Exclusive: Vito Schnabel (Before Night Falls), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems) and Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos) have signed on to star in the dark comedy The Trainer, which Tony Kaye (American History X) is directing from a script by Schnabel and Jeff Solomon.

In development for nearly a decade, The Trainer is based on an original story by Schnabel. The film unfolding over eight days of sleep-deprived chaos follows Jack (Schnabel), a down-on-his-luck fitness expert living with his mother in Los Angeles, who takes a maniacal swing at fame and fortune, trying to realize his version of the American dream.

Schnabel, Kaye and Jeremy Steckler are producing, with George Paaswell on board to exec produce. Production will kick off in Los Angeles in early April.

He's no stranger to living the high life around larger-than-life personalities as the son of outsized artist and director Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and Butterfly). But now that he's been linked to Demi Moore, 26-year-old Vito Schnabel may just get a taste of fame on his own terms. The eldest son of Julian, Vito grew up around art world and Hollywood royalty before eventually making his own name as a curator and art dealer as a teenager. "They are just constantly around beautiful and fabulous women and run with a very cool crowd," a source tells People of the Schnabel family.

Ry Russo-Young's pseudo fictional experimental account (a breath of fresh air in the context of the 30 odd films I saw at 2009's Sundance Film Festival) will finally receive some a theatrical release via the Factory 25 folks. Albeit it'll be a short two weeks and then a DVD release - which could be read as a derogatory remark of sorts, but instead I'm glad that a new Palm Pictures type of label have emerged. The Brooklyn based company are taking on low budget doc films and indie features such You Wont Miss Me and providing filmmakers to at least have a vehicle it's Doa.
