Why Fox Canceled The O.C.
Image
Ask your typical Millennial about "The O.C." — the primetime teen soap that aired on Fox from 2003 to 2007 — and I'm willing to bet that the show's iconic theme song, "California" by Phantom Planet, just started playing in their head. Created by Josh Schwartz, the series starts out by introducing audiences to Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a troubled kid from Chino who ends up in jail after stealing a car with his older brother. When Ryan meets his public defender Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), the big-hearted lawyer offers his aid ... and when Ryan goes back home only to discover that his mother has moved and left him behind, Sandy takes Ryan to live with him in the affluent Orange County. Despite initial concerns from Sandy's wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), Ryan fits in pretty well with the Cohens, immediately forging a friendship with her only son Seth (Adam Brody) ... and when he meets...

Sylvester Stallone's 10 Best Action Movies
Image
Sylvester Stallone is one of the biggest action movie stars on the planet and has an astounding career playing brave heroes, skilled assassins, and even traumatized veterans. While Stallone gained his breakout role as the underdog fighter Rocky Balboa in his famous sports franchise, following this success, he carved out another career as a true action movie star chasing bad guys and bringing crooks to justice. Spurred by his longstanding rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone has continually pushed himself toward more over-the-top, chaotic, and wildly entertaining action movie releases.

Many of Stallones best films were in the action movie genre, as he excelled in the Rambo franchise and portrayed countless heroes across prison movies, thrillers, sci-fi films, and more. With an often underappreciated skill for portraying tough guy characters as well as layered and noble lawmen, Stallone has proved his skills by acting opposite everyone from Antonio Banderas to Robert De Niro.

Peter Gallagher on Why He’s Grateful His ‘The O.C.’ Co-Star Mischa Barton Is “Still Alive”
Image
Peter Gallagher reveals which of his former co-stars on The O.C. he’s “very protective” of.

The actor, who played Sandy Cohen in the hit teen drama, recently opened up to The Independent about the negative impact of fame and how he always found himself looking out for Mischa Barton, who played Marissa Cooper on the show centered on wealthy teens living in Newport Beach, California.

“I’ve always felt very protective of her,” Gallagher said. “First fame is toxic. First fame can kill you. She was 16 years old when she started working with us, so just the fact that she’s still alive, I’m just so grateful.”

Gallagher and Barton worked alongside each other throughout the first three seasons of the show, which ran from 2003 to 2007. Marissa was the love interest of Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), who was taken in by the Cohen family, including Peter, Seth Cohen...

How Old The O.C. Cast Was Compared To Their Characters
Image
The O.C. was one of the staple teen dramas of the aughts, partly thanks to its iconic cast, including names like Mischa Barton. It takes place in Orange County (The O.C.) in Southern California and ran for four seasons before the network canceled it. The show's catalyst was when Ryan Atwood, a troubled teenager from a broken home in Chino, moved in with the Cohens, a wealthy family living in an upper-class community in Newport Beach. Ryan and the Cohens, which included Sandy, Kirsten, and Seth, came from different worlds, but they eventually learned how to operate as a unit.

Although The O.C. contained many side plots and important storylines, the central one revolved around how Ryan fit in with the rest of the characters. The culture clash between Ryan's upbringing and the Cohens' was a main conflict throughout the series because he was so young and had a rough childhood.

Chris Pine Recalls 'Trauma' of Losing Out on The O.C. Role For A Reason Beyond His Control
Image
Missing out on a role on The O.C. due to bad skin was traumatic for Chris Pine, affecting his confidence and causing Ptsd. Pine acknowledges that shows like The O.C. seek aesthetically beautiful casts, which impacted his chances as a struggling actor. Despite the setback, Pine's career flourished in various film genres post-audition, indicating he's at peace with missing out.

Before Chris Pine became a bonafide movie star in such films as Into The Woods and the rebooted Star Trek franchise, he was once a struggling actor that was looking for the next big audition. As was the case with most actors at his age at the time, Pine went out for what was to be the next big teen series sensation on Fox, The O.C.. The Candyman Movies Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
"Candyman" began its life in 1985 as a short story called "The Forbidden," originally published in Clive Barker's "Books of Blood, Vol. 5" (called "In the Flesh" in the United States). "The Forbidden" was set in Barker's hometown of Liverpool, specifically at a run-down building called the Spector Street estate, where a grad student named Helen went to photograph images of graffiti and poverty. While there, she encountered a mysterious monster the Candyman, a creature she assumed was merely an urban myth. The Candyman is covered in bees and sports a hook for a hand. Its origins are unknown.

In 1992, filmmaker Bernard Rose adapted "The Forbidden" into the feature film "Candyman," one of the more celebrated horror films of its decade. Helen was played by Virginia Madsen, and the mysterious Candyman was played by a menacing Tony Todd. Rose transposed the location from Liverpool to the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago.

“Welcome to The O.C., bitch!”

With those five immortal words, a cultural phenomenon was born.

The brainchild of a then-25-year-old Josh Schwartz, and guided by the steady hand of his producing partner Stephanie Savage, The O.C. ran for four chaotic seasons on Fox before sailing off into the sunset (or, in the case of poor Marissa Cooper, crashing in a fiery wreck).

A fish-out-of-water tale about Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a troubled kid from Chino who’s adopted by Sandy (Peter Gallagher), Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), and Seth Cohen (Adam Brody...

‘The O.C’ Cast: Where Are They Now? (Photos)
Image
Can it really be 20 years since “The O.C.” premiered on Fox? The young actors of the series, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson quickly became in-demand stars and the theme song “California” by Phantom Planet became a top ten hit in several countries while also reaching 35 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.

The bagel-centric series also introduced us to “Chrismukkah” and showcased bands from The Killers to Modest Mouse.

Several members of the cast went on to lead their own series and films and others have popped up on hit shows from “How I Met Your Mother” to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Here’s what they’ve been up to since “The O.C.” signed off in February 2007.

Why The O.C. Shouldn’t Have a Reboot According to Series Creators
Image
Almost no successful series or movie is saved from its reboot or continuation today in the Hollywood industry. But it seems that this will not be the case of The O.C., one of the most popular teen series of the early 2000s.

Premiering in 2003, the show aired on Fox for four seasons reaching 92 episodes for its finale in 2007. And although it may not seem like much for a tv production of that time, The O.C. It is remembered as one of the most successful teen productions in the history of television, and that is why for a long time now fans have been asking for a reunion, a continuation, or even a reboot.

And although given the popularity of the series and that so many others of the same style have done it, such as Teen Wolf recently, it seems that it will not happen with The O.C. Speaking on the Crew Call podcast,...

Why It's The Perfect Time For A Reboot Of The O.C.
Image
The O.C. became a pop culture phenomenon in its debut 20 years ago, and now is the perfect time for a reboot. The series may have only been on television for four years, but it encapsulated early 2000s fashion, revived music montages in television, and popularized the term "Chrismukkah." The show’s mix of classic teen soap opera tropes and meta-humor made each new episode the most discussed topic on MySpace at the time. In a period of ceaseless reboots and millennial nostalgia, The O.C. is ripe for a reboot.

The O.C.'s release in 2003 came with the rise of social media and television’s obsession with young socialites. Creator Josh Schwartz had his finger on the cultural pulse when he showed the drama of privileged teens while also skewering their lifestyle. What separated The O.C. from other teen soaps was its self-deprecation, wit, and showcase of alternative culture. The show starred Ben McKenzie,...

The 6 Best Shows Like The O.C.
Image
The O.C. was one of the defining teen shows of the early 2000s, inspiring many other similar shows throughout the years. The series takes place in an upper-class beach community in Orange County, where teenage troublemaker Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) must adapt to his new reality after the wealthy Cohens take him in. From its 2000s-era fashion to Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) and Summer Roberts' struggles with alcoholism to Julie (Melinda Clarke) getting an education. However, the show is most remembered for the trials and tribulations of its four lead teen characters, Ryan, Seth, Summer, and Marissa (Mischa Barton). The O.C.'s cast became huge stars thanks to the show's success, and it gave rise to a wave of teen shows with similar underdog characters, forbidden love, and steamy summer setting.

Why Alan Dale's Caleb Left The O.C. In Season 2, Explained
Image
Alan Dale plays Caleb, a major character in The O.C., who is unexpectedly killed off in season 2. The O.C. is one of the most popular shows of the 2000s, but tumultuous behind-the-scenes factors led to low ratings, which eventually caused the show to prematurely end in season 4. The show follows a troubled teenager, Ryan (Ben MacKenzie), as he tries to adapt to the new lavish reality of California's Orange County, meeting friends, falling in love, and making a bunch of enemies on the way.

The O.C. is one of the defining teen shows of its generation, alternating between a high-school setup and the adult world, addressing serious topics such as depression, teenage angst, and class discrimination in a light-hearted approach. Although The O.C. only counts on a few major deaths before it ended in season 4, they deliver an abrupt change to the plot that isn't as well-received as anticipated.

The actors played the Cooper family on the hit Noughties drama, with Donovan and Clarke portraying Jimmy and Julie Cooper and Barton played their troubled daughter, Marissa.

Adam Brody Says ‘The O.C.’ Reboot Wouldn’t Work in Post-Trump America
Image
As reboots, remakes and reimaginings continue to dominate Hollywood, “The O.C.,” one of the most popular teen dramas of all time, would certainly be ripe for a revival. But nearly two decades after the pop culture phenomenon premiered, star Adam Brody says bringing back the show wouldn’t be a good idea.

“I kind of don’t think it can be done because socially we’re in a different place and we’re in a more conscious place,” Brody said Tuesday on the podcast “Welcome to the Oc, Bitches,” hosted by his former co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke. “While ‘The O.C.’ claims to be — in a similar sense as a ‘Gossip Girl’ — while it would sort of say it’s a critique, it’s not. It’s a celebration — it’s a celebration of affluence in my opinion.”

The podcast marked a major reunion for Brody and Bilson, who...

The pair recently interviewed one another for Entertainment Tonight to promote the podcast, and it was a delight.

"I know we talked about definitely getting together personally, as a reunion ... all of us getting together," Bilson said.

"I think we have spoken to some already, everyone's on board for that."

"But a reboot would be awesome," she continued.

"I think that's in the hands of [creators and executive producers] Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. There's still a ways to go,...

“California here we come, right back where we started from’… unfortunately for Fox the opening lines of The O.C. theme tune will not come true this year.

Fox entertainment boss Michael Thorn told Deadline that the youth-skewing, sun-soaked soap “will not happen”.

“The O.C. will not happen despite my deep passion for it to come back. No one is available, unfortunately. I would be lying if I said ‘I didn’t ask’ every June,” he added.

The drama, which was created by Gossip Girl’s Josh Schwartz, ran for four season on Fox between 2003 and 2007. Produced by Warner Bros TV in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision and College Hill Pictures, the show centred around Ryan Atwood, played by Ben McKenzie, a troubled but gifted young man who is adopted by Peter Gallagher’s Sandy Cohen and Kelly Rowan’s Kirsten Cohen. Now as a grown up, getting the chance to re-watch it for review, I hoped the magic was still there. Thankfully it turned out that it was, made all the better on Blu-ray.

When Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) release a horde of pint-sized demons from a hole in Glen’s backyard they find the task of stopping them all the harder his parents gone for the weekend.
