Naked Attraction: Why Is this UK Dating Show So Controversial?
Image
There are new dating shows popping up every day. People eat them up and love every moment of drama that comes from beautiful people spending prolonged periods of time together. But whatever happened to the quick, one-and-done dating shows? The ones where people just went on a date and saw what happened?

With the advent of shows like The Bachelor, we’ve all been shifted to these “can I steal you for a minute?” type shows. There are big revelations and even bigger plot twists. Larger-than-life personalities mixed with perfect teeth and ample amounts of alcohol. But what if that was all literally stripped away? Then you’d have Naked Attraction.

The Brits Do It Better

In the US, we are left with a very specific set of shows due to arcane rules regarding decency. It is a holdover from the 1968 implementation of the MPAA censorship guidelines. These were holdovers...

X-Rated Dating Show ‘Naked Attraction’ Delivers Endless Full-Frontal Nudity and More Cringe Than Tinder
Image
Across sexualities and gender spectrums, any modern-day single who desires romance and companionship will likely agree that dating is a shit show. As we’ve become more connected as a society, the expectations around it are increasingly fractured. Adults, especially those living in large metropolises, typically have jampacked schedules, making it challenging to find time for those who aren’t already close friends, loved ones or colleagues. Moreover, people possess varied desires and expectations, which can make things increasingly uncomfortable when trying to find a match. While dating websites gloat about offering endless options, predators, misogynists and everyone in between often use those platforms to prey on unsuspecting victims. Finding love can be a terrifying endeavor.

Television has long been in the business of monetizing love. From “Love Island” to “Love Is Blind,” a new warped version of “The Dating Game” is always underway. Now, the British nude-based reality dating...

Casey Bloys Addresses the Addition of ‘Naked Attraction’ to Max: ‘HBO Is the Home of ‘Real Sex’ and ‘Cathouse”
Casey Bloys
HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys addressed the inclusion of U.K. series “Naked Attraction” on Max, which prompted a viral craze after it was quietly added to the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer last week.

“That show has been on in the U.K. for I want to say six seasons — it was part of a whole library deal,” Bloys explained Wednesday at the Code Conference.

“I just want to make one point because I think I know the point that you’re probably trying to make as, ‘Oh my gosh, can you imagine that show next to… your prestige show?'” Bloys continued. “I will remind you that HBO is the home of ‘Real Sex’ and ‘Cathouse’… Going back to the ‘You need an entire a mix of programming’ — this programming serves its purpose.”

Debuting in 2016, “Naked Attraction” is not your typical dating show. The series, hosted by Anna Richardson,...

As ‘Naked Attraction’ Becomes Surprise Hit For Max, Casey Bloys Reminds That HBO Was Home To ‘Real Sex’ & ‘Cathouse’
Image
Naked Attraction, a British reality series that features a form of full frontal nudity, has been making headlines after it was added to streaming service Max.

The series has become a surprise hit on the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer, jumping to number one on its most popular list as of today.

U.S. audiences may be just learning about the show, but it’s been on air in the UK on Channel 4 since 2016 and is in its sixth season and caused plenty of headlines on the other side of the pond, including a raft of complaints to British regulator Ofcom.

Casey Bloys, CEO and Chairman of CEO and Max Content, speaking at the Code conference, said that the show was part of a “whole library deal.”

Naked Attraction is produced by Studio Lambert, the production company behind series such as Netflix’s The Circle and Peacock’s The Traitors.

‘Naked Attraction’ Surges to Become Max’s “Most Popular” Show
Image
The people have spoken, and they want to see the peen.

Naked Attraction has surged to capture the top spot on Max streaming service’s “Most Popular” series list a week after its U.S. release.

That’s pretty impressive for a 7-year-old British reality show that was added to Max with zero fanfare on Sept. 20. Media coverage and online chatter surged following a Hollywood Reporter story over the weekend pointing out that the controversial series had been added to the service. Max’s Top 10 is based on the number of unique accounts viewing relatively recently added content (so legacy titles like The Sopranos are not included). The show’s official ratings from Nielsen won’t be available for weeks.

The dating series features singles who judge and eliminate nude prospective dates. The show features close-up, full-frontal nudity and plenty of graphic discussion, though no sex is shown.

‘Naked Attraction,’ Brutal Full-Frontal Nude Dating Show, Quietly Added to Max
Image
It’s like being on Tinder, but so much worse.

One of the U.K.’s most infamous dating shows (censored trailer below) was quietly added to the Max streaming service last week, and it’s already causing quite a stir.

The streamer has imported six seasons of Naked Attraction, a game show that promises to “start where a good date often ends — naked.” In each episode, a single “chooser” critiques and eliminates six potential dates standing on a stage by scrutinizing their fully nude bodies, which are gradually revealed one part at a time (faces are revealed last). When only two potential dates remain, the chooser strips out of their own clothes too, giving the remaining two contestants the opportunity to critique them. The final couple then go out on a date, with their clothes on.

The episodes on Max are uncensored, but have added a warning at the...

‘Bridgerton’ Star Adjoa Andoh’s Criticism Of “Terribly White” Royal Family Escapes Probe After Becoming Most Complained About TV Moment Of 2023
Image
UK media regulator Ofcom has ruled out an investigation into ITV’s coverage of King Charles III’s Coronation after a record number of complaints about comments made by Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh.

Ofcom received 8,372 messages from disgruntled viewers after Andoh accused the royal family of being “terribly white” as they took to the Buckingham Palace balcony to mark the crowning of King Charles last month.

“We’ve gone from the rich diversity of the [Westminster] Abbey to a terribly white balcony. I’m very struck by that,” she told ITV hosts Julie Etchingham and Tom Bradby.

In what was comfortably the most complained about moment on British TV this year, viewers said they found the comments offensive and said they amounted to racial discrimination.

Ofcom has decided, however, that no further action is necessary as the regulator continues to emphasize the importance of freedom of expression on UK television.

Naked Education: Controversial Channel 4 show receives 1,297 Ofcom complaints
Image
Channel 4 has received nearly 1,300 Ofcom complaints over its controversial show Naked Education.

Presented by Anna Richardson and created by the team behind Naked Attraction, the educational show about body positivity aired on Channel 4 earlier this month.

In the first episode, a group of 14 to 16-year-olds were taught about body hair, with the segment concluding with four adults stripping off in front of them to show diversity in other people’s bodies.

The four adults also spoke to the teenagers about their own issues with body image and the topic of pubic hair.

The series was hotly debated on social media and daytime TV, with Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway saying: “There’s something about the physicality of a stranger being naked in front of a teenager which I just feel uncomfortable about, because of all the things that we read about.”

Ofcom has now confirmed that they have...

‘Naked Education’ Complaints Near 1,300 As Anger Grows Over Channel 4 Parading Nude Adults In Front Of Children
Image
The gloves are off for Channel 4’s Naked Education.

UK media regulator Ofcom has received 1,297 complaints about the controversial body image show, as anger grows at a format that parades naked adults in front of young teenagers.

The complaints were a combined figure for the first two episodes of the six-part season, which broadcasts on Channel 4 in the UK on Tuesday nights.

Presented by Anna Richardson, the show depicts full-frontal nudity before the 9Pm watershed, a threshold in the UK that protects young viewers from potentially harmful content.

Ofcom is yet to decide whether it will launch an investigation into Naked Education, but Channel 4 has robustly defended the format, which is made by All3Media-owned Betty TV.

Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, said Naked Education‘s ambition to confront body image anxiety was “valuable public service broadcasting.”

“Anyone who suggests that the Channel 4 show Naked Education promotes...

The show, from the producers of the equally controversial programme Naked Attraction, is presented by Anna Richardson, Yinka Bokinni, and Dr Alex George, and focuses on body positivity.

In the first episode, which debuted on Tuesday night (4 April), a group of teenagers aged 14 to 16 years old were taught about body hair. The segment concluded with four adults stripping off in front of them to show the diversity of people’s bodies.

The four adults also spoke to the teenagers, telling them of their own issues with body image. They also discussed the subject of pubic hair with one another.

Naked Education became the subject of discussion on Thursday morning’s (6 April) episode of Good Morning Britain with guests debating whether a similar concept could be rolled out in schools.

Image
David Baddiel brought out an agenda-shifting new documentary called Jews Don’t Count on Monday night (21 November), and it’s kept people talking ever since.

Stars including David Schwimmer, Stephen Fry, Sarah Silverman and Miriam Margolyes talk to Baddiel on camera about their experiences of antisemitism in the documentary, which is a follow-up to Baddiel’s 2021 book of the same title.

Sue Perkins reveals homophobic comment by doctor who told her being infertile was "easier" because she's gay
Sue Perkins has recalled her shock at a doctor's homophobic response when he informed her that she was unable to have children.

The Great British Bake Off presenter discovered she was infertile in 2007, due to a benign brain tumour in the pituitary gland. In an extract from her memoir Spectacles (published in The Sunday Times Magazine), she recalled her upset when a consultant had claimed that her being gay made the news that she was unable to conceive "easier".

Perkins remembers the doctor telling her: "Oh, Ok. Well that makes it easier. You're infertile. You can't have kids."

Revealing that she eventually complained about the consultant a year after their conversation, the TV star added: "It really hit me, as it hits a lot of people, I'm sure, when it's too late, this is not going to happen.

"I can't now have it as an out-of-sight, out-of-mind possibility, lurking. Although...
