- Won a Tony Award in 2009 (Actor: Feature Role - Play) for the revival of "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" by August Wilson. Robinson was previously nominated in 1996 in the same category for "Seven Guitars," also written by August Wilson.
- Earle Hyman was originally cast in the role Robinson played in the film Brother to Brother (2004). Robinson had been previously cast as the bartender in the film.
