Syfy Launches Evil Plan to Make Us Love Mondays With Lost Girl, Being Human, and Bitten
Just in case you haven’t checked out the SciFi Mafia calendar (there’s a tab for it above) lately, our Mondays are about to get a lot more crowded. This week marked the return of Almost Human, but next week is when things get crowded, as it is joined by the return of its Fox neighbor Sleepy Hollow, and Syfy unleashes an entire block of programming, with the return of Lost Girl and Being Human and the premiere of Bitten.

Synopsis

Syfy is continuing the trend of finding awesome Canadian efforts it can bring to American audiences, this time with the acquisition of Bitten. Based on the Women of the Otherworld novels by Kelley Armstrong, and starring Laura Vandervoort, this looks like it’s going to be an interesting show that fits right in with some of the networks gems.

Syfy Acquires Werewolf Drama Series ‘Bitten’ From eOne
Syfy has acquired the 13-episode first season of new Canadian scripted series Bitten from Entertainment One. It’s set to premiere in 2014. Based on Kelly Armstrong’s Women Of The Otherworld novels, Bitten stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena (Vandervoort) has abandoned her Pack and taken refuge in a new city. She returns to Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain, when bodies start turning up in her Pack’s backyard and she realizes she’ll stop at nothing to defend her Pack. Greg Bryk, Greyston Holt and Paul Greene also star. Bitten is produced by No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne in association with Space and Bell Media. This is similar to Syfy’s acquisition of Haven, which eOne also produces.

'Dogs' collars Sedgwick for Warner Bros.
Kyra Sedgwick has signed on to co-star with Diane Lane in Must Love Dogs for Warner Bros. Pictures. Sedgwick, who recently appeared in the Emmy-winning Something the Lord Made for HBO, will play Lane's sister in the film. Jennifer and Suzanne Todd are producing along with Gary David Goldberg (Spin City), who is directing from his own script. Must Love Dogs revolves around a divorcee whose Irish-American family enrolls her in a number of online dating programs after she decides to give up on men. Grant Rosenberg is the executive producer, with Warners' Polly Cohen overseeing for the studio. Sedgwick's upcoming movies include Cavedweller, The Woodsman and Loverboy. She is repped by WMA and managed by Handprint. Her legal reps are Schreck, Rose & Dapello.

Lane responds to 'Dogs' call

Diane Lane is set to star in Must Love Dogs, a romantic comedy that Gary David Goldberg wrote and will direct for Warner Bros. Pictures. Goldberg also is producing through his UBU Prods. banner. Based on Claire Cook's 2002 book, Dogs is about a 40-ish preschool teacher who seeks to remedy her single status with a personal ad. Warners exec Polly Cohen oversees, while Grant Rosenberg is the executive producer. The project is scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles in the fall. Naomi Shohan (American Beauty) has signed on to production design. A veteran television writer-producer, Goldberg created Family Ties and co-created Spin City. Lane starred in last year's Under the Tuscan Sun and received a best actress Oscar nomination for her work in Unfaithful. She recently wrapped Fierce People for Lions Gate. Lane is repped by Endeavor and manager Joan Hyler.
