Kai Caster joins Spider-Noir and horror comedy Halloween Store
Image
Kai Caster played Dirk Bennett on ten episodes of the Prime Video series The Baxters, showed up in a season 3 episode of Magnum P.I. and a season 8 episode of American Horror Story, and – after playing Young Kayce in a season 2 episode of Yellowstone – was cast to play the character Rowdy in five episodes of the fifth season. Now, Deadline reports that Caster has landed a guest role in Prime Video’s Marvel-inspired series Spider-Noir and has also secured a leading role in the horror comedy Halloween Store.

Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we’re going to have the chance to watch him play the character in live-action in Spider-Noir, which has Cage taking on the role of an aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to grapple with...

Kenan Thompson executive producing horror comedy Halloween Store
Image
When Kenan Thompson joined Saturday Night Live in 2003, it was noted that he was the show’s first cast member to be born after the 1975 premiere (Thompson wasn’t born until ’78). These days, he’s known as the longest-tenured cast member in the show’s history, as he has been on there for 22 seasons – leaving the previous record, Darrell Hammond’s 14 season run (before he moved on to being the show’s announcer), in the dust. Now, Variety reports that, in addition to continuing to bring laughs to network television on a weekly basis, Thompson is also executive producing a campy horror comedy film called Halloween Store.

Director Shane Dax Taylor, whose previous credits include the Stephen Lang thriller Isolation, the Bella Thorne horror thriller Masquerade, the Dolph Lundgren action film The Best Man, and the Kelsey Grammer war movie Murder Company, is at the helm of Halloween Store, working...

Into the Deep clip previews a cage attack sequence in shark thriller
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Last year, we learned that, forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss had been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. The film received a digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical release last Friday, and will be getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK on February 3rd. To promote these releases, a clip from the film has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above. ‘Into The Deep’ Review
Image
Stars: Quinn P Hensley, Scout Taylor-Compton, Callum McGowan, Stuart Townsend, Richard Dreyfuss, Jon Seda | Written by Chad Law, Josh Ridgway | Directed by Christian Sesma

As a young girl, Cassidy saw her father killed by a shark while getting her to safety. Now a grown woman, Cassidy is returning to the same stretch of coast near Reunion Island on the anniversary of his death to try to put her nightmares behind her.

Along with her husband Gregg, they’re going out on a charter run by his friend Daemon Benz. On the way out she has a flashback to her grandfather Seamus telling his students “The ocean is a dangerous wonder, you’re a visitor here. You are a guest of their kingdom. Be careful.” It’s the first of many platitudes we’ll hear from him before the film is done.

In the present, as Cassidy, Gregg and the other divers head to their destination,...

Into the Deep Review: Sharks and Pirates Collide in Cinematic Duel
Image
“Into the Deep” mixes traditional shark thriller elements with a hostage drama, offering an alternative to standard storytelling. The film opens as Cassidy witnesses her father’s death by a shark, establishing her emotional path. The story examines both human and natural dangers, showing how human greed and environmental damage connect to modern social fears.

Director Christian Sesma’s underwater camera work brings to mind the visual approach of French New Wave directors like Truffaut, showing the ocean as both beautiful and dangerous. Though the flashback scenes sometimes interrupt the flow, the film keeps viewers engaged.

Delving into Depth: Character Exploration in “Into the Deep”

Cassidy stands out as a deep character study in “Into the Deep.” Scout Taylor-Compton plays her character from wounded victim to strong survivor. Her path goes deeper than fighting off threats – she faces the mental wounds from seeing her father die. Her story reminds me of New Wave films,...

Jaws Star Returning to Face a New Shark Threat in Into the Deep
Image
Richard Dreyfuss will star in the movie Into the Deep, battling a killer great white shark. It marks Dreyfuss' return to a shark-related movie since his role in Jaws in 1975. Dreyfuss has continued to add to his impressive list of credits at the age of 76.

It is almost fifty years since Richard Dreyfuss faced down a great white shark in Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, and now he is about to do it all over again in the new movie Into the Deep. Releasing later this year, the movie is "about a group of divers searching for sunken treasure who witness the murder of drug dealers by modern-day pirates, but that is the least of their worries as a killer great white shark stands between them and their escape from the water."

Dreyfuss’ character in the movie has not yet been revealed, but he will star alongside Scout Taylor-Compton, best known...

Exclusive: Brandon Slagle on the Hellish Watery Production of Gator Thriller The Flood
Image
Director Brandon Slagle is known for his fun, quick, in-and-out style and prolific indie filmography. While no film production is easy, he arguably met his greatest challenge with the new alligator thriller, The Flood. Starring Nicky Whelan and Casper Van Dien among others, The Flood centers on a Louisiana prison being battered by a hurricane; the flooding gets so bad that a congregation of alligators makes their way into the prison, and soon inmates and guards must work together to survive.

As one can imagine, shooting the wet alligator film was no dry picnic. “There were a lot of challenges filming in water,” Van Dien told MovieWeb. “We were in abandoned buildings that they tried to waterproof, but then they pour the water into it, but you know, the building has rats and snakes and bugs and dirt. The water is clean when they put it in, then everybody's walking through it,...

Exclusive: It's Gator vs. Hillbilly in New Clip from The Flood
Image
Is there anything more entertaining than when a man wrestles with an alligator? The answer, of course, is no. And thankfully, we have an exclusive clip of just such a battle, as man named Big Jimbo fights an alligator in a new clip for the new action horror flick, The Flood. Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and Saban Films, and led by Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien, The Flood finds a group of people at the mercy of many a giant, CGI alligator after a hurricane. Check out our exclusive clip from The Flood above.

“After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators,” the official synopsis for The Flood reads. “When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers. ‘The Flood’ Review – Toothless Action Sidelines Creature Feature Mayhem
Image
Borrowing a page from 2019’s Crawl, The Flood aims to escalate the thrills by pitting man-eating alligators against cops and prisoners in a flooded Louisiana jail amidst a raging hurricane. It’s a high concept scenario that lends itself well to action-horror thrills and B-movie fun. The Flood doesn’t quite follow through on execution, though. It’s not the rough effects that sink The Flood, but an overly convoluted plot that bogs down the runtime.

Louisiana sheriff Jo Newman (Nicky Whelan) already has enough on her plate, trying to corral her officers into preparing the leaking police station from further storm damage during a ferocious hurricane. Then she receives a phone call announcing the unexpected arrival of a prison transport bus in dire need of temporary shelter for the night. Newman’s reluctance gets overruled, and she’s forced to contend with a group of dangerous convicts, including cop...

‘The Flood’ Review
Image
Stars: Devanny Pinn, John Garrett Mahlmeister, Eoin O’Brien, Mike Ferguson, Randall J. Bacon, Bear Williams, Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, Kim DeLonghi, Louis Mandylor | Written by Chad Law, Josh Ridgway | Directed by Brandon Slagle

The Flood opens with Sommer and Clarence taking refuge from Hurricane Clarence in an empty building. That might protect them from the rain, but as they find out, the weather isn’t the worst thing about the storm.

The storm also causes a bus transferring a group of dangerous criminals, Big Jim, Floyd, Jox, Angelo and Russel Cody to take refuge for the night in a decrepit small town jail run by Sheriff Jo Newman.

Now if the first paragraph sounds a bit like Crawl and the second one makes you think of the opening of Assault on Precinct 13 you’re not the only one. And I’m sure writers Chad Law and Josh Ridgway were...

Exclusive: Casper Van Dien and Nicky Whelan Fight for Their Lives in The Flood
Image
Casper Van Dien couldn’t wait to dive into The Flood. Literally. “When I read the script for The Flood, they said it’s Con Air meets Anaconda, but with alligators, so I was like, ‘Oh, that sounds cool.’” In fact, The Flood is cool. In this fiery throwback to action-thriller romps from the 1980s and 1990s, the film also stars Nicky Whelan in a standout role along with Louis Mandylor.

As for the plot, after a devastating hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a deadly threat. The rising water is a major challenge but when a horde of giant hungry alligators enter the scene, things get even worse. Toss in a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seeking shelter in a local prison, and suddenly, you have a mixed bag of personalities, and deadly beasts, trying to escape flesh-eating attackers.

If that doesn’t grab you, perhaps director...

‘The Flood’ – Alligator Horror Movie Rated “R” for “Violence” and “Gore”
Image
Lionsgate and Saban Films will unleash the alligator horror movie The Flood this summer (watch the trailer here), and the film’s official MPA rating has been handed in this week.

The Flood has been Rated “R” for…

“Violence, some gore, and language throughout.”

The action-horror movie hits Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023. The premise suggests a Syfy-style monster movie – alligators inside a prison – but the execution looks a lot closer to Alexandre Aja’s Crawl than anything you’d find on the Syfy network.

Think Crawl meets Assault on Precinct 13.

The Flood is directed by Brandon Slagle (Frost, The Dawn) and co-written by Chad Law (Section 8, Close Range, 6 Bullets) and Josh Ridgway (The Sector, Howlers).

In the film, “A horde of giant hungry alligators is unleashed on a group of in-transit prisoners and their guards after a massive hurricane floods Louisiana.”
