Eli Roth’s new company The Horror Section officially launches with the theatrical release of Jimmy and Stiggs on August 15, and the brand’s next project has been announced.

The Horror Section will expand its slate with the award-winning Dream Eater, a terrifying found-footage chiller from the Canadian genre trio behind Blind Luck Pictures.

Co-written and co-directed by Jay Drakulic, Mallory Drumm, and Alex Lee Williams and starring Williams and Drumm, the film will debut theatrically on October 24, 2025.

Earlier this year, Roth launched a company called The Horror Section with plans to produce all things horror, including movies, TV shows, games, podcasts, and more. The Horror Section picked up the distribution rights to writer/director Joe Begos’s Jimmy and Stiggs and is teaming up with Iconic Events to give the film a wide theatrical release on August 15th (with Roth’s faux trailer The Piano Killer attached to it). Now, Variety reports that The Horror Section has also picked up the distribution rights to the found footage horror film Dream Eater, with the plan being to get it into theatres on October 24th. The second film acquired by Eli Roth’s The Horror Section is a low-budget, found footage nightmare that has taken horror festivals by storm.

After creating the Thanksgiving faux trailer for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007, Eli Roth wanted to make an entire feature out of faux trailers, a project he called Trailer Trash. Trailers he teased for that included Nascar Dog, Bear Witness, and Farmageddon, plus collaborations with Edgar Wright, Robert Rodriguez, Peter Berg, Howard Stern, and Greg Nicotero, among others. Sadly, Trailer Trash never happened – but we did get a Thanksgiving movie eventually. And today, a new Roth faux trailer has dropped online! It’s called The Piano Killer and it will be playing in theatres with the bonkers splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs, but you can watch it right now in the embed above.

Note that the faux trailer for The Piano Killer ends with the promise that the film is coming in 2042, a nod to the fact that it took seventeen years for the Thanksgiving movie to get made.

Nearly two decades ago, Eli Roth teased the world with a slasher flick centered around Turkey Day and, several years later, that movie served up a feature-sized production through Thanksgiving. Now, the celebrated filmmaker is in the trailer business again with the latest short-form project to come out under his new banner, The Horror Section. Titled The Piano Killer, the short but sweet project, which Roth created alongside his longtime collaborator, Jeff Rendell (Thanksgiving), gives fans yet another imaginative bit of content that could easily make its way into a longer format in the future. Per Variety, the HostelTV series is officially being developed at Peacock, with Paul Giamatti attached to star. The project was first announced in 2024 with Giamatti's involvement, but it had yet to find a home. Roth will write, direct, and executive produce the series, while Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who have been involved since the original 2005 film, will both serve as executive producers on the project. While plot details are unknown, it will likely continue the franchise's tendency to make audiences fear being hunted as tourists in a foreign land.

The movie was written and directed by Eli Roth, and followed American tourists in Slovakia, kidnapped by a mysterious group that allows wealthy elites to torture and murder people for money.

Despite the controversy surrounding its graphic violence and gore, the movie was a box office success, spawning two sequels, a follow-up written and directed by Roth, and a direct-to-video third movie, which Roth was not involved with. Roth had previously revealed his intent to develop further Hostel movies, though this looks to be going on a different path.

Eli Roth’s Hostel franchise is coming back to life with a television series, we recently learned, and Variety updates this morning that the series is in development at streamer Peacock.

Variety also notes in today’s report that Eli Roth will be writing, directing and producing the Hostel series, which marks his return to the franchise almost 20 years after Hostel: Part II.

The outlet reports, “Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who produced all the Hostel films, are executive producers. Fifth Season is the studio. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps.”

Giamatti is actually a longtime fan of the Hostel films. “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out,” Giamatti told EW in a 2013 interview.

According to Variety, the series is currently in development for Peacock, although it was first reported earlier this year without a confirmed platform.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer will develop the TV adaptation of the horror franchise with Paul Giamatti attached to star. The project hails from Roth, who directed and wrote the first two “Hostel” movies, as well as “Hostel” producers Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss.

Produced by “Severance” producer Fifth Season, the “Hostel” TV series is billed as a modern “reinvention” of the horror franchise, which kicked off with the 2006 movie. The original film centered on a group of American tourists whose trip to Slovakia turns upside down when they are taken individually by an organization that allows people to torture and kill others.

The news comes over a year after the project was reported to be in the works from Roth, Briggs, Fleiss and Fifth Season, with Roth intended to direct the TV show and write the script.

Peacock is offering a place to stay for a Hostel series project from filmmaker Eli Roth and star Paul Giamatti.

That movie is Death Wish, a 2018 remake of the 1974 film of the same name, following Willis' Dr. Paul Kersey as he vows to take revenge on the perpetrators of a horrific crime that left his wife and young daughter the victims of a brutal attack. Also starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Greyhound's Elisabeth Shue, and Law & Order: Organized Crime's Dean Norris, the movie was helmed by Eli Roth, six years before he would bring the disastrous adaptation of Borderlands to the big screen.

MGM+ subscribers cannot get enough of an overlooked action remake starring Bruce Willis. Death Wish, a modern-day remake of the classic Charles Bronson-led action flick, has begun climbing the Top 10 chart on the streaming service.

Prime Video has pushed The Green Inferno back into the spotlight, nearly ten years after its theatrical release. Eli Roth’s Amazonian nightmare, once dismissed as a niche horror curiosity, has clawed its way into the top 10 global Prime Video rankings. According to Flixpatrol, it took the ninth spot yesterday, with 72 points on its very first day. This is a notable bump for a film that barely crossed $13 million at the box office when it opened.

What Is The Green Inferno About?

The Green Inferno brought a brutal throwback to the Italian cannibal genre, long before Midsommar sent audiences spinning. The story, inspired by Cannibal Holocaust, throws student activists into the Amazon rainforest, only for them to be captured by a flesh-eating tribe. It is more blood-soaked than most horror films made in the last decade, and it never really aimed for mainstream comfort.

Before there was Midsommar, there was The Green Inferno. The controversial horror film, directed by Eli Roth, riffed on the Italian exploitation movie Cannibal Holocaust, and followed a group of activists who are taken prisoner by a cannibalistic tribe in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. The Green Inferno was a particularly gruesome film, far more extreme than most mainstream horror that's produced these days. While it didn't set the box office on fire — it made its money back, though — the movie was almost engineered for home video success. And as it celebrates a decade, it has witnessed a spike in viewership on Prime Video.

According to FlixPatrol, The Green Infernoclaimed the ninth spot on the global Prime Video charts on July 18, earning 72 points on its first day of availability. The list was topped by the holdover hit Heads of State, starring John Cena, Idris Elba, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is set to honor Bruce Springsteen, Penélope Cruz, Bowen Yang and Walter Salles at its fifth annual fundraising gala, set for Oct. 18.

Springsteen, who will perform live at the event, will receive the inaugural Legacy Award, given to an artist whose body of work has inspired generations of storytellers and deeply influenced culture. Cruz is being recognized with the Icon Award, celebrating an artist whose career has had a big worldwide impact.

Yang will receive the Vantage Award, given to an emerging artist helping to challenge existing, entrenched narratives around film.

Salles is set to be honored with the Luminary Award, given to an artist whose contributions have expanded the creative possibilities of filmmaking.

Both Springsteen and Cruz are Oscar winners, and Yang is part of the cast of the Oscar-winning Wicked, the second part of which, For Good, is set to hit theaters on Nov.

Len Wiseman's "Ballerina" understands that stylistic action is its most important quality. Whenever Eve (Ana de Armas) beats up her unusual villains during her quest for revenge (even using grenades to fight her way out at one point), "Ballerina" blossoms, giving us the impression that it truly belongs in the world of "John Wick." Everything else, however, is rather lackluster, even when John Wick (Keanu Reeves) himself shows up to aid Eve in her mission. Of course, watching Reeves in action is always a welcome sight, especially when his Wick veers into morally complex extremes. However, the character's presence in this time period (which takes place between the third and fourth "Wick" film) feels more jarring than plausible, evoking tonal confusion even when the Eve/Wick team keeps things interesting enough.

While Wick's presence in "Ballerina" feels tacked on, it is admittedly intriguing...
