Christopher Judge's Favorite Stargate Sg-1 Episode Makes So Much Sense
Image
Christopher Judge's Teal'c was one of the most important characters in "Stargate Sg-1." Both the actor and his character's inclusion in the series were significant since neither had appeared in Roland Emmerich's 1994 "Stargate" movie, which kicked off the sprawling sci-fi franchise we know today. While "Sg-1" brought back some characters from the movie, the show also introduced new characters, most notably with Amanda Tapper's Samantha Carter and Judge's Teal'c. It's at least in part a testament to the actor's abilities, then, that the show managed to sustain itself outside of the Emmerich film, with both Tapper and Judge proving to be fan-favorite characters that stayed with the series until "Sg-1" was cancelled by the Sci-Fi Channel after ten seasons.

But Judge was integral to "Sg-1" in other ways, too. Though he never directed an "Sg-1" episode, he did write three: season 6's "The Changeling," season 7's "Birthright," and season 8's "Sacrifices.

'Virgin River' Fans Can Stay on Netflix for This Feel-Good Romance Story
Image

The season finale of any captivating series is usually the most exhilarating one, but it is often equally devastating as it comes with the realization that the agony of having to patiently wait for the story to continue is back again. It doesn’t get easier, no matter how many seasons a series already has, and one of Netflix’s most beloved romance series is the ultimate proof of that.

Virgin River, which has rapidly become a romance staple on the streaming platform and is seemingly here to stay, was first released in 2019 and already consists of six thrilling seasons. Luckily enough, it has been renewed for a seventh season. However, with the release date still unknown, it is high time to find another feel-good romance series on Netflix.

Will There Be A Virgin River Season 7? Everything We Know So Far
Image
Here’s All We Know About Virgin River Season 7 So Far (Photo Credit – Netflix)

Virgin River is one of the most popular and longest-running shows on Netflix. The romantic drama has been on air since 2019 and follows the story of Melinda “Mel” Monroe, who relocates to the titular town to work as a midwife. However, she soon realizes that the small-town life is not as easy-going as she thought. The show recently finished airing its sixth season, which ended on a high note. Fans are now wondering if and when Virgin River Season 7 will premiere on Netflix.

Virgin River Season 7: Renewal Status

Virgin River fans would be excited to learn that the show has been renewed for a seventh season. Netflix announced the series renewal in October 2024, even before the Season 6 premiere. “There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith said in...

‘Virgin River’: Mark Ghanimé Leaving As Series Regular After 3 Seasons
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes a detail about Season 6 of Netflix’s Virgin River.

Mark Ghanimé is leaving Virgin River as a series regular. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed the departure in a wide-raging interview with Deadline addressing Season 6 and 7 burning questions.

The news is not surprising. After Ghanimé’s character Cameron reconnected with his ex-fiancee in the Season 5 finale, he has barely been on the show, only making a couple of trips to Virgin River in Season 6 from San Diego where the two are trying to rebuild their relationship.

Cameron’s last scene in the Season 6 finale felt like a farewell when he declined a dance with former flame Muriel to head back home, promoting her to ask (for all of us), “So this is goodbye?”

But this may not be the last time we see Cameron on Virgin River.

“Cameron will always be part of our world, and...

‘Virgin River’ Season 5 Recap: What to Remember Before Season 6
Image
Peaceful small town though it may seem from afar, “Virgin River” always packs in the drama. Each new episode brings emotional revelations and monumental moments for your favorite (or least favorite) residents and Season 5 was no different. In fact, with two parts and 12 episodes, it had even more room for life-changing events and gasp-worthy twists. So if you need a refresher, here’s a complete breakdown to recap “Virgin River” Season 5 in a hurry.

Netflix Doc and Hope Stayed Strong Through Health Struggles

Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) spent much of the season navigating their relationship and careers through health challenges. Doc grappled with his deteriorating eyesight, which threatened to end his medical career — especially after Cameron (Mark Ghanime) clocked him struggling on the job. Hope continued to recover from her brain injury, and nearly lost her position as Mayor after Muriel (Teryl Rothery) brought a vote of no-confidence against her.

Christopher Judge Pitched A Stargate Sg-1 Spin-Off That Would Have Changed The Franchise
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Stargate Sg-1."

The best part of "Stargate Sg-1" — apart from its exciting premise about visiting alien worlds — is its central, titular crew. Among them, Teal'c of Chulak (Christopher Judge) is easily a fan favorite. The Jaffa revolutionary has a masterful way of making his presence felt, even when he's lurking in the background of some scenes. Moreover, Teal'c has undergone hell in his journey to defy Goa'uld and a lifetime of indoctrination, which he was able to leave behind to join the Stargate Command. And if you ask me, Teal'c is simply the coolest.

Judge, who portrayed Teal'c with such grace and understated magnetism, went on to reprise the role in the series sequel "Stargate Atlantis" (where he appeared in two episodes), along with the direct-to-dvd "Stargate" films "The Ark of Truth" and "Continuum." The actor, who is best known for playing Kratos in the...

The Real Reason Teryl Rothery Left Stargate Sg-1
Image
For a staggering ten seasons, "Stargate Sg-1" continued the story that began in Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich's 1994 "Stargate" movie that starred Kurt Russell as Jack O'Neill, a Special Operations colonel who oversaw a program allowing people to travel through wormholes to reach distant planets. Russell refused to reprise his role from the movie in the TV series, stepping aside so "MacGyver" actor Richard Dean Anderson could take over as O'Neill. Among the other actors who joined the show was Teryl Rothery, who played Dr. Janet Frasier on "Stargate Sg-1" for seven seasons and 75 episodes.

As Stargate Command's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Frasier tended to the wounded and became a nice, familiar face in the process. Despite the fact that Rothery technically appeared as a guest star on the show, the number of episodes in which she appeared helped audiences build a relationship with her over time, and after so many appearances,...

‘Virgin River’ Season 6 To Premiere Earlier Than Expected, First-Look Images Released
Image
Just in time for Christmas — the sixth season of Virgin River is set to premiere Dec. 19. And it’s not one of those half-season drops that Netflix has been doing a lot of lately — all 10 episodes of Season 6 will be available that day.

That is slightly ahead of schedule — Netflix at the start of February unveiled its 2024 original slate, and Virgin River, along with a slew of other fan favorites, like Stranger Things, Ginny & Georgia and Wednesday, were not on the list, pointing to a 2025 return.

However, nothing is set in stone — Virgin River is the second series originally eyed for 2025 that will be back sooner than anticipated. The other is The Lincoln Lawyer, whose third season was delivered early and will debute Oct. 17.

Meanwhile, a series that was on Netflix’s 2024 release list, Season 2 of breakout hit The Night Agent, is yet to get a premiere date.

Season 6 of Virgin River,...

Stargate Sg-1's Co-Creator Has Two Regrets Over The Sci-Fi Series
Image
The premise of the 1997 sci-fi series "Stargate Sg-1," which spun out from the 1994 movie, is fun. The American military has in their possession a series of ring-shaped Stargates that can instantaneously transport them to distant planets. The Stargates had previously been used by ancient aliens to infiltrate Earth and pose as deities; the gods of Egypt were in fact conquering extraterrestrials called the Goa'uld. The military uses the Stargates to travel to distant worlds and gather powerful weapons technologies, hoping to use them to defend themselves from the Goa'uld. Alien weapons are a major factor throughout the massive "Stargate" franchise.

Of course, the ensuing mythology of "Sg-1" becomes massively complicated, and only deep-cut fans will be able to give a casual reader all the necessary details to understanding the original series and its multiple spin-offs; after completing all 10 seasons of the original show, one might also want to watch "Stargate Infinity,...

Stargate Sg-1: Why Janet Fraiser (Teryl Rothery) Left
Image
Quick Links What Was Stargate Sg-1? Who Was Doctor Janet Fraiser On Stargate Sg-1? Dr. Fraiser's Death Shocked Stargate Sg-1's Cast and Crew Teryl Rothery Remembers Exactly When She Learned She Was Leaving Stargate Sg-1

Dr. Janet Fraiser dutifully served the Stargate franchise for seven seasons as Stargate Command's Chief Medical Officer. During her time on Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright's series Stargate Sg-1, she saved the lives of every member of the Sg-1 team and was a beloved member of the crew. Fraiser was kind and benevolent but unafraid of risking her life if it meant saving the life of another. The latter led to her being killed in the Season 7 two-part episode "Heroes," when she rushed onto the battlefield to stabilize injured airman Simon Wells and lost her own life. Dr. Fraiser died as she lived -- working tirelessly in dangerous situations to help others.

Virgin River Season 6 Wishlist: 9 Things We Want To See
Image
Spoilers are ahead for Virgin River season 5, part 2.

Mel's biological father, Everett, has urgent news for her in Virgin River season 6, which will probably have many lasting impacts. Doc's role as a surrogate father to Mel will be impacted by Everett's presence. There are hints that Brady and Brie may get back together in the upcoming season.

Although Netflix officially greenlit Virgin River season 6 awhile ago, viewers' wish lists of what they want to see unfold in the new outing are growing longer by the minute, especially in the wake of Virgin River season 5, part 2. While the Christmas-themed episodes certainly answered a few burning questions, the two-part special teased several more plotlines for the romantic drama's upcoming installment. In Virgin River season 5, part 2's ending, viewers learn that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) does have a bioparent who's alive and well. Known as "Champ," Virgin River's Everett is Mel's biological father,...

Virgin River Season 5 Part 2 Ending Explained
Image
Spoilers are ahead for Virgin River season 5, part 2's finale (episodes 11 and 12).

Mel learns more about her mother's affair and discovers her biological father's identity through a town-wide investigation with Jack. Charmaine finally gives birth to healthy twin boys, marking the end of her pregnancy storyline. Preacher and Kaia take their relationship to the next level, but the discovery of Wes' body could lead to devastating consequences for Preacher and the town.

In Virgin River season 5, part 2, the titular town undergoes a Christmastime transformation, but the top-notch gossip and twisty romances remain the same. At the end of Virgin River season 5's first installment, Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) discovered that her late mother had an affair. As fate would have it, her mom's fling was from Virgin River; in another shocking turn, the mystery man might even be Mel's biological father. How Old Virgin River's Main Characters Are
Image
Main character Mel is approximately 32 years old when she first arrives in Virgin River, according to author Robyn Carr's source material. Jack, the bar owner, is estimated to be around 42 years old based on his military service history and the timeline of the show. Other characters Cameron, Muriel, Preacher, Hope, and Doc are likely in their late 40s to 70s based on the age of the actors and the clues provided in the series.

In several cases, the ages of the actors in Virgin River don't match their characters. When Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) arrives in the fictional Northern California town, she starts a hot-and-cold romance with local bar owner Jack (Martin Henderson), and meets the various personalities that inhabit — and stir up drama in — the town of Virgin River. With five seasons under its belt, the highly popular romantic drama shows no signs of slowing down.

That said, Virgin River...

Why Netflix’s Virgin River Is Perfect Comfort Watch TV
Image
An idyllic setting, charming cast, and sweet love story are often the ingredients needed for a good comfort watch. The desire to escape everyday pressures since the pandemic has seen viewers like myself going back to old favorites such as Gilmore Girls or finding something newer like Virgin River, currently streaming its fifth season on Netflix.

With each season reaching Netflix’s top ten, Virgin River has capitalized on fan’s love of Robyn Carr’s 21-book-long series of the same name and our increasing impulse to find new shows that don’t require too much of our attention. Virgin River is precisely that as it lacks terror-inducing Jaws music and instead provides Hallmark-esque vibes with the added dash of danger from the illegal drug trade surrounding the town.

The series follows nurse practitioner Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who moves to the remote California town of Virgin River to...

‘Virgin River’ Director On Season 5 Part 1 Finale’s Biggest Twists, Creating Rain In “Angel’s Peak,” Battling Rain In “Labor Day” & More
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episodes 509 (Angel’s Peak) and 510 (Labor Day) of Netflix’s series Virgin River.

Part 1 of Virgin River‘s fifth season came to a close with eventful last two episodes. In typical Virgin River fashion, there were bombshell revelations — Lizzie is pregnant, baddie Calvin is the father of Charmaine’s twins, and the big one is the cliffhanger that set up the upcoming Christmas-themed two-episode Part 2 — Mel’s biological father is likely a man from Virgin River, identity unknown (for now).

That last shocker does stretch the limits of believability, even for a soapy romantic drama, as Mel originally landed in Virgin River, a place she said she had never heard of, after answering an ad.

In other developments, Jack takes Mel on a hike to Angel’s Peak to have a heart-to-heart after she had pulled away following her miscarriage. They get lost and rained on,...

Stargate Sequels Would've Brought Yetis, Loch Ness Monster Into the Franchise
Image
Had there been a sequel to 1994's Stargate, the franchise would have moved beyond Egyptian extra-terrestrials.

During an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, franchise producer and co-creator Dean Devlin discussed his and film collaborator Roland Emmerich's abandoned sequel plans for Stargate, as well as for 1996's Independence Day and 1998's Godzilla. The duo found so much mainstream success starting with Stargate that they planned to make a trilogy, with the second installment asking, "[W]hy are there pyramids in Mayan culture" and the third installment bringing the entire mythology together. "The third one was going to tie everything together," Devlin said. "We were gonna have the Yeti, we were gonna have the Loch Ness Monster. It was all going to make sense how these things are tied together."
