik Bloodaxe. She joins the previously cast Xavier Molyneaux in the series, which is set to begin production later this summer in Iceland and Ireland. Michael Hirst, who created the acclaimed Vikings, is creating, writing, showrunning, and executive producing the series with Horatio Hirst.
Based on the true story of the Norse power couple, Bloodaxe chronicles the rise to power of Erik Bloodaxe, the eventual king of Norway, and Gunnhild, the queen who would give birth to multiple future rulers of the country in the years afterward.

Adjoa Andoh might be high society in the Bridgerton world, but for the British actress there’s only one Lady in scriptwriting – the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes.
Andoh was full of praise for Rhimes and Bridgerton, as she revealed why she had been attracted to playing Lady Agatha Danbury in the ground-breaking period drama.
“It’s based on an internationally best-selling series, it’s being driven by the queen of long-form narrative Shonda Rhimes and is on this bonkers platform, Netflix, that goes everywhere,” she said to a charmed audience.
She was talking at the Italian Global Series Festival today after receiving her Maximo Excellence Award in Rimini this week. The award closely followed Andoh wrapping filming on Season 4 of Bridgerton, as she revealed on Instagram last week.
Andoh was also asked about a Season 2 of spin-off series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which hasn’t yet been greenlit.

Real hospitals experience turnover all the time; ask any real medical professional. People go elsewhere after they finish their residencies, or doctors migrate to become attending physicians — it's just part of the reality of the job. With that said, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that "Grey's Anatomy," the long-running medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes, is particularly medically accurate, because I'd like to think that bombs don't end up in body cavities all that often in real operating rooms and I really hope that fatality rates are lower amongst actual doctors than they are among the staff of the Seattle-based surgeons on this series ... because those doctors die a lot, and it's pretty alarming. This definitely doesn't stop "Grey's Anatomy" from being entertaining, and the show's outstanding ensemble cast is what makes it such a fun watch — and that definitely includes Sara Ramírez's extremely talented orthopedic surgeon Dr.

People come and go on "Grey's Anatomy" all the time. The long-running medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes was introduced as a mid-season replacement back in 2005 and has seen a lot of main cast members join and leave the show over the years; even its titular "Grey," Ellen Pompeo's Meredith, "left" the series in November 2022. But what about Meredith's "person" Dr. Cristina Yang, the cardiothoracic superstar played by Sandra Oh for the show's first 10 seasons?
Cristina is one of the show's five original surgical interns — alongside Meredith, Dr. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), and Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens (Katherine Heigl), all of whom also leave the show and its fictional Seattle-based hospital behind at some point — and pretty early in the series, it's established that she and Meredith are best friends. Despite her relationships with other doctors on "Grey's Anatomy," like cardiothoracic attending Dr.

John Musero, a former staff writer on “The Newsroom,” says his legal battle against CAA is a “whistleblower moment for every artist” currently or previously affiliated with the talent agency.
In 2019, Musero sued CAA and accused them of stealing his pilot idea for “Main Justice,” a show set inside the U.S. Attorney General’s office, which the agency optioned. He also claimed that he was put on a list of “underperforming writers” in 2016 and that CAA hid from him that he was in danger of being dropped. Additionally, Musero said his agents basically stopped actively representing him.
“CAA secretly blacklists its own clients while leading them to believe it is continuing to represent their interests. This case confirms what has been suspected by many in the industry for years,” Musero said in a statement on Thursday. “What’s clear is that CAA clients — and Guild members — may have had their careers harmed or killed,...

Benedict Bridgerton's time to shine is almost here as Bridgerton Season 4 is getting closer. Although Netflix doesn't plan to release the new season until 2026, the streamer has revealed an exciting filming update.
Bridgerton Season 4, which Netflix confirmed would be Benedict's season, has wrapped filming. The series, which adapts Julia Quinn's book series of the same name following the high-society Bridgerton family and its eight siblings, switched the adaptation order for Season 3, which should've been Benedict's season, to Penelope and Colin. On Friday, Netflix posted a video online revealing before and after shots of the cast members in and out of costume after completing their scenes.
"Do join us in bidding our dear Ton a farewell as they conclude the production of the forthcoming season! Indeed, there is much to look forward to…" the caption states.

If you were nervous about Jonathan Bailey and his fan-favorite character Anthony Bridgerton not appearing in future seasons of the hit Netflix historical romance, then worry no longer! The actor has made it clear he's not going anywhere, as long as the show keeps calling him back for more. With how much us fans love him, I'd hope the series would continue to do so.
The Bridgerton star recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his time before the drama, teased a little bit of what's to come in season 4 (hint: he confirmed there is a wedding!), and told the news outlet about his successful career following his character's more central storylines in the first two seasons. The great news is that while we are waiting for the fourth season, coming in 2026, Netflix has already renewed the series for seasons 5 and 6. With these updates, Bailey is definitely in it for the long haul.

Ellen Pompeo was the face of Grey’s Anatomy from 2005 until she stepped back from the beloved ABC series in Season 19. Today, she still narrates the show as Dr. Meredith Grey and appears in a limited capacity while serving as an executive producer. The medical drama will kick off Season 22 this fall and the actress, 55, still has no plans to exit the series created by Shonda Rhimes. So, why has Pompeo stuck around for so long? The mom of three opened up about her longevity on Grey’s Anatomy during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “On Grey’s, you really only get an opportunity to be nominated for things in your first few seasons, and so that time had clearly passed,” she told the publication in an article published on June 18. “I didn’t crave that kind of recognition. I craved the sort of financial and job security situation more...
