Trivia

Dar Robinson

Edit
  • Robinson jumped from the CN-Tower, but opened the parachute only 90 meters off the ground. He received the largest salary for a stunt ever.
  • Subject of the 1987 documentary The Ultimate Stuntman: A Tribute to Dar Robinson (1987).
  • According to The Guinness Book of Records, Robinson was the highest-paid stuntman who received $100,000 for a single stunt. This he performed when he leaped from the top of the world's tallest free-standing structure, the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. The stunt was captured in the 1980 film Highpoint (1982) with Robinson free-falling an incredible 700' before deploying a concealed parachute, which he activated a mere 300' from the ground.
  • He was posthumously honored in 1995 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences with an honorary "Oscar" award for his many contributions to the art of film.
  • He never broke a single bone in his 19 years of television and movie work.
  • After his death, Cyclone (1987), in which he starred, was dedicated to his memory.
  • Was given his first movie job by his mentor and lifelong friend, stuntman Loren Janes.
  • Robinson was filming a stunt for Million Dollar Mystery near Page, Arizona, a small town about an hour northeast of the Grand Canyon. He was completing a motorcycle chase scene when he lost control of his bike at a planned high-speed turn and launched off a ledge, crashed into a rock, and then impaled himself on a tree, dying en route to the hospital.
  • Father of Troy Robinson and Shawn Robinson.
