Jane Rose

After twenty years honing his craft on ever-more precise filmic constructions, David Lean opened up his imagination for a story of loneliness and romance in Venice, Italy. A vacationing American woman searches for — she doesn’t know what. Katharine Hepburn reveals the vulnerable side of her personality, and the woman eventually leaves her fears behind. Lean creates the most compelling ‘relaxed vacation’ ever, yet every shot is as keenly envisioned as in any of his films. It’s an amazing ‘on location’ show that initially ran into trouble with U.S. censors — some thought it was morally incompatible with the Production Code, and shouldn’t be released here at all.

‘The Good House’ Toronto Film Festival Review: Sigourney Weaver Stands Out As An Alcoholic In Denial In Uneven Character Study
Image
I am not of fan of movies that resort to breaking the fourth wall, as it were, and letting their key characters talk incessantly to the audience. It is a device that generally feels lazy, a writer’s crutch to explain away story points instead of letting us discover for ourselves. The recent annoying pandemic comedy Together, with James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan as a bickering couple who sell their sides of ongoing marital arguments directly to the camera, is an example of why overuse of this technique can be so tired. Now along comes The Good House, which just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and where Sigourney Weaver as a functioning alcoholic real estate agent in North Boston offers her view on the town and its people with full sarcasm intact. It is based on the 2013 book by Ann Leary, and it seems this very literary conceit was...

Documentary on the Rolling Stones guitarist made by the director of Oscar-winner 20 Feet From Stardom.

Netflix has announced is will premiere documentary Keith Richards: Under the Influence on September 18 for its members worldwide.

The film about the Rolling Stones guitarist and rock’n’roll legend has been directed by Morgan Neville, who made Oscar winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom.

Neville said: ““If there’s a Mount Rushmore of Rock ’n’ Roll, Keith’s face is surely on it. He has always represented the soul of rock music—for all of the light and dark shades that implies.

“To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man - full of humor, knowledge and wisdom. That’s the real Keith we’ve worked to capture in our film and I’m honored to bring it to a global audience via Netflix.”

'The Big Bad' wraps - first pics of Red Riding Hood Horror
The Big Bad is a new feature-length horror/fantasy from writer Jessi Gotta and director Bryan Enck, with a performance by one of our fave character actors, Alan Rowe Kelly, and FX by NYC filmmaker Jane Rose. And we've got a whole bunch of gruesome stills to show you.

If you never thought that Little Red Riding Hood would make for a great revenge flick, you're lame. It's a perfect opportunity for a 21st Century Red Riding Hood to take her revenge out on the evil, vile wolf patriarchy that has kept her on the road to Grammy's for centuries.

It seems to be a growing trend - Catherine Hardwicke is hard at work on her own Red Riding Hood horror adaptation, and filmmaker Brad Palmer's Blood Redd, an independent werewolf/Red Riding Hood film, is soon to be released.

The Big Bad Synopsis: A loner named Frankie enters...

Jackson Browne stops by at Oceana event to give acoustic set
By Roger Friedman

HollywoodNews.com: Jackson Browne, on tour, stopped at the Oceana event in Watermill on Saturday night and played a full acoustic set on guitar and keyboards, by himself. The songs included “Running on Empty,” “The Pretender,” “Before the Deluge,” and “Rock Me On the Water.” At the end, he said he no longer cared what people thought about the fact that he’d written the Eagles’ most famous song, “Take It Easy,” and played it.

Oceana is the brainchild of Lois Robbins and Susan Rockefeller, with Keith Addis, designed to raise money for ocean conservancy. Could anything be more timely? Caroline Hirsch, of Caroline’s Comedy Club., is also very involved, as are Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. I ran into Charlie Walk, Kathy Schenker, Jane Rose, Fred Davis, John Howard, Jill Brooke, and Jackson’s girlfriend, Dianna Cohen, an artist from L.A. who created a...

Fans of either The Last Waltz and No Direction Home: Bob Dylan have an idea of what to expect, but as The Hollywood Reporter reports this will include an A-list of cinematographers Mitch Amundsen (2nd unit, "Mission: Impossible III"), Stuart Dryburgh ("The Piano"), Robert Elswit ("Good Night, and Good Luck"), Ellen Kuras ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"), Andrew Lesnie ("The Lord of the Rings

Keith Richards: A Stone Alone Comes Clean
Image
A drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other, Keith Richards dances around the New York office of his personal manager, Jane Rose, as Talk Is Cheap — his first solo album after a quarter century with the Rolling Stones — blasts out of the stereo. Beyond enjoying the grooves, Keith is also attending to business; he’s checking out slides, trying to choose cover art for the record. “Just put it in a brown paper bag,” he says jokingly at one point to Steve Jordan, with whom he wrote and produced the album.
