Previous Exclusive, 12:01 Am: : The Toronto Film Festival has set the Godfrey Reggio-directed Visitors to have its world premiere at the festival September 8, in a most splashy manner. The film has an original score by Philip Glass and it is being presented by Steven Soderbergh. While that filmmaker is stepping away from directing features, he’s not done backing them and has been a big supporter of Reggio’s work since Koyaanisqatsi 30 years ago. The Toronto premiere will be presented in 4K digital projection and live accompaniment by members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Michael Riesman. The Toronto International Film Festival has announced their first film for the 2013 edition. It's a world premiere no less, and sure to be a popular choice.The film is titled Visitors, and "will have its world premiere at the Festival in September in stunning 4K digital projection with live accompaniment by members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Michael Riesman," according to a prepared statement by the festival. Tiff has also tagged Steven "I'm retired, no really" Soderbergh to "officially present" the film. "No, it wasn't scary at all," the girl said as she chatted to her friend on her mobile. "The old horror films are so funny." Much of the packed house at Hackney Empire thought the same of Tod Browning's 1931 movie Dracula, screened to a live performance by the Kronos Quartet of Philip Glass's score. There were no gasps of shock or horror (though one can imagine a 1930s audience recoiling at the more gruesome implications), only knowing chuckles and the occasional laugh out loud.

Vampire films, through countless reincarnations right up to the current Twilight craze, have made the conventions of the Dracula legend – crucifixes, mirror tricks and stakes through the heart – all too familiar.
