  • Won a Tony Award in 2009 (Actor: Feature Role - Play) for the revival of "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" by August Wilson. Robinson was previously nominated in 1996 in the same category for "Seven Guitars," also written by August Wilson.
  • Earle Hyman was originally cast in the role Robinson played in the film Brother to Brother (2004). Robinson had been previously cast as the bartender in the film.
  • Served a stint in the US Navy where he played the oboe and tenor saxophone with the 3rd Naval District Band in Brooklyn. While in the Navy he studied acting with director Lloyd Richards and, while still in the service, was hired to play a soldier off-Broadway in "A Walk in Darkness:.
  • Briefly attended Everett (WA) Junior College before moving to Los Angeles in 1959.
  • Graduated from Bellevue High School (Seattle, WA) in 1958.
