There’s a new Focker in the family — and a familiar face is back to welcome the chaos. Owen Wilson is officially returning to Universal’s Meet the Parents franchise, rejoining Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, and Teri Polo for the long-awaited fourth installment, now slated to release on November 25, 2026.
Wilson, who stole scenes in the original 2000 comedy as Kevin Rawley, the absurdly perfect ex-boyfriend of Pam (Polo) with a penchant for carpentry and tiny Speedos on tap, is back in the fold. His character — a charming, spiritually enlightened, insufferable rich guy — became a fan-favorite and returned for both Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010). Now, 14 years later, Kevin is back for more family madness.
The announcement of the sequel follows a 25th anniversary reunion for Meet the Parents at the Tribeca Festival on June 7. Speaking after a special screening, Stiller revealed that the inspiration for the fourth film came...

We’ve confirmed that Owen Wilson is returning for Meet the Parents 4 opposite Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo and new castmember Ariana Grande.
Wilson played Kevin Rawley in the series, the ex-fiancé of Polo’s Pam. Fair to say that Stiller’s Greg, who is looking to get the approval of Pam’s rigid father, Jack Byrnes, (De Niro), is a bit jealous of Kevin. Kevin becomes a nuisance and Jack loves to throw Kevin up into Greg’s face. Wilson’s Kevin is wealthy, and a guy of all trades, including being a carpenter.
While the plot is underwraps, THR says that one plot point centers around the song of Greg and Pam, “who gets engaged to a ball-busting woman who seems all wrong for him.” Grande is the fiancée.
John Hamburg, who co-wrote all three prior films, wrote the screenplay and is set to helm.

Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas any more. Good eye, Dorothy, but you’re not over the rainbow – you’re in Sin City. As we’ve reported, The Wizard of Oz is coming to the Sphere in Las Vegas, with the venue recently promoting the limited run by turning the exterior of the building into Dorothy’s house, complete with the feet of the Wicked Witch of the East (and her ruby slippers) underneath. And while that’s a pretty stunning visual to see in downtown Las Vegas, some may not be as impressed by how they are achieving what’s on the inside of the Sphere.
If you thought The Wizard of Oz in IMAX 3D was a questionable way to present the 1939 classic as it was in 2013, consider how much AI is being used to showcase it in the Sphere. For starters, yes, the...

Early Tuesday morning, the Sphere in Las Vegas was hit by a tornado, or at least a virtual tornado.
The building’s “Exosphere” swirled with storm clouds, and a digital house appeared when the smoke cleared, with a pair of legs and ruby slippers, 50 feet long and 22 feet high emerging from the Sphere. The stunt is meant to kick off the Sphere’s announcement that it would begin selling tickets to The Wizard of Oz, which will premiere in the venue Aug. 28.
“We thought it was appropriate to start with a stunt that really matches the size and scale of Sphere,” Sphere president and COO Jennifer Koester tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “I think the tornado showing up on the exosphere for our on sale moment is a good representation of what will happen inside the bowl when we think about an immersive experience of the Wizard of Oz.

It’s a Focker-Byrnes reunion!
Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo and director Jay Roach gathered for the 25th anniversary of “Meet the Parents,” a comedy of errors about male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) who endures a lot of painfully awkward hijinx while visiting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. De Niro plays Polo’s character’s father Greg Byrnes, a cat-loving retired CIA agent who rules with a well meaning (maybe?) but iron fist. They reunited at Manhattan’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center as part of this year’s Tribeca Festival, which was co-founded by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in 2002.
“It’s so much fun to hear laughter in a theater with comedy that’s 25 years old,” Stiller said during the Q&a after the screening. “It still works.”
Though a quarter century has passed since “Meet the Parents,” Stiller finds that audiences continue to associate him with Greg Focker.

Jay Roach and the Meet The Parents gang promised a topping great screenplay for the next edition, the franchise’s 4th, which recently set Ariana Grande along with original cast and announced John Hamburg is directing.
“The script is really good,” said De Niro after a screening of the 2020 hit where he famously flexed his comedy cops as Jack Byrnes, human lie detector and CIA dad hazing his daughter’s fiancé – played by Teri Polo and Ben Stiller. “I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
The audience is too, repeatedly cracking up during a 25th anniversary screening and reunion Q&a at the Tribeca Festival Saturday.
Asked to spill a little about the upcoming film, Stiller mused, “I don’t know. I don’t know what we can say. We can I probably tell you the whole plot?” He didn’t.

When actress Mira Sorvino thinks about what and who helped her launch her career, she credits Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal for giving her that break.
“Jane Rosenthal actually gave me my first job in the industry. It started off being a volunteer position — I was an intern at Tribeca Productions, reading scripts. Then it turned into a paid position as a reader after they ended up liking my coverage. I did that for two years, and during that time I actually read the script Amongst Friends that ended up being the first feature that I ever starred in. We went to Sundance and that launched my career,” the actress recalled. “Tribeca helped me start my career, and it’s always given a hand up to young artists and people who had the gumption to just go for it.”

Tribeca Film Festival co-founder and recent Variety cover star Jane Rosenthal hosted the annual Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon with the legacy fashion house on June 6.
Miley Cyrus attended just hours before her world premiere of “Something Beautiful,” The project places the pop-music icon in the director’s chair along with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.
“Throughout my career, my story has been told from so many lenses outside of myself and from so many perspectives outside of myself. I’ve been shot by so many photographers and directors and never been able to actually get behind the lens and see myself in the way that I do,” Cyrus told Variety on the carpet. “That’s something that makes it feel like really special and really intimate because I’ve never really gotten to actually tell my story in a way that really is this first person.

Nearly two weeks after first announcing his diagnosis with a brain disorder and canceling all upcoming performances, Billy Joel has released a new message to fans.
The words came via Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin, the directors of Billy Joel: And So It Goes, the two-part documentary series that just debuted its first installment during the opening of the Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday night.
"Getting old sucks," Joel said in his relayed message to attendees. "But it's still preferable to getting cremated."
The singer is currently undergoing treatment for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (Nph), a condition that involves the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain's ventricles and can lead to issues with mobility and cognition. The diagnosis prevented Joel from attending the premiere, as festival cofounded Jane Rosenthal explained at the event.

The 2025 Tribeca Festival kicked off with the world premiere of the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So it Goes, but its subject was unable to attend the celebration.
Joel announced last week that he had been diagnosed with brain disorder normal pressure hydrocephalus (Nph), leading him to cancel his upcoming concerts and prompting concern from fans.
In keeping with that focus on recovery, Joel wasn’t on hand for the Tribeca Festival opening night celebration, but the directors and producers of the two-part film, echoing comments made yesterday from Joel friend Howard Stern, indicated there’s no reason to be too concerned about the “Piano Man” performer.
“He’s going to be fine,” co-director Susan Lacy told The Hollywood Reporter before Wednesday night’s screening. “He just needs to recover. He needs to do the physical therapy, which he’s doing — the doctors were telling him yesterday he’ll be fine.

An ailing Billy Joel was not in attendance tonight at the world premiere HBO documentary about his life and music but sent word to a packed Beacon Theater in NYC via its director.
“Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all. He said ‘getting old sucks, but it’s still preferable to getting cremated’,” relayed Susan Lacy, who helmed and produced the doc Billy Joel: And So It Goes with Jessica Levin. Part 1 of 2 opened the Tribeca Festival Wednesday.
“Billy may be considered the poet laureate of New York. You feel the essence of our city in his lyrics,” said Tribeca Enterprises’ Robert De Niro introducing the festival and the film with co-founder Jane Rosenthal.
Joel’s scrappiness and immense talent are both vivid in the film about the Long Island bard who formed his first cover band, The Lonely Souls,...

From spring into the start of summer, the festival season keeps on rolling. Cannes just gave a jumpstart to the movie year ahead, but the 24th edition of the Tribeca Festival, happening all over New York City June 4 through 15, is here with another ambitious, genre-crossing lineup. This year’s festival — celebrating film, television, immersive storytelling, music, audio storytelling, iconic movie revivals, and more — boasts nearly 120 features across narrative and documentary forms. Tribeca also boasts a massive shorts program.
The festival, which understandably dropped “Film” from its name in 2022 two decades after starting in 2002 from Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff as a way to boost Lower Manhattan after September 11, offers its most musically inclined programming yet this year. Tribeca launches Wednesday, June 4 with the world premiere of opening nighter “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” an ode to the hit-making piano man. Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus’ visual album “Something...

The Tribeca Film Festival is all about the music.
Three years ago, Taylor Swift brought her directorial debut short “All Too Well” and revealed her desire to continue working in film. This time, it’s Miley Cyrus who moves behind the camera with “Something Beautiful,” which is being billed as a “one-of-a-kind pop opera.”
“We’re all about showcasing new ways for people to express themselves and differentiate themselves and explore whatever new forms of storytelling are speaking to them,” says Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of Tribeca.
This year’s festival isn’t just about the pop culture icons — though it will premiere new documentaries on Metallica, De La Soul and Billy Joel. Tribeca’s nonfiction lineup also includes intimate looks at news legends, sushi masters and even a giant manta ray named “Willy Wow.”
Then there are films that put a meta-twist on things by having real-life fathers and daughters...

Meet the Parents 4 is officially happening. Yes, you read that right! After more than a decade since the last chaotic family dinner, the beloved comedy franchise is returning for a fourth round of Focker-sized fun.
Before Greg Focker became the world’s most awkward son-in-law, Meet the Parents set the gold standard for comedy-of-errors family films. Released in 2000, the original movie had everything: a hilariously tense dinner table, an ex-CIA father-in-law, a runaway cat named Jinx, and Ben Stiller trying desperately not to burn the house down, literally.
With Robert De Niro’s stone-cold Jack Byrnes keeping tabs (and polygraphs) on Stiller’s nervous, well-meaning Greg, the film became an instant classic. Meet the Parents kicked off a full-blown franchise with Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010), pulling in over a billion dollars at the global box office. Ariana Grande has found her next movie role — starring opposite Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in Universal’s “Meet the Parents 4.”
Fresh off her Academy Award-nominated performance as Glinda in “Wicked,” Grande continues her relationship with the studio by joining one of its most successful franchises. The “Meet the Parents” movies — the 2000 original film and its sequels “Meet the Fockers” and “Little Fockers” — have accumulated $1.13 billion in global box office.
Plot details for the fourth installment are being kept under wraps, but, in this week’s Variety cover story, producer Jane Rosenthal teased that “Stiller is now the same age that [De Niro] was when we did the first one, and his kids have grown up, and they have to come home and meet the parents.”
John Hamburg, who co-wrote all three prior films, wrote the screenplay and is set to direct the film. Universal will release the film theatrically on Nov.

Months after earning an Oscar nomination for her performance in Wicked, worldwide pop star Ariana Grande has finally found her next movie.
The Grammy winning singer is set to join Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller in the newest installment of Universal’s comedy movies series, Meet the Parents.
Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, who also starred in the initial trio of movies that were released over the course of the first decade of the 2000s, are expected to return although those deals have yet to close, according to sources.
John Hamburg, who co-wrote all three prior films, wrote the screenplay for the new feature and is set to direct. Universal has dated the film for Nov. 25, 2026. (Jay Roach, who directed the first three, is now one of the producers.)
The conceit of the first movie was simple: the universal life event of having your future father-in-law give his blessing to a marriage proposal.

A fourth Meet the Parents movie is on the way. While Universal is keeping details about the sequel a closely guarded secret, franchise producer Jane Rosenthal has opened up a bit about what fans can expect from the new movie.
In an interview with Variety, Rosenthal shared that there had always been talks about doing another Meet the Parents ever since the release of the third installment, 2010's Little Fockers. While she didn't divulge much about the sequel's story, she did note an interesting parallel between the new movie and the original classic from 2000. "Ben Stiller is now the same age that Bob was when we did the first one, and his kids have grown up, and they have to come home and meet the parents. I can’t disclose anything else about the plot," the producer teased. As for how far along the movie is in development, Rosenthal joked,...

Jane Rosenthal is taking the pulse of the nonfiction feature space — and it doesn’t look good. The mega-producer and Tribeca co-founder told Variety during a recent interview that she is “worried” about how documentaries are faring, especially amid the current political climate and rise in streaming.
When asked how the “business” of documentary films are going — citing how the Tribeca Festival is known for spotlighting pioneering docs — Rosenthal lamented that perhaps the golden age of political documentaries has passed.
“I’m worried about that space,” Rosenthal said. “Fewer places are buying hard-hitting documentaries. If it’s about true crime, you’ll get a deal someplace. The bigger platforms — Netflix and Amazon — want more celebrity stories and sports stories. But for political stories, it’s harder to find a home.”
It’s a concern that many documentaries and distributors alike have also voiced: “We are caught in this terrible place...

It's been 25 years since comedy gold was struck with the Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro feature Meet the Parents. Eventually, a beloved franchise was born – one that grossed more than $1 billion at the box office (a notable performance considering it was a comedy). Naturally, in the age of nostalgia-driven revivals, a sequel was greenlit, and it's still in development. Producer Jane Rosenthal, a frequent collaborator of Robert De Niro, has offered the update we all needed: Greg and Jack will meet again, and this time, they'll have someone else to... torture.
Rosenthal spoke to Variety during a career retrospective. The co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival (along with De Niro) is an industry veteran who has produced projects like About a Boy and the TV series When They See Us. Most of her producing credits involve De Niro's films, including the Meet the Parents trilogy. When asked about the upcoming project,...
