Exclusive: Annie Gonzalez is making her official debut as Jenni Rivera, the legendary Regional Mexican singer known adoringly by her fans as La Diva de la Banda, in the official trailer for the ViX Original Film, Jenni (above). The biopic will premiere via the TelevisaUnivision streamer and select theaters in the U.S. and Mexico on December 6.

From a screenplay by Shane McKenzie and Kate Lanier, Jenni follows Rivera’s journey from the beginning of her career in her hometown of Long Beach, California, to her meteoric rise in the music industry up to the last days before her tragic and unexpected death in a 2012 plane crash at the age of 43.

The project also tackles the struggles she endured in her personal life and how she persevered and found strength from within. This story of resilience and bravery shows the building blocks of what made Jenni Rivera who she was...

Kcet topped the list of Los Angeles TV stations with the most wins,10, at the 76th local Emmy Awards handed out by the Television Academy Saturday. It was followed by Kvea and Spectrum News 1 with 4 each, ABC7 and CBS2/KCAL9 with 3 and KTLA5 and Spectrum SportsNet with two.

One of KTLA5’s two Emmys went to the station’s veteran Ktla entertainment reporter Sam Rubin, who died of a heart attack in May. He was recognized for his news coverage of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Three stations split the honors for Regularly Scheduled Newscast in the different day parts: Spectrum News 1 (morning), Kcal (Daytime) and Kvea (evening).

The feast could feed hundreds, but it never does. As it descends, level by level, down a residential tower, each pair of cellmates have minutes to gobble as much as they can before the food moves on to the next floor. With no distractions except for that day’s meal, the citadel is a test of survival and humanity. Says an intake officer (Antonia San Juan), “We prefer to call it a vertical self-management center.”

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights, minus select Asian territories, to the Spanish-language sci-fi thriller “The Platform (El Hoyo),” which premiered in the coveted Friday night slot of the Midnight Madness program at the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff).

The film centers on a citizen of a not-too-distant dystopia who voluntarily incarcerates himself with the promise of increased social mobility upon release, but becomes so radicalized by his captivity that he will risk everything to ride a devilish dumbwaiter on a one-way ticket to protect a panna cotta.

Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia from a screenplay by David Desola and Pedro Rivera, the hot festival buzz title starsIván Massagué (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) and Antonia San Juan (“All About My Mother”), along with Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale and Alexandra Masangkay.
