Avengers: Top 15 Defensive Powers in Marvel History
Image
Marvel's Avengers have access to some of the most powerful and destructive abilities in its entire comic book universe. While it may be difficult to imagine ever needing a defense in the face of such overwhelming powers, strength is nothing if it can't break through an opponent's defense. Which makes defensive abilities just as important.

Having incredible destructive power is great when fighting supervillains, but the ability to obliterate an entire planet isn't exactly the most useful when it comes to saving civilians, or even protecting oneself. When Marvel villains are just as strong as the heroes, The Avengers' best defensive powers and abilities are the ones that guarantee heroes and civilians are able to survive a world at war.

Spider-Man's Spider-Sense Amazing Fantasy #15 by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Stan Goldberg, and Artie Simek

Galactus' First Appearance Is Getting a Brand-New Adaptation As He Prepares For a MCU Debut
Image
There’s arguably no bigger existential threat to the Marvel Universe than Galactus, and a new novel is now adapting the Fantastic Four story that first introduced him. This isn’t the first adaption of this story, nor will it likely be the last, but there’s a good reason for that, as it remains one of the most influential Marvel tales ever told.

Marvel has just announced a new prose novel, Fantastic Four: The Coming of Galactus, written by James Lovegrave, adapting the classic Fanatastic Four comic arc of the same name, the Galactus trilogy.

The original story appeared in The Fantastic Four (vol 1) #48-50 – written by Stan Lee, with art by Jack Kirby – and arguably, there is no better comic to adapt than this seminal text of the Marvel Universe that could have only come from Lee, Kirby, and the creative minds of Marvel during the 1960s.

Every Attempt to Hide the Infinity Stones in Marvel Lore (& Why They Didnt Work)
Image
The Infinity Stones are by far some of the most powerful items in the Marvel Universe. They have the ability to rewrite reality and grant the user near unlimited power. As such, there have been plenty of attempts to hide these stones due to how dangerous they are, but they're always found again. The stones have been scattered across the universe and held by Earth's mightiest heroes, but no matter where they are, someone always finds them.

The Infinity Stones were originally part of the first being in existence, who is known as Nemesis. After her death, the stones were scattered across the universe and eventually found by the elders of the universe. The majority of the elders were unaware of the Infinity Stones' true purpose or power, and it was Thanos who first tried to gather them in Avengers Annual #7 by Jim Starlin and Josef Rubinstein.

Fantastic Four Already Confirmed the Franchise's Most Essential Hero (& It's Not Reed Richards)
Image
Every superhero in the Fantastic Four plays an integral role in the team, but there's one member whose role is more crucial than the rest. The Invisible Woman may not be the leader like Reed Richards, yet one story proves that Marvel's First Family would cease to be if it weren't for her. The Fantastic Four can't function as a team without Sue Storm, therefore confirming that she's the team's most important member.

In What If? #42, entitled "What If Susan Richards Had Died in Childbirth?", by Peter B. Gillis, Ron Frenz, Joe Sinnott, and Janice Chiang, an alternate storyline is revealed for the events of Fantastic Four Annual #6 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Sinnott, and Sam Rosen, in which the Invisible Woman is giving birth to Franklin Richards but requires Element X from the Negative Zone to protect him from her body's cosmic rays. Normally, the Fantastic Four retrieve it...

Agatha Harkness's First Comic Appearance Might Surprise MCU Fans
Image
Agatha Harkness is set to star in her own Disney+ spinoff series, Agatha All Along, which kicks off with a two-episode premiere on September 18. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series stars Kathryn Hahn, a fan-favorite villain from WandaVision, as she awakens from the Scarlet Witch's spell and discovers that her magical abilities are gone. Desperate to regain her power, Agatha puts together a coven of witches and embarks on a journey down the Witches' Road, hoping to restore her strength. However, things turn out to be much more difficult than she thought, as Agatha faces off against an old colleague and enemy, Rio Vidal, played by Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza.

Before her appearance in the acclaimed Disney+ series WandaVision, Agatha Harkness wasn't a particularly well-known character. For most of her history in Marvel Comics, she played a supporting role in other characters' stories, never starring in her own solo title before her live-action debut.

X-Men: The Animated Series - Why Could Prof X Walk in the Savage Land? Nobody Knows
Image
X-Men: The Animated Series featured the Savage Land, a prehistoric place where the heroes face dinosaurs and other threats. In the episodes, Professor Xavier mysteriously regains the use of his legs temporarily as he and Magneto lose their mutant abilities. While the show seems to connect these two events, this connection does not make sense. Still, the strong story survives this glaring inconsistency.

Jumpstarting the Marvel Animated Universe of the 1990s and revolutionizing Saturday morning cartoons as a whole, X-Men: The Animated Series became a beloved landmark of animation for '90s kids and comic book fans. Featuring overlapping storylines and deep continuing sagas, the show brought the long-form storytelling of comic books to the world of cartoons. More importantly, it brought Marvel's mutant team to non-comics audiences in a big way: paving the way for the successful live-action movies and the superhero bonanza that followed.

Marvel's Most Underrated Cosmic God Finally Gets an Updated Look

Marvel's cosmic entities are being reimagined in G.O.D.S, with Oblivion being the most radically altered so far, going from an imposing, muscular figure to a mass of goo and claws. Artist Rom Lim is providing variant covers for G.O.D.S #3-8, in a series that pays homage to his work on 1994's Cosmic Powers. The McU's New Vanessa Fisk Could Bring the Rose

Daredevil: Born Again will introduce a new variant of Vanessa Fisk. This new Vanessa implies a new path for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin. The biggest change could usher in the debut of a classic Spider-Man villain.

In the wake of the now-resolved writer's strike, Daredevil: Born Again is undergoing a major shift in creative direction. Cyclops' Early Sexism Was Just Officially Explained by Marvel

Cyclops and Jean Grey have one of the longest-standing love stories in X-Men history – they have fallen in love, started a family, parted ways, faced death, and seen each other resurrected multiple times. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Improved Adam Warlock From Marvel Comics

The following contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, now in theaters.

Among old-school Marvel fans, Adam Warlock's appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is bound to cause some controversy. The character has a long -- and very complicated -- history in the comics, mostly as a cosmic mover and shaker. His Marvel Cinematic Universe version takes a very different approach, and while it's still early in his potential run in the franchise, the changes can already be felt. Not every old-school fan of the character will approve.

Yet it's a smart move, not only for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 but for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. HBO Partners With The Atlantic for ‘Question Your Answers’ Short Films Series
HBO is partnering with The Atlantic to produce a series of short films titled “Question Your Answers,” with the goal of challenging audiences to confront their own assumptions.

The series launched Tuesday with a short film featuring “Westworld” star Jeffrey Wright pondering the question, “Should I be scared?” Additional short films featuring your favorite HBO actors are underway.

Wright’s feature sounds like something a host from “Westworld” might grapple with: the short opens with the actor seated on an airplane, and he at first feels frightened by some turbulence. Throughout the short, different versions of Wright pop up, including the optimist and the “hair-on-fire headline reader,” evolving into a metaphor for current global instability.

“Through thought-provoking storytelling, HBO encourages audiences to challenge their most deeply held views and examine human complexities,” said executive vice president of consumer marketing at HBO Chris Spadaccini. “The Atlantic introduced an engaging platform to explore this concept and we are very excited to partner with them and extend the series, inviting viewers to consider multiple sides of some very timely questions.”

Sam Rosen, head of growth at the Atlantic, added: “Since our founding, The Atlantic has been a place for debate–home not to a single viewpoint but a spectrum of diverse, and often conflicting, ideas. That is, ultimately, what Question Your Answers is about: appreciating how civil discourse rests upon intellectual humility and critical self-reflection. We’re thrilled to be partnering with HBO in bringing that message to a wider audience.”

You can watch Wright in “Should I Be Scared,” directed by David Shane of O Positive Films, before “Westworld” on Sunday, May 13.

The first trailer for the family comedy The Oranges has been released. The film centers on two families who are both best friends and neighbors. Their tight relationship is strained when it’s discovered that the father of one family (Hugh Laurie) is having an affair with the grown daughter of the other family (Leighton Meester). Stuck Between Stations
Stuck Between Stations accurately summarizes this flat little-engine-that-can’t. Aspiring to the great heights of the indie genius of Jessica Westfeldt, justifiably idolized for Kissing Jessica Stein and the superbly moving new release Friends With Kids, the makers of this self-indulgent and staggeringly long 84-minute journey would have done better to watch, not do.

The plot loosely follows Casper (Sam Rosen) returning home scarred from war and running into a girl from elementary and high school, Becky (Zoe Lister Jones). What follows is the philosophical events of one night, a la Linklater, including cameos by David (Michael Imperioli), the academic advisor Becky has been sleeping with, and Paddy (Josh Hartnett, who’s fourth billed in the credits; he’s fallen far), the party friend who proselytizes about Casper’s role as a jackboot corporate drone who fights for Halliburton. Among the many examples of terrible writing in this project, Paddy’s rants elicit a nonsensical,...

DVD Release: Stuck Between Stations
DVD Release Date: March 13, 2011

Price: DVD $26.98

Studio: Lionsgate

Zoe Lister-Jones and Sam Rosen have a moment in Stuck Between Stations.

Zoe Lister Jones (Shadows & Lies) and Sam Rosen (Nobody) star in the 2011 independent comedy-romance film (okay, there’s some drama in there, too) Stuck Between Stations, which also features appearances by Michael Imperioli (The Lovely Bones) and Josh Hartnett (40 Days and 40 Nights).

In the movie, Casper (Rosen), a soldier home on bereavement leave, gets a second chance to make an impression on his childhood crush Rebecca (Lister-Jones), a promising grad student, after the two meet in a bar in Minneapolis. Drifting through the streets of their hometown, the pair embark on a night wherein they find themselves falling in love and falling apart.

The film’s whirlwind meeting-and-romance story has been done a zillion times (this one sounds a lot like Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise) and has been proven...
